The story is just getting started.

A year-long series with a new chapter every issue. Catch up today! Thousands of people have read the first ten chapters of a year long series we are doing on the life of Ed Flowers, also known as Teddy Bear. Ed grew up in Macon, took part in his first bank robbery when he was fourteen years old, a crime for which he never went to jail for. He went on to play baseball at Dudley Hughes High, under coach Goot Stiener where his team won a State Championship in 1964. He practiced with Pete Rose. But Teddy couldn’t stay out of trouble, and ended up in Reidsville Prison right after he graduated, as fucked up as a research monkey, on morphine. Over the next 10 years, his crimes would land him in prison, to which he escaped five times, be put on America’s Most Wanted list, and is believed by some to have robbed over 60 banks. If this is true, that’s more than Jesse James and John Dillinger combined. We are asking that you buy a VIP Membership to 11thHouronline.com to read the rest of Teddy’s story. It’s less than the price of a digital book. $7.99. For that, you’ll get to read the rest of the story, as well as hear audio interviews with Teddy himself, with online digital video coming this fall. The money will help The 11th Hour continue to offer great content, and calendars and reviews to our readers for years to come. So purchase your membership today and continue to read Teddy Bear. Festival officials said the event may return next year.

OLIVE FORGE

“Two Old Hippies” Have Learned to Live Off the Land By Nicole Thurston

I cover a lot of stores and businesses around middle Georgia, but this story is a little bit more personal. You see, Olive Forge Herb Farm is more than just a place to buy herbs, teas, pottery, or infused skin creams, it is a place of healing. Owned by Marsha and Darryl Herren, Sr, the farm is just north east of Macon, right across the Baldwin County line. The first time I ventured out to find this place I thought I was going into the middle of nowhere, and it is kind of like that. Nowhere, yet exactly where people say they need to be. I first met these self-proclaimed “two old hippies,” back in December of 2011. Not a lot of money in my pocket, but I wanted to search out healthier alternatives to cooking and google-searched “organic farms.” It took me straight to Olive Forge. After almost passing their tiny sign on the left side of the road, I meandered up an old dirt drive way, passing a beautiful pond, acres of trees, and finally found a little wooden cottage at the top of the hill. Out came this long hair, bearded man with a welcoming smile and right behind him was a petite woman with the kindest eyes. They welcomed me not only into their store, but into their home. Something they do for just about everyone who visits. Armed with some hot African red bush tea and personal guides, I was shown around the shop and home. As close to living off the grid as two people can, the Herrens created a unique shopping and living space in middle Georgia. They bought the property in 1981 by phone, sight unseen. When they arrived, they had very little. “We had an outdoor kitchen, hearth, oven and smok-

er,” Darryl explained, “Our frig was a Styrofoam cooler and our stove was a Coleman camp stove.” “We had brought an old single wide trailer that did not have walls on two sides,” laughed Marsha, “So we put a tarp on those.” The couple would build their home over the next six years, never borrowing money, and doing all of the work themselves. They had an interest in gardening and wanted to use plants as preventative medicine. They met a Selma Irwin while working at Georgia College. She introduced them to herbs, in particular how to cultivate what is native to Georgia. “She gave us a sprig of rosemary one day and said if you root this, you’ll have something you can cook with, you can make tea with, that will fight insects, and is a powerful antioxidant, and you can use it for aroma. We were hooked.” They went on to root that sprig and have that plant to this day. It is 40 years old. “That just opened that world for us,” explained Marsha. According to the Herrens, the original business plan was to live off of their investments (side note: they are very shrewd in understanding the stock market,) and while Darryl wanted to read all night and sleep all day, Marsha thought sleeping all night and running all day was a good idea. Turns out, selling their plants and becoming walking plant encyclopedias has become a way of life. Though I could go on and on about how Marsha is a wasp whisperer and how Darryl can identify just about any bird that flies by his window (they document migrations for Cornell in their spare time,) I would rather you

