Indoor Track and Fitness Rooms

Indoor Track: The center has a 1/10 mile indoor track that is open year-round during regular community center hours. Daily admission fee or pass required.

Dog Manners and Obedience - Dog trainer Kim Downing will teach you and your four-legged friend the basic commands. Geared for dogs ages 4 months or older. Must be current on vaccinations. This is a 7 week program. The first week is without your dog. For more information visit www.yourbestdog.com. Class min 4, max 7. Class is held on Wednesday evenings. Cost is $90.

• Level 1: A foundation level class includes many behaviors like beginning walking on leash, sit, down, come, focused attention, place and stay.

• Level 2: (Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level 1 class) This class continues from Level 1 working on refining skills and advancing to more difficult skills like, leave it, wait, back, stand, directional come, and mannered greetings. Includes AKC Canine Good Citizen test.

Basic Ballroom Dance - Learn to Merengue, waltz, country two step, Arizona two step, salsa, and chacha dance steps and turns that you can do to almost any type of music. For dates and class information, contact Tom Ritchie at urdancrmn@gmail.com, or call Nancy Baker at 758-6629. Class is held on Tuesday evenings. Cost is $60 per couple. Because of the pandemic, the class is currently for couples only.

Midwest Autoharp Academy - Intermediate and Advanced Autoharp workshops are offered at the Riverfront Community Center by instructors Charles Whitmer and Tom Schroeder. Classes run from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., daily. Workshops are generally offered in April and October. Online registration and payment is available (convenience fees apply). Check our website for more details and class availability or email Nancy Baker at nbaker@firstcity.org. Cost is $200 per workshop, or $50 per day.

PiYo Live - Join certified instructor Rachel Smith as she combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility of flowing yoga movements. Use your body weight to perform a series of continuous, targeted moves to define every single muscle – big and small. This class is suitable for all fitness levels. Bring your own mat and plenty of water for this fun class. For teens and adults. Class is held Wednesday evenings at 5:45 p.m. and Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. Cost is $5 per class or $50 for a 12-punch pass.

Yoga - Instructor Carol Turner will teach students to release stress and fatigue, increase strength, balance and flexibility and restore energy. Class is held Tuesday and Thursday mornings starting at 9 a.m. Cost is $5 per class.

Women’s Fitness Kickboxing - Fitness Kickboxing with Chantel Coates offers a high energy workout that keeps you moving from start to finish. This class has combined the best aspects of striking and selfdefense with high energy cardiovascular workouts. No prior experience is required. Quickly build lean muscle, speed, power and agility, sustainable fat burn and total body tuning. Class is held Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:15 p.m. Cost is $50 per month or $5 per class.

Tae Kwon Do - This popular martial art combines combat techniques, self-defense, sport and exercise. Masks are required during class. Contact Master Frank Hannon at 913-682-3677 for information. Class is held Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 5:45 p.m. for ages 10 -14 and 6:45 p.m. for adults. Cost is $55 per month for the first family member and $35 per month for each additional family member.

Women and Girls Self Defense – FREE - Learn how to protect yourself with martial arts instructor Master Frank Hannon. This free program is offered quarterly. Pre-registration is required. Minimum age is 8.

Water Walking - Join Lori Mathews as you discover the benefits of water walking. The water provides resistance, making your muscles work harder to move forward. At the same time, it provides buoyancy, helping reduce strain to your joints. Changing your water walking routine keeps it interesting while allowing you to work different muscles as part of the exercise. Class is offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 10 a.m. Cost is $4 per class or $40 for a 10-punch pass. **Because of the pandemic, aqua-fitness classes are currently limited to no more than 28 participants to allow for physical distancing in the shallow end of the pool. All equipment is disinfected after each class and put away.**

American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Group Lessons - Certified instructors will teach children, teens and adults in a supportive environment in which to learn and obtain skills. Because of the pandemic, classes will be taught with proper social distancing in place. Each child from Parent/Child level up through Level 3 will require an adult “helper” in the water with them. Instructors will teach from the deck. Students must be registered for Tuesday-Thursday sessions by noon the Friday before the session is scheduled to begin, and by noon on Wednesdays for the Saturday sessions. Cost is $40 per child for residents or $45 per child for non-residents. Families with 3 or more children will pay half-price for the third and subsequent children in the same household. Currently, there is a maximum of 3 children per class. Riverfront Community Center Lap Swim Schedule – Available online at https://www.leavenworthks.org/ parksrec/page/riverfront-community-center-pool-lapswim or by calling 913-651-2132. Lap Swim Rules - No one under the age of 14 admitted into the pool during Lap Swim unless authorized by the Aquatic Supervisor. Lap swimmers must be able to swim the length of the pool, unassisted, using the front crawl. Currently, because of the pandemic, only one swimmer per lane. Available on a first-come, first-served basis.
