The story is just getting started.
A year-long series with a new chapter every issue. Catch up today! Thousands of people have read the first ten chapters of a year long series we are doing on the life of Ed Flowers, also known as Teddy Bear. Ed grew up in Macon, took part in his first bank robbery when he was fourteen years old, a crime for which he never went to jail for. He went on to play baseball at Dudley Hughes High, under coach Goot Stiener where his team won a State Championship in 1964. He practiced with Pete Rose. But Teddy couldn’t stay out of trouble, and ended up in Reidsville Prison right after he graduated, as fucked up as a research monkey, on morphine. Over the next 10 years, his crimes would land him in prison, to which he escaped five times, be put on America’s Most Wanted list, and is believed by some to have robbed over 60 banks. If this is true, that’s more than Jesse James and John Dillinger combined. We are asking that you buy a VIP Membership to 11thHouronline.com to read the rest of Teddy’s story. It’s less than the price of a digital book. $7.99. For that, you’ll get to read the rest of the story, as well as hear audio interviews with Teddy himself, with online digital video coming this fall. The money will help The 11th Hour continue to offer great content, and calendars and reviews to our readers for years to come. So purchase your membership today and continue to read Teddy Bear. Believe us, the story is JUST GETTING STARTED. VISIT 11thHourOnline.com.

PUT YOURSELF IN PEYTON’S PLACE. HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK ON MACON?
Do you have an idea that makes Downtown Macon even better?
Does it beneit the entire community? Are you the one who can put that idea into action?
The Peyton Anderson Foundation is proud to partner with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to fund $3 million for the community’s best ideas for Downtown Macon through the Downtown Challenge Fund of the Community Foundation of Central Georgia.
The Downtown Challenge of the Community Foundation of Central Georgia is a three-year program that will fund the best ideas to transform Downtown Macon’s business district and neighborhoods into a place that can grow with grace, build upon its good bones, dance to its local rhythm, care for its heart, and coordinate and focus for maximum impact.
The Challenge was inspired by the community input received to create the Macon Action Plan (MAP), a comprehensive, community-driven plan that envisions the future of Macon’s historic downtown and Intown neighborhoods. The Challenge is a chance to implement those recommendations.
“The money I have is not mine. It’s not mine because this money was made in the community, and it was made because the community flourished. Therefore, I was able to flourish and this money rightfully should go back to the well-being of the community.” – Peyton Took Anderson, Jr. Since its inception in 1989, the Peyton Anderson Foundation has invested over $86 million in Central Georgia. Funds support economic development, spur Downtown Macon revitalization, preserve historic treasures, promote the arts, support disaster relief, feed the hungry, invest in healthcare and foster education and well-being of children, including the Peyton Anderson Scholars program that has awarded over $1.5 million in college scholarship funds to highly-promising Bibb County students. “Reward good-doers, instead of do-gooders,” Anderson said. Anderson’s larger-than-life persona was an inspiration to many that continues today. And thanks to his good fortune, you, too, can leave your mark on Macon by getting involved with the many game-changing, good-doing projects the Foundation supports.
Deadline for the initial round of Downtown Challenge grant applications is March 15, 2016 at noon. Details and how to apply are found at DowntownChallengeMacon.org.

