CALLING FOR FISHERS OF MEN Using Jesus’ invitation to Peter and Andrew, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men" as theme for Advance Speech 4 “The Persuasive Speech”, Bro Mel called on the audience to heed Jesus’ call during Teaching Night on 29 August 2013 at the Newman Hall, Auckland. He said that “Jesus is asking you not just to follow His path, he is asking you to follow His teachings, His sacrifices, His giving, His love. For it is only if we be like Him, we are one with Him and be one in Him that we can be made fishers of men.” He added that, “Peter and Andrew, ordinary fishers, may have though like us – we not special. But it is not for us to say, it is God who knows our talents, our potential, our calling. He moulded each one of us to be different; to be unique; to be special.” Concluding he said, “Once we respond to Jesus’ call and accept God’s will and plan for our lives, we become fishers of men, like Peter, Andrew, like Benedict, like St Paul.” Bro Dwayne, as guest speaker, made a presentation on the topic, “Can Earthquakes be Predicted?” The interesting topic brought about a lot of questions from the audience. The presentation was made possible through Bro Jed who made the suggestion prior to the programme. This development made the group decide to encourage students who would want to rehearse their formal presentations in the university during Teaching Nights. Bro Sam came prepared with three funny anecdotes in Smiles; while Bro Nathaniel who acted as Programme Minister, called on reactors to topics in Brieflynes. Bro Toots talked about the martyrdom of St Paul; Bro Jed opined on the challenges that Christian students encounter in a secular campus setting; and Bro Trevor cst expounded on the message of US President Obama on the occasion of the commemoration of the “I have a Dream” speech of Martin Luther King. In the BQQ the team of Nathaniel-Dwayne won (11/15). Bro Toots was perfect in his role as quizmaster. The programme started with the song “God will find a Way” which Bro Nathaniel also sang as the final song. Bro Sam, the best chef of the chaplaincy, prepared pizza and juice to the delight of all. The next Teaching Night is scheduled on 19 September 2013 at 6:00 pm in Newman Hall. Confirmed speakers are: Bro Dwayne (BS1); Bro Toots (BS2); Bro Sam (BS2) and Bro Daniel (BS2).

Smilines\ Prayer "As long as there are tests, there will be prayer in public schools."
