For t McMur ray Fire still Uncontrolled Edmonton (ATB): The Fort McMurray wildfire is 2,290 square kilometers up from about 2,040 square kilometers on Monday. Travis Fairweather, a wildfire information officer for Alberta, says hot spots can ‘sort of simmer under the surface for a few months’ and then flare up again. (Wildfire Alberta)The main reason the fire got bigger, Fairweather says, is that the main Fort McMurray fire merged with a much smaller, separate fire that had been burning to the northeast. The smaller fire, which measures roughly 250 square kilometers, actually started when embers blew off the main fire into the woods. Thanks to favorable weather conditions, the wildfire isn’t expected to grow significantly in the coming days. The main factors that affect wildfires are heat, dryness and wind, so ”less windy the better, cooler the better, more moist the better,” he says, noting that rain would be ideal, but even humidity helps firefighters. The Fort McMurray wildfire has been travelling east and is about 25 to

30 kilometres from the Saskatchewan boundary, according to the Alberta government’s latest update on Tuesday. Flames are really only visible at the front of a large active wildfire, Fairweather says. The rest is “fields of just black ash” left behind. That huge burnt area — including within Fort McMurray — is extremely dangerous and firefighters have months of work ahead of them, he says. They will do infrared scans from the air to find “hot spots” where smoke c o n t i n u e s to smoulder underground. “Stuff like that can sort of simmer under the surface for a few months even and then flare back up when you get, you know, some hot weather and some winds again,” Fairweather says. To make sure that doesn’t happen, crews dig up the ground to find

the smoke and extinguish the fire. “They’re working with chainsaws and hoses and axes and shovels,” he said. “It’s really, really gruelling work out there for them.” The fire is “all out in the trees right now,” Fairweather says. But crews are taking precautions in communities to the south, including Anzac and Gregoire Lake Estates, because “fire’s very unpredictable and you never know what’s going to happen with the wind.” Crews are setting up a ”dozer guard” in those areas, clearing trees so there’s no fuel for the fire to burn if it arrives. The dozer guard stretches for many kilometres, he says. If the Fort McMurray wildfire m o v e s into Saskatchewan, Alberta firefighters don’t just pack up and hand off to (Continued... Page 4)

Nepal denies rumours of expelling Indian ambassador

Edmonton Police organized 5th Ground Hockey match involving South Asian Youth last week, “ Idea is to encourage youth to see Policing as a career, shun drugs/alcohol abuse and visualize Police as a friend in need” expressed Constable Harman Rangi, the driving force behind this initiative

War against ISIS illegal? US Army captain sues Obama Washington An Army Captain is suing US President Barack Obama, arguing that the war against the Islamic State is illegal because it has not been authorized by the Congress. “Under the 1973 War Powers Resolution, when the President introduces US armed forces into hostilities... he must either get approval from Congress within sixty days to continue the operation, in the form of a declaration of war... (the) president did not get Congress’s approval for his war against IS in Iraq or Syria... the war is therefore illegal,” said Captain Nathan Michael Smith, a military

intelligence officer, in court documents filed in the US District Court in Columbia on Tuesday. The court documents say that the 1973 War Powers Resolution was enacted by Congress to prevent presidential overreach and protect Congress’ right to vote on whether and when to go to war. The resolution was created after Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon escalated the war in Vietnam and

extended it into Laos and Thailand as a general “war against communism”. Captain Smith, 28, according to RT, was commissioned in 2010 and deployed to Afghanistan for eight months in 2012. He is from a three-generation family of military officers and has been deployed in Kuwait with the Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve, which is the campaign against the Islamic State. “I

joined the military in 2010 because I believe the US military is a force for good in the world... (like) everyone, I was taken aback when I saw IS sweep through Syria and Iraq, seizing city after city, town after town, with their beheadings and crucifixions, laying to waste all in their way.” “They are an army of butchers. Their savagery is sickening,” wrote Captain Smith in the court papers.“When President Obama ordered airstrikes in Iraq in August 2014, and in Syria... I was ready for action.. we were all cheering every airstrike and every setback for IS... I was also noticing that people at home

were torn about whether President Obama should be carrying out this war... I began to wonder, ‘IS this the Administration’s war, or is it America’s war?’ ...My conscience bothered me,” he added. O b a m a administration officials, including Secretary of Defence Ash Carter, have repeatedly asserted that they have the legal authority to conduct the fight against the IS. The Army Times reported that the Pentagon was operating under the broad permission “in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism” against the US, in its fight against IS.

