Aston Martin Goldfinger DB5 cars are taking shape Gadget highlights include revolving number plates, a rear smoke screen, and replica machine guns
For the first time in almost 55 years Aston Martin is once again building one of the most iconic sports cars in the world as engineering development continues on the forthcoming Goldfinger DB5 continuation cars.
AUTOMOTIVE
Aston Martin and EON Productions, the company that produces the James Bond films, are working on the 25 new cars that – aside from being remarkable as new-build DB5’s – will also feature an exciting array of working gadgets first seen on screen in the classic James Bond adventure Goldfinger. Built at Aston Martin Works in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire – the historic home of the brand for more than half a century and the place where all 898 original DB5 sports cars were manufactured between 1963 and 1965 – the 25 continuation models* will include an array of functioning devices created by Bond film special effects genius Chris Corbould OBE. As development works continues, and the first engineering car takes shape at Aston Martin Works’ historic buildings, Chris and his team are working through the testing challenges of bringing legendary cinema scenes into the real world. Chris explained: “The main challenge has been to recreate the gadgets from the film world and transfer them into a consumer product. “We have licence in the film world to ‘cheat’ different aspects under controlled conditions. For instance, we might have four different cars to accommodate four different gadgets. We obviously don’t have that luxury on these DB5’s as all the gadgets have to work in the same car all the time.” The DB5 featured in the Goldfinger film included all manner of ‘non-
standard’ equipment supplied by Q Branch, from battering rams that emerged out of the front bumper to a retractable bullet-proof rear screen and oil slick delivery system. The 25 Goldfinger DB5 continuation cars are set to feature a similar array of ‘extras’ – all standard-fitment on the new cars, of course – which Chris Corbould’s team are perfecting. Subject to final engineering approval, the list of Bond-inspired gadgets will include these features familiar to viewers of the classic 1964 big screen hit. Exterior: • Rear smoke screen delivery system • Rear simulated oil slick delivery system • Revolving number plates front and rear (triple plates) • Simulated twin front machine guns • Bullet resistant rear shield • Battering rams front and rear Interior: • Simulated radar screen tracker map • Telephone in driver’s door • Gear knob actuator button • Armrest and centre console-mounted switchgear • Under-seat hidden weapons/storage tray

All the new cars will be authentic reproductions of the DB5 seen on screen, with some sympathetic modifications to ensure the highest levels of build quality and reliability. Similarly, all the Goldfinger edition cars will be produced to one exterior colour specification - Silver Birch paint just like the original. Chris explained: “My involvement has chiefly been with the front guns, smoke screen and oil slick gadgets, with Aston Martin engineers producing the other items. “The guns appearing from the front lights were a particular challenge as, in the film world, we are able to use flammable gas mixtures combined with an ignition system to produce a flame and noise effect. Clearly this is not practical in untrained hands, so we have devised a new system to achieve a realistic effect.” Paul Spires, President of Aston Martin Works, said: “As work progresses on these remarkable cars, it’s both exciting and a little sobering to think that we are truly making history here. Creating 25 Goldfinger DB5 continuations and working with EON Productions and special effects supervisor, Chris Corbould, is something truly unique and a real career highlight for everyone involved here at Aston Martin Works.” Each Goldfinger DB5 continuation car will be priced at £2.75m plus taxes. First deliveries to customers will commence in 2020.

Road… Sport… or Track BMW’s customised driving experience provides unbridled performance
Unbridled performance and a customised driving experience: BMW M develops new display and control system for its highperformance sports cars. Premiere in the new BMW M8 Coupe and new BMW M8 Convertible: Setup button for configuration of powertrain and chassis systems now also enables selection of braking system settings – New M Mode promotes focused driving on the road and track.
AUTOMOTIVE
The feeling of an M car is unmistakable – and now it can be tailored even more closely to the individual. BMW M GmbH is unveiling a new display and control system for the configuration of the powertrain, chassis and driver assistance systems on its high-performance sports cars. As well as additional scope for adapting the vehicle settings both to the situation at hand and to personal preferences using the Setup button, drivers will also enjoy the services of the new M Mode (activated at the touch of a button). The Setup button can be used to adjust the vehicle settings, while M Mode allows the displays and driver assistance systems to be tuned to the driver’s requirements. This extra individualisation and even more intuitive operation will be included for the first time in the new BMW M8 Coupe and BMW M8 Competition Coupe and the new BMW M8 Convertible and BMW
M8 Competition Convertible. With the help of these new features, drivers of BMW’s high-performance models for the luxury segment can enjoy their exceptional range of abilities – from supreme longdistance comfort to alluring track dynamics – in even greater depth. The control system developed for BMW M models traditionally enables their powertrain and chassis technology to be configured in a wide variety of ways according to personal tastes and needs. Indeed, the driver can activate various settings for the engine, suspension and steering independently of one another. In models specified with the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system, the distribution of power between the front and rear wheels can also be tweaked. And now the new BMW M8 Coupe and new BMW M8 Convertible offer the ability to configure the braking system as required, too.