"It's certainly not inappropriate to describe James Calemine as a rare poet, even when he's working in prose...but ultimately the categories don't matter. All that matters are the words themselves, and James' words are high octane, electric, significant. I'll go ahead and say it: He's one of our great living American writers, and that's a sure bet." - Daniel Hutchens, Bloodkin

HAPPENINGS, LOCALS & REGIONAL INSIGHTS
By Nicole Thurston With 14 historic districts and six thousand structures on the National Register of Historic Places, we know we have beauty. With 300,000 blooming Yoshino cherry trees each spring, we know we have a reason to celebrate. With an eclectic and lively downtown, we know we have a place to live, work and play. But what about our raison d’etre, that thing that really defines our community? According to new research with Chandlerthinks, Macon is simply Where Soul Lives. From our food to our music, to the colorful characters that make our town unique, from the festivals to the art galleries and beyond, the Macon-Bibb County Convention & Visitors Bureau has coined a new tagline for our hometown and with that comes a whole new branding campaign. “The Song and Soul of the South brand had been used for over 10 years and we began to receive feedback from visitors, clients, and others that while Macon delivered on the “soul”, we weren’t able to deliver consistently on the “song” experience every day of the week,” explains
Amber Caldwell
Master Cosmetologist Esthetician Bridal Specialist
Valerie Bradley, Director of Communications for the CVB, “Although we have a one of a kind musical heritage and great weekend music options, other times of the week there is not as much to do.” The team got together back in 2014 and hired Steve Chandler, marketing and branding consultant, of Chandlerthinks. “Extensive research was done to gain a clear idea of what our brand is and how we are perceived by others. We wanted to discover what others thought were the elements that make us special,” said Bradley, “As part of the research process, Chandlerthinks conducted interviews with community leaders, focus groups, community surveys and awareness perception surveys.” The billboards, flags, and other material are currently up and around town. According to Bradley, the idea was to convey a more playful image of Macon, one that denotes our vibrant and colorful past. “Where Soul Lives was created to speak not only to our rich history, but also of who we are today. Macon is a vibrant, growing city, teaming with hospitality and history, with tons to offer visitors
and residents alike.” Bradley explains that this is really a big deal for our community. “Our new brand Where Soul Lives will allow everyone in the community to rally behind one brand. We can see, feel and hear the soul of Macon everywhere. We experience it in our architecture, restaurants, attractions, theaters, art galleries, events, and so much more. By everyone sharing their “soul stories” in different ways everyone becomes Macon ambassadors and we are able to show others what makes Macon such a great place to live and visit.” What can we expect in the coming months? By April, the CVB will launch their branding toolkit and branding website which will include resources explaining the branding process, Q&A and ideas on implementing the brand into different sectors of business. All of these resources will be available for download. They will also sponsor several musicians at NewTown Macon’s “First Friday” events (from April through October.) Mama Hill and Mama Louise have kept Macon’s most diverse clientele well fed with delicious, stick-to-ya-ribs soul food since Otis Redding was just an unknown band member in Johnny Jenkins’ Pinetoppers. On one fateful day in the mid-60’s a group a long hairs pooled their money together for two plates. Mama Louise felt sorry for them and gave them all a heaping helping. A friendship between her and The Allman Brothers Band was born. A friendship that took her on quite a ride that included a seat on the tour bus in 1972 and lifelong friendships with Gregg and the rest of the band. In 2007, Mama Hill passed on, but Mama Louise kept on keepin’ on. She calls us every other day, saying “y’all ready yet! I’m ready to go back to work.” To which we reply, “We’re almost there Mama.”

NATIVE/NEW
New By way of Indiana Profession General Manager; Shoppes at River Crossing Years in Macon Just over a Year
Eleven Quirky Facts about David: I’m a Parrot Head (nickname for fans of Jimmy Buffett). My dream car is a late 70’s International Scout II. I don’t care much for cats, but… I’d rescue every dog if I could. I was a fan of Otis Redding’s music before I knew he was a Macon native. If a menu offers a burger with a fried egg on it or peanut butter, I’m usually ordering it. I try to eat locally grown foods and grass-fed meat whenever/wherever possible. I kick my feet before getting in my car. I grew up on 50’s-60’s music, courtesy of my dad. In another life I would probably be a truck-driver or a radio DJ. I prefer colorful dress socks over solid, matching colors.