experience their stories for yourself, because that is half of the experience. There is a big brown oak table in their dining room, and often they will put on a pot of tea for guests and serve up Marsha’s famous lavender cookies. “We have had some glorious times around that table,” smiled Darryl. “Marsha says that everybody that comes is either bringing a gift, or they need a gift.” As retired social workers, they continue to share their philosophy into their herb business. “From day one the prayer for Olive Forge and continues to be is: May the Great Spirit that moves through all things move through Olive Forge in such a way that all that come here would see the Spirit and want it for themselves,” said Marsha. As you can see, Olive Forge is more than just a farm, it is an experience that the wayward traveler stumbles upon, and as some tell it, will change your perspective on the world. If you ask anyone if they know the Herrens, most will reply that they are good friends of theirs, and that pretty much sums up what the farm is all about. Two old hippies, living out their dreams and sharing it with the world. Though Olive Forge has shortened their business hours and no longer sells plants, you can still purchase herbal teas, cooking herbs, oils, find skin creams, and essential oils, as well as shop works of folk art from over 30 local artists. They only accept cash and personal checks. You can follow them on Facebook, or visit the farm at 161 Browns Crossing Rd NW, Haddock, GA on Saturdays. 11thHourOnline.com 11

Mama Hill and Mama Louise have kept Macon’s most diverse clientele well fed with delicious, stick-to-ya-ribs soul food since Otis Redding was just an unknown band member in Johnny Jenkins’ Pinetoppers. On one fateful day in the mid-60’s a group a long hairs pooled their money together for two plates. Mama Louise felt sorry for them and gave them all a heaping helping. A friendship between her and The Allman Brothers Band was born. A friendship that took her on quite a ride that included a seat on the tour bus in 1972 and lifelong friendships with Gregg and the rest of the band. All that mattered was this.

(Forward from the author, Brad Evans) Some believe that they can measure people by being around them just a little while. I wonder, sometimes, if I would have met Roy Flowers 40 years ago, if I would have known to be afraid. I have had lunch with him regularly for over a year now, and after one of our meetings I went up to 20’s Pub on Riverside, a place where an older crowd goes for happy hour. I walked in and asked aloud if anyone knew Roy Flowers. Several people raised their hands. One man had served time with him. Another remembered being in high school, and how just hearing the name struck fear. He even said he felt that fear when I came in and asked about him, that he half thought Roy was going to come in behind me and do god knows what. It’s hard to imagine now, as Roy is as gentle and kind of a man as I’ve ever met, always quick to ask about my family, and tell me about his own. But it’s hard to look at any man, and know the things inside him, and if there was ever a story about early promise gone wrong, this man, Roy Flowers, can tell it. I decided to tell his story from his point of view, as he’s told it to me over the last year and a half.

NEW YEAR. NEW SPACES. NEW FACES. Not too long ago, living downtown—or even just going downtown for dinner—there weren’t many options. Rather than restaurants and lofts, you would have seen dilapidated and abandoned buildings. Over the last few years, due to the efforts of NewTown Macon, Historic Macon, Mercer University, and several downtown entrepreneurs, Macon’s city center has transformed into a place to live, work, and play. Lofts, restaurants, and concert venues have opened where run-down storefronts used to be. Near the end of 2015, revitalization in Macon is far from over. As the city continues to grow and evolve, local businesses and organizations are keeping up with and aiding revitalization efforts by providing new and exciting opportunities to eat good food, see live entertainment, and have a great downtown experience. Several moves, openings, and updates toward the end of this year and into 2016 are evidence of downtown’s continued uphill climb.

