WITH MUNI IN A DEFICIT AND UNRELIABILITY AT ITS WORST, WE BRING THESE SUGGESTIONS TO CREATE A SYSTEM TO INCREASE MUNI’S CUSTOMER SATISFACTION.

TICKET MACHINES problems Tickets are not always being checked correctly by bus drivers which leads to people who are trying to take advantage of the system. Right now, information is not communicated well to muni riders. We plan to install new interactive handles and informational touch screens to bus shelters. Riders will now be able to find routes, bus time, nearby attractions, weather, and news.

solutions Buy tickets before entering: The MUNI drivers will be able to be more accountable as to everyone has a ticket rather than worrying about transacting money. The load time will be quicker without people fumbling for money in the front of the bus. iPhone App: Quickly buy tickets for each trip.

INTERIOR SPACE The interior of the buses are not inviting with their drab colors and dirtiness. We plan to create a more inviting environment by including bright colors. This could be sponsored by Art Span, a nonprofit organization, that builds community by connecting the public to visual arts in SF. We plan to work with local artists to paint the insides of the buses and stations. Call to action to involve MUNI Riders: Instagram and Twitter Contests. Did you know your surroundings

REDESIGN CURRENT MUNI MAP STATISTICS • Bus routes have not been changed in over 25 years • 75% of passengers ride on just 6 of the 82 rail lines

SOLUTIONS • We have decreased the lines of MUNI based on ridership of each line. • We plan to decrease lines in 6 stages. A few will be cut each year. • The routes that are not taken away will have more buses and can come more frequently. • Since there will be more open shifts, we would like to have some buses with two drivers. • One can double check on tickets and be there for security reasons.

o mniride / 08

Proposed Lines: F, J, K/T, L, M, N, 1, 5, 9, 14, 22, 29, 30, 38, 43, 44, 49, 71 Proposed Elimination of Lines: 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 10, 12, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, 31, 33, 36, 37, 39, 42, 45, 47, 48, 52, 53, 54, 56, 66, 67, 76, 80, 81, 82, 88, 89 Elimination of Stops: • Limit to every 5 blocks, modeling the 38L line. • There are currently 4,000 bus stops. • With the elimination of lines and certain stops, there will be less maintenance and employees needed to drive.

• The handles will hold information for MUNI riders. • They have browse the news, find events and attractions, find a route, and look up the status of your bus and others. • The bottom will have a marquee that will tell the rider which stop they will be arriving at next so that they know where they are at all times. • The handles also feature adjustable shapes so that all people can ride the bus safely. • The are sponsored by Yelp and Google as well as the advertisement company of the shelter.
