Native Village/ Country, Parent Background I am a HARD CORE DELHI-ITE, born and brought up in New Delhi. My father was in technical position with THE TIMES OF INDIA and mother used to work in Garment Export Business.

Your Early Education I am a product of Salwan Public School, New Delhi and Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University. After doing my graduation, I was pursuing C. A. (Chartered Accountant) program when suddenly, in an interesting event, my life took an about turn and I was selected for Indian Military Academy, Dehradun to become an Officer in Indian Armed Forces. Thereafter, it was all “Blood and Steel” and “Guts n Glory”.

When and why did you come to Canada?

Coming to Canada was never on my radar. Serving in the Armed Forces was a pride. I was in Infantry (THE PUNJAB REGIMENT) and have served in Kashmir, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and all those sensitive places for 12 years. Frequent change of locations of postings was negatively impacting preparatory education for my son and then my daughter in later years. The movements to non-family stations, remote areas with minimal administrative infrastructure, was detrimental to their academic awareness and success. So we decided to take a hugh leap and gamble to immigrate to Canada. We arrived in Canada in February 1997 Lock, Stock & Barrel!!

What did you do for initial survival?

I picked up a job within 3 days as a Pizza Delivery Driver. It was interesting though as it was a challenge negotiating streets of a brand new city in a different continent, but my Army training skills and instincts came in handy to do it successfully. Later I worked as a Shipper for a Satellite communication Company in Edmonton for a year.

Your Career advancement and Present Occupation From 2000 to 2005, I worked for the City of Edmonton (Driving DATS Wheelchair Bus). I was presented the City of Edmonton’s Mayor’s Award for excellence in Customer Service for working compassionately and doing “above and beyond” while dealing with physically and mentally challenged customers. It was a job and a hugh responsibility in one!

In 2005 I applied for an opening with Canada Post Corporation as a Supervisor for Plant Operations. I was selected over a period of 6 months. Canada Post is a hugh corporation and an absolute nonpartisan or non-discriminatory organization. In 2 years, I was the Shift Superintendent, Shift Manager and then in 5 years I was Process Manager for Alberta. Later, I moved to Winnipeg for 2 years in Western Canada Service & Quality Team and now I am in Class “A” Vancouver Plant as Officer Regional Service & Quality for Western Canada. I look after all Plants and Distributions network in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia to resolve their performance issues in all product lines.

Your regret in Life I do not have a regret in life. My 16 years in Armed Forced were adequate for me to be decisive, execute and take responsibility of one’s decisions. I don’t regret, BUT I MAKE IT WORK!!

Pick Anyone of your Best Achievements I had afair share of honors and Awards right from school days when I was a National Athlete and won the National Award for Track & Field. Later I topped All India Higher Secondary and received a Gold Medal for highest marks in Maths. I earned many laurels while doing graduation YET the one I can always hold with pride is the Mayor Award from the City of Edmonton for providing Service Excellence to fellow Canadians who are mentally and physically challenged. That is one award which is my inspiration and I will always cherish that.

Were you ever discriminated?

In late 1990s, there were still some ignorant white Canadians who thought my presence was an invasion in their land and community. I have heard comments like “Brown Ass” and “go back to your country” etc. All this was to my amusement!!!

What you miss in Canada?

Personally, I miss my Army lifestyle but then that is just ME. We Indians had a close knit family circle and everyone is willing to be just THERE for everyone. That bondage, those sentiments and social etiquettes are missing here.

The society is objective, abrupt and emotionless and that deters a new immigrant.

Although there is no comparison between India and Canada on social, cultural and moral fabric and a lot of water has gone under the bridge to facilitate immigration. Canada is an objective social setup. Here every person is on its own. This makes it difficult for new immigrants and TFWs to adapt to its multi-cultural environment. There is a requirement to have bridging programmes to enable new immigrants merge successfully in this society and uphold its norms. The immediate family life is better, the opportunities for young adults are ample.

Are you Happy in Canada?

Happiness is a state of emotion and it varies. On the whole, I am glad we made the right decision to migrate when we could but then once gas prices, electricity prices, city usage fees, house taxes, political corruption(both subjective and objective) as growing sense of entitlement is witnessed, the happiness takes a back seat.