Bearfoot Tavern Moves to Second St. -- Evolves I nto Gastro Pub and Beer Garden

By the end of January 2016, Bearfoot Tavern, which was located on Cherry Street, will open at a new location at 468 Second St. Part of the reason for the move is a need for bigger space. “Our lease at the building was up, and 14 DECEMBER 23 - JANUARY 7, 2015

we were looking for something a little bit different,” said Cesare Mammarella, who owns HotPlates Restaurant Group. “We were kind of restricted as to what we could do at the current location.” HotPlates includes Bearfoot Tavern, as well as TicToc Room, Ginger Stir Fry & Grill, Brasserie Circa, Yabu Sushi, and Emerson Ballroom. The menu and bar at the new location will be slightly different from what is offered at the Cherry Street location. The tap which will feature over 50 kinds of beer, will be the centerpiece of the large bar, and the back of the restaurant will have a beer garden. As for the menu, many popular items will stay the same, but customers can expect some new food as well. “We’ve gone toward more of a gastropub as far as the menu goes,” said Mammarella.

The Crazy Bul l O pens Second Floor

The Crazy Bull opened the stage on its second floor a few months ago, showcasing bands in the space in addition to live music on the main floor and in the basement. Hill says The Brick House—the basement of The Crazy Bull—will usually feature a DJ, while the main floor will feature a country band. On the second floor, rock and roll bands or bands of other genres will play. In

2016, Hill hopes to add more entertainment to the upstairs space. “We’ll have an overlook looking down on the main stage from upstairs, and there will be stadium seating up there. Once we get that in place, we’ll have a VIP room we can offer our guests,” he said. The VIP room will only be available to members of a private club Hill plans to create. With a monthly fee, members won’t have to pay cover, they’ll have access to the VIP room, and they will reap additional benefits such as private parties once per month. Hill hopes to open the VIP room and start the private club in 2016. Another idea Hill has for the second floor is a room he’s calling the “incubator room,” where bands that are just starting out can play. Hill would eventually like to have a recording studio in the incubator room, but the project is still in the planning phase. Hill’s plans don’t stop at the second floor. “Eventually I want to go to the rooftop,” said Hill. “My plan is to finish up with four stories and have a rooftop bar.”

Taqueria and The Cox Ca pitol Theatre

In January 2016, the Moonhanger Group will open a taqueria called El Camino on Second Street next to the

The Moonhanger Group is a family business with an exciting new storefront opening in Jan.

SECOND STREET ALLEY PROJECT

The 2015 Leadership Macon class revealed their finished “Second Street Alley” project at December’s First Friday. Leadership Macon is a program sponsored by the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, and ever year, the class is charged with coming up with a project that will have a lasting impact on the community. This year’s class revitalized a two-block stretch of Second Street Lane from Mulberry to Poplar Street. The Leadership Macon class hopes that revitalizing one of downtown’s smaller spaces will have some big impacts. Lighting, plants and interactive games were added to help create that sense of place. For more information on the project or how to donate, you can contact NewTown Macon.

Cox Capitol Theatre, which Moonhanger Group owns. “First of all, we wanted to add a food element to the Capitol Theatre,” said Wes Griffith, who owns Moonhanger along with Chad Evans. In addition to the Cox, Moonhanger owns The Rookery, Dovetail, and H&H. The restaurant and the concert venue will be attached, so people enjoying concerts at the Cox will be able to walk into El Camino to buy tacos or drinks without leaving the building. El Camino will also be open during regular hours when the Cox is closed. Tacos, tortas, and tequila will be the three mainstays of the new restaurant, partly because downtown doesn’t currently have a taqueria and partly because tacos are easy to eat one-handed while enjoying live music. Like Moonhanger’s other restaurants, El Camino “will be all about the quality of ingredients, the freshness of ingredients, and the creativity of our staff,” said Griffith. Look for a special lineup of bands coming to the Cox in January in conjunction with El Camino’s grand opening.

