About This Book

The visual standards guide includes our brand background, new identity specifications, visual system guidelines, and our brand extensions in the future. This book starts with our brand overview and history for our audience to know the stories behind ERECTOR. Then, we introduce our new identity by showing detailed guidelines which include logo anatomy, clear space, variations, size chart and incorrect usage, . Also, we provide a guideline for our new visual system. In the last chapter of this book, the new ERECTOR will move beyond a toy manufacturing company towards a new era. We identify our future extension opportunities that reinforce our new mission.

Our New Logo ERECTOR’s new logo contains two components: the symbol and the wordmark. The symbol represents the idea of collaborative building, and also its 3d treatment conveys the idea of innovation and future. Moreover, we combined the initial letter “E” with stacked building bricks by utilizing the negative space.

Our Logo Concept

Our new workmark was developed based on our new symbol. We alternated each letter by maintaining the same angle of the building bricks in the symbol, which makes it look visually consistent. We use orange tone to bring new vitality and inventiveness to the new ERECTOR.

Our new logo was inspired by the idea of building, which has always been the core of our brand 20

Anatomy Symbol ERECTOR’s new logo is a combination of the initial letter “E” and 3d building bricks. It is created based on basic rectangles treated with a certain angle and utilizes negative space. The new logo is built accurately with the “X”

as a unit of measurement. “X” is equal to the width of letter “E” strokes in the wordmark as we show in this spread. Our signture should always be used according to the guidelines that we show in this spread.

Clear Space In order to keep our identity’s legibility and visual impact, it is crucial to maintain a designated clear space around our signature to leave proper breathing room so that it can stand out visually. The clear space is defined by the value “X” as we show in this spread. “X” equals to the width of the letter “E” strokes in the wordmark. Please note

Composition Variations Our logo can be used in various ways according to the guidelines that we show in this spread. The compositions include vertical signature, horizontal signature, symbol only, and wordmark only.

It is crutial to follow our guidelines to ensure an established and stable presense of our logo in the marketplace.

Vertical Signature (Preferred) The vertical signature is the preferred format. It should be used whenever possible. It can only be altered according to the specific sizes that we show in the Size Chart (p.36–37).

Symbol Only The ERECTOR symbol can be used separately from the signature when ERECTOR can be shown in context where an abstract reference to ERECTOR is desired, such as app icon.

32

VISUAL STANDARD S GUIDE

Wordmark Only The ERECTOR wordmark can be used when the ERECTOR symbol is not absolutely necessary to be shown or it cannot be legibly reproduced, such as the packaging sides and business system.

Horizontal Signature The horizontal signature should be used only when space dictates that the vertical usage is not possible.

Typography In order to better reflect our new brand tone— vivid, energetic, and friendly— we establish a new typography system to archieve this goal.

Please follow the guidelines that we provide in this spread to maintain the consistency of ERECTOR’s new visual style.

Neue Haas Unica ERECTOR Primary Typeface

Our primary typeface is Neue Hass Unica. It is a highly legible sans serif typeface that has a solid look but conveys a human touch.

It helps bring a more friendly feeling to the new ERECTOR, but still maintains the core of our brand, building, which needs a strong and solid feeling.

ERECTOR Secondary Typeface

Roboto Slab Our secondary typeface is Roboto Slab. It is a highly legible serif typeface that has a strong contrast with our primary typeface.

44

It shows an obvious mechanical and geometric feeling, but it also features friendly curves, which fits our new brand tone and the core of our brand.

Graphic Elements Graphic elements are very helpful to convey a brand’s visual language effectively. Instead of simply applying the brand logo everywhere, generating appropriate graphic elements can also help people recognize the brand.

We extract the graphic elements from our logo. The 3D dynamic geometric shapes add visual interest and enhance the new mission of our brand—inspire ingenuity and promote collaborative building.

Innovative Building Shapes

The “Innovative Building Shapes” are used to emphasize the key elements or messages. They are divided into solid shapes and outlined shapes, which means they can be used in both ways to look visually appealing.

46

The shapes can be used in different proportions, sizes. They can be adjusted according to the elements or messages that you want to emphasize. The end angle of these shapes should always be 45° and only be used in ERECTOR colors (see p.42–43).