Nepal has rubbished rumours of plans to expel Indian Ambassador Ranjit Rae following the cancellation of President Bidhya Devi Bhandrai’s visit to New Delhi and the recall of its envoy from New Delhi. Rumours were in circulation in Kathmandu from Sunday that the government was preparing to declare Rae, who was said to have breached several diplomatic norms - including the Vienna Convention persona non-grata (PNG), meaninging his diplomatic immunity would be withdrawn. The rumours gained ground after Prime Minister K.P.Sharma Oli cancelled Bhandarai’s visit and recalled Nepal’s Ambassador to

India Deep Kumar Uphadhya apparently in retaliation of India’s supposed hand in toppling his government. After some media outlets reported that a closed door meeting at Oli’s residence discussed possibility of declaring Rae PNG, this simultaneously created turmoil in New Delhi and Kathmandu prompting Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa to issue a statement on Sunday evening saying: “Some media speculation regarding Nepal government mulling expulsion of Indian Ambassador Rae is baseless and is aimed at damaging NepalIndia relations.”

1500-year-old mummy discovered wearing, er... Adidas?

Footwear companies like Nike and Adidas are supposed to have an ancient rivalry. But clearly, no one thought it was this ancient. Mongolian researchers unearthed a 1,500-year-old mummy wearing red boots with three distinct stripes - much like the emblem of sports gear manufacturer Adidas. Talk about putting your best foot forward. The discovery is intriguing many, but for different reasons. While Mongolian researchers were elated about discovering one of the most “complete” Turkic burial sites.

their Saskatchewan c o u n t e r p a r t s , Fairweather says. “[The provincial boundary is] sort of an imaginary line when you think about it,” he says. “We all work together.” Alberta firefighters are dealing with a similar situation on the other side of the province, after a wildfire that started in

British Columbia recently spread across the Alberta boundary. “We have longstanding relationships with our surrounding provinces,” Fairweather says. “We were helping out before it got to Alberta and now that it’s on the Alberta side as well we’re helping even more.” About 700 firefighters are working on the Fort McMurray wildfire.

Twenty-six helicopters are being used to transport crews and to pick up and drop water and 13 air tanker planes are carrying water or fire retardant. There is a total of 1,547 firefighters, 121 helicopters and 28 air tankers battling 25 wildfires across Alberta right now, according to the provincial government’s latest update.

Rite of passage – Randy Youngman, 6ODLQ JDQJVWHUV¡ PRWKHUV Regional Traffic Safety Consultant XVH OHJDF\ RI IHDU ZLQ SROOV

Obtaining yourdriver’slicense for the first time is generally viewed as a rite of passage from childhood into the adult world. A driver’s license is a symbol of freedom and independence. However, with that freedom comes great r e s p o n s i b i l i t y. Operating a motor vehicle not only gives you great freedom but it is also freedom that can turn deadly in an instant! Over the course of a year too many young drivers (between 14 - 24 years of age) are killed and injured each year. Although young drivers represent only a small percentage of the province’s licensed drivers, they tend to have the highest casualty collision rates of any age group. In Alberta, we have a Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) system that strives to improve road safety by extending the learning stage for new drivers, regardless of age. New drivers gain more experience and improve their skills under low-risk conditions before graduating to more demanding driving conditions. To become fully licensed, new drivers must show responsible driving behaviors, smooth

vehicle handling skills and pass an advanced road test. The first stage in obtaining a driver’s license is the “Learners stage. To obtain a Learner’s License (Class 7) you must be a minimum 14 years of age or older and must pass a vision test and a knowledge test on the rules of the road. The “Driver’s Guide to Operation, Safety and Licensing is available on line for test preparation. There are also other Learner’s Prep kits available at Registries that will help you prepare for the testing procedures. If you are under 18 years old you will also require parental consent. You must hold the Learner’s license (Class 7) for a

minimum 1 year. During this period of time you must always be accompanied by a fullylicensed (non-GDL probationary) driver who is 18 years of age or older and who is seated next to the driver. Learners license holders have numerous other rules and regulations that are unique to their class of license. To become a Probationary Driver (Class 5-GDL) you must be at least 16 years of age and have held a Class 7 license for at least one year. Getting your Class 5 – GDL will involve a road test designed to test your skills in the real world. You will be required to hold your class 5 – GDL for a minimum 2 years. As a probationary driver