Meet Keisha Jackson

Brooklyn native, Keisha Jackson, is the daughter of legendary soul singer, Millie Jackson. At age 17, while pursuing a career in Entertainment Law, she began singing background for her mother. It was during this time Keisha decided to change her career path. After relocating to Atlanta, GA she was signed to Sony Music, where she recorded 2 self-titled albums. Keisha dabbled in Musical Theater for 4 years, but realized that she preferred the “musical” to the theatrical side of entertainment and chose to focus on studio performance. She soon became one of the most sought-after session vocalists in Atlanta and worked with La Reid and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds (LaFace Records) singing background on recordings with the likes of Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston, Bobby Brown, Aretha Franklin and later, Joss Stone’s Introducing Joss Stone album. She is featured on Sleepy Brown’s (Dungeon Family) underground masterpiece, “The Vinyl Room”, Da Brat’s “Get Somebody”, Raphael Saadiq’s “Live at the House Of Blues”, Funk Diva, Joi’s “Co-Stars” and a sultry soulful duet with Anthony David, entitled “Lady”. As a live background performer, Keisha has toured with R&B Divas’ Faith Evans, Angie Stone, Raphael Saadiq, George Clinton, Outkast and also performed at the Super Bowl with pop group No Doubt. Currently she is a background vocalist with Erykah Badu (11yrs) and Rap legend Big Boi (12+yrs) toured as a support vocalist on the Outkast 20th Anniversary Tour in 2014 and has recently added Johnny Gill’s current Game Changer Tour to the list. Keisha is currently recording her third record, a Soul/Blues inspired effort for which she has released her first single Give You My All (available now). Keisha began her own vocal coaching agency, One Voice Entertainment, in 2000 and works to assist aspiring vocalists in the U.S. southern region and around the world. She also conducts voice workshops semi-annually to prepare vocalists for prospective tours and future performance opportunities.

OP-ED

The Dona ld “You a Trump man?” I was sitting alone eating my salad at Zaxby’s when a man across the aisle asked me that question with no other greeting. The easy thing to do would have been to nod in assent then keep eating but I couldn’t. “No,” I replied, “I’m not.” He was immediately engaged and said, “Well, at least he says what he thinks!” There was no argument with that statement since Trump seems to have no filter of any kind that moderates what comes out of his mouth. He had attended the Trump rally in Macon the week before and adamantly stated that “the media lied” when they reported an attendance of 6,000 people instead of the actual number of 8,000. Therein seems to lie an underlying theme of Trump supporters – you can’t trust the media at all because there is a conspiracy to “get” him. Actually, in my estimation his candidacy seems to be a creation of the media since his campaign at the very least sucks all the oxygen out of reporting on the other candidates. The man told me that Trump is going to do everything he has promised when he is president. With respect and deference, I told him that the president doesn’t have the authority on his own to do many of the things Trump has promised. “Well, then, he’ll change that!” the man replied. I didn’t have the time nor the inclination to teach him about the constitution’s separation of powers, so I just responded, “Well, I’m glad you have someone you can support.” It was the closest I could come to “playing nicely” as my mother would say. I went back to my salad and, when the man left, he nodded in my direction but with a look that clearly expressed his displeasure that I didn’t share his political views. Having served in the White House, I am uniquely aware of the powers allotted to a president and the budget under which he has to implement them. Building a huge wall across our Mexican border (and having Mexico pay for it) is not something the president can order unilaterally. Automatically forbidding any Muslim to enter the United States is also something he can’t accomplish on his own even if it were a good policy directive. Yes, we as a country have flirted with the edges of that policy, including President Carter’s exclusion of all Iranians while they held American hostages (and I can’t help but note how ironic it is to see Trump supporters using the Carter decision to support their opinion), but that policy was not based on religion. Christian Iranians were excluded alongside Muslim ones. Sixteen countries currently exclude entry to anyone with an Israeli passport, but again that policy

