A Life in an Asylum

Gertrude Elline Parker was a patient in Glenside Hospital. Gertrude was just a young woman, aged 27, when she arrived at the hospital. She struggled with her mental health which was caused by being under a lot of stress and childbirth. While Gertrude was in Glenside, her husband visited her every other Sunday until his death in 1945. However, there is no record of her mother ever visiting. Gertrude Parker died in October 1969. She died because of a lung infection. Gertrude spent 44 years of her life in the Glenside hospital.
