MEMBERSHIP AUDIT REMINDER To ensure that our membership records are accurate, we are conducting a Membership Audit and we kindly request your assistance in this important endeavor. As policies and membership categories may evolve over time, it is vital to carry out this Membership Audit to ensure that all our members are correctly categorized and are receiving the benefits and privileges associated with their respective membership types. Before we run our reports, we would like to draw your attention to a couple of specific Bylaws that frequently lead to errors in member categorization. Prior to November 6, we respectfully request all members spare a few moments to review their membership details on the BCC website and to reach out to our Membership Team at membership@bcc1898.com should you encounter any inconsistencies or have any inquiries. HIGHLIGHTED BYLAWS Section 7. Non-resident Membership (i.e. recent moves, graduations, etc.) "A Resident member who has adopted a legal address that lies outside of fifty (50) miles distance from either Clubhouse based on the average of the distances of the nearest available road systems and does not own or rent personally through an agent or another, a residence within that fifty (50) miles average distance of the nearest available road systems may transfer to Non-resident status in the manner provided for in this
Article, provided that the member notifies the Board in writing of his or her intention to be a Non-resident for a period of at least one year from the date of such notice."
Section 1. New Proposals (i.e. spouses) "In the case of a single person admitted as a member who thereafter marries, such member’s spouse must apply for membership in the Club within two years of the marriage. Provided, however, that if the member is younger than 28 years of age at the time of marriage, such new spouse’s membership proposal may be deferred for three years following the member’s 28th birthday. A failure to do so subjects the member to expulsion pursuant to Article VI, Section 1 of the Constitution."
In addition to these Bylaws, we also wish to remind you to notify our Membership Department if you have recently welcomed a new addition to your family. You can always check your dependents on your account to make sure you have everyone listed. We know that life can get busy and changes in your membership are inevitable. We hope to make our records as accurate as possible and truly appreciate all of your help in this matter. If you have reviewed your membership information and do not have any changes, you do not need to contact the Club. Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to providing you with an exceptional experience in the near future. 1
STAFF HOLIDAY FUND
CELEBRATING GREAT PEOPLE Dear Fellow Member, As we approach the holiday season, the Board of Governors is excited to extend an invitation for your generous contributions to the annual Staff Holiday Fund. This initiative has become a cherished tradition at Baltimore Country Club, and your support plays a crucial role in spreading joy and appreciation during this special time of year. While the amenities we offer help create unique experiences, we live our Simple Truth (Great People Make Favorite Places) because the staff at BCC is driven and committed to excellence. They work tirelessly to ensure that each visit is extraordinary and memorable. Our member visits have increased dramatically since we settled into our amazingly transformed clubhouse. The team has responded to our increased usage and continues to make BCC our favorite place. Last year, 839 families—accounting for 64% of member households—recognized the staff for their dedication to BCC. Our goal is to have all members participate at some level to truly demonstrate our gratitude. We would like to exceed last year’s participation and show our gratitude with a contribution of any amount. Of the households that contributed last year, 17% gave $100 or less, 36% gave $100 to $200, and 47% contributed more than $200. The average donation was $279, and the highest was $2,300. I ask you to help ensure each staff member receives a generous holiday gift by contributing. Member contributions are allocated with consideration to each staff member’s level of

responsibility and employment tenure. Every staff member shares in the fund except for the General Manager/COO. For many of our staff, your generous gift represents a meaningful part of their holiday joy. You can submit your contribution through the BCC website or by returning the card you receive in the mail. The deadline for contributions is December 15, which will allow us to present funds to the team in time to prepare for the holidays. The Board of Governors thanks you for contributing to the Staff Holiday Fund and appreciates your continued support. I look forward to seeing you at our Roland Park and Five Farms clubhouses and wish you and your loved ones a warm and joyous holiday season. Sincerely,
Thomas E. Carroll President, Baltimore Country Club Board of Governors