affects Israeli Christians and Muslims as well as Israeli Jews. I can hear my luncheon neighbor protesting, “But Trump should be able to do what he wants!” That, too, seems to be a common refrain from the hundreds of thousands of his supporters. They want to suspend the law to allow Trump to express their outrage and act upon it. The question they should be considering, though, is whether they would support having a President Hillary Clinton or a President Bernie Sanders suspend the law in order to implement their policies. A slippery slope is a dangerous thing if taken to its extremities. There is a much larger question, however, that Trump supporters will face. I am convinced that he will be denied the Republican nomination in one way or another. Even though he signed a loyalty pledge to support the nominee, this is a man with an outsized ego who will argue (with very good reason) that the other parties were the first to violate that agreement and he is therefore not bound by it. Will he then run as an independent and will his many supporters bolt with him? There is mounting evidence that the Republican party is planning to unite behind either Cruz (who, by the way, was not born in the United States but we don’t hear any of the “birthers” arguing that point) or Rubio as their last best effort to stop Trump. Cruz is and was so unpopular in the Senate that the venerable former Senator Bob Dole, when asked what he will do on election day if Ted Cruz is the nominee, responded, “I might oversleep that day.” When asked what Cruz’s accomplishments are, Dole answered, “shutting down the government twice and calling the Republican leader, Mitch McConnell, a liar on the Senate floor.” Of course Marco Rubio has some serious financial problems in his past and there are strong rumors of other personal issues that would be raised if he is the Republican nominee. What seems clear is that the early party favorite, Jeb Bush, isn’t going to make it. Somebody needs to stick a fork in him ‘cause he’s done. It is instructive and offensive to realize that Trump’s numbers only went straight up when he proposed banning all Muslims from entry into the United States. Our local Islamic Center, where I have friends who pray, was recently vandalized and the word “terrorist” was spray painted on its door along with several expletives. Meanwhile, we have 6,000 Muslims voluntarily serving in the U.S. military protecting Trump’s right to express his bigoted opinion.

Plans Announced for H istoric Ca pricorn Studios Site Plans were revealed today at Capricorn Studio, detailing how the historic monument will be preserved and returned to use. “Today’s announcement exceeds NewTown’s wildest hopes for this property,” said NewTown Macon’s President/CEO Josh Rogers. “Not only will this monument to our music history be saved forever, it will roar back to life with the music of the next generation,” Rogers continued. The entire three-acres of vacant land around the studio is part of the project, occupying most of the block bounded by MLK, Plum, Poplar, and Fifth Streets. Sierra Development and Southern Pine Plantations acquired the historic Capricorn Studio building and its surrounding land from NewTown Macon’s Transitional Properties Fund. The Peyton Anderson Foundation made a special contribution to the fund to acquire the property, which was named one of Georgia’s most endangered historic buildings in 2010. Ca pricorn Studio Donated to Mercer University In the fall of 2014, a grant from the Knight Foundation Fund at the Community Foundation of Central Georgia underwrote a feasibility study for a Downtown Macon-based music incubator. It was announced today that Sierra Development and Southern Pine Plantations will donate the historic Capricorn Studio building to Mercer University. The purpose of this donation is to create a new music incubator called Mercer Music at

Capricorn. This facility, whose design was informed by the feasibility study, will allow local musicians to stay in Macon as they nurture their talent and grow in their careers. Floor Plans Revea led to the Publ ic The historic recording studio itself will be carefully preserved and restored to its Capricorn-era appearance. The studio will be available for private rentals, including special events or for musicians to record on their own equipment. The lobby will be renovated for use as one of Macon’s most unique live-music venues. The venue will be a great place for residents of the incubator to try out new material, or host concerts to raise money to support the growth of the band. The first floor will also include some flexible office space. Upstairs will be transformed into a music incubator, including two large rehearsal rooms, five medium-sized rehearsal rooms and four

Current site of Capricorn as it stands now on MLK Jr. Blvd. small rehearsal rooms. The rooms will be available to all types and genres of musicians at a very low monthly rate. The incubator will also contain five lockers for band equipment, an elevator, a lobby and a studio apartment. Musicians in Middle Georgia will finally have a dedicated place to develop their music and take it to a national level. If you are interested in reserving a space in the incubator, you may contact NewTown Macon at music@newtownmacon.com to sign a pre-lease. CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE 11thHourOnline.com 25

The Scene Hip-Hop Won in Macon, Georgia by Floco Torres

Field Note Stenographers is a group of musicians, promoters, business owners and live music fans based in Macon, Georgia interested in how live musical experiences can benefit the community.

