Megan Lloyd Speech 3 Question #1 Describe a time that you handled a conflict or challenging situation; what was the outcome? 

During my last two years of high school I joined a class called Building Trades in the LTCC. (Lebanon Technical Career Center) I knew I was pursuing a career in the building arts and wanted to further my education the best I could. o I lived at the time in a small rural town in Missouri called Lebanon. And out of

my whole Building Trades class I was the only female. Building Trades was a carpentry class which every two years completed building a house start to finish. The students would learn a little about blueprinting, carpentry, how to use power tools, and the part I was most excited for, we did the Interior Design work. o My Senior year in the class my instructor Mr. DeNooy put me in charge of the interior spaces. He let me choose paints, flooring, cabinets, the sinks and lighting

in each room. It was a fun and amazing experience. Unfortunately, I was not very liked by the boys in my class, and they fought me on every decision. There was one group that even if they agreed with my choice of paint or a

flooring option, they would fight me just to rile me up. o I tried not to argue back, I tried to compromise on ideas I had and ideas they had. To try and work together we would look through catalogues and go through stores

together, and then everyone would vote on what they thought we should choose. Eventually we formed a professional relationship. We never became close friends or anything like that. However, we learned to work together to solve problems on the house

Question #2 Tell me about your favorite project in your portfolio. 

My favorite project I had was for a 3-D design class I took my Freshman year of college.

o It was a project in which we had to mix a creature with an article of clothing. I made a Phoenix cape, where I was portraying the fall of the Phoenix where it dies 

and then is reborn. What I really loved about the project was when I presented. o I had no idea at first what I was going to do when presenting, and when I came in early to prepare I talked with another student in my class who was also doing a

bird related outfit. Hers was a peacock dress. After talking for a while about our projects we decided to present ours together. o In the time before class started we choreographed a dance routine, set up the music to play in the background, and did our makeup to match the birds we were

portraying. We decided I would come out first and twirl around in my cape to the sound of fire, and then she would come out and steal the show with her bright and vibrant costume and makeup. After she danced a little I would come back in and we would nod to each other and do a dance together, which happened to be the chicken dance. The end to the presentation was me falling to the ground dead, and then pulling my cape off and saying I

have been reborn. Hence the rebirth of the Phoenix. To this day, it is still one of my fondest memories of freshman year, and I’m still very good friends with the girl I presented with, we have worked on several projects together since then.
