We warmly welcomed your ambition, set out last November, to reform our health service, and as you put it ‘to take the NHS from the worst crisis in its history, put it back on its feet and make it fit for the future’. We were delighted to hear subsequently at your landmark Men’s Health Summit that a Men’s Health Strategy would form part of your Ten Year Plan to do this. We are very pleased that some of us have the opportunity to work with officials at the DHSC on the development of the Strategy.
Thank you
Thank you
We were therefore disappointed to learn that certain women’s health targets have been dropped from the plan, including the target to roll out women’s health hubs across the country. It is essential that we improve the health of women and girls in our country and overcome the health barriers they have faced for far too long. As made clear by our partners in the women’s health sector, these health hubs will have a vital role to play.
Thank you for taking part in our “Men’s Health Champion” training . It’s a vital part of getting the message of men’s health out – and we really appreciate you attending.

As promised, please find enclosed a copy of the “How to be a Men’s Health Champion” guide – as well as our latest “Man Manual”. We also include a badge that we hope you find useful too.

To improve health outcomes we need a strategic, gendered approach to both women’s and men’s health. We cannot have one without the other. They are complementary, not antagonistic.
If you want more copies of the Man Manual or a Men’s Health Champion polo shirt, you can order it via shop.menshealthforum.org.uk/champs or the QR code to the right (and also get a discount on the manuals) .

There is a misapprehension among some that gender in health care is a zero-sum game. It is not. Rather, the opposite is true. Moving away from a one-size-fits-all service to a more gendered approach will improve health outcomes for both women and men and target resources more effectively.
Any feedback on the course or the materials is very welcome. Our goal is that the new programme makes a real difference to men’s health – and if we can help you make the training more widely available in your organisation, please let me know.

Best wishes,
We would urge you to keep gender at the forefront of your thinking when it comes to health service reform. In doing this, we hope you will reconsider this particular decision and make both a Women’s Health Strategy and a Men’s Health Strategy cornerstones of the new ‘fit for the future’ NHS.
Best wishes,
Yours sincerely,