By reviewing shows and musical experiences that you, dear reader, may or may not have had the esteemed privilege to witness, we, the Field Note Stenographers, hope to showcase bits of awesome, intriguing or soul-stirring music happenings in our fair city of Macon with the ultimate goal of convincing you to support live music. for the encore. His band (Drummer, DJ, Bassist also playing keys) didn’t miss a beat either. The most amazing thing about this show was being in a room full of different demographics to experience one of the best shows I’ve seen this year. The room was so attentive that at times I felt like I was in an arena. Lack of experience with Hip-Hop shows on the Capitol’s part mixed with the sideshow activity that usually goes on backstage (Entourages & know it all’s), there were a few sound issues but nothing major to stop the flow of the show. I got to enjoy a great Hip-Hop show with friends that

are twice my age & unaware of the culture as well friends who knew a lot more of the music than I did. Here’s to hoping we get more moments like this in 2016. Floco Torres is an award winning Hip-Hop musician & journalist from Willingboro New Jersey currently living in Macon Ga. After a positive buzz from his #DreamBoard EP & the (V) I N S A N I T Y EP, Torres looks to reach a larger audience on the road in 2016. Read more of his work at fieldnotestenographers.com & check out some of his music at FlocoTorres.com

Ca pricorn Studios

As promised, the Big K.R.I.T. show at the Capitol Theater proved to be one of the biggest shows of the year & extremely important for Hip-Hop fans in the city. Congratulate yourselves Macon because you represented the culture well. I intended to catch all of the first two opening acts (Delorean & Big Sant) but the line wrapped out of the Capitol doors & around the block down Cherry Street. As a local brat, I despise waiting in lines but only because I’m used to attending shows where I’m one of 12 people actually showing up. I came back when the line died down & missed Delorean & Big Sant but I walked into a packed out theater at the beginning of Scotty ATL’s set. Scotty is signed to B.O.B’s label “No Genre” & through my work with DJ Shawty Slim, I’ve seen & enjoyed Scotty’s live show a few times. Although his music hasn’t quite reached the mainstream just yet, his song “Cloud IX (Go Up)” got the most crowd participation out of the room even though most may not be familiar with his music. 26 DECEMBER 23 - JANUARY 7, 2015

BJTHECHICAGOKID’s first song was visually one of my favorite things of the night. The song featured him beating on a floor tom furiously like a member of Atlanta A&T’s drumline (Thanks Nick Cannon). Due to lack of research on my part, I wasn’t aware that BJ was actually a singer. I saw a few college students singing along to the deeper cuts but when he ran through his popular features like SchoolBoy Q’s “Studio” or Dr. Dre’s “It’s All On Me”, he got his biggest reaction. DJ Dibiase, whose DJ table was the front of an old school Cadillac (like the ones Jamie Foxx sold in DreamGirls) warmed us up for the headliner of the night. When Big KRIT his the stage, I felt the walls shake in the theater. Most gripes with Hip-Hop shows today is that there isn’t much stage presence or actual “performing” going on but KRIT trumped this criticism. Krit’s stage presence was top notch & his song selection was too. “86” almost incited a mosh-pit, he almost didn’t have to rap “Cadallactica” at all & he saved my favorite song “Mt. Olympus”

The facility will be open to the public on a regular basis for access to learn about the history of Capricorn Studio.

“The Capricorn studio building is chock full of musical history. This is where I had the honor of recording many hit records with the Allman Brothers band like Rambling Man, Jessica, Midnight Rider and others. We recorded my band Sea Level there...records by Wet Willie, Charlie Daniels and so many other artists were made here. It warms my heart to know this historic building will once again breathe life and be put to good use.” - Chuck Leavell, Keyboardist, The Rolling Stones Mercer University Launches Fundra ising Campa ign In addition to donating the building, the developers, along with Piedmont Construction, have made a major financial pledge to help fund the building’s restoration. That donation, however, leaves a gap to bring this vision to life. Mercer University is leading a national fundraising campaign to secure the final $1 million to achieve the dream of restoring this landmark building. You may donate today at http://www.mercer.edu/givenow.

