Seawork signing delivered
A contract signed at Seawork 2024 in Southampton saw a new multi-purpose workboat delivered this summer.
Damen Shipyards Group and Maritime Craft Services (Clyde) Ltd (MCS) signed a contract for the supply by Damen of one of its popular Shoalbuster 2711. The new vessel, named Heather 2, will be the company’s third Shoalbuster and will join eleven Fast Crew Suppliers and Multi Cats built by Damen.
Owned by the Kuyt family, MCS is based in Fairlie on the west coast of Scotland. A long-standing customer of Damen Shipyards, MCS now owns an eighteen-strong fleet of workboats with its latest addition delivered. The company operates worldwide with an emphasis on western
Europe and the Middle East.
The Shoalbuster 2711 is similar in size to the Damen Multi Cat 2712 that MCS acquired last November. However, the prominent bow makes it more suitable for offshore projects and so opens up other possibilities. As with all Shoalbusters, it designed for shallow waters (three metres maximum draft), making it ideal for assisting dredging and cable laying, as well as other wind farm support operations.
Key features include 41 tonnes bollard pull and a top speed of 11 knots.
The optimised deck layout has low freeboard for easy access to the water and the Heather 2 will be fitted with an AKC 185 deck crane and a waterfall winch. The vessel will also be fitted with a

Fast forward for a better combination
Humphree interceptors are to be included as standard on all Goodchild ORC vessels, following the announcement that a partnership agreement has been signed by the two companies.
Humphree says that this partnership began at Seawork 2022, where an initial meeting showcased how the interceptors could enhance the already impressive SB Lynx 02.

agreement aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing our customers with the highest quality, marine specific cranes and we are confident that they will meet the diverse needs of our customers’.
TMP Hydraulik of Denmark has been manufacturing marine cranes for over 35 years. Already very popular amongst the North Sea fishing fleet and CTVs in the UK, TMP is looking to expand its presence in the UK and Ireland’s commercial marine market.
“Fast forward to this year’s Seawork, and we’ve come full circle. Our interceptors will now be a key feature on Goodchild Marine’s vessels, ensuring

Sale finalised at Seawork
HamiltonJet finalised the sale of the first two shipsets of their LTX53 waterjets to Windcat Workboats at Seawork.
The waterjets are destined for a 22-meter European Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) operation, marking a new chapter in their collaboration with Windcat Workboats and contributing to the efficiency and sustainability of maritime operations.
The LTX53 waterjets are designed to provide optimal performance, reliability and efficiency within medium speed applications. These features make them ideal for a variety
of marine applications, particularly for Crew Transfer Vessels, which require both efficiency and precision.
The 22-meter CTVs that will be equipped with the LTX53 waterjets are designed to support offshore wind operations. These vessels play a crucial role in transporting personnel and equipment to and from wind farms, often operating in challenging conditions. The efficiency and reliability of the LTX53 waterjets will provide Windcat Workboats with a competitive edge.
Initial Seawork meeting creates foundation for beneficial partnership
A €25m finance facility from Siemens Financial Services (SFS) is enabling offshore maritime services provider Mainprize Offshore to grow its CTV fleet.
Mainprize, founded in 1979, currently operates nine CTVs across the North Sea, off the coast of Scotland, Germany and Denmark. Bob Mainprize, owner, explains, “We initially met SFS at Seawork in 2023 and so, when we needed finance support to acquire new CTVs, they were already in our minds as a prospective lender.
“Our business needs specialist financing partners who understand our products, our markets, asset values and applications, and the dynamics of a business like ours. Technical understanding and market appetite are crucial. That’s why
we wanted to work with SFS.
“Their understanding of new vessel build times and inherent FX requirements, for instance, is reflected in our financing agreement, which offers flexibility on the fund drawdowns as well as an in-house FX facility. Their specialised approach is a strategic advantage to support our business growth.”
‘The timing
couldn’t
have been more perfect’
Meeting fellow-exhibitor
Atlantis Marine Power (AMP) at Seawork couldn’t have been more opportune for Prior Power Solutions, resulting in the company becoming the latest KOHLER generator dealer in the UK.
Sam Bradley, Sales Manager at AMP explains, “We are actively expanding the distributor network across the UK to support the increasing number of vessels using KOHLER generators.”
“Meeting Prior Power Solution at Seawork and discovering their experience, customer-base, and reputation was exactly what’s needed from a KOHLER dealer, and we expect the partnership to flourish with their eagerness and expertise.”
Parts & Engine Sales Manager for Prior Power Solutions, Stuart Holland says, “I’ve always been impressed with the generators from KOHLER. It was a great opportunity to meet Sam at Seawork as they looked to expand their dealer network. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect.
“We already represent a number of prestigious OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and component manufacturers as authorised dealers, but there was a clear growing demand for quality marine generators to suit the needs of the industry, where efficiency is key.”
Daniel Platten, Service Manager is enthusiastic about what the new deal will mean for business, “Quite a number of our customers, particularly in offshore wind, have KOHLER generators on their vessels. Being a service agent for KOHLER will support them with an approved service provider on their doorstep and allow us to provide them with comprehensive service support for all their equipment onboard.”
Based in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk UK, Prior Power Solutions will primarily support marine commercial customers on the East Coast. In addition to new generators, Prior Power Solutions will supply the full range of parts and accessories with free delivery to local customers.