there are many rules and conditions that must be followed one of which is that you cannot act as an accompanying driver to a learner. To become a fully licensed Class 5 driver you will have to have been suspension free for the last year of the 2-year Probationary stage. You will be required to pass an advanced road test. London elects its first Muslim mayor Finally, what had been predicted with certainty before the UK mayoral elections has come true. Sadiq Khan, son of a Pakistani immigrant bus driver, has been elected to the highest political office in a leading Western capital despite much muck-racking and innuendos about his alleged links to extremists. What does his election represent? Is it a triumph of hope over despair and narrow mindedness? Yes, indeed. The new London mayor-elect aptly summed up the moment by saying Londoners rejected politics of fear by embracing unity over division. The Conservatives lived up to their image by using all dirty tricks in the book to stop the inevitable win of the Labor candidate. Sadiq Khan was elected mayor of London in an extremely bitter contest against his main rival, Zac Goldsmith, the son of a billionaire businessman. Goldsmith was accused of running a divisive and racist campaign for referring to Khan with such labels as “radical and “dangerous, which were as code for his religion. Jac Goldsmith, the Tory candidate, plumbed new depths by suggesting Khan had given oxygen to extremism by sharing platform with hate-spewing extremists. Even Prime Minister David Cameron, who is otherwise a suave and gentle leader, plunged into the gutter by linking the Labor candidate with religious extremism in a parliament speech. But Khan stood his ground, refused to join his opponents and won the hearts of Londoners. Zac’s tactics backfired, as Khan won overwhelmingly, 57% to 43%. Now, he should work to live up to the expectations of people who elected him, especially on housing and cheaper transport. In a fascinating twist, Goldsmith’s sister, Jemima (Gemima) Marcelle Goldsmith, a journalist who once married and divorced Imran Khan. Imran Khan was one of Pakistan’s greatest cricket players of all time, and was once voted as the “Sexiest Man of The Year by Australia Magazine Oz. He turned to politics in the 1990s, and has become an extremely colorful and extremely anti-American politician. Jemima, who is Zac Goldsmith’s sister and Imran Khan’s ex-wife, congratulated the new mayor, describing him as a “great example to young Muslims. Readers should also keep in mind that Imran and Gemima Khan both, fully aware of his anti-Muslim stance, wholeheartedly campaigned in Zac’s favor. A Pakistani immigrant son’s rise to London mayor London’s new mayor Sadiq Khan has gone from a public housing estate in the British capital to running the city, a remarkable rise for the Pakistani immigrant bus driver’s son. The 45year-old, a former human rights lawyer and an opposition Labor lawmaker, was swept into City Hall on 57 per cent of the vote, becoming the first Muslim mayor of a Western capital in the process. After a campaign that saw his main rival try to establish links between Khan and extremists, the mayor now faces the task of bringing London’s diverse communities together to keep it on its perch as a top world city. In his acceptance speech, Khan promised to be a “mayor for all Londoners and said his late father, who emigrated from Pakistan in the 1960s, would be “so proud. I never dreamed that someone like me could be elected as mayor of London. And I want to say thank you to every single Londoner for making the impossible possible today, he said. Khan’s journey to City Hall is like a modern fairytale. Born in London in 1970 to parents who had recently arrived from Pakistan, Khan was the fifth child out of seven brothers and one sister. He grew up in the public housing in Tooting, an ethnically mixed residential area in south London and slept in a bunkbed until he was 24. His modest background plays well in a city that is proud of its diversity and loves a self-made success story. Khan regularly recalls how his father drove one of London’s famous red buses and his mother was a seamstress. One of his brothers is a motor mechanic. He is a handy boxer, having learnt the sport to defend himself in the streets against those who hurled racist abuse at him and two of his brothers are boxing coaches. He also ran the London Marathon in 2014. At school, he wanted to study science and become a dentist. But a teacher spotted his gift for verbal sparring and directed him towards law. He gained a law degree from the University of North London and started out as a trainee lawyer in 1994 at the Christian Fisher legal firm, where he was eventually made a partner. He specialized in human rights, and spent three years chairing the civil liberties campaign group ‘Liberty’. Yash Sharma

