Providing a comprehensive review of a destination offering the flavours of authentic Arabia with world-class hospitality and meeting facilities The second largest country in Arabia, Oman offers up a diverse array of natural attractions, from rugged mountains to desert landscapes, plains made green by monsoon rains and the abundant Indian Ocean and un-spoilt coast line providing ideal nesting sites for sea turtles. The Oman Ministry of Tourism views the meetings industry segment as an ideal complement to Oman’s growing appeal as a tourism destination. Currently Oman receives around two million tourists annually. Oman is seeing a huge investment in resorts and hotels as the Sultanate surges ahead in its tourism development to capitalize on its unique natural, cultural and historical attractions. The Oman Air development dovetails with work to increase capacity at Muscat International Airport. A new terminal is scheduled this year which will have the capacity to handle 12 million passengers annually. In 2012, the total passenger traffic through Muscat International Airport grew by 16 per cent to achieve 7.5 million. Salalah Airport is also set for expansion as it undergoes development to receive one million passengers by 2014. Developer Omran is also on track to complete the niche resorts in Khasab and Jabal Al Akhdar and construction of new hotels and visitor facilities are starting in Muscat and Salalah. Oman’s Ministry of Tourism estimates that an additional 3,000 hotel rooms will be completed by the end of 2014. Other developments include the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre that is on track to open in Q1 2017. Oman is the perfect destination for incentive travel and those who wish to experience something truly unique with all the comforts of luxurious accommodation. From mountain trekking, cave exploration, dhow cruises and turtle watching, diving, sports fishing, whale and dolphin watching, snorkelling, or just browsing the souks for gold or frankincense.