Grand Touring‌ the McLaren Way New GT Superlight
McLaren Automotive reveals its unique interpretation of a modern Grand Tourer: the new McLaren GT. Sleek, elegant and muscular, the superlight new GT challenges the conventions of the Grand Tourer category with a compelling blend of beautiful design, high-quality innovative materials, true supercar performance and McLaren driving dynamics and engagement.
AUTOMOTIVE
Positioned alongside the established Sports, Super and Ultimate Series families, this is a new McLaren for a new audience and provides an alternative to existing products in an expanding market segment. In re-imagining the spirit of traditional Grand Touring – long-distance driving in comfort, at higher speeds and with room for luggage – McLaren has also redefined the modern GT ownership experience with a car that is lighter, faster and more engaging than existing products in the segment, with greater space, comfort and usability. Like all McLarens, the new GT has a carbon fibre structure that possesses exceptional strength and rigidity while enabling unparalleled driving dynamics and lightest-in-class kerbweight. At 1,530kg (DIN), the McLaren GT is more than 130kg lighter than its closest core competitor and literally hundreds of kilogrammes less than other cars in the segment. With 620PS from its 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine, the power-to-weight ratio of the superlight new McLaren GT is a remarkable 405PS-per-tonne. The bespoke MonoCell II-T monocoque – the T denoting ‘Touring’ – incorporates a carbon fibre rear upper structure that adds minimal weight but allows the creation of a 420-litre luggage area below the front-hinged, full-length glazed tailgate. The tailgate has a soft-close function as standard and can be optioned as electrically powered. The low height of the engine and positioning of the exhaust system has allowed the volume, shape and usability of the luggage bay to be optimised. A golf bag or two pairs of 185cm skis and boots as well as luggage can be carried with ease, while a further 150 litres of storage at the front means the new McLaren GT can accommodate a total of 570 litres. The strength of the carbon fibre core structure means that glazed C-pillars and rear-quarter windows can be incorporated into the design, enhancing rearward vision and bringing still more light into an inherently spacious and uncluttered cabin. Dihedral doors swing upwards to expose a wide opening and low sill. The interior is a cosseting space designed to delight on longer journeys, but with all the essentials for focused, high performance driving; the seating position, location of controls and forward visibility are as important here as they are in any McLaren. The streamlined, electrically adjusted and heated seats, which are unique to the McLaren GT, have been engineered to meet the requirements of Grand Touring, being optimised for long-distance comfort, with the perfect amount of padding and shoulder and back support in combination with superb lateral control. And finally, the performance statistics speak for themselves: with a launch control function optimising acceleration from a standing start, 0-100km/h is achieved in 3.2 seconds, 0-200km/h is dispatched in 9.0 seconds. The maximum speed of the McLaren GT is 326km/h (203mph).

Porsche Cayenne S Coupé debuts with 440 hp Powerful V6 twin-turbo engine supplements range
Porsche is launching another powerful addition to its SUV Coupé range: the Cayenne S Coupé. The model is available for order from today, with first units expected to reach the market in October. The 2.9-litre V6 engine featuring twin-turbocharging and developing 440 hp (324 kW) is at the heart of the new four-door sports car. The maximum torque of 550 Nm guarantees powerful acceleration, resulting in a time of 5.0 seconds from standing start to 100 km/h in combination with the standard Sport Chrono Package. This figure drops to 4.9 seconds with the three optional lightweight sports packages. The top speed is 263 km/h.
