Wall Denounced Trudeau Radio Sursagar /Punjabi National Edmonton (ATB): Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who said oil workers left out of an employment insurance boost should be “pleased” that their region wasn’t as hard hit as others was denounced by Brad Wall, Saskatchewan Party Leader. Wall says he knows people in southeast and southwest Saskatchewan communities such as Swift Current, Estevan and Weyburn who have been out of work for a long time. They are “not happy,” Wall said. “I just wonder about characterizing it as, ‘Well, you should be happy that the unemployment rate’s not high enough in southern Saskatchewan to warrant the help that other parts are getting,’” said Wall during a media scrum last week in
Yorkton, where he was campaigning in the final days before provincial election. “They’ve lost their job because of low oil prices, why in the world would they exclude southwestern Saskatchewan, s o u t h e a s t e r n Saskatchewan, and why then would anyone say, ‘You should be happy about that.’ We’re not happy about that.” Last week’s federal budget boosted employment insurance benefits in some parts of the country, but left some areas of the oil patch out. The government said it picked 12 regions
that needed the most help with extra weeks of benefits for jobless workers. Among the regions chosen: northern Saskatchewan (including Saskatoon), parts of northern and southern Alberta (Calgary was included, Edmonton was not), Newfoundland and Labrador, northern British Columbia, northern Manitoba, northern Ontario, Whitehorse and Nunavut. “I think that both people in Edmonton and Saskatchewan should be pleased that they are not hit as hard as other parts of the country and indeed the province have been,” Trudeau said in a Global Calgary interview that aired last week. “We’re of course going to keep monitoring to make sure we’re doing everything we can for the places that need it.” Trudeau was in Calgary for an EI roundtable where he met with a dozen individuals, including some whose benefits had run out and others receiving the benefit to get their views on what could be done better. The prime minister wouldn’t specifically commit to further improvements to employment insurance, (Continued ...Page 2)

No UK Sikh likes to be called Asian CHANDIGARH The Sikhs in UK are no longer seen as settlers but as citizens. Their spirit of charity and welfare has made them an integral part of the society.Though Sikhs constitute just 0.8% of the population of England and Wales, they are challenging public perception about migrant communities. These are the findings of the British Sikh Report-2016 released in UK Parliament on Tuesday. The annual report, which focuses on the needs and wants of Sikh population in the UK, is based on an online survey of more than 1,400 Sikhs across the UK.Of more than 1,400 respondents, nearly half (48%) of Sikhs identified themselves as British Sikhs and 13% as British. While only 8% identified themselves as Indians, 7% described themselves as Punjabi. Significantly, none of the respondents preferred to call themselves as Asian, a term commonly used for them in the media. For a majority of respondents (60%) caste was not important while 20% said it used to be
important but was no longer so. Only 14% said that caste mattered to them, while 6% were unsure about their response, mostly the young g e n e r a t i o n . Highlighting that the transformation in the identity of Sikh youth in UK, the report says they are moving to newer ways of communication and away from traditional channels like f a m i l y , gurdwaras a n d community socialisation. For young S i k h s , adhering to spiritual traditions as well as engaging with the mainstream culture and politics is a major challenge, the 32page report points out. It’s a sign of the community’s w i d e s p r e a d acceptability that a number of marketing campaigns are using the turbaned Sikh male to celebrate diverse British citizenry, the report says. A large majority of Sikhs now prefer to go

Wall Denounced Trudeau (Continued from Page 1) adding the government is always considering ways “to improve or increase that impact if necessary.” Wall insists he’s not picking a fight with Trudeau. The two have had opposing stances on several notable issues, including a carbon tax, equalization, pipelines, and speed in which refugees were being brought to Canada. Let us see, how things shape up down the line. “We were consistent about this since budget day. We said this is hard to fathom,” Wall said, noting that around 2,000 energy workers in the province have lost their jobs. “I want to give them credit. They actually have stepped up. They’re adding employment insurance benefits by five weeks. Thank you for that. That helps Lloydminster. But how could you miss the other two main areas of our oil sector?”