Overall, I am happy to be in a great Country like Canada who values A LIFE (Whether it be Plant, Bird, Insect, Animal or Human) Why? Canada is still a land of opportunities. There is so much scope for self-development and explore business opportunities. The country judiciously performs its international responsibility to resettle refugees. It attracts large immigrant numbers of skilled workers. The country treats you fairly, whether you are a man, woman, Trans or a person from LGTB community. The social structure supports all irrespective of your backgrounds and traits.

The judiciary is so forgiving that they actually expect you to learn from your mistakes and become better humans. The expanse of Land, the MOST Fresh Water Lakes in the WORLD, The greatest champion of Human Rights. A government so inclusive with Canadians, ample tolerance for all religions and cultures. Where else do you find such cultural and social structure?

Any Comments on Canada’s weather?

I love it! Being in Vancouver I miss the extremities but by God! What a great weather!

Any Comments on Canadian Culture Canada is fairly diversified. Its social structure is based on mutually co-existing humans of various faiths and religions, all peacefully co-existing. Freedoms of human behaviours and existence are already guaranteed under the Charter. It is for those who come here, need to learn to cohabit OUTSIDE their SANDBOX, to accept others faiths and religions around them, to dump what political, social or material pollution they have witnessed from the lands they have come from and to believe that this country is unique in its perspective of a human being. Respect that, follow that and be a productive CANADIAN What brought you success in Canada?

Success in Canada is a very subjective term. Success is always team work and mature team members choose the person they want to succeed. Yet my success (so called) was enabled by the exemplary support of my wife Bhavna Ashta and my two lovely Children Nishchay Ashta and Deeksha Ashta. Their unflinching emotional and moral support, their belief in my initiatives and purpose, their love and affection, ALL made it happen for me! But the buck doesn’t stop here. Although my current position is consolidated, yet there are many more citadels to conquer before I consider myself successful. Or a layman…. U can say that it “Work in Progress” Are you willing to help new immigrants?

Absolutely yes, if needed!

How Well! Knowledge is POWER. It control the access to opportunity and advancement. There are a lot of questions of personal, professional and administrative nature in the head of a person who moves to a brand new country. India has been able to end its status of being a nuclear pariah When New Delhi carried out a nuclear test in 1974, the United States led the international community in imposing a set of technology sanctions against India and other new nuclear powers. The idea was to brand these nuclear outliers as nuclear outlaws.

These sanctions became institutionalised in national-level sanctions and then international regimes. The sanctions also set India an impossible demand even in civilian nuclear power generation. India was told it could carry out nuclear commerce with the world or it could have nuclear weapons, but it could not have both.

Given India has fought wars with only two neighbours and both are nucleararmed, it kept its arsenal and sacrificed the ability to import nuclear fuel, reactors and technology from the rest of the world.

However, even while in this technology wilderness India carefully adhered to the non-proliferation rules and practices of the countries that were inside the global nuclear tent. Unlike Pakistan, New Delhi kept to the straight and narrow, avoiding any rogue nuclear activities like selling centrifuges to the North Koreas and Libyas of the word. India always held to the view that it deserved to be part of the nuclear haves and that it the sanctions regimes were inherently unfair. The nuclear deal that exempted India from some of these sanctions negotiated with US president, George W. Bush, was a first step to bringing India out of the nuclear cold.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his current visit to the United States, took two and a half major steps to end this long injustice and make India part of the global rules-making system that handles so-called “dual use” technology. One step was the formal entry of India into the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR), one of the four discriminatory regimes that looks at ballistic missile knowhow. The second step was the agreement to buy six civil nuclear reactors from the US-Japan firm Westinghouse. This symbolically ended a global boycott of the Indian nuclear market going back over 40 years. The half-step, because it is the first move in what is likely to be protracted diplomatic push, was to formally get the United States to agree to lobby for India to become a fullmember of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), the apex body for the sanctions that were imposed on India. Modi will visit two more countries, Mexico and Switzerland, as part of a concerted push to bring all the group’s members on board.

Becoming a member of these regimes will have many ancillary benefits for India. It will be easier to access technology or work with other countries in a host of technologies relating to the nuclear, defence and high-tech manufacturing sectors.

Becoming an MTCR member, for example, makes it easier for India to export its Brahmos cruise missiles. The possibility of India selling certain classes of indigenous nuclear reactors is no longer unlikely. But the greatest satisfaction in all this will be being able to close the door on nearly a halfcentury of status as a nuclear pariah.