By Nicole Thurston One afternoon, almost a year ago, David Silver was scoping out a potential location for his next move. His company, General Growth Properties, was looking to move him to Macon, Georgia. On this very day, he took a moment to sit in his car outside of one of the stores at the Shoppes at River Crossing. Three kids walked by, joking around. One of the boys knocked a drink out of one of the other kid’s hand. Then what happened next sealed the deal for Silver. One of the other boys in the group walked over, picked up the cup, and placed it in the trashcan. What made the difference? In his words – family values.
grew up in a small rural town outside of Indianapolis. He spent his evenings and weekends playing baseball in the yard with friends, helping his grandfather with old cars, and getting lost out in the woods until it was time to come in for dinner. Family values, small town pride, and the love of the out -of-doors is what drew him to Middle Georgia. “I like its proximity. I love the architecture and history in downtown Macon. I like the restaurants they offer as well. I like the potential that is here.”
Silver has spent most of his adult life working in retail management. “I started in the mall industry in Indianapolis, Indiana with Simon Property Group, the largest mall ownership in the United States. I started in their corporate ofSilver’s dog; Largo. David and his wife moved to fice,” explained Silver, “In 2009, Macon in July of 2015. He took I got out in the field. My first the General Manager position stop was Atlanta, so coming with GGP and The Shoppes at River Crossing and imme- from a small town in rural Indiana to Atlanta was a big diately took a liking to the area. As a young man, Silver change.”
Though he quickly adapted and learned that moving around to different areas was exciting. After Atlanta, he spent two months in D.C. then joined his current company in Sterling Heights, Michigan. His last stop before making it to Macon was in St. Louis, Missouri. When the opportunity opened up to head back down South, he jumped at the chance. What stood out the most to him was how friendly everyone was in Macon. “I can be walking down the sidewalk or at the grocery store and people will strike up a conversation. I got used to that right away.” Not only did he quickly enjoy all that the area has to offer, the position he landed was a successful property. “The mall has been great since we opened up and it’s just getting better and better.” And getting better it is- H&M opening up this Fall in the old Cold Water Creek and Loft location. A Lizard Thicket and Zales will also be joining the ranks of the larger department stores. “The fact that H&M wants to come to Macon, Georgia says something about Macon and what the area has to offer. They usually go into big cities and traditional big malls, and it just puts us on the map more so than we already are.” 11thHourOnline.com 17

STOREFRONT What El Camino Taqueria & Cantina Where 382 Second Street Grand Opening March 18
According to Evans, he and his business partner, Wes Griffith, (pictured right) sat down with one of their top chefs, Brad Stevens, to come up with the idea and concept for the new restaurant. What Stevens was able to come up with was nothing short of genius. “.... He attacked the idea with all the furiousness of an artist.”
The Taqueria will connect to the Cox Capitol Theatre!
Talking Tacos & Tequila By Nicole Thurston
The Moonhanger Group has done it again – they have found a way to bring the love of an authentic taqueria and the fast pace experience of a food truck to Macon. The new addition to Second Street will offer a simple, yet refined menu focusing on tacos, tortas and tequilas. Smoked and braised proteins, fresh ingredients, chef-inspired cremas and salsas, high-quality tequilas and mezcals will all be on the menu. “Wes and I knew it was kind of time for a new concept,” explained Chad Evans, co-owner of the Moonhanger Group, “We thought we could do a nice price point and as a compliment to the Capitol kitchen. We like the food truck energy, indie rock, fast and furious pace, make-a-record energy.” According to Evans, he and his partner, Wes Griffith, sat down with one of their top chefs, Brad Stevens, to come up with the idea and concept for the new restaurant. What Stevens was able to come up with was nothing short of genius. “The three of us were talking, and Brad really wanted the opportunity to go from the Dovetail Menu to the El Camino menu. He attacked the idea with all the furiousness of an artist.”
