OUR PHILOSOPHY
This statement is more than just words on paper, it is a way of life for us here at BCC. Every interaction our members have at the Club should be enjoyable and memorable, our staff members take every step to go above and beyond to accomplish this. Often, there are easy ways to make a positive impression on our members, from saying “happy birthday” or “congratulations,” but not being afraid to make the big gestures is what sets us apart.

BCC YOUNIVERSITY
At BCC, we are fortunate to have a breadth of talented members and staff with interesting life experiences and areas of expertise. To foster an engaging and fun learning experience for our staff, our Human Resources Team created BCC YOUniversity, which was introduced to staff members in May 2021.
BCC YOUniversity is a continuing education program to promote personal and professional growth for all Baltimore Country Club staff. Staff can learn new skills from fellow staff members, members, and special guests in various courses ranging from gardening and mixology to leadership and fitness. Special guests have included Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr., Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker, and United States men’s national team soccer player Walker Zimmerman.
At the start of the program year, each staff member receives a copy of the course catalog detailing the program requirements and classes offered each month through the end of the fiscal year. Three categories of courses are offered to ensure a well-rounded program experience. These include:
• BCC Enrichment: Course subject applies to the work environment
• Member Engagement: Taught by a BCC member about their area of expertise
• Personal Enrichment: Personal interests/hobbies
Full-time staff are required to earn a total of 4.5 credits, including at least one BCC Enrichment and one Member Engagement credit. Staff registers for classes online using Sign Up Genius. Classes are held during the workday and range from 30 minutes to an hour. Following each class, staff members receive a survey about their experience. Our staff members have reacted positively to participating in the program over the past three years. As of February 23, 2024, 53 classes were held with 709 participants.

STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK
Throughout the year, we hold various pop-up events to give staff members a break during the workday and to show our appreciation. However, we noticed that not everyone could participate due to their busy work schedules. Furthermore, our Human Resources Team organized the first-ever Staff Appreciation Week, which occurred from August 8 through 11, 2023. Each day of Staff Appreciation Week consisted of fun activities, a sweet treat, a minute-to-win-it contest, and an email guessing game. Staff participated in the following activities: petting therapy dogs, getting massages, chiropractic alignments, manicures, and playing in putting and cornhole competitions. For each contest or guessing game, staff members had the chance to win a gift card.
We communicated this event through emails, video boards, and our staff newsletter Park & Farms. After each day, we posted photos and videos of all the fun our staff members had on our social media pages. Our staff members loved participating in the various activities we had, having the break during the workday, and enjoying time with fellow coworkers. We look forward to having more Staff Appreciation Weeks in the future.

GREEN FOLDER STORIES
The Green Folder Stories are about sharing moments where a BCC Staff Member has felt made an impact on someone's life or did something unique to help create a special memory. The act of recording these moments is essential to inspiring others and instilling the Simple Truth into BCC's culture.
The Simple Truth: "Great People Make Favorite Places" is our way of expressing Baltimore Country Club’s member service philosophy. The concept of “Great People Make Favorite Places” encompasses the crucial attitudes, values, and hospitality ideals we implement on a daily basis. It is about establishing genuine relationships with our members, taking care of people, listening to them, and truly connecting on a personal level.
These collective experiences are what makes Baltimore Country Club so special to not just our members but to our staff.
