Jan 1: Pet Registration Due

Pets over the age of six months must be licensed in the City. Residents are allowed a maximum of three dogs and three cats per household. Register your pets online at merriam.org/pets, by mail, or in person at Merriam City Hall. Owners must show proof of a valid rabies vaccination.

Jan. 1: Occupation Licenses Due

Before you conduct business in Merriam, you need to get an occupation license. Apply for a new license or renew a license online at merriam.org, by mail, or in

person at Merriam City Hall. Some home-based businesses require a permit.

Jan. 4–8: Free Holiday Tree Disposal

There will be a one-time pickup to collect holiday trees the first week of January. Place trees curbside by 7 a.m. on your scheduled pickup day. Find more information at merriam.org/treelimbs.

Feb. 1: Franchise Fee Rebate Program Applications Open

Applications are available starting Feb. 1 for Merriam residents with low-to-moderate income to apply for a franchise fee rebate. Utility companies routinely collect franchise fees from its customers throughout the year. This program provides eligible Merriam families the opportunity to apply for franchise fee refunds paid on electric, gas, and landline phone bills in 2020. Contact the Community Development Department at 913-322-5520 or visit merriam.org/franchisefee to learn more about the program or get an application. Applications are accepted through May 1, 2021.

March 15–19: Spring Tree Limb Pickup

Dispose of your branch and brush debris during the City’s free tree limb pickup the third week of March. Place tree limbs curbside before 7 a.m. on Monday. Public Work crews will collect branches throughout the week. Please don’t include any building material, plastic, metal, cardboard, paper, or any other debris. April 19–23: Spring Large-Item Pickup

Residents can dispose of large items such as furniture, appliances, mattresses, and rugs. Please place items by your curb before 7 a.m. on your scheduled pickup day. Find more information at merriam.org/largeitem. Call the Public Works Department at 913-322-5570 with any questions. Many items can be donated or recycled by different providers in the Kansas City area. Find where to take items at RecycleSpot.org.
