Tips for Field Trip Success! 1.
Choose hands-on locations. Memorable field trips let students touch, feel and try something new.
2. Visit the destination before scheduling your trip. By prescreening the site, you can feel out the location and make a detailed plan.
3. Prepare students and parents. Explain the field trip to your students and set clear expectations. Let parents know in advance the reason for the trip and if transportation or chaperones are needed.
4. Keep students busy. Constant motion helps keep students occupied and to experience all the location has to offer.
5. Make the most of travel time, too. While you drive, have students make a
journal entry about their trip or use the time to talk about the experience.

while you’re waiting Give these games a try with your students as you wait for the bus, eat lunch together or in between sessions.
Twenty-One Starting with #1, go around the circle counting up to 21. Each person can say 1, 2, or 3 numbers in a row. For example: Person A: 1, 2, 3 Person B: 4 Person C: 5, 6, 7 Person A: 8, 9 If you’re the player who has to say 21, you’re out. Play again and again until one person is left - the winner!
Penny Gymnastics Challenge yourselves to drop a penny on your shoe without it falling off.
Listen Closely Choose a word or phrase for everyone to listen closely for. The first person to hear it wins!
I Spy
20 QUESTIONS Pick a person, place, or thing. Start the game by saying, “I am thinking of a person (or place, or thing.)” Players can ask 20 yes/no questions to deduce what you chose.
12
GRKIDS Field Trip Guide 2019 | Vol 3
Take turns to guess what the other person sees. Start the game by saying, “I spy with my little eye, something that is (insert color here).”
Tote Tale
Craft a story together about three items from your purse.
CATEGORIES One player names a category and other players list an item that fits that category. Make it extra challenging by requiring the answers to start with the same letter as the category. (For example, Baking category answers could be Bread, Butter, Buns.) The first person to repeat an item or not have an answer gets a point. Lowest number of points wins the game.
Two Truths and a Lie One person makes three statements about his or her self, but only two of them are true. Go around and have everyone guess which statement is the lie. Kingman Museum