(her) to say no to his advances,” her lawyers wrote.

Theriot denies restraining the woman and says he allowed her to call her boyfriend from the station.

“At no time during these calls did she allege that she was being assaulted,” his attorneys wrote. The woman’s accusations already have ended Theriot’s elected tenure. They also fuelled the collapse of a police force plagued by other allegations of officer misconduct. In 2014, Theriot was sentenced to two years of probation after he pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his sexual encounter with the woman.

The plea deal required him to resign from his post in Sorrento, where sheriff’s deputies now patrol the town of roughly 1,500 residents.

Instead, Theriot’s lawyers claim the woman initiated the “unconsummated” sexual encounter to save herself from jail.

Her “story has inexplicably changed to allege that Theriot physically restrained her with her belt and forced himself upon her, when she originally portrayed herself to the FBI as initiating sexual contact,” his attorneys wrote.

The overall figure also includes administrative costs, courier services, gifts and translation services.

The documents say no invoices were processed for meals and incidentals for the prime minister, his wife and close associates at the time of the accounting. In addition, they say accommodations were provided by the host government for Trudeau and his immediate party.

In a note outlining the costs, the government says the Canadian delegation took important steps to revitalize the Canada-U.S. relationship, engaging the Americans on issues including climate change, environment and energy, international security, counter-terrorism, border co-operation and trade.

Conservatives are watchdogging every penny spent by Liberals which is in the great interest of taxpayers.

2 Hindus among 3 killed as gunmen fire at liquor shop in Pakistan Karachi : Two Hindus were among three persons shot dead when unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire at a licensed liquor shop in the Pakistani port city of Karachi.

Three men, including the two Hindus, were at the ‘Super Wine shop’ in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area on Sunday when the gunmen opened fire, killing them on the spot.

The owner of the shop,

Taru Mal, escaped unhurt.

“Apparently Taru Mal had been receiving calls from a Dubai number for extortion money and he refused to pay,” Senior police official Rao Anwar said.

He said security had been increased at the two wine shops Mal owned after he got the threatening call following a shootout warning him he would be the next target.

Obama preparing to endorse presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton President Barack Obama is ready to make it official. As Hillary Clinton secured the delegates needed to become the p r e s u m p t i v e D e m o c r a t i c presidential nominee, Obama was on the verge of formally endorsing his former secretary of state. And then he plans to aggressively make the case against Republican Donald Trump. White House officials say the announcement could come within days, although not before Democrats in New Jersey, California and four other states vote Tuesday in contests expected to solidify Clinton’s claim. The timeline is likely to hold regardless of how Clinton rival Sen. Bernie Sanders reacts to the Tuesday outcome, the White House said Monday.

Obama called Sanders on Sunday to discuss next steps, according to a Democrat familiar with the call. The Democrat spoke on condition of anonymity because the person

was not authorized to discuss the private conversation, and would not reveal any details about it. White House and Clinton campaign aides have been discussing the sequencing of the longe x p e c t e d announcement, and Obama’s schedule has several possible opportunities for maximizing the impact.

On Wednesday, he’s due in New York City to address donors at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Clinton’s home state. He’ll also tape an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” a favorite with the coveted young demographic, for the show set to air Thursday night.

The news will likely be followed by a first joint appearance before long.

Choosing the setting and timing is delicate diplomacy for the White House. Officials are trying to negotiate as gentle an ending as possible to what has become a contentious primary, hoping not to alienate Sanders’ most passionate voters.

But key dynamics remain unsettled.

Although Clinton has the number of delegates needed to win the nomination, it remains unclear whether she will seal the deal on a high note, with a victory in California, or whether a Sanders win in the state would make O b a m a ’ s endorsement appear more meddlesome.

On Monday, Clinton noted the timing of the expected endorsement has symbolic weight: Tuesday marks eight years since her

concession speech and endorsement of Obama after their 2008 primary showdown.

Campaigning in Los Angeles, Clinton said the timing of an official endorsement was “up to the president.” But she also said she looks “forward to campaigning with the president and everybody else.”

Sanders, asked by reporters in San Francisco if he had talked to Obama, demurred. “Right now we are campaigning,” he said.

Last week, Obama declared the Democratic contest was “almost over” and suggested he was waiting for the Tuesday contests before making his move.
