INDONESIA
Mega Kuningan
Jakarta, Indonesia
Located in the heart of Jakarta, Meinhardt’s latest project – Mega Kuningan, is a keystone project in the Kuningan area redevelopment. The mixed use development will have hospitality, residential, commercial and retail elements, offering a fully integrated and luxurious living experience. Expected to complete in 2015, Mega Kuningan comprises two towers rising from a common podium to an overall height of 212metres with the provision for five stories of basement parking. Meinhardt was appointed as the MEP engineering consultant for this prime development project. One of the project requirements was to plan and design the MEP systems for the development’s three main functions – hotel, residential and apartment in such a way that they were independent of one another. This allows for the development to be owned and operated separately upon completion. Another requirement was to design the MEP infrastructure systems such that they can cater for a broad range of applications and demands, empowering the end user with a high degree of flexibility in the use of spaces. With the development sitting on a small footprint of land, cautious effort was required in designing systems that need to be brought in or out of the building such as fresh air and dirty exhaust ventilation, piped services and electrical power cabling. In addition, the cores of the towers have to be kept small so as to maximise the available floor area. Despite the scale of the project, detailed coordination with the design team members enabled them to overcome this challenge.

New Analytical Model SODA Software Launched
True & Direct Second-Order Design And Analysis (Soda) is a revolutionary analysis and design method for steel, steel-concrete composite, reinforced concrete and other special structures including bamboo scaffolds and pre-tensioning steel trusses. Safety margin could be raised and material and costs can be reduced compared to conventional design and analysis method when applying SODA. By experience, the average cost savings in steel usage could amount to 15 to 20% of the cost of the structure which is safer as undersign of critical members is avoided.
Meinhardt Advanced Technology (MAT), the research and development arm of Meinhardt Group led by Ir Professor Reuben Chu, launched SODA as the result of collaboration between MAT and Ir Professor SL Chan from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU).
In SODA, the structure is designed by a simulation process in a truly performance-based approach. Unlike conventional design method, the P-∆ and the P- effects in SODA are in replacement of effective length (Le) so that there is no need to assume tediously and wrongly any effective length for buckling effects. The so called second order direct analysis and its design theory is already recommended in the national codes of practice for structural use of steel in Hong Kong, LRFD (North America) and Europe.  To experience the power of SODA, please contact us for enquiry at advancedtechnology@meinhardt.com.hk.

Meinhardt is providing consultancy services for the preparation of the feasibility report for this project. The main objective of this project is to widen and strengthen the existing 4-lane road to 6-lane divided carriageway configuration. The project area passes through the three districts of Odisha i.e.
Challenges: •
The alignment was to be made in such a way so that minimum structures are taken for Land Acquisition. The area of Paradeep town which is thickly populated within the proposed ROW alignment was adjusted to minimize the Land acquisition.
•
At a few structure locations, it is not possible to widen the existing structures from 4- lane to 6- lane width. Therefore, it is proposed to provide existing 4 -lane Bridge for one carriage way & new 3 -lane Bridge for other carriageway.
Jaipur, Kendrapara & Jagatsinghpur and is to be developed as partially access controlled facility with provision of service roads, intersections, underpasses/flyovers. There is about 7.20 km of road where urban settlement exist in the Paradeep town.

Acquisition of Bradlees Civil Consulting
Meinhardt Speaks at Brunei Water Seminar 2013
Meinhardt Launches Bespoke PM Web Portal for Clients
Meinhardt Australia has announced the purchase of leading Gold Coast land development consultancy Bradlees Civil Consulting. This is in line with the company’s strategic plan, which identified potential improvement and growth opportunities.
Mr Arsad Hossain, Director of Water and Environment at Meinhardt Singapore was invited to speak at the Brunei Water Seminar 2013 which was held in conjunction with the United Nations World Water Day on 26 March this year. The seminar provided a platform for key industry players, consultants and contractors to share their knowledge and expertise about effective water management and sustainability.
Meinhardt’s Programme Management team has launched Firefly II, an in-house and bespoke integrated management software platform designed to significantly improve cost and deliverability efficiencies for clients. Nick Stylianou, Project Manager, who led the development of the portal explains: “The team manages a number of complex programmes throughout Australia, including more than 900 projects across 650 sites for Shell Retail. To efficiently deliver dozens of sites simultaneously, we needed a solution which could deliver the whole programme from start to finish.
Mr Arsad Hossain spoke about the cooperation between the Government, stakeholders and consumers and how it is vital to ensure that a stable supply of water is available not only for our current demands, but also for future generations. As Singapore sees rapid growth in population and industrialization, he emphasized on the need for not just a diversified water supply but also as importantly, comprehensive water conversation measures and efficient water network management.
Through Firefly II we are able to manage and control every aspect of the programme including procurement, communications, financials, document transfer, project reporting, certification and health and safety. This web-based portal is accessible by the whole project team from within the office and out in the field. Access to real-time data from anywhere at any time translates to efficient project delivery and cost savings for clients. It allows the project managers to better audit the quality of delivery and gain detailed knowledge of the volume of work across the team, easily and quickly, to then maximise the efficiency of resource allocation.
Operating from Gold Coast since 1994, Bradlees’ experience extends to all areas of land development including engineering input to conceptual planning, feasibility studies, engineering design of residential communities, canals, lakes, commercial developments, and urban infrastructure. With benefits of enhancing client service and increased access to more people in more locations able to attend personally to projects across the state, the acquisition will provide the firm’s Land Development team a more national capability with an enhanced skill set and track record.
It has been designed with the flexibility to allow the system to be tailored to create customised solutions reflective of specific client business requirements.”