18 MARCH 8 - 22, 2016
This artistry is just another feather in the Moonhanger Group’s hat. With the already popular Rookery, Dovetail, H&H, and even the event venue of the Capitol Theater, El Camino will spark yet another gathering place for downtown revelers. The idea is not to just offer a typical taco stand, but to take it a little further with the ingredients, something both Chad & Wes are very particular about. “I don’t like the word authentic. I don’t like the word fusion,” explained Evans, “We are doing tacos and tequilas. You have a small kitchen and fairly modest product base, and then you take the hand cuffs off and have a guy go at it.” And the price is right. The average price point for a taco is around $3 or $4. But what about the tequila? According to Evans, their beverage manager, Justin Cunningham, has been moving in this direction for a while. “There are all sorts of tequila as there are whiskeys. The language I really like that we are moving toward is simple & refined. It is small, so simplicity works. We always have a lot of pride on our sourcing of ingredients. That’s not going to be any different with this caliber of tequila. Justin is an incredibly motivated and versed in this.” The Grand Opening of El Camino is going to be Friday, March 18th from 5 – 11:30pm. The restaurant will officially open at open at 5PM, with the Cox Capitol Theatre offering a free show. The doors for that will open at 7PM, with Alanna Royale at 8PM, and Lee Fields & The Expressions at 9PM. “I’m really proud of how organic this process has been,” smiled Evans, “It feels like the taqueria is coming at the right time with the right people and the town is ready. It’s been a complete labor of love. Wes and I are really happy with how this process has been.

Born in 1974 in Atlanta, Georgia, Thomas DeCarlo Calloway, better known as CeeLo Green, made a name for himself with the Atlanta hip-hop group Goodie Mob before going solo in 2002. Between solo records, Cee Lo
teamed up with Danger Mouse in 2005 to form the duo Gnarls Barkley.
Back on the scene with a new solo album in 2010, the singer-songwriter hit the top of the charts in an unlikely fashion with the single “F--- You,”
which was an instant hit. In 2011, Cee Lo began his run as a judge/coach

First off, just want to say I’m a huge fan. Loved Goodie Mob. The Soul Machine record is still one of the most played albums at my house. Before you had huge hits with Gnarls Barkley, before F*** You. You were already big shit to me. Ha. Aww man. Thank you. Now I know you don’t remember this, but you came to Macon about 10 years ago, played this little club called Studio 32. You had a full band, horn section. I tell people literally every week that it was the best show I’ve ever seen in Macon. I’ll never forget that you jumped off the stage and kind of landed in my arms. You were covered in sweat, and my first instinct was to wipe it off my face. You grabbed my hand and said “Hey man, That’s CeeLo sweat.” To this day, I haven’t wiped it off. Does that freak you out? (Laughs) I do remember that band. We were tight man. And hell no, you can’t freak me out. It’s strange because another person said that same thing to me, after bumping into me in his dressing room. Are you familiar with Bobby Rush? Of course I know who Bobby Rush is. He travels with the female dancers. Sings the blues. Well he also instructed me not to wipe his sweat off of me. So really, my musk is an amalgamation of CeeLo Green and Bobby Rush, which I’m really happy about. You killing me, man. Ok. Tell me about growing up. I know your Dad passed away pretty early on. Your mom was a minister and a firefighter right? Tell me about her. Dude. My Mom was an amazing woman. She still is, because she is still alive in me. Even though she’s passed on, she’s alive. All of my energy, all of my accomplishments, I’m my mother’s work. My mother is my means of understanding. A lot of people don’t get that understanding is a feminine quality. She taught me to get in touch with my feminine side, but she also taught me to be a lady’s man. Her name was Shelia. When I look at the things I have accomplished in my life, it looks big, but still I think, how can someone be a minister and a firefighter, and a young black woman, in one life? It’s crazy! Craaazy? Stop. But I can’t even say I miss my mom, because she’s really still alive to me. They just don’t make people like her anymore. My parents are probably of the same generation -- my father passed this year, and that was a thought that I’ve had a lot. There won’t ever be anyone else like him. It kind of influences who I am. That’s exactly what I’m talking about. They don’t. And their energy passes on to us. And we keep it alive. And you would think that wouldn’t be so important. Society has advanced, technology has advanced, black people have advanced. You would think that