AUTOMOTIVE
In addition to the Sport Chrono Package, the standard equipment includes speed-sensitive Power Steering Plus, 20-inch alloy wheels, Park Assist at the front and rear including reversing camera and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). Porsche is extending the model range with the new Cayenne S Coupé. The previously announced models, the Cayenne Coupé with 340 hp (250 kW) and the Cayenne Turbo Coupé with 550 hp (404 kW), were shown at this year’s world premiere in March. The highlights of the brand’s SUV coupé include sharper proportions with a unique rear section, an adaptive rear spoiler, two different roof concepts and a rear bench with the characteristics of two individual seats. The vehicle features a 2.16 m2 panoramic glass roof as standard or can be customized through an optionally available contoured carbon roof with typical sports car look. Innovative six-cylinder engine with central turbo layout The 2.9-litre twin-turbo engine of the Cayenne S Coupé delivers its maximum torque of 550 Nm across a wide engine speed range between 1,800 and 5,500 rpm. Both exhaust turbochargers have been arranged in a central turbo layout inside the cylinder V. This results in an engine with compact dimensions, allowing it to be installed in a lower position for a better centre of gravity and enhanced lateral dynamics. The shortened exhaust paths between the combustion chambers
and the turbochargers produce a particularly spontaneous engine response and a faster build-up in power. The exhaust manifold has been integrated into the cylinder head, which reduces weight and means that the manifold is surrounded by coolant. This ensures highly efficient combustion, particularly under full load. More dynamic proportions and specific design elements A roof line that drops significantly towards the rear also lends the Cayenne S Coupé a particularly dynamic appearance. This effect is supported by a fixed roof spoiler, accentuating the distinctive Coupé silhouette. The front windscreen and A-pillar are lower than in the Cayenne, courtesy of a roof edge that has been lowered by around 20 millimetres. Newly designed rear doors and wings broaden the shoulders of the vehicle by 18 millimetres, contributing to its overall muscular impression. In each Cayenne Coupé model, a fixed roof spoiler is combined with the new adaptive rear spoiler as part of Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA). The spoiler is harmoniously integrated into the vehicle silhouette and extends by 135 millimetres at speeds of 90 km/h and above, increasing the downforce on the rear axle and thus enhancing driving stability.
The new Cayenne S Coupé is available for order. Price details can be obtained at the nearest Porsche Centre.

Porsche’s new Macan S First drive in Kuwait
A fabulously engaging automobile, the Macan shows that a crossover can drive just like a sports car. Within its hood beats a turbocharged V6 of a nominal 3 litres. It’s got a very usable 354 HP on tap, and remember this - the new Macan is equipped with a seven-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Our Zeina Mokaddam became the first of our team to put it to the test on Kuwait’s roads. And she picked quite a road to trial it on – the all-new Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Causeway… one of the longest bridges in the world.
AUTOMOTIVE
First and foremost, the Macan is a crossover with sporting intentions. How does it match up? Well, the ‘S’-version is as quick as some twodoor Porsches, it’s got a super-sharp gearshift and powerful brakes to match. So, it is a sports car? Yes, and more. A highlight of the Macan goes beyond performance figures. This is a car that cannot fairly be quantified by numbers – its true measure can only be calibrated by experiencing its all-around competence on the road. The ride is blissfully smooth and carefully controlled. The Macan’s purposeful attitude in corners makes it feel stable and planted. The steering is a little lighter than in most of Porsche’s sports cars, but it is highly responsive and delivers plenty of feel. Driven hard, to a blindfold passenger this Macan responds like a topranked sports sedan and its performance would be indistinguishable from many other most overtly ‘sporty’ cars. There are ways in which the Macan differs… Its higher seating position gives a better all-round view (all the better for looking over the edge of the bridge, and see Kuwait Bay almost too far below for my total comfort). It’ll take your partner, the kids, the shopping, and a set of golf clubs. Porsche’s infotainment system can be yours with all manner of hightech features, and the Macan can be owned with a wide array of driver-assistance technology, which are optional for your selection. However, key features you should look out for include standard lane-departure warning; automated emergency braking; and adaptive cruise control. Almost 5 years have passed since the 1st generation Macan was unveiled. This facelifted generation Macan brings the model up-todate with the evolution of the brand. Its exterior styling is in line with the latest version of the iconic 911. Styling cues don’t make you go faster, but they do make you look like you belong.

Phantom – Off-duty Culture photographer, Mark Riccioni, captures transformative Rolls-Royce motor car
Patrons of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars connect with the marque as an enabler to create symbolic expressions of their lifestyles. In doing so, these thought leaders work in collaboration with the brand to expand and challenge recognised notions of luxury. One particular Rolls-Royce Phantom, dubbed by its commissioning patron as the ‘Gentleman’s Tourer’, embodies this spirit.