Human Relationship is complex, yet beautiful. Any beautiful relation can't be taken for granted and should not be taken for granted. Negativity and positivity are two sides of a coin. You cannot have a positive life and a negative mind. It's our attitude that decides what we focus upon in our life. Once Shakespeare said, "CHARACTER IS DESTINY". How true he was‌‌ Up's and down are part of everyone's life. What we focus, how much we focus upon any issue, surely rely upon us. Nihaarika recently got married to Nikhil. Nihaarika started the 'first' day of marriage by preparing breakfast for the family. Meanwhile, her mother called up and asked her daughter, what were you doing? She said, casually, "I’m preparing breakfast for the family. Strange was the reply a mother could ever give. Her mother in extreme surprise said, why are you making breakfast??? Are you a

maid? That was the first day of the first fight of the first cooking. From that day, interference from Nihaarika's mother started and increased to the circumstances leading to their divorce. In this case, the girl and her husband loved each other, wanted to be with each other, but her mother's superficial behavior has led to this day. Moreover, the girl had no adjustment issues. If we peep into the situation, it was simple Niharikka should have stopped her mother and things would have been better. In normal circumstances also, we do cooking. When mutually, boy and the girl are happy over any issue, then there should be no problem. In any relationship, especially of husbandwife, friends and parents play a pivotal role. Friends are the persons you listen to them completely and sometimes even without applying your mind. Gunjan had some mother-in-law issues. The biggest problem which many females face is of "mama boy", i.e. when your husband listens to his mother the most, ignoring you. Gunjan's husband always sides away with his mother, even if she's wrong. Her mother-inlaw is dominating and manipulative. She's good in front of her husband and negative at

PROVOKED her son's back. Consequently, fights had reached a level where reconciliation between husband and wife seems to be dim. Frustrated Gunjan goes to her mother's house for few days for change. And, she meets Anamika, her best friend since childhood. Gunjan shares her feelings with her. On listening to her story, Anamika advices her to get separated and lead her own life. All motherin-laws hate their daughter-in-laws. They want them to be their slaves. Anamika brainwashed Gunjan's mind. Gunjan went back with all the hatred in her mind. Fights after fights, miserable home atmosphere, every little positive gesture (if any) was seen from the negative perspective. If her mother-in-law talked about some work generally, Anamika's words echoed in her mind that her mother-in-law considers her a slave. Too much stress came from extreme negativity. After few days, they discovered that her husband was suffering from cancer. Doctor said it was because of stress. Later, three of them repented. Sometimes, little bit of tackling can save the situa-

tion. If her husband didn't like anything against his mother, then Gunjan should avoid talking about her. She should be nice to her in-laws and if they say something negative, just ignore. She should try to focus upon her husband or her children or career. Don't spoil the relationship with your husband because of his parents. Say good things about them. If you feel it's tough, then keep quiet. If you want some issue to be talked about with them, ask your husband to do it. Don't come into direct confrontation. These are the simple things Gunjan should try for a blissful life. Arjun and Sonia were happily married for thirteen years, when interference from Arjun's closest friend, Sandeep started. His provoking instinct was so strong that first, he sows the seed of doubt in both of them. Then, just for his mere enjoyment he would call up Sonia many times in a day, and pass false comment like...Arjun is with a girl right now. In reality, he was at the office. Gradually, their relationship went to a pathetic phase. No doubt, the role of Sandeep was wrong but to an extent Sonia is also at fault. It was

Sonia who allowed third person to intrude in their relationship. She trusted a stranger more than her husband. Nowadays, Phone has become an easy accessible medium which adds fuel to the fire sometimes. A female fought with her husband or boss fought with the junior, in minutes the news travels like fire because of the phone. Otherwise, it may take some time and by the time you meet your father or mother, friend your anger cools down. It's not always about husband wife relationship only. Provoking can be in any type of relation or anywhere. At workplace, Prakash provokes his boss against his senior, Dhiraj to be in the good books of his boss. Sometimes, parents unknowingly instigates one sibling against another by commenting, he's so good and excelling. Look at yourself. Without realizing, that they are sowing the seeds of enmity among the siblings. Rajni and Sheila were best friends. In their friendship, Rajni made her servant work for her. In few days, her servant, made best friends as foe, by concocting false stories against each other. And, both of them believed the maid. We live in a society where so much is hap-