Lahore attack: Facebook apologises after ‘safety check’ tool goes haywire The social networking website Facebook apologised on Monday after a bug turned its “safety check” feature into a breaking news alert for all users after a fierce blast at a public park in Lahore, causing loss of 69 lives and injuring over 250. Facebook enables the “Safety Check” feature to assist friends and family members know they are secure in case being trapped after a natural disaster or terror attack. But in the case of Lahore terror attack, people nowhere nearby, or even near Pakistan, received notifications, Quartz reported. In fact, people tweeted from New York city, South Africa, Nepal and Canada about receiving the “Safety Check” notification activated after the Lahore bombing.
A Facebook spokesperson said, “We activated Safety Check in Lahore,

Facebook had also activated this feature for its users in floodhit Chennai to provide them with a way to reassure loved ones that they are safe. The blast, apparently
caused by a suicide bomber, occurred in a parking lot at Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park, one of the largest parks in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province of Pakistan. The splinter group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a faction of the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the attack and said it deliberately targeted Christians on Easter Sunday. “We claim responsibility for the attack on Christians as they were celebrating Easter,” a spokesperson for the terrorist group was quoted by the Telegraph as saying. “It was part of our annual martyrdom attacks we have started this year,” he said and warned that more attacks would follow.
Missing for 3 years, dog returns to family A dog that disappeared three years ago finally had his day when he was reunited with his family in Virginia more than 1,500 miles from where they’d last seen him. Ayana Kelly and her family welcomed back their American pit bull terrier Gucci on Thursday. The dog went missing in 2013 from the family’s yard in San Antonio, Texas, two weeks before they moved to Norfolk, Virginia. The family made fliers and searched the neighborhood but
didn’t find Gucci, Kelly said. She said she thinks someone took him.
“We were devastated,” Kelly said. “We really felt like we left a family member behind.” Two weeks ago, Kelly’s husband, Gary, received a call from a

Kelly said she wanted to leave immediately to retrieve Gucci, but it was too far. She hired an animal rescue group, For The Love of Paws R.I. Rescue and

He may have been used for breeding or abused, she said. But after the trip, Kelly said, Gucci was the same gray and white dog when he arrived at his new home late Thursday. He wagged his tail and ran around as if he’d been there before, she said. “He’s the same big baby,” Gary Kelly said.

party. Amidst this my mind drifted to a term I once found while surfing the net, ‘Slacktivism’. It is a combination of two words ‘slacker’ and ‘activism’. Slacktivism as defined in the urban dictionary is “the act of participating in obvious pointless activities as an expedient alternative to actually expending effort to fix a problem.” It allows us to adopt a pseudo activist personality i.e. A slacktivist. The slacktivists think that the problems can be solved by discussing them while sitting on a comfortable sofa in a drawing room or in a party. By doing so they think that it will satisfy the requirements to be an activist. In order to bring change in our society, we need to change the way we think. There is a need to convert the slacktivists into real time activists. We should get it right in our minds that no solution will come out of the drawing room discussions. Instead, we should move out of our houses to propagate our views to the populace. We should encourage
Mahi Ahluwalia +91-9876655553 the masses to exercise their right to vote. A middle class and a higher middle class family discuss politics often because they are very well aware about it but when it comes to voting, everyone thinks of enjoying the holiday because they think that their one vote would not make any difference. Little do they know that every single vote counts. ‘Little drops of water, little grains of sand, make the mighty ocean and the beauteous land.’ So it is good to have political discussions but we should rather take initiatives to make people aware about it. This is the only way if we want our country to develop by leaps and bounds. Eminent men genuinely want to help but actions must speak louder than words. And the actions here are to enlighten the masses to exercise their right to vote.

CRUISE MISSILES: White swan that carries KH-101 and KH-55 cruise missiles Russia responded to the downing of a passenger jet over Egypt’s Sinai province in November by deploying its colossal 24 foot long, two tonne KH-101 cruise missile for the first time. avoid enemy radar, and is said to have an accuracy of between 25m to 30m. Its astonishing range means the KH-101 could be launched from Moscow to hit an enemy base in Syria. The satellite-guided smart rocket hugs the terrain using a digital map, which is downloaded onto its on board computer before it is fired. Both the KH-101 and its predecessor, the KH-55, are fired from Russia’s largest long range strategic bombers, the Tu-95 and the Tu-160.