AUTOMOTIVE
A standard Wheelbase model driven solely by the owner himself, it pursues an indisputably modern, urban aesthetic: a deeply personal vision that displays a refreshing irreverence towards the expected codes of automotive luxury. Witnessing the ‘Gentleman’s Tourer’ at the Geneva motor show, automotive culture photographer, Mark Riccioni, voiced a desire to capture this significant motor car in a fashion befitting of its spirit: disruptive, imperious and unapologetically contemporary. Having gained the owner’s permission through the brand, Riccioni chose to shoot his images in London, visiting a series of locations that reflect the zeitgeist that informed the commissioning patron’s vision for his motor car. Rolls-Royce exhibited Riccioni’s work at a special ‘Phantom Off-duty’ exhibition at its Berkeley Square dealership in London. Torsten Müller Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said, “Luxury is deeply personal; it is shaped by cultural codes and an individual’s personal philosophy. ‘Gentleman’s Tourer’ is a truly unique expression of these principles, formed in one of the world’s most exhilarating cities – the capital of our home market, London. I am delighted that Mark Riccioni has so effectively captured the spirit in which this motor car was commissioned and that we were able to share these images with the public.”

Breitling and its Surfers Squad Limited-Edition Superocean Heritage
Breitling launched its Superocean Heritage Ocean Conservancy Limited Edition watch in Bali with the support of its high-profile Surfers Squad members Kelly Slater, Sally Fitzgibbons, and Stephanie Gilmore. Working with the conservation group Ocean Conservancy, Breitling organized a beach cleanup to celebrate the launch of the chronograph, which is limited to 1000 pieces.
WATCHES
On May 10, 2019, Breitling introduced a limited-edition model to commemorate its important partnership with Ocean Conservancy. The launch, which was held in Bali in cooperation with Ocean Conservancy, was part of a beach cleanup initiative with 100 Breitling guests and hundreds of volunteers from Bali and the surrounding region. The cleanup effort resulted in hundreds of kilograms of trash and plastic being removed from the beach. On hand to support the cleanup were the members of Breitling’s Surfers Squad, Kelly Slater, from the US, and the two Australians Sally Fitzgibbons and Stephanie Gilmore, who contributed their efforts to their first shared mission as part of Breitling’s squad. Kelly Slater, arguably the most successful surfer of all time, said: “I always say – and I believe that I can speak on behalf of the entire Surfers Squad – that beaches are, in effect, our offices. What we have seen here and on beaches and in oceans around the world is shocking, and I would like to thank Breitling and Ocean Conservancy for their shared fight against plastic pollution. Everyone can contribute to a cleaner environment – for ourselves and for future generations.”
The Superocean Heritage Ocean Conservancy Limited Edition watch celebrates not only the partnership between Breitling and Ocean Conservancy, but also their shared commitment to helping maintain a healthy ocean and clean beaches. Breitling is participating in Ocean Conservancy’s cleanup programs to protect the health of the ocean and maintain trash-free seas. The Superocean Heritage Ocean Conservancy Limited Edition is distinguished by a caseback engraved with the Ocean Conservancy logo and the limited edition “1 OF 1000”. The chronograph, which is powered by a Breitling Caliber 13 mechanical movement, features an ultra-hard scratch- and shock-resistant unidirectional rotating bezel with a luminescent central dot at 12 o’clock, a particularly useful feature for divers. This dot, as well as the minute and hour hands, are coated with Super-LumiNova® and emit a blue light instead of the standard green. This color variation complements the design of the watch, whose silver-colored dial is enhanced by a blue “Superocean” inscription. There are also blue accents and a blue central second hand as well as tone-on-tone subdials with blue or nickel-plated accents.

However, there is one similarity between A. Lange & Söhne and the Concorso d’Eleganza: Both are small institutions in their respective branches, nevertheless, they do not accept anything but the best to create something long-term with substance. This forms the reasonable basis of the partnership between the two. On the sidelines of the summit of the world’s most beautiful cars, Wilhelm Schmid and automobile collector Duccio Lopresto joined

Vacheron Constantin Patrimony perpetual calendar ultra-thin
An emblematic model from the Patrimony collection is adopting the midnight blue shade specially created for the line. The Patrimony perpetual calendar ultra-thin watch beats to the rhythm of the legendary 1120 QP calibre, an ultra-thin self-winding movement. With its sleek lines embodying quintessential elegance, this version treats connoisseurs to unrivalled contemporary refinement.