pening around us. Many actually have no reason as to why they provoke someone. Some do it just for fun. Provoking instinct is not negative always. Sometimes, we do say something harsh to boost the person or to get positive results. Though, this is rare. In another case, Azhar and Navraaj were class mates. Azhar belonged to a mediocre family and Navraaj belonged to an influential family. Azhar was a little boy and whenever he went to Navraaj's place he would get carried away by his belongings, which was natural as he was a child. Her mother was wise. She never got 'provoked' from his influential status and never went out of the way to provide same 'status' to her child. This is also a kind of provoking. If someone is trying to arouse negative feelings and he's successful, that means there is a lack of trust in the relationship. Generally, people who don't have their own mind or own thinking get provoked easily. It's not necessary that girl's parents are always right and boy's parents are always wrong. Have the insight to look into the situation and don't be judgmental. Be patient. Use your intelligence to evaluate things in order to not get PROVOKED‌

Speaking to the Hindustan Times, Arya said it was “quite a privilege” to chair the group that has almost 80 members. “I think this is the biggest ever,” he said. The meeting for the new group was convened by the seniormost Conservative in the House of Commons, Deepak Obhrai. The members cut across party lines, drawing from the three major Canadian parties – the ruling Liberals, the

Conservatives and the NDP. Members from both chambers of Canada’s Parliament, the Senate and the House of Commons, have joined the group. Among them is Canada’s infrastructure and communities minister Amarjeet Sohi. This group is the equivalent of the India Caucus in Washington. Arya said it will act as “a facilitator to strengthen relations between Canada and India” and strive to “shape the socioeconomic and political” dynamic between the

two nations. He identified as a “priority” working on the free trade agreement between the countries. He also said the group will work on several fronts ahead of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s forthcoming visit to India. Wednesday’s meeting was later also attended by Indian High Commissioner Vishnu Prakash, who told Hindustan Times: “I am delighted at the overwhelming support for even closer IndiaCanada ties among the distinguished parliamentarians, which

reflects the dynamism, depth and potential of our bilateral relationship.” The group has five vicepresidents. Among them are Liberal members of the House of Commons Salma Zaid and Ruby Sahota, as well as Conservative Bob Saroya. The two vicepresidents from the Senate are Conservative Daniel Lang and Liberal Pana Merchant. Arya said he will initiate the process of converting the group into an association so it can formally establish parliament-to-parliament relations with India.

Paris Hilton apologises to UN for picture of orangutan in little girl’s clothes Socialite Paris Hilton has apologised to United Nations officials after posting a clip of her posing with an orangutan online. The former reality star, 35, shared a video on Instagram back in 2014, which showed her cuddling the one-year-old animal from Dubai, named Dior, who was dressed up in little girl’s clothes, reported People magazine. “She’s the cutest little girl in the world,” Hilton said in the footage, kissing the orangutan on the head. “This is baby Dior,” she captioned her post. “She’s a lil (sic) princess.” The social media upload attracted some criticism from animal rights activists at the time, and on May 4, Hilton found herself under fire once more after experts at the United Nation’s (UN) Great

Apes Survival Partnership (GRASP) highlighted the hotel heiress’ post, claiming images like hers hurt conservation efforts to protect the endangered species and instead promote captive abuse. She has since apologised for her past actions, explaining that she never intended to do any harm. “I do agree with what they’re saying. I’m an animal lover. I have friends who actually rescue (captive) animals from these places and they can’t be put back in the wild. So these are animals that have actually been rescued. I just did it because I love animals.” “Great apes are neither playthings nor pets,” GRASP bosses stated, “and Ms Hilton’s lack of perspective is appalling.”

Software security suffers as upstarts lose access to virus data SAN FRANCISCO A number of young technology security companies are losing access to the largest collection of industry analysis of computer viruses, a setback industry experts say will increase exposure to hackers. The policy change at the informationsharing pioneer VirusTotal takes aim mainly at a new generation of security companies, some with valuations of $1 billion or more, that haven’t been contributing their analysis. Older companies, some with market valuations much smaller than the upstart rivals, had pressed for the shift.Alphabet Inc’s Google

runs the VirusTotal database so security professionals can share new examples of suspected malicious software and opinions on the danger they pose. On Wednesday, the 12-year-old service quietly said it would cut off unlimited ratings access to companies that do not share their own evaluations of submitted samples.Analysts and executives at several companies said the changes will leave some services more likely to mistakenly classify legitimate software as malicious and less able to protect their customers from real threats, at least in the short term.
