It contains some of detailed information of various activities that are being conducted in our college. One can also see articles, reports, and other works that reflects the true identity and image of Sriram though we have not been able to capture all due to paucity of space. Sriram is celebrating the year 2103 as “The year of the Student” and everything that is happening in the college is “Student Centric.” Sriram works on the central theme, “Building professionals with character” and all the activities that are designed is with the aim of achieving that goal. HONDA
On 7th of December we went for a visit to National Small Industries Corporation Ltd. (NSIC) New Delhi. NSIC is an ISO 9001-2008 certified government of India enterprise under Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium enterprises. Entrepreneurs are the true builders of nation, the visit to NSIC; New Delhi was to boost the zeal of students to be an entrepreneur. This visit motivated us to pursue our career as an entrepreneur, and opened our eyes to the possibility of a number of low cost profitable projects having enormous government support for the set-up and operations.
On 16th Of February we went for an industrial visit to Honda SIEL Cars India Ltd situated in Greater Noida. Honda Produces Motor Cycles, Power products, cars, ASIMO & Honda jet. Honda sells 2 crore products in a year globally and has the 7th rank in automobile industry on all counts. Honda SIEL (Greater Noida) is the only car producing plant in India where all the cars of a company in all the variants and colors are produced from a single production line. Honda has a vision on which it focuses most, The Three Joys of the customer & Respect for an individual. It was a very good experience that how management works in a big organization like Honda. We came to know how management helps in producing a quality product and delivering it to the final customer according to his needs.

Yamaha India Pvt. Ltd. On 21st February we went for an industrial visit to Yamaha India Motor Pvt. Ltd (Greater Noida). The journey to Yamaha was really memorable and informative. The core competencies of Yamaha are that they place customers first in everything they do. They take decisions keeping the customer in mind and strive for excellence in everything they do and provide best quality of goods & services. They work hard to achieve what they commit & achieve results faster than their competitors and they never give up. Talk Show at India TV: “AAP KI ADAALAT” Interaction and communication plays an important role in the life of people. To enhance communication skills, our college often take us to talk shows organize by popular media houses. Recently we were exposed to famous talk show hosted by eminent anchor and journalist Rajat Sharma. In the process we interacted with some great personalities from different fields including Sheila Dixit (politics), Nana Patekar (entertainment), Arvind Kejiriwal (social reform) and Salman khurshid (foreign affairs/politics). These talk shows are important because watching them help us to gain information on the varied topics which proves helpful in many fields. Topics like family problems, love, children, disaster, political issues and more can really give a person some perspective on their own lives. Apart from that, it is some sort of entertainment too.

SRIRAM NEWS LETTER DRISHTIKON DRISHTIKON drishtikon Conferences: Seminars AIMA’s 7th National Conference on ‘Entrepreneurship, Employability & Business Education.
On 27th and 28th November, all of us got another opportunity to attend a conference at IIC, Lodhi Road (New Delhi). The conference was full of expert views and perspective on entrepreneurship and business education. The panel was an amalgamation of experts from academia and corporate which included Mr.Salil Pandey(Founder & CEO-V mock Inc), Mr. Harpreet Singh(President- Educomp solution Ltd), Dr. Subhash Dutta (DirectorIMT), Sanjeev Bikhchandani (IIM-A Alumni) to name a few. They discussed about entrepreneurship skills in detail believing to benefit all of the management students present there. One of the experts pointed out that entrepreneurship is not always related to our DNA but can be built with the right exposure, guidance and attitude. Another expert stressed on introducing new courses keeping industry requirements in mind. One of the intellectuals interestingly grabbed the audience attention by coming up with a fact that there is no substitute to experience and one must not over promise but try to deliver. All of the panelists disappointedly said that there is a lack of specific skills and soft skills in particular among the management graduates. The students were asked to answer certain questions viz- what is the foremost step to being an entrepreneur. We sincerely believe that all of us have received a priceless gift of exposure and learning during those two days at the conference. There was a session of paper presentations also which enabled us learn the presentation skills out of the class rooms as well. In gist, the said conference had been very knowledgeable imparting specific skills with a bunch of motivational and inspirational thoughts to all of us present there.