WATCHES
The 1120 QP calibre developed and crafted by Vacheron Constantin drives the indications of the hours, minutes, moon phase at 6 o’clock and perpetual calendar with day of the week in a counter at 9 o’clock, date in a counter at 3 o’clock, as well as month and leap year on 48-month counters at 12 o’clock. Recognised by connoisseurs as one of the most iconic perpetual calendars on the market, it can cope with all the vagaries of the calendar without any corrections until March 1st 2100. Unlike simple calendars that require manual adjustment after each month of less than 31 days, the perpetual calendar takes account of the leap-year cycle, with its 31, 30 or 28-day months and the quadrennial return of February 29th. In a final pleasing touch, the moon phase display, adorned in champlevé enamel whose colour is only revealed after ultra-precise firing at very high temperature (approx. 1000°C), evokes the beauty of life’s most beautiful nights. The perpetual calendar complication requires miniaturisation prowess in that the movement must be mechanically adjusted to deal with calendar irregularities. This miniaturisation has been pushed to the limit in order to create an ultra-thin perpetual calendar, with Vacheron Constantin’s Calibre 1120 QP measuring a mere 4.05 mm thick. This feat of engineering with its openwork Maltese cross-shaped oscillating weight comprises no less than 276 components, finished in accordance with the highest standards of Haute Horlogerie. Performing a magical and mesmerising ballet, the latter proudly display their exceptional level of finishing through the transparent sapphire crystal caseback of the watch. Finally, the steady beating of its heart at a rate of 2.75 Hz (19,800 vibrations per hour) ensures the precision of the movement as well as its 40-hour power reserve. Introduced with a pink gold case that makes a perfect match with the sunburst satin-finished blue shade of the dial, and equipped with a folding clasp, this watch naturally conveys the personality of its owner: a timelessly elegant aesthete who matches his appearance with the dark blue of the alligator leather strap, of which the back is also lined with the same leather in an ultimate touch of refinement.

Oris Dive Control Limited Edition Built for professionals
Oris dives deep into their repertoire of watchmaking genius to craft the Dive Control Limited Edition, an evolutionary progression on the independent Swiss company’s highperformance ProDiver watch, made for professional divers. The watch has a 51mm case cast in lightweight Grade 2 titanium and coated in highly scratch-resistant black DLC.
WATCHES
It features the Oris-patented Rotation Safety System, or RSS, a signature Oris device that securely locks the uni-directional rotating bezel in place during a dive. The new watch also features a 60-minute chronograph counter at 12 o’clock, with key detailing in highly legible yellow. Only 500 will be made. Built for professionals The Oris Dive Control Limited Edition was developed in partnership with Roman Frischknecht, a Swiss commercial diver who spends his working life deep underwater, servicing the subsea industry. Working with Roman, Oris developed the patented Rotation Safety System, or RSS, which features on every ProDiver and is designed to lock a watch’s diving bezel securely in place during a dive. This innovative device has become an Oris signature. The watch has a number of features that elevate it above standard diver’s watches. First, it has an oversized 51 mm case that’s cast in lightweight, black DLC-coated Grade 2 titanium and that’s water-resistant to 100 bar (1,000 metres). In testing, Oris’s engineers actually pressure tested the Dive Control Limited Edition to an astonishing 125 bar to ensure it would perform in the most demanding conditions. To maximize legibility, the dial is oversized, too. The bezel, complete with the RSS system, has a scratch and fade-resistant ceramic top ring. The hands, hour markers and zero marker on the bezel are all filled with Super-LumiNova®. Oris’s designers have used high-contrast yellow details to indicate critical information because yellow is one of the most visible colors underwater. It also has an automatic helium escape valve, a device useful to Roman and his colleagues who live in heliox atmosphere during a saturation dive. Helium atoms are smaller than atoms of oxygen and can enter a watch. Without the escape valve to release these particles, they could damage the watch once the diver reaches regular air pressure again. Safety comes first ‘In the companies I work for, safety standards are high and the equipment very reliable. Commercial diving has become one of the most safety conscious professions in the world,’ says Roman Frischknecht. That might be hard to comprehend for those of us who work on terra firma, but when it comes to his work, Roman doesn’t deal in half-certainties. The safety of each member of the diving team is paramount. Their equipment is state-of-the-art, designed to keep them safe in extreme conditions and maintained regularly to ensure performs reliably. Roman applied the same rigor to the development of the Oris ProDiver’s signature feature, the Rotation Safety System. Oris worked with Roman during two years of development to deliver a uni-directional rotating bezel (a device used to measure dive time) that can be locked securely into place during a dive. So critical is time measurement and management in every aspect of diving, that there is no room for error. By locking a bezel in place, he can be sure of exactly how much time he has left on his dive. Oris has patented this innovation and the Oris ProDiver is the only watch in the world to carry the function. ‘A uni-directional rotating bezel is a great tool, but if it doesn’t move once it’s fixed, it gives a diver extra peace of mind when timing a dive’, explains Roman. In addition, the watch’s Swiss Made automatic chronograph movement gives it central seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph hands. The 30-minute chronograph hand has a yellow counter balance that reads off against a yellow scale, extending it to a full 60-minute display. This way reading as well as calculation errors can be avoided and safety thus increases. For a professional diver, this is exactly what comes first.

