welcome to melton theatre welcome to melton theatre

We’re proud to have been such a large part of the community in Melton Mowbray for 40 years now and we hope that this anniversary season has something for all of you to enjoy. Our first season of shows at the Theatre featured Polly James, Terrence Hardiman, Prunella Scales, Peter Jeffrey, Timothy West and many more famous names followed in their footsteps on our stage. We’ve played host to some of the biggest names in comedy, music and variety over the years including Ken Dodd, Keith Floyd, Sarah Millican, Lee Evans, Pam Ayres, Craig Charles, Barry Cryer, Chas and Dave, Colin Fry, The Manfreds, John Challis, Kevin Bridges, Les McKeown, Monty Don… it’s quite a list. At the core of our continued success are our loyal front of house volunteer teams. Some of whom have been with us for our full 40 years of presenting the best in community, college and touring theatre productions. We’ve had a remarkable few months at the Theatre, topped off by being crowned After Dark Award Winners at this year’s Melton Times Business Awards! Of course, we also couldn’t do it without the help of you our audience and we can’t wait to welcome you to one of our incredible shows in the coming months.

Ned boulting’s Bikeology

Dates: Thursday 17th November 2016 Time: 7:30pm Ticket price: £21.00 All Tickets*

Journalist, television presenter and best-selling author Ned Boulting presents for the first time an honest, self-effacing walk through the world of Bikeology. What drives the cyclist (apart from a sturdy, well-oiled chain) to such ecstasies of endurance? What curious, deep-rooted passions are aroused by the sight of a simple pair of padded shorts? And what on earth is a derailleur? From the humble commuter to the winner of the Tour de France, Boulting takes an off-centre look at what it means to ride a bike, drawing on his own underwhelming adventures in the saddle to his fourteen summers spent hurtling around France in pursuit of the sport’s biggest name including no less than Cavendish, Wiggins, Froome and of course Armstrong. *Ned Boulting has never tested positive for performance enhancing substances.

I was born with a long face and now there’s UKIP and Putin and being single and Islamic State and George Osborne and Paul Dacre of the Daily bastard Mail and tax dodging corporations and the bloody election and did I mention being single? One of Britain’s finest comedians and broadcasters, Marcus’s talent was noted early on in his career in 1996 when he won the BBC New Comedian Award at the Edinburgh Festival. He is now regarded as a major comedy, writing and acting talent, performing stand up nationally to sell out audiences around the UK and globally at international comedy festivals. “Dazzling, inspired, perfectly observed. I’ve yet to see anything funnier” - Daily Telegraph

Mark Steel

Dates: Wednesday 23rd November 2016 Time: 8:00pm Ticket price: £17.00 All Tickets*

The Herald ‘The most well-crafted and poignant comedy turns at this year’s Fringe’ The Mirror ‘Interesting, engaging and funny’ It never really bothered me that I’d never met my mum. It never occurred to me I needed to meet her to ‘find out who I was’, as it didn’t seem likely I’d discover I was someone different to who I thought I was. Could it turn out I was three stone lighter than I thought, or I spoke Italian or supported Arsenal or had a fear of Liquorice Allsorts? But after the birth of my own son, I realised it’s quite an event to have a child, and she may well remember giving birth to me, and maybe even the adoption. Volunteers wanted Melton Theatre is an unfunded organisation that is in the very fortunate position of having several enthusiastic teams of volunteer Front of House staff with experience of over 35 years in theatre. Our volunteer teams serve us in the most vital of roles in the theatre, greeting our patrons and ensuring they are pleased with their visit to Melton Theatre. We are currently looking to recruit new members to our team of volunteers. Regular duties for our volunteers include directing you to your seats, answering any questions you may have about the show, monitoring the audience during a show, selling ice creams during the interval, and ensuring the safety of our patrons in the event of an emergency. Of course, you also get the added benefit of being able to see some great shows from our programme of events! This is a great way of gaining experience in a theatre environment and a full reference will be provided for any future employment. It also provides a valuable opportunity to interact with your local community and our audience.