Christoffer Bårdsen, HSEQ Manager at Norwest Ship Management, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “We are excited to join forces with UniSea, a recognized leader in HSEQ software solutions. This partnership will further support our strong commitment to safety and operational excellence as we continue to prioritize the wellbeing of our crews, vessels, and the environment.
A quick note to thank you for yours and your team’s efforts in organising what was a really well organised Seawork.
This year I was able to relax a lot more as the process just seemed to be a lot smoother, in terms of having the tank delivered, having it filled, the stands all set up to how they should be, power, furniture etc.
The teams at the front desk helping me to get all my exhibitors passes printed with the correct company names, security etc.
It all just ran really smoothly allowing me to concentrate on visitors and ensuring the tank was getting optimal use.
Our area both inside and outside was heaving, with members visiting from all over the country and even Kirby Morgan having 5 people over from the states for the entire duration.
Considering how busy they all are they still took time out of there diaries to spend the time in Southampton for more than one day, shows how much they value the networking and engagement.
Thank you for your flexibility, help and support as always.

This year is our first time back at Seawork for a few years. We’re now under new management and it’s a good opportunity to gain more exposure for the company. It’s been busy and, overall, a good show for us. We’re also looking forward to the raft race but with some trepidation as our raft was designed and built by our chairman. We’re not sure it’s going to float [it didn’t].

It’s our first time at Seawork and we wanted to test the market for our waste management systems. Our MARINaut vacuum device super compact waste management device can save money by reducing waste, it’s clean, does not emit any odours and does not require refrigeration. It’s already installed on some 300 superyachts, and also on some naval ships, oceanographic and cruise ships, so we felt Seawork would be a good place to meet potential customers from other sectors. It’s been a very good and positive day. Seawork has given us the opportunity to meet decision makers in the commercial sector.

We’ve had a very constructive show meeting all of the right contacts and with the opportunity to talk about on-going contracts and about new contracts as well. It’s always an extremely friendly and business-focussed show. Our success and growth as a company is intrinsically linked to the success of Seawork.
This is our 25th year of being at Seawork, and it’s still as strong as it was all those years ago. We’ve been very busy, it’s really good networking and the chance to catch up with customers. The Seawork show is really well organised.

Over 280 students took the opportunity to visit Seawork 2024; exploring the exhibition, talking to individual companies and attending the Careers Fair.
Working with Maritime UK Solent and Solent Partners, the Seawork Training and Careers Day started with the first session of ‘Commercial Marine’s Got Talent’, where the students listened to young people talk about their own career pathway and ambitions in a series of short inspirational talks. Twenty four companies showed their wares and opportunities in the Careers Fair itself.
So what did the potential commercial marine employees of the future think about it all? Here’s what the students and their teachers had to say:
“A wonderfully informative event that inspired my students.”
“This is by far the best careers fair for my Marine engineering students looking for employment.”
“Our students were captivated by the speakers and their experiences during the conference event and loved having the freedom to explore the stalls and ask questions afterwards to find out more.”