Omega’s Golden Moment Star-filled tribute to the 50th anniversary of the first lunar landing
It was a gathering of greats at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center when OMEGA paid tribute to the mission that made history. After a day of discussions on a range of space-related subjects, media and VIP guests enjoyed a “Golden Moments” dinner served beneath the impressive Saturn 5 rocket, which was attended by George Clooney, Amal Clooney, Charlie Duke and Thomas Stafford.
Clearly proud of the Swiss brand’s claim-to-fame as the first watch worn on the Moon, President and CEO of OMEGA Mr. Raynald Aeschlimann summed up the spirit of the occasion. “It’s a huge achievement to land on another world. I can’t think of a better reason to raise a glass in tribute.” Though OMEGA Ambassador George Clooney drew a great deal of media attention, the self-effacing actor was determined to ensure the spotlight stayed focused on his fellow guests. “It’s a great pleasure to be here - and an honor. I have enormous respect for the people who made the Apollo missions such a success.” George Clooney was joined on stage by veteran of four NASA space missions and commander of Apollo 10 Lieutenant General Thomas Stafford, along with CAPCOM for Apollo 11 and Apollo 16 lunar module pilot Charlie Duke. Reflecting on the pioneering spirit of the Apollo era, Charlie Duke described it as an exciting time but stressed that the success of the 1969 mission was down to hard work and commitment. “We were heading to the Moon, but we were
also grounded, very realistic, and we never took success for granted, not once.” Apollo 10’s Thomas Stafford talked about the “alien yet familiar” qualities of the lunar surface, and spoke proudly of his role in Apollo 11’s glory. “It was a great honor for me to play my part in the successful mission that followed.” Also in attendance were Astronaut and artist Nicole Stott, NASA pilot and ISS commander Terry Virts, ESA astronaut and NASA veteran Jean-François Clervoy, and former NASA engineer and the man behind the Moonwatch, Jim Ragan. To mark the 50th anniversary OMEGA has released a 42 mm Speedmaster in 18K Moonshine™ gold - an exclusive new alloy which offers a paler hue than traditional yellow gold and higher resistance to fading over time. Game, Set & Match ‌to Z Zegna The never-ending passion of the Zegna Family for tennis is the key inspiration for a multifaceted summer wardrobe rooted in the stylish versatility that characterizes the tennis universe. To celebrate the theme of the season Z ZEGNA has decided to appoint for the first time an official face for the brand: Alexander Zverev, the youngest tennis player in the ATP top 20 and currently ranked number 3 in the world.
FASHION FOR HIM
Z ZEGNA combines performance-backed tailoring with sportswear to reinterpret the very courts that have made tennis history. Spectators are invited to take their seats, creating a collage of pastel shades and graphics, enhanced and contrasted with vivid saturated tones. Ultrafine stretch nylon and maxi mesh play with layered transparency. Excitement builds. Players exchange on their arrival the stylish comfort of their TECHMERINOTM WASH & GO wardrobe of deconstructed jackets, bombers, raincoat and tailored drawstring pants for the highperformance TECHMERINOTM tennis wear necessary for their movement in the coming match. Cobalt, TECHMERINOTM red, sky blue, yellow and natural woolen white detailed with the new TECHMERINOTM stripe and logo inspired by the Zegna Archive are the colors of choice on court. On the other side, vibrant summer tones of turquoise, aquamarine and Tropea pink together with navy, vibrant blue, and grey identify the TECHMERINOTM WASH & GO
wardrobe, backed by Z ZEGNA’s innovative approach to wash-andwear convenience. The resilient wool fibers and unique finishing technique means the Wash&Go wardrobe holds its shape, and can be worn and washed, again and again. Silhouettes are layered, lengthened and light with volume that is softened and rounded. Tailoring is structured in fabrics but deconstructed in form with fitted blazers combining with widened shorts layered over techno logo leggings. Even the accessories are match-worthy, starting with sun visors, tennis cuffs and TECHMERINOTM hair bands all the way to the iconic new “CAULERA sneaker”, named in honor of the Oasi Zegna tennis court built in 1956 by Ermenegildo Zegna in the area of the Oasi Zegna called in the same way. The umpire calls for silence; the match is on.

