Loft Design “A Peaceful Enclosure”
My concept for the loft is “peaceful enclosure” and is derived from the location and my love of seclusion and peaceful living. I chose to reside in the city of York in England because of its history and charm with its enclosed narrow streets and open country just a few minutes away. The town is a combination of old Roman and English architecture and the busy metropolitan life. I’m really intrigued by the old world combined with living in the current one. Growing up I lived in Eastern Europe and the cobbled streets were my

For the kitchen design I wanted to create a space that had the American sensibility of an openess but still be its own entity coming straight from the closed corridor entrance.

Bedroom In the Details: Details of the location of this site was shown through the layout of a closed floor plan and the heating system that utilizes the hot radiators that are placed throughout.
Sleeping & Vanity Small and secluded in the rear of the flat at the end of the hallway, this space was designed for only the purpose that I use my room for, which is sleep and getting ready. The function of the space is to create a peaceful refuge utilizing the principles of harmony with the elements of color in the materials and space.

GARDEN VIEW HOSTEL
Concept Blending the lush natural beauty of Sarasota with the laid back and friendly community that blossoms when staying at a hostel, the concept for the Sarasota Hostel is Garden Hideaway. This concept was inspired by the early settlers who came to Sarasota Florida and called it paradise with all of it’s natural beauty. My hope is to inspire guests to come and experience Sarasota by staying at Garden View Hostel and hideaway in the cool green shades of the lobby, the rays of light at the Conservatory cafe and a reclusive warm bed at the end of an exciting day.
It will embody the principles of rhythm through its orgnaic patterns and design, harmony with a unified color scheme and lighting and through proportion emphasized between the organic forms and space.

Front Elevation Lobby The design for the front lobby resembles that of a semi outdoor atrium. To create this dramatic and airy entrance I incorporated a recessed ceiling in the center with light panels to resemle sunlight filtering into the atrium. Live trees are also part of the experience, bringing the florida nature into the space through color and form.

CONCEPT Natural Femininity Inspired by the belief that a woman’s most noticeable beauty comes from within. The Sephora brand inspired this retail by embracing ecological and organic cosmology that focuses on the Natural Femininity. This pop up retail will express Sephora’s iconic beauty brand, innovative design, and immersive and interactive technology with the everyday woman Principles of design that will be utilized are rhythm, emphasis, and balance with the elements of organic form, emphasis with light and color balance of black and white and vibrant reds.
Pop Up Retail PAVE Competition This project was submitted for the 2011 PAVE Retail Competition under Store Design. The main challenges involved in this project: • creating a cohesive new store design that was still apparent of Sephora’s signiture brand • designing a store that had the ability to manufacture itself into any setting for the sake of a temporary store setup • utilizing previous observational research studies and designing for both client and user

Concept Statement: The concept for the corporate office of Evernote is Organized Chaos. This idea was inspired by the company’s vision of creating a program to serve as a second brain, keeping thoughts and ideas stored. The environment for the employees of Evernote will be designed to successfully maintain a balance of the left and the right brained individuals. Direction of lines and shapes will bring you through the atmoshere of Evernote. Unity and rhythm will be shown through the use of colors and textures.

Floor Plan Design: With the driving concept of Organized chaos the Evernote Corporate Office space was developed as separate functions of the brain that were conncected by a common thread. The areas were grouped as the client requested by departments. As you enter the lobby you have the Business Team that houses the managerical aspects of the company distinguishing those areas in blue seating. The next area included the Design Team in more energetic colors of orange and purple. In a separate area you have the Engineering Team in green. All areas are conncected with communal spaces that make this a fun place to work, play and meet. In the center is a kitchen/cafe area with a lounge area called the Game Stop with fun colorful seating and a place for video games. Adjacent is a quiet coffee space good for meetings and research.

IRIDESCENT PATHWAYS PROCESS SKETCHES AND IDEAS
INSPIRATION In the process of designing my light fixture it evolved from a complicated design into a more simplistic form. I played around with different shapes to see how I could manipulate the path of light and keep the versatility for both the ticket agent and the traveler as well.
CONCEPT STATEMENT The concept of my light design was inspired by the experience of traveling. In airports the atmosphere is that of anticipation and stress. Most people are not aware of their environment and just want to reach their destination with as little problems as possible. This light fixture will bring iridescent light that is soft and warm and inviting but still provide adequate work light. Since the ticket counter is one of the first steps to the journey, I wanted it to be a place that was inviting and that would infuse the traveler as well as the agent a sense of calm. The concept for this became Iridescent Pathways because I wanted to utilize not only the idea of lighting up the travelers path and journey but also to manipulate the pathways of light to serve the function and design.