“Students were already excited about the day before going after hearing from the previous year’s students and the day did not disappoint!”
“We loved the event, it was a long drive but worth it, we loved speaking to companies.”
“We found talking to the companies very interesting and it was great to go on the boats and see how they work.”
“A great opportunity to see the many and varied careers available in the maritime industry.”
“Thank you for organising the day and we look forward to attending again in the future!”

Congratulations to Emma Maunder, the Workboat Association Apprentice of the Year
Emma passed her two year Marine Workboat Apprenticeship earlier this year, completing her studies and final assessment with a Distinction, and is now employed as a Harbour Operative by Cattewater Harbour Commissioner.
So why did Emma win?
Technical battle of skills to return for 2025
Seawork 2024’s Training and Careers Day saw the winners of the BMEEA Marine Electrical Apprentices Competition announced after a hard-fought real-time technical battle of skills.
Originally nominated by her employer together with her training provider SeaRegs, Emma not only demonstrated a very high level of passion and determination during her apprenticeship but also the maturity and ability to act in challenging situations.
The board of judges unanimously agreed that Emma not only showed fantastic learning achievement but she has proven an enthusiastic and essential crew member who has excelled both in her duty at work and the volunteering that she continues to do in her free time.
Whilst at work Emma was also key in the emergency operation for life threatening injuries sustained by a port user who was struck by the propeller of a vessel making way – she was there and dealt with it, highly commended.
Emma showed her initiative from before day one when her private car broke down on the way to her interview, she abandoned it safely and then ran to find the nearest public transport link to get to her interview in time.
What did Emma think of her apprenticeship?
“I’ve really enjoyed the last couple of years completing the Marine Workboat Apprenticeship – maintaining and servicing the moorings, as crew on the Pilot boats and tug, towage jobs and general harbour work. Thank you to all the Cattewater Harbour team for their support, knowledge and encouragement throughout, and especially as I completed the final assessment.”
Emma is also an advocate for diversity within the industry and continues to put herself out of her comfort zone to highlight the opportunities in the maritime sector to those who are unaware.
A resourceful and creative individual. Congratulations, Emma!
18 teams from seven companies; Sunseeker, Platinum Marine Services, RNLI, Atlas Elektronik, Berthon, Cobra RIBS, and Oyster took part in the annual competition, held for the second year running at Seawork. The task, set on the day, included design, calculation, standards, wiring up, and the all-important ‘Does it work?’ A very high standard was achieved with little to separate the top 3 teams.
The winners were Connor and Chris from Sunseeker, who received the sparkling glass winners’ trophy and two fully loaded technical rucksacks courtesy of CK. In second place, and receiving two Weidmuller Crimp Sets, were Charlie and James from Platinum Marine Services. Third place went to Sidney and Oakley from Sunseeker who each received a CK technical rucksack.
The BMEEA (British Marine Electrical & Electronics Association) Marine Electrical Apprentices Competition will return to Seawork on the morning of Thursday 12 June 2025.
Seawork has been really interesting for us in terms of the people we’ve seen on our stand.
The support staff at the show are great. We’ve also made really good use of the Seawork App, which is great to help us engage with visitors and set up meetings.