À LA CARTE DINING
The Art Of
MENU
D E V E LO P M E N T W
hether you enjoy racquet sports, golf, staying fit, or simply making memorable moments with loved ones, there’s one thing we all have in common: our love of food. Food has a way of bringing people together, fostering social connections, and creating memorable experiences, and we would want nothing more than for our members to allow us to create those special moments for you while dining at the Club. The understated elegance of BCC’s À la Carte service offers exceptional culinary experiences in a warm and welcoming family-friendly atmosphere. And, at the core of our À la Carte service is the menu. From fresh ingredients to the synergy between our Culinary, Food & Beverage, and Horticulture Teams, get a glimpse of how our À la Carte menus come to life with the membership in mind. On average, a restaurant changes its menu three to four times annually. A quarterly update to the menu might appear substantial to the typical restaurant patron. However, for those who frequent the same restaurant, the menu could lose its novelty. Country clubs are unique because we don’t have customers—we have valued members with whom we have built lasting relationships. At BCC, the average membership tenure is 18.5 years, and some members dine with us multiple times a week. To continually deliver a fresh dining experience, our Culinary Team changes the À la Carte menus every five to six weeks to incorporate seasonal flavors and innovative dishes while continuing to offer member favorites like Maryland Crab Cakes and our Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich. BCC is fortunate to have a talented and dedicated team of Culinary Managers with

a collective 136 years of experience, led by Executive Chef Richard Jallet, who has been with the Club for nine years. In addition to Club events, weddings, corporate events, and a host of other life celebrations, the Culinary Team has the task of consistently churning out high-quality menu items from 11:00am to 9:00pm from Tuesday through Sunday. Beginning November 1, the team will also be running À la Carte operations at both clubhouses simultaneously, as dinner service will also be available at Roland Park, Wednesday through Sunday throughout the fall and winter.
At BCC, the average membership tenure is 18.5 years, and some members dine with us multiple times a week. Restaurant Chef Shaun Skeen and Assistant Restaurant Chef Daniel Nosek have menu development down to a science, and it is certainly a team effort. The process starts with line staff and managers brainstorming ideas. These ideas are then tested as specials to gauge member feedback. This approach ensures that each dish meets the Club’s high culinary standards. Member feedback is the compass guiding the culinary journey at BCC. Every comment and suggestion is considered as well as dietary allergies and preferences. For example, you may have noticed new vegan options like the Beyond Burger and Vegan “Crab” Cake. BCC's menu strikes a perfect balance between beloved classics and exciting new creations, reflecting the Club's dedication to serving its members.
À LA CARTE DINING
Once a dish is approved, recipes are crafted for cost analysis and consistency. A comprehensive cost book is prepared to keep everything in check. Then, Chef Shaun and Chef Dan provide clear and concise descriptions of each menu item along with the specific dietary notations. A seamless transition to a new À la Carte menu requires meticulous planning and effective communication between the Culinary, Food & Beverage, and Communications teams. Detailed menu descriptions and daily verbal quizzes ensure that staff is well-prepared to introduce the new offerings to members.
Our Culinary Team prides itself on producing a wide variety of ingredients in-house. From bacon and pastrami to crafted sauces, pizza dough, and even pickles, we ensure members enjoy the freshest and most distinctive flavors
that are unique to BCC. What's also remarkable is BCC's production garden. Since 2008, the Club's Farm to Table program and has seen steady growth, with the Culinary and Grounds teams collaborating to ensure the delivery of high-quality ingredients. These teams work closely, continuously sharing feedback and discussions throughout the growing season. This ensures that the garden's offerings are not only delicious but also unique, embodying the essence of hyper-local freshness and flavor.
This year, the Club has harvested 1,920 pounds of produce, not including our apple and peach harvest. Our production garden is a treasure trove of surprises. Beyond traditional crops, we cultivate elongated sweet peppers and even Red Chinese Noodle Beans, which, while more decorative than culinary, add an interesting touch to the garden and are great for stir-frying. This year, the Club has harvested 1,920 pounds of produce, not including our apple and peach harvest! In addition to the production garden, the Five Farms campus also boasts 49 apple trees, seven peach trees, and one Montmorency Cherry tree. Moreover, the Club produces its own maple syrup and
honey in-house, thanks to the maple trees and bees on the property. Access to fresh ingredients allows our Culinary Team to lean into seasonal flavors. Now that we are in autumn, the Club's apple trees contribute to various menu items, including apple butter to accompany bread service. Our bartenders also take advantage of BCC-grown produce and herbs when crafting seasonal cocktails. These cocktails, like the À la Carte menu, change with the seasons, offering members fresh and exciting choices. Feedback from staff helps refine the cocktails, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality and flavor. The culinary world at Baltimore Country Club is an amalgamation of tradition, innovation, and collaboration. It's where fresh ingredients, creativity, and member preferences harmonize to create an extraordinary dining experience. Whether you're savoring a menu staple or embarking on a new culinary adventure, at BCC, you’re in good hands. See you in À la Carte!