it would make better people. Sometimes, I’m not so sure it has, especially when you compare us to that great generation. You went to military school. Were you a troublemaker? Yeah, I was. But looking back, more than a troublemaker, I think I was already an artist. I just didn’t have an outlet or an identity. I don’t think anyone realized that I was born an artist. I should have been going to a school of the arts. When I read that today, though, it kind of made sense that you had that in your background. Watching your career, you’ve always seemed pretty aware of yourself, of your trajectory. Did the discipline of military school help hold you together? Yeah, they didn’t put up with any nonsense. They did sort of ushered me into a positive direction. But a lot of people don’t know, bro. I’m all art. I’m all joy, and I’m as much love as you can stand. But I’m also a very serious person. And military school probably did help with that. Well you have to be pretty serious to accomplish what you’ve accomplished. Absolutely. I’m well-equipped to defend what it is that I do. I’m too consistent to be crazy! Talk to me a little about that early Atlanta scene -- Goodie Mob, Outkast, everyone that was creating so much art back then, that it still resonates today. What was it like? Can you imagine what it’s like to be a forefather at 40 years old? It’s surreal. So much of what you see today is an offspring of what we did back then.
bodiment of the time and space that it was captured in. It’s crystallized as an album. But the inner-workings of it were the importance of CeeLo Green returning. You always live in the shadow of your last song. So, I had some colossal shadows to live in. So, if I don’t surpass that, is it under-achieving? I don’t think so. I think we create art to create. I’m never going to stop. I’m going to do all I can. The new album is a continuum. I did so much music for that album that didn’t make the album. It won’t be long before I start premiering music every Monday as part of Mothership Mondays, a new thing I’m doing. What’s the new band you are touring with like? Do you have a band, a DJ? This set, I’m coming with a DJ, some instrumentation accompanying. We wanted to scale the situation down. I wanted to be intimate. We wanted to do smaller venues. We didn’t want some big high-end production. This is bringing it back to the roots. I tell you what I’d love. I’d love for you to do a show where you sing. I’d love to see you do some of the ol’ Al Green-type stuff. I’m assuring you that I’ve gotten really close to doing just that. I want you to know that in the weeks to come, I’m going to be working on something just like that.
Well that worked out good. Yeah, real good.
Who inspires your fashion? I do design everything I wear. The reason I look so different is that I do take influence from different people. Everyone is inspired by someone. You have a genesis type artist, like Little Richard. Who paved the way for him? Think about the power, and the self-assuredness and the awareness of someone like him. I’ve met Little Richard. Him, David Bowie are some of the people I look up to. To me, in today’s world it’s hard to find greatness like that. Will the music that is made today be around 20 years from now like their’s is? I’m not sure. But I can guarantee you, their music will still be around. And that’s the kind of music I want to make. The first ingredient of greatness is having great taste. You got to be a bad mother fucker to stand alone in the art world. I’m a bad mother fucker because I know I can never be alone, because I come from a long line of bad mother fuckers before me.
Tell me about the new record, Heart Blanche. I will say, the true success of this album, is that it still comes across as a genuine emotion. A genuine em-
Wow. How can we top that? You are most definitely a bad mother fucker. Look forward to seeing you soon.
You met Danger Mouse at UGA. Tell me about that first meeting? I met him. I went to the studio. He concluded the session by asking if he could play me a few things. I told him, of course. What he ended up playing me was the greater part of what became St. Elsewhere. I said, “Damn man, these are great. I’d love to use some of your tracks.” He told me he didn’t do tracks, he did albums. I said, “Ok, Mother F****er, let’s do an album.”