MERCY SHIPS DOES THE JOB EXHIBITING SUSTAINABLY
Mercy Ships is an international development organisation that deploys hospital ships to some of the poorest countries in the world, delivering vital, free healthcare to people in desperate need.
Currently, Mercy Ships operates two hospital ships. The Global Mercy is the largest charity-run hospital ship in the world. The 174-metre, 37,000-ton ship has six operating rooms and houses over 600 volunteers from around the globe representing many disciplines including surgeons, maritime crew, cooks, teachers, electricians, the host staff and more. The ship also features a 682-seat auditorium, student academy, café, shop and library .
The Africa Mercy contains five operating rooms, a four-bed recovery area, intensive care for up to five patients, and 80 ward beds. It houses about 400 volunteer crew members from up to 40 nations.
Each year, more than 3,000 volunteers from over 60 countries serve on board the world’s two largest civilian hospital ships and only 50% of these are medics. Mercy Ships are currently urgently recruiting maritime officers, as well as engineers and hospital support services.
SEAWORK ENVIRONMENT PARTNER LAUNCHES MEMBER SCHEME
Seawork’s official Environmental Partner the Big Blue Ocean Cleanup has launched an Official Verified Partner scheme that offers a range of benefits to those who join, including 20% off member rates for Seawork exhibitors.
Based in Gibraltar, the nonprofit runs clean-ups around the world, engaging volunteers, community groups, company employees and many others and alerting them to the plastic poisoning the world’s waters.
As well as encouraging clean-ups, the organisation also gathers data to pass on to scientists, universities and governments to help inform them about the situation. If nothing is done, the group believes, there could well be more plastic than fish in our oceans within 30 years.
The partnership aims at brands and companies who want to make a positive contribution to ocean health, and members get full commercial rights to use Big Blue Ocean Cleanup logos, videos and photography; support for any clean-up operations they want to kick off; marketing support and
company logo and link added to the Official Partners page.
“Big Blue Ocean Cleanup is an international ocean conservation non-profit that does good in the world,” says Rory Sinclair, CEO of the Big Blue Ocean Cleanup. “Our mission is to keep the oceans clean and repair marine ecosystems, allowing nature and people to thrive.
“We work with a range of companies, businesses, community groups and individuals to get as many people as possible to help clean up our blue planet. Support our worldwide mission to end ocean pollution by getting involved - and we can do a SEAWORK 20% discount if they become an Official Verified Partner of Big Blue Ocean Cleanup and engage in ocean conservation support.”
As an exhibitor at Seawork, there are several ways to promote sustainability and reduce your environmental impact. Here are some ways you can exhibit more sustainably:
Reduce your waste
As a part of our commitment to continually enhance sustainability, all stands are required to be formed as a reusable structure.
Aim for a paperless stand
Use sustainable materials
Choose materials that are environmentally friendly such as bamboo, recycled plastic, or biodegradable materials.
Use digital marketing materials instead of paper. This includes digital brochures, flyers, and other promotional materials. Choose sustainable giveaways
Use LED lights
LED lights are energy-efficient and can help reduce your electricity usage. They also last longer than traditional light bulbs, reducing the amount of waste generated.
Reduce carbon emissions from transport and travel
Shuttle buses run regularly from Southampton Central station to & from event. Try to use local suppliers to reduce transport time for materials. Encourage staff to carpool to the event.
Give away items that are environmentally friendly, such as reusable water bottles, tote bags, or bamboo utensils.
Avoid single-use plastic
Try to use alternatives to plastic banners and signage, such as fabric banners or digital displays. Avoid the use of single-use plastics. Provide stand staff with refillable water bottles.
Speed@Seawork will return to the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) Cowes, Isle of Wight in 2025 for the 6th edition of the event.
Held in partnership with SMI (Society of Marine Industries), Speed@Seawork offers an international field of delegates from the defence and specialist sectors the opportunity to participate in sea-trials, enjoy fast manoeuvres and equipment demonstrations, as well as watching keynote presentations from Procurement and UK MOD personnel.
Speed@Seawork 2024 saw Pete Lagden, the new UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) Boats Team Leader, present the latest thinking in his department; emphasising the change in management and acquisitions that are currently being transitioned, moving towards an agile way of working.
Pete said, “It’s a real privilege to be here today with my colleagues, what astounds me the most is the amount of equipment that the Boats Team support, approximately 3,200 platforms with 112 different classes of boat or platform. The team are looking at the 70% of solutions that exist in the industry today rather than options that are still in the future.”
We’re here for the first time at Seawork and Speed@Seawork, showcasing our powertrain. PurpleSector
Speed@Seawork, the sector-specific feature of Seawork will be held on Monday, 9th June 2025. For more details on the cost-effective ways to get involved, either as an exhibitor, sponsor or as delegate, call +44(0)1329 825335 or email speed@
