LEADERS OF ENGINEERING POSSIBILITIES Our people are at the heart of our success – past, present and future.
7
4000+ Professionals
In the dynamic world today, we recognise that while it is important to have talented individuals in our team, our decisive advantage lies in our ability to harness our people’s potential. Coupled with the conducive environment that promotes teamwork, we are poised to advance the industry standard – leading the way into the future.
Trained in diverse disciplines, our people are ever ready to deliver value-added engineering solutions across a broad spectrum of disciplines for projects of varying complexity and scopes. Our engineers’ versatility stems from an innovative and forwardlooking work culture that permeates through the organisation across the world. Their unwavering commitment to excellence is inspired by a common aspiration – to engineer tomorrow’s solutions.
8
A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO ENGINEERING Our approach to engineering is to dispense with conventional thinking and constantly push boundaries to deliver bespoke, innovative and often pioneering engineering solutions. Through this unconventional approach, we have built a long and distinguished history of pioneering technological benchmarks and delivering engineering excellence that has benefitted not only our clients but also the broader construction industry.
An Integrated Approach We provide comprehensive services across a multitude of engineering disciplines. The lack of interdisciplinary co-ordination is often a cause for project delays, cost overruns and claims. Hence, we proactively prevent this by adopting a structured design approach that incorporates building services, faรงade engineering and other key design components as inherent parts of our design philosophy. This strategy synergises the services from various disciplines and delivers superior value by providing fully coordinated and compatible solutions which enable efficiencies and savings to be achieved, performance to be enhanced and informed decisions to be made by all stakeholders. Design Phase Management We recognise our people play a key
9
role in delivering the projects. They impact the quality and commercial outcome of projects. Therefore, we carefully assemble a team of professionals, who are best suited for the size, complexity and delivery expectations, for each project. We identify the Concept and Schematic Design Stages to be the most crucial phases in controlling the project cost, design optimisation and constructability. That is why we dedicate our best people to handle these critical design phases to ensure that the most innovative, cost-effective and sustainable solutions are provided for our projects. Meinhardt maintains a Group Design Team comprising experts from each discipline. The Group Design Team does not own projects, it provides front-end engineering input, which
includes a concept, an optimised system and an operating model with key design parameters, for each project. Subsequently, these become the basis for further detailed design by the nominated team. This approach enables us to provide optimised design for each of our projects. Proprietary Technology In a world characterised by rapidly changing technologies, Meinhardt remains committed to delivering bespoke engineering solutions that provide our clients with safe, cost-effective and sustainable engineering outcomes. This is achieved through the extensive use of our self-developed state-of-the art computational design processes involving building information modelling, digital design platforms, parametric modelling, computational fluid dynamic simulations