London’s Pride Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park – All new, all fantastic, all now open
The two faces of London’s Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park are the two faces of London. On one side it’s the world’s best luxury shopping and bustling cosmopolitan streets with bright red double-deckers and the honking of black cabs; and on the other it’s gently pedalling cyclists, slow moving automobiles, and the clip-clop of the occasional horse-and-rider. Knightsbridge and Harvey Nichols at the front, the royally genteel Hyde Park at the rear. Between them lays one of Europe’s most perfect hotels. Only very recently re-opened after a multi-million-dollar restoration, during which London and Hong Kong-based interior design whiz Joyce Wang took care of the new design of all the rooms, suites and public areas, it captures the elegance of London life and add to this the unique Mandarin Oriental-twist. “Working on the redesign of the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park has been an incredible and at times, surreal experience. It had been a dream of mine to work on a building of significant heritage in a city I hold very dear”, she would upon completion. Her studio looked to Hyde Park for inspiration- specifically the different textures, forms and colours you will see at ground level. Fallen acorns served as inspiration here. TRAVEL
was inspired by crown jewels used during royal ceremonies hosted by the hotel in the past. Sitting between glorious Royal Parkland and the buzz of central Knightsbridge, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London is re-imagined and re-invented, offering the essence of timeless heritage coupled with contemporary flair and impeccable service. The stunning re-imagining of The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, London along with the hotel’s destination restaurants and Mandarin Bar, were directed by esteemed New York designer Adam D Tihany. We typically favour Mandarin Oriental when visiting any one of the two-dozen cities they are currently located (the property in Dubai’s Jumeira is their newest, whereas the venue in London was originally opened as an exclusive gentleman’s club in 1889). Service and attentiveness within a Mandarin Oriental hotel is always flawless – MO London was no exception. Someday, perhaps, all hotels will be run this way. They give luxury a new meaning. It is little surprise that the brand’s loyalty club is so well regarded and highly used by its repeat guests. As a ‘fan’ of Mandarin Oriental, members avail from a choice of numerous benefits. They’re certainly worth checking out before you check in! 141 rooms, 40 suites, 3 restaurants and bars represent London’s scorecard. Our pick? Well, with three outstanding restaurants and two Michelin stars, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London is undeniably one of the city’s finest culinary destinations. Heston Blumenthal has place there, and so does Daniel Boulud. As the only London restaurant of Michelin-starred chef Boulud, his eponymous Bar Boulud offers a truly special dining experience. A stylish bistro specialising in seasonal, rustic French cooking, Bar Boulud’s relaxed ambience and fabulous cuisine continues to win plaudits from critics and diners alike. Comfort, luxury, design, location, and food are only part of every Mandarin Oriental’s story… another piece in the jigsaw is a superb spa and wellness facility. London is no exception. In a world where a fully-equipped gym is de rigueur, this London icon has upped the game to another level with their new Fitness Centre which has been tailored to the cosmopolitan, luxury traveller and boasts state-of-the-art Technogym® equipment and a 17-metre indoor swimming pool. The changing area offers a sauna in the male area and steam room in the female area, revitalising experience showers and a relaxation area. Spa time, you say? Along with the infinite possibilities their tailormade treatments offer, besides their 13 luxurious treatment rooms, you’ll find the Oriental Suite, featuring two massage beds and a Rasul water temple – its health-enhancing heat, steam and mud are the ultimate in conditioning treatments. After nearly two-decades as a Mandarin Oriental property, their Hyde Par, London venue is back. All new. All fantastic. All now open. You’d be remiss not to try it.

