MITCH’S BITTER SWEET CENTURY
Melbourne Rebels back Mitch Inman will run onto AAMI Park on Friday night with mixed emotions.
The imposing centre said he will look back at his time at the Rebels with fond memories.
The Rebels second longest serving player is set to join an exclusive club when he makes his 100th Super Rugby appearance in his final game for the club.
“It’s gone very quickly, but I will always hold a soft spot for the Rebels and their supporters,” Inman said.
After six seasons, Inman will bid farewell to his adopted home before he jets off to begin the next chapter of his professional career with Oyonnax in the French Top 14.
“Obviously it’s been a wonderful experience for me in a great city playing with some very good players. “Not many people get to finish their term on a milestone of 100 games.”
3
After 19 appearances with the Western Force following his debut in 2010, Inman will appear in his 81st and final Rebels game since his arrival in 2012. While stats do little to describe Inman’s influence for the Rebels, a few facts say a lot about the veteran’s impact and consistency on the field. The 28-year-old will depart the Rebels as the club’s record holder for most Super Rugby starts, most minutes played and most appearances at inside centre and outside centre. Inman has seen first hand and played a significant role in the growth of the Rebels from the rustic surroundings of Princess Park, the club’s headquarters until 2016, to the world-class facilities of the Olympic Park precinct.

“Not many people get to finish their term on a milestone of 100 games.”
“They have big skillful forwards and some very good off loaders. “They will be a side to contain, we’ve obviously done our homework and we are up for the challenge on Friday night.” Along with Inman, the club will celebrate scrumhalf Ben Meehan’s service to the club after four years.
That experience will be put to test against the Jaguares for the first time in the club’s history.
Meehan will join English Premiership club London Irish after 33 appearances for the Rebels since his Super Rugby debut against the Cheetahs in 2014.
“I’ve been very impressed with the Jaguares form of late, they were impressive against the Waratahs,”
The Melbourne Rebels would like to thank Mitch and Ben for their contribution to the club.

MELBOURNE REBELS COMMUNITY DAY The Melbourne Rebels hit the streets on Wednesday, 28 June to lend a hand around the city. Preparations for the team’s Super Rugby return against the Force were put on hold as players and staff took time out of their schedule to give back to the community for their unwavering support. From pots and pans to lineouts and line breaks, the club’s players and staff were out in force across the city to serve meals to those in need, run drills with students and share their passion. The day began with breakfast burritos and yogurt parfaits at Ronald McDonald House and concluded with lunch and cupcakes with the Salvation Army on this cold winter’s day. Ronald McDonald House Parkville’s Bianca Myers, head of fundraising for the house, said “having groups come through and make breakfast for our families is a really great thing, it takes one thing that they (families) have to worry about off their plate for the day.”
Melbourne High School first XV rugby coach Charles Dudley said “today we’ve had a bunch of the Rebels come down to run the boys through a session. “It’s pretty good to have the Rebels down, the guys get to meet the players they have seen on TV, so they are pretty excited the last few weeks.” The community day follows last week’s visit to clubs and schools to provide assistance with training. Melbourne Rebels general manager of commercial Steve Mitchell said it was important for the club to engage with the wider community. “Community day is a great day, great for our player roster, great for our staff,” Mitchell said.
“It’s great for families to have a nutritious meal for the day because it means they are fuelled up for what lies ahead of them.
“The player roster and staff probably get more out of the day than they put in to be honest because you get these great experiences.
“A good start to the day is a really great thing to have at the house.” Along with meals, players delivered a school rugby clinic at Melbourne High School, presented to the Leukaemia Foundation about the benefits of physical and mental wellbeing and visited the Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre.
“The community’s important for our club and it’s important that we invest in it.”
