601 December Evaluation

Page 1

DECEMBER I’ve really picked myself up over the last six weeks, and I’ve been pushing on with my practical work. I think working on my essay early on has been really beneficial, as I’ve been almost able to take a break from it to focus on my practical work. I think this has really taught me a lot about project management, as to pre-empt deadlines, as I have been able to complete a lot by doing a small amount throughout. Something which has been really successful is my exploration and play with different media. For the first time I’ve been able to quickly completely make and print three screen prints in one day, which was a really fun way to play with process. I also found that my not worrying about them being particularly neat, I have successfully identified the key aspects I wanted to expand on early through application of media. This has meant I have been able to complete my final outcomes before the Christmas holidays, which I’m really happy with.

I’ve really enjoyed myself recently, and I feel that through all the play I have done through collage, print and daily drawings has meant I’ve really engaged with my project on an extremely personal level. Surprisingly to me, I’ve enjoyed putting my learnt theory into practice, especially through colour choice, as I have been able to make more informed, grounded choices which reflect what I have learnt throughout the research. Something which I am currently struggling with is the application of my outcomes, as normally I just have to focus on applying my designs in a conventional way. However, I really want to balance the sustainability and design, and would like to emulate the printing onto glass. I’m finding it difficult to create mock ups which reflect this, and hopefully I will come up with some ideas over the holidays. I also has a few major issues, such as printing the wrong colours onto fabric, but because I have been a lot better with time management, I was able to rectify this shortly after.

‘In retailing, I see the brightest future and greatest opportunity for the small retailers where true innovation, passion, and drive for excellence reside. Their key advantage is flexibility’ -Danziger, 2006, p. 274

Throughout the rest of this project, I would like to produce high quality mock-ups, as I really want this project to have a successful conclusion to reflect how much I care about the cause, and reflect the effort I have exerted to promote sustainability. I would also like to continue to document the waste I produce over the Christmas holidays, as this is really becoming an eye opener as to how I can reduce a lot of waste.