ENGINEERING OUR COLLECTIVE FUTURE As we deliver solutions for the world today, our sights are focused on possibilities for tomorrow.
Maintaining a forward-looking approach, we are ever ready to engineer a brighter future. Six decades and counting, we strive to not only embrace the changing times, but also leverage our growing strength to develop unique and real solutions to global challenges. We stay committed to engineer our collective future. Security In the fast evolving world of today, business security remains to be of utmost importance. Determined to give our customers that extra peace of mind, Meinhardt endeavours to develop design solutions that fully integrate architecture, functionality and engineering systems to meet changing business safety needs. The result is a quality product offering that fully encompasses a business’ concept, strategy and implementation 11
stages. Coupled with our diverse expertise and global reach, we are confident of finding solutions that are tailored to suit varying project needs, as well as geographical and geopolitical risk profiles. Carbon Footprint Reducing carbon footprint remains at the core of Meinhardt’s future direction. Apart from closely monitoring carbon emissions and taking necessary steps to minimise carbon emissions, we also actively value-add to engineering projects that we undertake through conducting full life cycle assessments from embodied energy content – construction, operation, maintenance and end of life disposal. Concurrently, we adopt a proactive approach towards actualising various commercially and operationally sustainable design solutions that
minimise our carbon footprint, protecting the environments in which we work, live and play. IT/Technology Integrating smart technology and information technology into our engineering system designs, Meinhardt strives to create synergies between energy efficiency, comfort, safety and security. To achieve this, we provide design solutions that not only improve a building’s performance and sustainability, but also harness possibilities brought about by technology. This is done through integrating multiple IT backbones to manage building control, building management, energy metering, audiovisual and security systems. In summary, our building projects are designed to be
future-ready, with optimised real estate investment is optimised. Keeping abreast of technology, Meinhardt pioneers the use of artificial intelligence in air conditioning, power and lighting control systems – optimising resources by ensuring that energy is expended proportionately to the occupancy and activity levels of the building. Ultimately, energy savings of over 30% are achieved as compared to conventional solutions – in line with our goal of creating greener communities. Smart Cities Smart cities are becoming a way of the future, founded on key pillars bringing together human and social capital, mobility and communication infrastructure into a symbiotic relationship on
a common platform to fuel a sustainable economic development and high quality of living. Central to this development is the use of technology in the planning and engineering of urban landscapes, to give rise to smart cities. At the forefront of planning and understanding such smart cities, Meinhardt provides advice and solutions pertaining to the development and implementation of governance structures, as well as the incorporation of technologybased solutions in the planning and designing of smart cities. Armed with extensive industry experience of the markets that we operate in, we are able to apply our knowledge across geographical boundaries, addressing differing aspirations of our clients and communities,
future-proofing their specific requirements for a smart city. Energy Societies depend on continuous access to energy in order to function and thrive. Interruptions in energy flow can result in unwanted consequences, causing disruptions for producers and consumers alike. With the firm belief that this presents an area of potential and sustained growth, in particular – demand reduction and renewable energy production, Meinhardt has begun investing in this vital sector of energy production and distribution. This undertaking is congruent with our activities in other sectors, including industrial engineering, infrastructure and the implementation of smart cities. 12

Yale-NUS College The campus of Yale-NUS College was designed to blend the cultures and traditions of Singapore and New Haven, and to build an academic village for living and learning. Emphasising social learning among peers, the building was designed with communal areas for interaction. A few of these distinctive areas are dining commons, nested communities, signature courtyards and sky gardens. This allowed students, faculty and staff in each of the three residential colleges to experience the intimacy and character of a small school while
enjoying the resources of a large university. A highlight of this liberal arts college is the 350-seat multipurpose auditorium, designed with exceptional acoustic capabilities. Both structural and mechanical aspects were considered to achieve a high level of acoustic excellence, which involved designing in collaboration with an acoustics consultant, going with a ‘box-in-box’ structural approach and conceiving an intricate airflow system.

Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine One of Singapore’s newest medical schools, the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine has two campuses: a seven-storey campus at NTU’s Yunnan Gardens and a 20-storey building at Novena next to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Strategically, the Experimental Medicine Building is located in the university’s Yunnan Garden campus, close to NTU’s science and engineering colleges to allow for
close collaboration between students and researchers. The building is equipped with top-notch training facilities such as seminar rooms, learning studios, as well as teaching and research laboratories.
A unique aspect of this building was that no electrical heater is used. Instead, heat recovery systems were designed to pre-cool outdoor air, harvesting energy from exhaust air from air-conditioned spaces.
Concurrently, the Clinical Sciences Building at the Novena campus houses state-of-the-art learning spaces and advanced research facilities, serving as a hotbed for innovative medical education and research.
For both buildings, extensive coordination with architect partners ensured that space needs were met, while maintaining functionality and practicality.

Downtown Line, Singapore Downtown Line Stage 3 (DTL3) EXPO Station is the new underground interchange station that connects to existing East West Line (EWL) EXPO Station. Due to site constraint and track alignment, the orientation of the new station is sited perpendicularly to the existing EXPO Station. Two EWL viaduct piers located directly above the new station were reinforced to facilitate new construction. Several viaduct piers
situated within the influence zone were also strengthened before excavation proceeded. As the Civil & Structural Engineers, Meinhardt Infrastructure worked closely with LTA to identify and mitigate the impacts to existing EXPO Station. The underpinning and strengthening enhanced the foundation of the existing station, allowing for excavation and construction of the new station to be carried out in a controlled and safe environment.
As a result, the construction works could carry out without disruptions to the functionality of existing MRT services. Any inconveniences to commuters and occupants of the surrounding buildings in Changi Business Park due to traffic diversion are also kept to a minimum.