Out and About with Tamara Saab Tamara Saab x Passions Arabia
“Ramadan is my favourite time of the year”, says Tamara. The holy month gives us a pause, a blessed occasion where we all gather with family and friends. Out of all the ghabkas I have attended this year, being part of the AUB (American University of Beirut) Kuwait Chapter ghabka event meant a lot to me, especially since for the first time I was presenting it. The WAAAUB (Worldwide Alumni Association of AUB) honoured a great leader in Mr. Faisal Ali AlMutawah for his long-standing support of the AUB Kuwait Chapter and for his contribution to its inception and continued success.

Gulf Bank’s Ramadan Campaign - A Hit With Viewers Campaign garners 10 million+ views
Striving to be the country’s top bank means letting people know who you are and what you stand for. In an increasingly congested marketplace, there’s one bank that stood out above every other bank during the holy month of Ramadan – Gulf Bank.
BANKING
In an impressive advertising move, Gulf Bank’s Ramadan campaign acquired a record number of viewers during the course of the holy month, garnering over 10 million views across various digital channels. The campaign makes use of a unique advertising move — the first of its kind in Kuwait and the region — in which viewers were given the chance to determine the ending of the story by voting for one of the two main characters, resulting in wide-spread engagement with the campaign. This year, Gulf Bank’s Ramadan campaign revolves around the story of Lulwa, who as a young girl captures the hearts of two neighborhood boys, Aziz and Nasser. During the course of the story, both Aziz and Nasser end up vying for Lulwa’s affections, with both eventually requesting her hand in marriage. The story of Lulwa’s engagement highlights authentic Kuwaiti customs and values, including girgean, close-knit neighbors, caring families, and the humility and simplicity of the Kuwaiti people. At the end of the main video, both Aziz and Nasser are shown attending Lulwa’s engagement, but it is unclear which of the suitors Lulwa will choose. That decision was left up to the viewers, an advertising decision that marked its debut this year on Gulf Bank’s social media channels. After watching a series of short videos featuring Lulwa’s mother interviewing the two candidates, viewers voted for the candidate they believed would make the best match. At the end of the campaign, Aziz emerged as the best suitor for Lulwa. Gulf Bank’s Ramadan campaign this year hits home for many people in Kuwait, reflecting prized values that Kuwaitis hold near and dear to their hearts. In partnering with Joy Productions to help bring this creative concept to life, Gulf Bank was able to garner more than 10 million views across multiple channels throughout the month, and engage viewers in a way unlike anything that has been done before. In addition to Joy Productions, Gulf Bank was proud to work with several other members of the local creative community to bring their vision to life, including: Mama Anisa, who narrated the main campaign video; Hoda Khatib, who contributed as a guest of honor; Bashar Al-Shatti, the music and soundtrack producer; and Heba Hamada, who contributed to the writing. To watch Gulf Bank’s Ramadan ad, visit the Gulf Bank YouTube channel. To find out more about Gulf Bank, customers can visit one of the Gulf Bank’s 58 branches or log on to www.e-gulfbank.com. It’s summertime, and for sure you’ll be planning your global travels. Here’s one essential event you surely can’t miss!
La Biennale di Venezia Open to the public from Saturday May 11th to Sunday November 24th 2019, at the Giardini and the Arsenale, the 58th International Art Exhibition, titled May You Live In Interesting Times, is curated by Ralph Rugoff and organized by La Biennale di Venezia chaired by Paolo Baratta. “The title of this Exhibition could be interpreted as a sort of curse” – stated President Paolo Baratta - where the expression “interesting times” evokes the idea of challenging or even “menacing” times, but it could also simply be an invitation to always see and consider the course of human events in their complexity, an invitation, thus, that appears to be particularly important in times when, too often, oversimplification seems to prevail, generated by conformism or fear. And I believe that an exhibition of art is worth our attention, first and foremost, if it intends to present us with art and artists as a decisive challenge to all oversimplifying attitudes. The Exhibition also includes 89 National Participations in the historic Pavilions at the Giardini, at the Arsenale and in the historic city centre of Venice. Four countries are participating for the first time at the Biennale Arte: Ghana, Madagascar, Malaysia, and Pakistan. The Dominican Republic exhibits for the first time at the Biennale Arte with its own national pavilion. 21 Collateral Events which are admitted by the curator and promoted by non-profit national and international bodies and institutions, take place in several locations; they offer a wide range of contributions and participations that enrich the diversity of voices that characterizes the Biennale.