With a powerful voice and a mature musicianship beyond his years, Travis has proven himself as a must see live performer. Travis made the move to Nashville in January 2014 to pursue his dreams, and within the first year has made great steps towards a long career in country music. In November of 2014 he signed a publishing deal with Red Creative Group, ran by Songwriter and Producer, Jeremy Stover. On the music he writes and performs, Travis comments, “I like to think that I sing about everything that is me, and everything I know. I’ve grown up in the South for most of my life and everything about it and the things I love shine right through what I write and sing about.” Boot Hill Band HUMMINGBIRD Matt Pippin Band WILD WING CAFE Pippin began playing music at age 11, as a country boy growing up in nearby Juliette. By his

late teens he was sharing the stage with another local country singer, Jason Aldean, in a band they called Young Guns. Matt would later rejoin Jason Aldean in time to play several showcases in Nashville, TN, the last one resulting in Jason getting signed to Broken Bow Records. Matt stayed on for several more months as his Lead Guitarist and background vocalist. However, once the album was completed, the studio band went on to take over on tour. Matt Pippin is now on the verge of taking the country music world by storm! With a new found commitment and years of getting his personal demons behind him, he has emerged as one explosive and dedicated artist. Matt now writes and performs all over the Southeast and has been nominated for several awards by different local music publications! The sky seems to be the limit for this young, yet very experienced, new Artist. Go see Matt Pippin LIVE in a town near you and help support local music!

New Years Eve Tyler Hammond Band THE CRAZY BULL Born and raised in the small town of Thomaston GA, Tyler Hammond started out like many Southern singers do in: In Church. At 18 years of age, he moved away to Milledgeville, to attend Georgia College and State University. This is where the dream of becoming a country music singer began. He began playing the college scene all around the state of Georgia, collaborating with such local song-writers as Thomas Archer, Cole Taylor, Jordan Rager. Tyler first started playing acoustic shows as a duet with Joey Hollis, and quickly found a South Georgia following. After building a touring band and graduating from GCSU, Tyler was ready to take music full-time. The band has since toured full-time since 2009 and has shared the stage with acts such as Luke Bryan, Casey James, Brantley Gilbert, Josh Thompson, Jason Michael Carroll, Blackberry Smoke, and many many more.

Those Cats are a high energy Soul & Funk powerhouse from Statesboro, GA and have been described as “A band whose fresh, funky and soulful sound provides its listeners with a never-ending well of tastefully grooving tracks, perfect for any occasion worthy of music.” The group has released several live recordings over the past three years and their first full length studio album is scheduled to drop in early 2014. Those Cats enjoy collaborating with friends and bands around the Southeast area while aiming to generate a live show that will lift the audience and keep them there! Gaslight Street THE HUMMINGBIRD Soul music will never go out of style. Born in the musical bastion of Charleston, SC, Gaslight Street’s regional presence has grown behind their relentless tours throughout the Southeast and beyond. Featuring the unmistakably soulful lyrics and vocal duo of Campbell Brown and Whitt Algar, the band strongly stakes it’s place as worthy inheritors of the Southern soul tradition.

“Gaslight Street have crafted a signature sound that is equal parts honey and moonshine, with Brown the catalyst for the soul-infused swagger.” ~ Jamie Lee of Honest Tune and Hittin’ the Note magazines

Friday 1/8 Kool Change 20’S PUB Evan Barber & the Dead Gamblers THE HUMMINGBIRD Cosmic Charlie COX CAPITOL THEATRE Cosmic Charlie was born in the musical Mecca of Athens, Georgia. From its summer 1999 inception, the band swiftly cemented its reputation as a band that puts a unique and personal twist on the Grateful Dead catalogue, a Dead cover band for folks that are ambivalent about Dead cover bands. Rather than mimicking the Dead exactly, Cosmic Charlie chooses to tap into the Dead’s energy and style as a foundation on which to build. The result is healthy balance of creativity and tradition, and both the band and its audience are taken to that familiar edge with the sense that, music is actually being MADE here tonight.