Marina Bay Financial Centre Occupying prime location at the waterfront along Marina Bay, the Financial Centre is a purpose-built development designed to be the epicentre of Singapore’s financial and banking hub. Five high-rise towers and generous underground parking constitute the six million square feet complex: two towers of 66 and 55 storeys are for residential use, while the remaining three towers, ranging from 33 to 50 storeys, are for commercial use.
Meinhardt provided integrated engineering for the mega development – working closely with the architect to ensure perfect integration of the structure, and building technical services into the architecture. Meinhardt developed highly efficient and robust structural solutions, utilising dual lateral load resisting systems coupled with hybrid pre-stressed in-situ and precast concrete floor systems to achieve exceptional building
structural performance with high constructability and cost benefits. For excavation, an innovative island construction method was devised, comprising contiguous bored secant pile walls, deep cement mixed soil and treated perimeter soil berms. The system significantly reduced the quantum and extent of strutting and allowed concurrent excavation and superstructure works.

One Raffles Quay The design and construction of One Raffles Quay is widely acknowledged as a major engineering feat due to the constraints of the site and the presence of subway lines at shallow depth running directly beneath its 50-storey North Tower. Meinhardt pioneered an innovative transfer system utilising the central box core as a transfer structure spanning across the subway tunnels. The unique transfer system along with a highly efficient outrigger braced steelconcrete composite structure and the novel skewing of the building mass over the subway tunnels – to reduce
the transfer span – led to enormous cost and time savings on the project. Today, the iconic landmark in the Singapore skyline located in the prime business district encompasses twin office towers with two basements, a multi-level podium, and an underground link to the Raffles Place Mass Rapid Transit Station. It also features Singapore’s first commercially applied District Cooling System, which not only effectively reduces urban heat, but also provides energy cost savings.
The North and South Towers, built for banking and financial corporations, add up to an estimated 1.3 million square feet of prime office space. The North Tower stands 50 storeys (245 metres) high, providing outstanding views and column-free space of approximately 18,000 square feet per floor. Standing at 29 storeys (140 metres) tall, the South Tower enjoys large regular column-free space of approximately 30,000 square feet on each floor.

Gardens By The Bay, Bay South Spreading over 101 hectares, Gardens by the Bay is made up of three waterfront gardens – Bay South, Bay East and Bay Central. The largest at 54 hectares, Bay South showcases the best of tropical horticulture and garden artistry while Bay East at 32 hectares boasts a promenade frontage that embroiders the Marina Reservoir. The connector between Bay South
and Bay East is known as Bay Central, and stands at 15 hectares with a three-kilometre waterfront promenade that allows for scenic walks stretching from the city centre to the east of Singapore. As the Civil and Structural Engineer, Meinhardt worked in collaboration with Atelier One (UK) to design
the two Conservatories (Flower Dome and Cloud Forrest) and ancillary facilities, 18 Supertrees and devised a safe methodology for their construction. The team also undertook extensive analytical studies, including the study of the foundation system, with the use of some of the latest engineering software.

Ravi River, Pakistan The multibillion Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project is a landmark project presently undertaken by Meinhardt for transforming the urban areas of Punjab province. Meinhardt team’s expert solutions are devised to break through the key challenges faced by the project, namely; the dying Ravi River’s development into a perennial freshwater body, attracting investors for high quality riverfront urban development, and meeting the scope of work defined by Pakistan’s Prime Ministerial Client and Lahore Development Authority.
Ravi riverfront urban development will be made successful with careful measures designed to maintain the river’s water flow at certain level, alleviating flooding and improving the river water quality through river training, dredging, construction of barrages, weirs and water bodies – to temporarily store excess surface water, and the introduction of wastewater treatment to prevent raw wastewater being directly discharged into the Ravi River. The execution of Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model is sought as the best solution for the project implementation and management.