A bold gambit: New Delhi allows Pakistani investigators in Pathankot airbase but Islamabad must deliver The unprecedented visit of a five-member Pakistani joint investigation team (JIT) to “sanitised” areas within the Pathankot airbase, to investigate the January 2 attack by terrorists from across the border, has broken new ground. The Pakistani team includes a Lt Colonel each from ISI and military intelligence. Allowing them access to the airbase has unleashed a political storm. Congress accuses the government of naively giving the Pakistani establishment a clean chit. Within the government too, defence minister Manohar Parrikar signalled internal unease over the Pakistani visit by choosing to publicly emphasise that his ministry “specially denied them (Pakistan’s JIT) permission to go anywhere in the air base”. He went along because the ministry of defence didn’t want to be seen as coming in the way of investigators. Pakistani investigators weren’t allowed to land at the air force base, keeping in mind security concerns. They had to enter from a specially-made rear-gate and were only given access to the “crime scene” in specially barricaded “non-sensitive” areas. The government has shown political boldness in going ahead with this visit despite the opposition to it. It is calculating that elements within the Pakistani establishment may finally be willing to turn the tide on their policy of cross-border terror. Aimed at keeping India permanently engaged on the cheap, this strategy has instead been devouring Pakistan from within. The terrible carnage in the suicide attack that killed over 70 people at Lahore’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park over the weekend, or the siege laid to Pakistan’s parliament by radical protestors sympathetic to Punjab governor Salman Taseer’s assassin, are cases in point. The problem is that Pakistan continues to distinguish between good and bad terrorists and the path to rapprochement is predicated on the belief that it will eventually stop doing so. Ideally, India-Pakistan relations must move to a paradigm where terror attacks cease to be a game of oneupmanship but instead come to be seen as a threat to both societies. The Modi government is pushing Pakistan to walk its talk. Yet, there is cause to be cautious. After 26/11too, Pakistani investigators visited India but they only acted against petty offenders while big fish remained untouched. Islamabad used similar tactics with the Americans in Afghanistan as well. The Modi government has taken a punt on Islamabad and Rawalpindi’s intentions. How Pakistan follows up on this investigation will be the real test. Yash Sharma

"Zindagi Gulzaar hai"....was a beautiful serial on television. As we were watching the serial with my friends, we started pondering as to really life is gulzaar and happy or sad and dull. Today, we all are busy and strucked up in our respective routines that we hardly have any time for others. Females have become working, juggling between house responsibilities and career. Males have indulged in their respective schedules. Earlier, people had quality time. In those days also, people were ambitious but not desperate. Majority of them lead a contended life with a fixed time schedule. If we talk of villages, people used to sit together, exchanged pleasantries. Females did knitting, cooking and for them entertainment was working on charkha or gup-shup with friends or neighbors or relatives. Life was more relaxed in those times. But, now, things have changed. Some for the betterment and some for the worst. 'Zamana badal gaya'…Ghor kalyug aa gaya…Pyar kahin piche reh gaya..Paisa sabse upar ho gaya…said an old man to his grandson reminiscing the past. Big buildings, modern outlook, western impact, laptops,
L.E.D's, has completely changed the scenario of present times. To earn more than the other person, to excel in comparison to other person at any cost have somewhere inculcated negative vibes around us. The line "Sabse badda rog, kya kahenge log'" drives us. We are least bothered about ourselves but we are fully interested in other's life. Before taking any major decision of our life, we think thousand times as to what will people say. If we talk of marriages, they have turned into deals and no more a 'dil ka bandhan". Dowry, lavish spending on marriages, big cars, big menus has become trademark of present day weddings. Materialism has set in. Neeraj is a hard-working boy. On special occasions like Diwali, to show his gratitude towards his boss, he offered him gifts. His intentions were good and he wished to show his respect. On the other hand, Sanjay is a lazy lad. He doesn't wish to work hard and wants things easily on his side. So, to cover his complexes, he showers gifts on his boss to make him 'happy'. If he'll be happy, he'll get promotions. Unfortunately, people like Sanjay are corrupting the society. Archana was pursuing degree in a college. She had buffaloes at her place. She made it a point to bring lassi for her professor every day. All could see through her game plan. She was doing all this to get good marks,
because her assessment numbers were in her sir's hands. After degree was completed, there was no 'lassi'. It was just to get the degree. Neerja and Kajal were daughterin-laws of the same family. Neerja was money-minded and Kajal gave importance to relationship. Neerja used to flatter her mother-in-law so that in future she gets all the property. But, Kajal could never do this and was real in her dealings. Rabbani had an interest in politics. So, she's getting herself involved in so many kitties. As kitties is a place where you get to meet numerous people at one time. She's not interested in anybody's personal life, but wants to be "known" in her circle. There are many stories. There was a couple named Anamika and Manvinder. Anamika's brother died in an accident leaving behind small children. Both of them did everything for the family to the extent that they married of her three children, which were so small at the time of the tragedy. Her sister-inlaw was very cordial with them until children were not married. Once they helped her in making the new house, marriage of the children, waiving of all the loans, she was very nice. The moment responsibilities were shunned off, she changed colors. She became 'cold' in her behavior towards them. She never invited them in any of her personal functions. This is the height of
selfishness. There are many examples like this around us. Guru Nanak Dev Ji asked his followers to shun five evils which lead to illusion which eventually acts as roadblock towards attainment of salvation. The five evils are… Ego, Anger, Greed, Attachment and Lust…Above examples show these five evils have inculcated in our society. When calculations or negative manipulations come up in relationships that means we are engulfed in greed. To have more property, more status, name and fame, when everything is counted in terms of ', more', greed has set in us. Nowadays, people have lot of craze for abroad. They enjoy those countries and gradually, get struck up in the race for dollars. Many people never return to India. They forget their people left behind them. The reason being they get involved in their new life. They have gone from India so they have no craze for India. They have a clear picture of the things. (There are people who wish to come to India but due to circumstances are unable to come back, whole their life.) People sitting in India have an attraction for the western countries. They have never been there so they show lot of keen interest. Calculation or greed of dollars and beauty of the countries sets them mentally to stay back. For that, they manipulate. Because,
people are ready to give their daughters to N.R.I's, Punjabis settled abroad take full advantage of the mental set-up. In many cases, N.R.I's come, take away dowry and cheat upon their spouses. Sometimes, people from India marries abroad and leave their partners on airport only as their aim of landing up in Canada, or any country is fulfilled. So, it's both side. It can be explained in terms of greed only. Narendra belongs to a village. His neighbors had gone to New Zealand. After spending many years, they are back and first thing they did is they made a lavish house in the village. Narendra is a school teacher with not much of property. He's dissatisfied with his occupation. When he sees his neighbor's house, he also wishes to go abroad, earn money and make a house like him. He has no contacts in those countries. Earlier, he was not very friendly with his neighbor. But, after seeing his new house, he's trying to be close to him so that he can help him in settling in foreign land. So, somewhere manipulation is present. It's sad, looking at so many incidents makes us peep into the negativity which has creeped up in our relationships or in our society. Sorry to say, we live in world where people judge your status on the basis of the cell phone you use. Many females are forming 'calculated' relation with

