José Cruz joins River Forest Public Library as new Children’s Librarian José has been providing exceptional library services to children throughout his 10 years of library experience. Most recently, y he was a Children’s Librarian at Oak Park Public Library, where he was well-known for his outstanding story times and commitment to diversity, equity, y and inclusion, as well as his innovative programs designed to engage young audiences

In his new role at River Forest Public Library, José will be managing various Children’s print and digital collections and implementing engaging programs for youngest audiences (from birth through 4th grade), both in the building and out in the community You will often find José at our Children’s Services desk, where he will be providing reference and readers’ advisory services.

José shared that he has loved libraries ever since he was a child and he would go with his mom, who was taking English classes at a Chicago branch

Triton College will be hosting a First Responder Expo on Wednesday, May 3, from 3-6 pm., in the Student Center Cafeteria (B Building). This event is open to the public and registration is not required There is no charge for this event. JUANCERVANTES: D J elegate President

Triton College student Juan Cervantes has always been interested in politics, so it meant a lot to him to serve as the president of the delegation for Model Illinois Government (MIG) recently in Springfield According to George Lam, an Economics instructor who oversees Triton’s MIG chapter, explained that MIG is “ an intercollegiate Illinois government simulation.” It provides Illinois students an in-depth look and experience at how the Illinois state government works

Cervantes along with Triton students Jael Rodriguez (who served as a Senate Democrat) and Grzegorz Kazimierz Libera (who served as a House Republican), participated in MIG. Besides serving as president of delegation, Cervantes oversaw a team of lobbyists throughout of the simulation.

There were over 225 other student delegates that participated in this year ’ s simulation from multiple Illinois colleges.

WRESTLINGTEAMTAKESDISTRICTTITLE Celebrating Tr iton’s team and coach

The Triton College wrestling team is still celebrating a major victory the team won the NJCAA district championship recently and head coach Tim Duggan was named Great Lakes District Coach of the Year Triton wrestlers won the Great Lakes District, beating 10 other community colleges, representing Regions 4 (Upper Illinois and Southern Wisconsin) and 12 (Michigan and Indiana). Triton had five individual champions: Anthony Schickel (125), Elon Rodriguez (133), Connor Svantner (157), Alonzo Smiley (165) and Curtis Ruff II (197). Sherman Dixon (174) finished second and David Capron (149) finished third. Billy Tucker (149) and Jeivan Ross (184) each placed fourth, and Ronald Krewer (285) earned a wild card entry to nationals The last time the Triton wrestling team won the NJCAA district championship was in 1998

Triton College will be offering Total Fitness for credit (PED 106) or noncredit (PED C37) continuing education. The class will be held in Triton’s Fitness Center in the R Building at multiple dates and times. Tuition is affordable and the class is worth one transferrable college credit hour Total Fitness teaches students the safe and effective way to use strength and cardio exercise equipment. The goal of the class is to improve body composition, physiological strength and flexibility.