17
Experience As the guest approaches the counter they are greeted by the warm and glowing light from the fixture and it’s iridescent and translucent panels. The pathway of light illuminates both sides of the counter and gives off ambient light as well. Versatility is key in the design and can be switched on and off manually by the agent to indicate whether or not the counter is open. Another option given is the ability to rotate the fixtrue to give more task lighting to the agent or more light to the guest. The exchange between both parties are basked in both an aesthetically pleasing and fully functional light piece that can bring light to the users future pathways.

TECHNOLOGY
OLED Light panels
Philips Ledalite Photosensor
Energy efficient technology utilized in the design of the light fixture include OLED light panels and photosensors that detect natural light in the area and dim lights accoringly in order to save energy. A manual control switch is located on the side of the base giving the ticket agent the ability to switch it off when the ticket counter is closed.
MATERIALS AND DETAIL Iridescent pathways are exemplified in the soft multi colored glow of the resin panels that reflect light and emit a subtle glow.
DETAILS The lighitng fixture will incorporate simple linear design and subtle curved edges. Following the shape of this fixture the negative space gives a reprieve of the linear piece. It can rotate at the axis located on the right base corner. There are different angles shjown in the above perspective with the option of having the “task lighting facing the ticket agent or facing the guest.
This is juxtaposed by the cool metallic sheen of the recycle led aluminum base and the transparent 3 Form panels that serve as task lighting. The center void will illuminate ambient light to the surrounding area, creating an inviting

The concept for the Children’s Medical Center in Ashville, North Carolina is “Storytelling” with heavy influence and inspiration from North Carolina’s natural beauty and the whimsical aesthetic of Art Nouveau. It is our goal to tell the story of North Carolina through storytelling in a way that invokes inspiration and imagination that can only come from nature.

STACKING DIAGRAM
The three main components of North Carolina being portrayed are mountain, forest, and beach, encompassing the wide variety of terrain that the state has to offer. And by adding a touch of whimsy, Art Nouveau captures the wonderful and mysterious aspect of nature that will be brought into this space through curved lines and asymmetry throughout the space.
4TH FLOOR SMOKEY MOUNTAIN
New state of the art technology will be used to provide flexible lighting solutions and affects. Also incorporated into each room, architectural projections will be illuminated onto the walls that will include interactive systems where children can control their room theme, play games, watch movies, order food and contact the nurse through this central interactive experience.
3RD FLOOR
CHEROKEE FOREST
The principles of design that will be incorporated include form, shape, and emphasis. These will be manifested in the detailing and treatment. The elements of design that will be used will include color, texture, and light that will be represented in our materials and architectural elements and lighting design.
2ND FLOOR OUTER BANKS
Each floor is designated by a different natural landscape feature and color. This creates a system of wayfinding that is not only cohesive throughout each floor but makes it easier for GROUND FLOOR SUNRISE VALLEY children to identify which floor they are on in case they get lost. By reiterating the colors into the floor pattern and the roomtags children can easilt identify where they are. The plan is set up so that you enter into the themed lobby and experience the play areas, the patient room are in a more secluded area with views onto nature as well as 3 outdoor patios.

Main Challenges: - Building the ENTIRE facility for digital walk through purposes in sketch up. Pros: Great visual/ experience Cons: Time consuming Solution: Teamwork/Communication With the implementation of digital screen projections, patients can control their environment like never before. Colors can be changed and scenery and wall paterns as well. For this reason we left the walls neutral with wood and soft natural tones that are aesthetically pleasing and serve as a good backdrop. Evidence Based Design: A large part of this project was about implementing evidence based principles and observations into healing spaces.

Classrooms As part of my research I wanted to implement resaerch and education into this healthcare facility to not only inform and educate new employees but also for constant learning within the staff for new treatment. In addition, I also wanted to design a place where patients can learn about how to maintain their health and for loved ones to be part of the at home care. Therefore this space is meant to be for multiple users and to be accomadate different uses. I designed two separate learning areas, a flexible classroom set up and a presentation-like space that can be divided with movable partitions and opened for larger events.