MIKE HORN

I started training with Mike Horn this summer to build upon my existing workouts. Mike is instrumental in helping me reach my goals to be a better athlete by working on my strength, stability, flexibility, and explosiveness. He has a wide variety of exercises, focuses on form, and helps achieve new limits. I appreciate what Mike has done for me, my golf game, and my health. —Alex Senatore

Rebecca has studied yoga all over the world and she brings her expertise to the class she teaches each Monday evening at BCC. She is a knowledgeable Yogi with a unique style of encouraging her students to move mindfully and to be aware of their bodies. For the past four years my husband Tommy and I have benefited from taking Rebecca’s yoga class. For us, this end of the day practice has made a huge positive difference in our flexibility, strength, and sense of well-being. Often at the beginning of a class Rebecca, will use a detailed anatomy text to explain which muscles we will focus on during our practice for the next hour. Then, Rebecca will use core integration to strengthen and lengthen that particular group of muscles. She is patient and explains every movement very well. Rebecca is passionate about sharing her yoga practice and inspires us to move mindfully. Whether your sport is golf, tennis, or other activities, I believe you can benefit from Rebecca’s yoga guidance. —Audrey Thomas

LAINEY BAER
Personal Coach & Group Exercise Instructor jscott@bcc1898.com
Private Yoga Instructor & Thai Yoga Bodywork Practitioner lbaer@bcc1898.com
Five Farms & Roland Park | Monday-Friday
By Appointment Only
I began training with Jenna over two years ago. At the time, I had a three-year-old and a one-year-old, and I was ready to get my body back. Even after our first session, I was immediately comfortable with Jenna. She was and still is patient, fun, and respectful.
My Thai Yoga Bodywork experience with Lainey Baer was enlightening and rejuvenating. In the 45-minute session I had with her, we were able to address immobility issues that I have, lengthen muscle groups I am incapable of stretching on my own, and gain a better understanding of my body’s imbalances. I walk away from the session immediately feeling more relaxed and freer. I would highly recommend Lainey’s services to anyone looking to move and perform better at their daily activities and sporting ventures. I know I will be a regular benefiting from Lainey’s knowledge and experience.
At the start of each session, she has a different workout plan figured out, so it never gets boring or tedious. I have seen such great results that I am planning on increasing my sessions from two to three times a week. I keep getting more and more motivated thanks to her. Jenna is an amazing trainer and friend, and I can’t say enough good things about her!
—Gavin Leon, Director of Racquets
—Courtney Somerville Jenna is a very motivating and compassionate personal trainer. She is knowledgeable about the effective exercises and proper form to train safely during pregnancy and postpartum. She has helped me strengthen my body after having two children and reach personal fitness goals over the last two years of training together. She is a fantastic trainer who cares about her clients and her passion for health and fitness is contagious. —Ashley Avirett I’ve worked with Jenna since the fall of 2020 and am very happy with the results. Jenna has always been encouraging and pushes you just enough to leave with a sense of accomplishment. She doesn’t overwhelm you with weights, and focuses on the repetition of lighter weights—which I prefer. She only adds weights that she knows you can handle. Jenna really watches your every move to make sure you are doing things correctly. I’ve already recommended Jenna to several other members. I go to Jenna on Monday evenings and it’s a great way to kick off the week. Jenna is the best! —Nancy Hinds
I am an active person, but I had been dealing with some chronic stiffness and tightness that was bothering me. Looking for relief, I began weekly yoga sessions with Lainey which have really helped me gain more flexibility which has alleviated the pain and stiffness. I leave our sessions feeling more relaxed and centered. In addition to working through poses that have made me more flexible and stronger, we focus on proper breathing which allows me to work deeper into the poses and then outside of our sessions makes me be more mindful of my breathing in my everyday life. The increased flexibility has been a huge bonus to my golf game. I am striking the ball with more power and achieving more distance. I am convinced this has helped me to lower my scores this season. Paying attention to my breathing has been a bonus to my game as well. It keeps me focused and relieves tension when addressing the ball. Our sessions are one-on-one which allow us to customize as needed, which is perfect for me. I can let Lainey know a specific area of need and she will tailor our session to accommodate that. I highly recommend Lainey. She is knowledgeable, kind, and has really helped me feel better. —Lee Roebuck

