ew Year-New You!

We have all heard the news. Sedentary lifestyles and poor nutrition have created an unprecedented health crisis. The number of overweight and obese people is higher than ever, while fewer people are physically active. As your public parks and recreation provider, we believe that we should take a leadership role in the health of the Merriam community. In this New Year, we would like to help you get a head start to improving your health in 2012. Inside this brochure you will find many activities and programs that will help you get started. Most of them are found at Irene French Community Center and include: • Fitness center memberships for ages 16 & over. • Pre-school park for our youngest citizens. • Instructional athletics and dance classes for kids age three and over. • Adult exercise classes such as Weight management, Step Aerobics, Drums Alive, Yoga, Belly Dance, Ballroom Dance, Zumba . . . and the list goes on! • Senior Adult programs such as Wii Bowling, Flexercise and Senior Poker Walk. If you prefer to exercise outdoors, check out the Turkey Creek Streamway Trail for a beautiful 4-mile walk or bike from our southern to northern city limits-or one of our shorter trails at Vavra, Brown, or Quail Creek Parks. We encourage you to begin your own walk toward active living. Give us a call if we can help! Susan Hayden, Director of Parks & Recreation