Sitting on the floor inside downtown Macon’s Fresh Produce Records, I watched in anticipatory awe as Laney Sullivan sauntered out among the crowd, a smoldering stub of incense in one hand and a recorder in the other. Her lips pressed against the head, the notes flowed out of the instrument like the smoke curling up from between her fingers. Behind her, Jameson Price sat beside his horizontally positioned bass drum in what appeared to be a meditative state, his consciousness almost visible as he centered himself in preparation for his nightly ritual of creating music that serves as a conduit to truly higher consciousness. The notes resonating in my ears, the scent filling my nostrils, I became very suddenly aware that I was about to encounter a profoundly unique experience. This was not the prelude to a rock concert…it was a call to worship. Lobo Marino don’t play your daddy’s brand of folk music. Okay, that’s not necessarily a fair statement. Who knows? Maybe your daddy once sold all of his possessions to travel the globe. Maybe he plays a kaleidoscopic repertoire of instruments including the harmonium and the Vietnamese mouth harp. Maybe he’s befriended buskers on the streets of Varanasi, India and held communion with South American sea lions. Maybe he’s sampled the resplendent chants of worshippers inside a Moroccan mosque…I’ve never been fond of making assumptions. This duo hails officially from Richmond, VA but has cultivated a sound that arrives there by way of a path spanning continents, cultures, and planes of sonic
spirituality. In their own words, Lobo Marino call it “halcyon, experimental folk” (Kudos if you didn’t have to look up “halcyon.” I certainly did.) But in reality, the only way to truly understand the hypnotic, rapturous, transformative mysteries of their music is to experience it. As they the most immediately apparent and arresting evidence of Lobo Marino’s immeasurable talent reservoir is Laney Sullivan’s voice. If there are words that adequately describe the sonic manna that flows forth from inside this woman’s body and spirit, they are not yet known to me. Sitting behind her harmonium, pumping the air full of its gentle melodies, she sings with the power of a siren calling us not toward the shores of perdition but to a land flowing with musical milk and harmonic honey. Providing dulcet, rhythmic bones behind his partner’s euphonious flesh, Price spends the majority of the set metering the music’s monastic gait on his bass drum, but also incorporating his signature mouth harp and even a classical guitar, as Lobo Marino leads us a journey that somehow transcends the auditory sense and directly permeates the com-
mon core of our human spirit. Over the course of their exquisite performance, they demonstrated over and over again how their music strives to derive a common denominator of love and compassion from the human experience of each listener. Lobo Marino’s catalogue of recorded music is far too vast to ever fit into a single performance, but every second of it is well worth pondering. (Check it out on their bandcamp page: http:// lobomarino.bandcamp.com/) So far, my favorite album of theirs is City of Light, a rich, kirtan-based body of work that is as transcendental as it is beautiful. Whether you find Lobo Marino’s music through live performance or recording, do not hesitate to open both your heart and your mind to the impression of its formidable beauty. Whatever or whoever it is that you worship, that you place at the center of your existence, the music of Lobo Mario will draw you closer to it. As thoroughly as I have enjoyed familiarizing myself with their existing catalogue, I cannot help but suspect that Lobo Marino has yet to create their opus. And when they do, it will be a record for the ages.

MACON MUSIC
It’s not just about our past. It’s about standing on the shoulders of that past to reach as high as the hair of Little Richard’s original pompadour. The Georgia Department of Economic Development says it’s Georgia’s musical heritage, the hometown superstars, and the wonderful venues that are helping the tourism industry in Georgia, and thus, 2016 will be the ‘Year of Georgia Music.’ Governor Nathan Deal stood with tourism officials Tuesday from around the state to champion an impact of over $57 billion on Georgia’s economy. The industry leaders presented Deal a check to signify the $3 billion in state and local tax revenue generated because of tourism expenditures.