GROUNDS
GREENKEEPER’S UPDATE I wanted to follow up and thank everyone for your patience while we completed additional drainage work in front of both ends of the Range tees this past August. The work took approximately three weeks and turned out beautifully. However, additional drainage work still needs to be addressed in the middle of the field. As cold weather arrives, perennial ryegrass was seeded on the Range tees for improved playability. However, once the grass stops growing and recovery from divots becomes non-existent, all play will be from the all-weather mats on both ends of the Range. The Range field will become dormant or brown, and the zoysia targets will be painted green with a pigment that is safe on the grass and provide excellent definition throughout the winter months.
• East Course Closed: November 7 through November 10 for deep tine and core aeration, Dryject sand injection, and Graden dethatching • West Course fairways are to be verticutt starting the week of November 27 to remove thatch. Once completed, the East Course will close for the season and core aerated As we prepare for the 2024 season, one of the final practices we will be completing on portions of the West Course greens (during the week of November 27) is Drill and Fill Aeration. This process drills holes up to 12 inches deep into the putting green on six-inch centers, removing soil and backfilling each hole with sand to create deep sand columns in the root zone. This is a proven method for modifying the root zone without total rebuilding to improve turf quality and greatly improve internal drainage on the portions of greens that remain soft and wet following rain events.

As a reminder, we can experience frost during the fall when the nighttime and morning temperatures (coldest part of the day) will drop to a point where water freezes inside the plant and forms into very sharp ice crystals. Pressure from foot, vehicular, and animals on rigid frozen turf ruptures the cells within the plant, and this causes injury or even death of the plant. Delays in morning start times may be necessary due to this weather event. At the end of October, we began aerating the playing surfaces on the West Course, along with the East Course, in early November in preparation for next season. The most important reason for aeration is the removal and reduction of thatch and organic matter. Thatch accumulation naturally occurs on creeping bentgrass surfaces and can accumulate rather rapidly. Thatch is defined as a tightly intermingled layer of dead and living stems, leaves, and roots that accumulate between the green vegetation and soil surface. Reducing thatch, increasing soil oxygen levels, and improving water penetration are important factors needed to help promote a stronger, healthier plant and reduce the risk of disease and poor playing surfaces.
One way to ensure the courses are in the best possible condition is by replacing your divot following your shot from the fairway or tee. This will ensure the quickest recovery versus filling the divot with the seed/soil mix in the carts, which will take weeks to months to recover now that temperatures are much colder. With the following divot, think of it as a piece of sod taken recently from the #15 fairway on the East. In the last issue of Lifestyle, I mentioned fall is the best time to establish a cool-season lawn and turf from seed. Justin Gladhill and his team have renovated the tall grass area to the left of #11 green and the left of #13 West. Non-selective herbicide was applied to the existing vegetation in the areas, and the areas were prepared and seeded with Beacon hard fescue. When open for play next spring, these areas will be more visually appealing, while dramatically improving the playability. Have a great fall at Five Farms.
As a reminder, these vital maintenance practices will be completed on the greens as follows: • West Course Closed: October 31 through November 3 for core aeration and sand topdressing
