Research on CEO Function Definition Based on the Complexity of Business Operation in Modern Firms Changzheng Zhang, Yang Li School of Economics and Management, Xi’an University of Technology, Xi’an, China, 710054

Abstract With the development of globalization, the competition among firms all across the world gets fierce, leading to the great conflict and integration of different cultures and the increase of self-realization needs of common employees motivated by the thought of Humanistic management; along with the more complex operation and gap between the conventional responsibility CEOs take and the long term development of enterprises. Based on the literature review and observation results, a “Six-dimensioned CEO Function Model” has been proposed, which demonstrates that CEOs should perform at least six important functions, e.g., Chief Executive Officer, Chief Edge Officer, Chief Ethics Officer, Chief Emergency Officer, Chief Employing Officer, and Chief Emotion Officer. In order to deal with the operation complexity, CEOs should carry out the six functions simultaneously, instead of mutual exclusive, each function supports and enhances each other. 基于现代企业运营复杂性的 CEO 职责界定研究 张长征,李阳 西安理工大学经济与管理学院,陕西省 西安市 710054 摘 要:随着全球化进程的推进,世界范围内的企业间竞争日益激烈,多元文化的融合与冲突加剧,人本化管理思潮促使 员工自我价值实现的需求日益高涨,业务运营复杂性程度越来越高,传统的 CEO 职责界定已经不能满足企业生存发展以 及提升长期竞争力的需求。在对文献归纳与观察现实的基础上,提出“6CEO 说”,即 CEO 应当至少承担首席战略官 (Chief Edge Officer)、首席执行官(Chief Executive Officer)、首席伦理官(Chief Ethics Officer)、首席危机官(Chief Emergency Officer)、首席招聘官(Chief Employing Officer)和首席情感官(Chief Emotion Officer)等 6 种关键角色。为了应对企业运营复 杂性,现代企业 CEO 这项六项职责是同时履行的,职责之间不是相互独立或者相互排斥的,而是相互支撑、相互促进的。 关键词:首席战略官;首席执行官;首席伦理官;首席危机官;首席招聘官;首席情感官;运营复杂性

引言 “CEO”一词已深入人心,其普及程度上至政府政要,下至黎民百姓,无论是从事管理理论研究的专家学 者,还是工商企业管理的切身实践者,亦或是于城乡内外基层活跃的贩夫走卒,多对其知之甚详,至少是 略知一二。在多数人心目中,CEO 或者可以等同于“老板”,而在专业学者的眼中,CEO 是随着企业规模 剧增,所有权与经营权分离而引致的必然产物,即 CEO 是受股东与董事会委托,对企业的经营决策、业务 运营全面负责,承担贯彻委托人战略决策的中心枢纽角色,这就是传统意义上的 “首席执行官(Chief Executive Officer)”。而随着全球化进程的推进,世界范围内企业间竞争日益激烈,多元文化融合与冲突加 剧,人本化管理思潮促使个人自我价值实现的需求日益高涨,与业务规模无关的复杂性程度越来越高,传 - 76 www.emj-journal.org