It’s the Year of Georgia Music:
How Will Macon Make Our Mark? b y J E S S I C A WA L D E N Co-owner, Rock Candy Tours Just when it looked like the wrecking ball was coming for the Capricorn Records office building on Cotton Avenue, downtown developer and business owner Bryan Nichols rescued it and is well underway into stabilizing the structure. A couple of blocks away, just when it looked like the Capricorn Studio block would never hear the sound of music again, Mercer University announced plans for Mercer Music at Capricorn, a talent-nurturing launch pad for Macon musicians. And the surrounding blighted block? Just when you thought that corner of Downtown had seen better days, Sierra Development and Southern Pines
Plantation will install the Lofts at Capricorn, a large-scale mixed-use residential and retail development to compliment and protect the landmark music structure. Just when it looked like Macon would always be out-shadowed by Muscle Shoals and Memphis, the State of Georgia went and declared 2016 the “Year of Georgia Music,” put a microphone in the middle of the stage, shine a spotlight and has given Macon a chance to step right up and show the world what we’ve got. So, are we ready to sing our hearts out, Macon? My husband, business partner and music history house historian Jamie Weatherford and I have been filling our calendars with interviews plugging and promoting Macon music heritage – from the unsung heroes like Lucille Hegamin and Emmett Miller to our super heroes like Otis Redding and the Allman Brothers. We’re taking this year seriously, treating our small side business Rock Candy Tours like the tourism generator it should be. Recent survey research conducted by the Macon-Bibb Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) through marketing firm Chandler Thinks revealed “historic” is what Macon does best, with the city’s music heritage highly cited as our greatest attraction asset. It was also revealed to be under-utilized in tourism with a “product delivery issue on southern rock history.” In other words, we need more music tourism product. The Allman Brothers Band Museum at the Big House is the second most visited attraction in Macon, next to the Ocmulgee National Monument. They’re bringing us the visitors. Here’s our chance to hold up our lighter, shoutout “Freebird,” and give them more for a leisure travel
encore (infomercial: Lynyrd Skynyrd has serious Macon roots. Learn more on a Rock Candy Tour). So, while the CVB launches Macon’s new “Where Soul Lives” brand, Jamie and I are hell-bent on putting the rock back in city’s own southern rock opera. Now is no better time for Macon music to shine. It’s not just about our past. It’s about standing on the shoulders of that past to reach as high as the hair of Little Richard’s original pompadour. If you haven’t heard Macon doesn’t have a hell of story to tell, well, then you just aren’t listening. Come take a tour with us at Rock Candy Tours. Join the Macon music movement by supporting our many music assets – Allman Brothers Museum, Acoustic Productions, Arts on Riverdale, Bragg Jam Festival, Corner Concerts, Cox Capitol Theatre, Crazy Bull, Douglass Theatre, Fresh Produce Records, Gallery West, Grand Opera House, Grant’s Lounge, Jazz Association of Macon, Jazz on the Docks, Hummingbird Stage and Taproom, Key Club, Macon Pops Orchestra, Macon Symphony Orchestra, Mercer Music, Otis Redding Foundation, Robert McDuffie Center for Strings, our local restaurants that host live music, Second Sunday and (as dangerous as it is to name names), so very many more. As we celebrate this Year of Georgia Music, share the Macon music story – past and present. Use #GeorgiaMusic whenever you post on social media. Proudly self-appoint yourself a Macon music ambassadors. This is not the time to turn the music down. As southern rock taught the world so well. Turn it up, Macon music. It’s time for a sold-out reunion tour.