In 2014, Pakistan launched an offensive against Taliban and affiliated jihadist fighters in North Waziristan, seeking to deprive them of safe havens from which to launch attacks in both Pakistan and Afghanistan. Punjab has traditionally been more peaceful than other parts of Pakistan. Sharif’s opponents have accused him of tolerating militancy in return for peace in his province, a charge he strongly denies. Last year, a bomb killed a popular Pakistani provincial minister and at least eight others when it destroyed the minister’s home in Punjab.

boys after seeing his 'big' car. Boys too are concerned and observing financial status of the girls before committing into the relationship in lurement of good dowry. Man is a social being. To socialize with people, we need to love them, respect them. Not all can become close to us, but we can have our close friend circle. We can't befool anyone in today's time. Not even young children. So, it's very important we should be fair in our dealings. Everybody can see through the plan. That is, if you are cheating, one does understand. He or she might not say something but will always know, what is going around. Cheating in the name of being over-ambitious is no excuse. As you'll become sincere in your relationship you will certainly win great friends. "Time" is a big thing. You never know, when you need another person's help. Be cordial, amiable and affable. ‘We will now be protected’: Sikhs get legal rights in Chile Chile’s more than 200 legally recognised religions didn’t include Sikhism until this January 25. It took the fledgling Sikh community in the South American western-edge country four years to win this privilege. “Now we will be protected, with more safety in our jobs, besides health and political systems,” Rupinder Kaur Khalsa of Sikh Dharma Chile said of the legalisation, adding: “We can even hold public gatherings now.” “The legalisation process started four years ago with the creating of legal documents to describe what a turban and Sikh religion is, who we are, what do we want from legalisation, and what our values as Sikhs are. Then, it was waiting for the Chilean government to approve this, which it did in January,” said Khalsa, as reported by online portal Sikhnet. Sikh missionary Harbhajan Singh Khalsa “Yogi Bhajan” had introduced the
religion to Chile in the late 20th century. Through his inspiration, people in
the South American country began to adopt the faith. Now, there is a thriving community
of Chilean-born Sikh families in the country, who organise many religious events.
US museum returns looted statue to Cambodia PHNOM PENH An American museum on Monday returned to Cambodia a 10th-century sandstone sculpture of the Hindu god Rama decades after it was looted from a jungle temple during the kingdom’s civil war. The 62-inch-tall torso, which was stolen in the 1970s from the Koh Ker temple site near the famed Angkor Wat complex, was handed over by the Denver Art Museum at a ceremony in Phnom Penh. The statue - still missing its head, arms and
Matrimonial feet - had been in the museum’s possession since 1986, the Cambodian government said in a statement. “We are joyful with the torso of Rama returning home,” Cambo-
dian official Yim Nolson said at the ceremony, adding that the joy was tempered by the fact that the head was still missing and its whereabouts unknown.