SRIRAM NEWS LETTER DRISHTIKON DRISHTIKON drishtikon Guest Lecture by Mr. AVNEESH MAKKAR Environment Sustainability 9th February was a busy day for the students of SRIMT. The college gave its students an opportunity to meet Mr. Avneesh Makkar. He visited the college as a guest lecturer and effectively tried to enlighten students on the very sensitive topic of environment and how to stay eco-friendly. 9th Feb also marked the day full with entertainment as students also watched the movie called 11th hour. However the movie was a part of the academic lecture, infact it was to give a sense of completeness to the guest lecture given by honorable Avneesh Makkar. The documentary 11th hour was created, produced and narrated by Leonardo Di Caprio. It focused on the state of the natural environment. The film's idea was based on the principle that the future of humanity is in trouble. Now moving on the educative lecture, the lecture pointed on ways to minimize the use of non renewable source of energy. By doing this we can decrease the dependency on such sources and focus more on renewable sources. Basically the lecture threw light on the very sensitive topic of environmental sustainability. He also said that we should spread the awareness on ways to save the blue planet. “We conserve what we love, we love what we understand, we understand what we are taught.�Overall his lecture provided the student ways to control or delay the forthcoming disaster and make our mother planet a beautiful place to live in.

SRIRAM NEWS LETTER DRISHTIKON DRISHTIKON Coaching and Mentoring in I.T. space By Mr. Neeraj Bachani Neeraj Bachani from HCL Pvt. Ltd came to our college with 12 years of experience in IT I industry for providing us the knowledge about coaching and mentoring in IT space. He gave us the definition of coaching and mentoring as coaching is a formal and informal training program in which the coach attempts to provide a model for the trainee to copy and mentoring is a relationship in which one person (the mentor) usually some one more experienced, often more senior in an organization helps another. He conveyed to us the characteristics, process, benefits, techniques and skill of coaching and also the mentoring techniques. From this session we were able to know about the typical software project model for project management. One more thing was the DMAIC model which is the process of coaching which stands for Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control and Feedback. It is a cycle that repeats again and again.

Evening Adda is a Sriram Students Intiative, began by a young man by name Rakesh Pandey who loves to teach economics. What started as a learning intiative about 6 months ago in the Common Room of Hostel block of the college to impart free lectures after college hours went on to become a big hit among the students. Today Evening Adda indulges in various activities aimed primarily at enhancing learning experience for students at Sriram which includes, Book Reviews, Analysis of case studies, video documentary making, arranging guest lectures and lot more.

We cannot have our cake of market efficiency and share it equally.

The concept of economic sustainability has become a buzz word for the economists and public policy advocates alike. With the downfall in the Chinese economy due to the global dip in the export markets, the countries excessively dependent on exports are feeling the heat. For some of them, it is the time when we need to take on an inward shift of economy. But this inward shift of feeding the domestic consumers, we need to have a heavy consumer base. But apart from this, one of the biggest concerns which are arising out of the whole global economic system is the problem of income distribution and economic inequality. Recently I was going through Ruchir Sharma’s book, Breakout Nations and was stunned to see the inequality growth in India. According to the IMF World Economic Outlook, April 2011, the number of billionaires in India is 55 with a total net worth of USD 246.5 billion and constitute a whopping 17.2% of India’s GDP. Compared to the other emerging nations of the world, the percentage share is just below Russia and Malaysia. But the point to ponder is that the countries like Russia and Malaysia have very low population as compared to India which clearly states that the situation economic development is far skewed and extremely grim. It is normally believed that when a country is following the liberal policy for development where the private players has a major role to play, then these circumstances are normal where inequality creeps in. I believe it is the other way round. The skewed income level is because of the crony capitalism which is taking a bigger shape in Indian economy. If a country’s billionaires make their money largely from the government patronage, rather than productive new