Macon Beer Company’s Seasonal Brew of “Macon Love” Returns for Spring The Macon Beer Company announces the return of its seasonal beer Macon Love in celebration of the upcoming Cherry Blossom Festival. The locally made brew arrives in bars and restaurants around Central Georgia on March 1. This is the third consecutive year for Macon Love, the first seasonal beer ever released by Macon Beer Company. Macon Love is a blonde rye ale, fermented with a sweet cherry puree, made from actual cherries sourced from a small family farm in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, giving it a pink hue in honor of Macon’s signature cherry blossoms. As a seasonal beer, Macon Love will be offered for a limited release for spring, starting March 1 with a small commercial batch, followed by a larger regional release during the Cherry Blossom Festival, and ultimately, offered in 22-ounce bottles (also known as bombers). “For the third year in a row, this seasonal brew sets out to capture the essence of early spring in the south,” said Macon Beer Company Owner and Brew Master Jeremy Knowles. “Inspired by our blossoms, Macon Love is a cherry blonde ale created with that sense of excitement and celebration in mind, primed for painting the town pink.” While orders will start arriving in restaurants and bars around March 1, the Macon Beer Company currently has a keg of Macon Love already tapped in their Tasting Room. Tours and Tastings are currently being offered every Saturday from 1-6 PM and every third Thursday evening. Macon Love joins Macon Beer Company’s flagship brew Macon Progress on taps throughout Central Georgia. Other seasonal brews the beer company offers include Macon Music, Macon Movies, Macon Bears, Macon Mounds (new for 2016) and Macon Dreams (new for 2016!).
Join Macon Beer Company on St. Patrick’s Day for brewery tours, beer tastings, and a canned food drive! Get $1 off entry for every canned good you bring, up to $5 off. Our seasonal cherry blonde ale, Macon Love, will be on tap, along with 4 other brews. Admission is $12 and includes a tour, 6 tasting tickets, and a souvenir pint glass. Each ticket can be traded for a 6-oz. pour from beer of choice into your glass. You must be 21 or over to enter, but kids 12 & under may come with adult supervision.

1. Favorite Cocktail
Ramos Gin Fizz. This is also a classic, first introduced in New Orleans in the late 1880’s, and requires a solid 6-8 minutes of shaking to properly form the body of the drink (the recipe calls for an egg white, which, when shaken correctly, forms a cold fusion meringue that results in a beautiful layer of thick, rigid foam on the top). While the drink is absolutely delicious (gin, lime juice, lemon juice, simple syrup, heavy cream, orange blossom water and an egg white!) and glamorous in appearance, the preparation is equivalent to a short and intense work out using a frosty, highly-volatile shake weight, in front of a lot of curious people...not my idea of a good time.
2. Do’s & Don’ts
I always love when someone comes and sits at my bar with an open mind. It is in my nature to not only enjoy trying new things, but also to encourage you, as my customer, to do the same. I love surprising people - crafting a cocktail that you might otherwise never experience because the list of ingredients is daunting and unfamiliar, or because you’ve had a previously unpleasant experience with a particular spirit. DO allow me to craft something customized just for you - give me the room to teach you something new, and give me absolutely honest feedback. Just, whatever you do, please don’t get mad when I tell you that we don’t have Bud Light.
3. Hobbies
I thoroughly enjoy writing music, playing piano and guitar, singing, and endeavoring to learn how to record it all by myself. Music was, is, and always will be my favorite expression of art and emotion. I also enjoy tinkering with jewelry that I sell on Facebook, Etsy, and at a locally owned boutique in Charlotte, North Carolina - cooking, reading, and soaking up as much of the great outdoors as my schedule allows.

Indigo Girls COX CAPITOL THEATRE The Indigo Girls have spent thirty-five years performing together, produced fifteen albums (seven gold, four platinum, and one double platinum), earned a Grammy and seven Grammy nominations, and have toured arenas, festivals, and clubs the world over. It is rare to find musicians together so long, rarer still with such profound successes. Their music lives in the hearts of generations of dedicated fans and continues to inspire young musicians. This loyalty is not accidental. Perhaps their relevance over three decades can be credited to the mighty collisions of distinct aesthetics forging new paths over time. The Girls’ refinement — not only of style and skill, but of their own creative processes — allows access to ever new and liminal spaces. Saliers and Ray live separate lives, take on independent projects, but share “the same set of values,” says Saliers.