industries, it could feel resentment (which is what sparked revolt in Indonesia in the late 1990s). If a country is generating too many billionaires relative to the size of the economy, it is off balance. The case of inequality is much deeper in China. The double digit growth rate for around two decades has severely impacted on the growth aspect of China in the near future. Corruption appears to be rising, and the share of corruption cases involving high-level officials is up dramatically from 1.7% in 1990 to 6.1% in 2006. Regional differences are widening, and inequality is skyrocketing, causing social tensions. A much cited statisticfrom the government itself- tells of an important trend. In 2004, there were 74,000 protests of some kind or the other in China; ten years earlier, there were just 10,000. This picture is a clear testament to the fact is social unrest is having its hangover and this will end the sustained growth of most of the emerging nations including China and India. In a nut-shell, the whole concept of inclusive growth is severely challenged in the export oriented economies which are believed to be the emerging markets of the new world. Taking the case of Chinese economy which is an export dependent economy competes on the cheap labour supply which gives it the required economies of scale to compete and win in the international market. But the past couple of years, the labour unrest have created a situation where the bargaining power of labour force has witnessed an unprecedented rise. The cheap labour is no more available in China and has taken the manufacturing of some sectors to countries like Bangladesh, Philippines, Indonesia and some other East-Asian nations where labour is comparatively cheap. This happened in case of India too when the garment export industry shifted some of their manufacturing plants to Bangladesh just because of the strong lobbying of the trade unions regarding payment of a higher wages. Crony capitalism is a cancer that undermines competition and slows economic growth. It was very much evident after the Financial Crisis of 2008 that crony capitalism can create havoc in the economy and the concept of inclusive growth goes for a toss. The financial sector lobbying in the US policy through CDOs and CDS shook the whole world and plunged the whole economy in recession. For a balanced growth, we need to promote a market friendly system where the patronage of economics and politics does not happen. At the

How to Say Sorry to Friends By Sumeer Sharma, PGDM 1st year
Friends are very important and precious part of our lives. We share each happiness and sorrow with them. Also, we spent maximum time in their company and make million memories. We laugh, cry and even fight with them. A simple way which seems difficult to most of us is to say sorry for whatever happened. Apologizing is the key to make everything like before. Many people believe that apologizing is admitting that they are guilty and lowering down their pride, which is why most people expect the other person to come and say sorry. People associate sorry with the surrender of the inner power and blaming oneself to what had happened. This is why they become reluctant in doing so. You need to say sorry to him/her and ask for forgiveness. This would, by no chance, lower your self esteem or self worth. Instead, a single sorry would repair things between the two of you and make everything like before.

When you hurt your friend, it becomes your duty to resolve the issue. Even if it is just a misunderstanding between the two of you, step forward and say sorry. Take responsibility to bring back the essence of love in the relationship. If you do not leave your ego and pride, the issue will just take a bigger shape.

If the hurt friend has stopped talking to you and has not left any way for you to communicate, don’t waste time. Instead, go and write a letter. Write the letter to the point and do not show much emotion. Too much emotion will only dramatize the letter

How about buying a sorry card or a gift for your friend that communicates your apologies? Sometime a card or affectionate gift helps you saying sorry effectively for which you were trying so hard.

Call your friend or leave a message on his/her answering machine. In your apology, let your friend know how much this friendship means to you and that your are sincerely sorry for whatever happened.

The King and the Parrot A king along with his soldiers went out for hunting in to a forest. Chasing a lion, the king lost his way and was cut off from his soldiers. Totally drained, famished and thirsty, he started walking and walking in the hope that sooner or later he would be able to find his way towards his palace. As he continued to push himself, far away he saw a pond filled with water. It was a splendid sight for the tired king and he ran towards it to quench his thirst. Plucking a big leaf from a tree nearby, he made a bowl and collected water from the pond to drink. Suddenly, out of the blue a parrot came flying down and with its beaks hit the bowl splashing the entire water on to the ground. The king was annoyed and looked at the parrot that was now sitting on the branch of the tree above and was looking at the king. Ignoring the parrot, the king plucked another big leaf, made another bowl and collected the water. When he lifted the bowl towards his lips, the parrot like an arrow flew down and hit the bowl once again totally destroying it. This time the king became very irritated and furious and decided to teach the parrot that was still looking at the king from the tree above, a lesson. He removed his sword from its holster and kept it on to the ground. Plucking yet another big leaf, he made yet another bowl and took water in it; but was vigilant this time. The parrot was still watching the king. As he lifted the bowl for yet another time to drink, the parrot came dashing down towards the bowl. The king, who was prepared for the third attack, lifted his sword from the ground and swung it to the parrot cutting it into two pieces. Relieved that this time the parrot would not disturb, he gathered water in the bowl for the last time. As he lifted the bowl to drink the water, his eyes caught something below the water and what he saw shocked him. Below the water was a dead cobra, oozing from its mouth poison into the water. The parrot was trying to save King’s life!
