Service robotics.
Developed by humans. For humans. Yesterday’s fiction—implemented today: a new robot generation. Their mission: serving humans. Their applications: versatile. For example in retail, logistics, medicine, cleaning, agriculture, and security. Be it driverless transportation systems, stocktaking, or assistants in health care: Service robots will soon be an integral part of our everyday lives.
Apart from mobile robots, there are stationary industrial solutions on display as well to serve as examples for functioning humanrobot collaboration. The hourly Service Robotics Show presents various service robots for applications such as transport, smart manipulation, private households and public institutions.
automatica supports this trend with the Professional Service Robotics exhibition area. Marketable products such as components, systems, and technologies are presented here. You can experience robots live in action and interact with them in the adjacent Demo park.

IT2Industry.
Connected with the future. Connected with success. The factory of the future is smart. This makes adequate IT solutions, products and services even more vital. In response to the huge demand of companies, automatica has now established a dedicated subject area with exhibition space and a forum: IT2Industry—in the Future and Innovation Hall B4. It’s the spot where industry representatives meet ICT specialists to discuss the challenges of Industry 4.0 in detail. In addition, IT2I offers all key technologies in a single location, networking with decision-makers, as well as application-specific inspiration for small and medium-sized companies.

Industry 4.0 demonstrators.
The production of tomorrow. On display today. OPC UA Demonstrator Next level: The OPC UA Demonstrator is a new future-oriented approach by VDMA Robotics + Automation for standardized and manufacturer-independent data exchange. The goal: Making OPC UA’s potential tangible rather than presenting an abstract concept—with a system that assembles fidget spinners live on site. More than 20 component manufacturers, system integrators and software specialists joined hands for this project to integrate a rotary indexing table, axes and grippers, machine vision systems and robots. Condition monitoring of robots from different manufacturers at various locations is presented as another use case on a dashboard.
smart4i Next Generation Demonstrator Production of the future—here and now. The Industry 4.0 demonstrator smart4i NG—developed by ITQ—produces model cars and you can experience its production process live on site. The demonstrator was initiated and sponsored by the VDMA Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association. It features a modular design representing all relevant Industry 4.0 applications— from the cloud down to sensor level. Thanks to a digital twin, the virtual representation of the physical production process, you can track and monitor your order during the entire process.

Industry 4.0 highlights.
Digitalization in a nutshell: better business. People in the smart factory
Platforms and ecosystems
What is the role of analog humans in digital factories? It is an important one—as the special show by VDMA Robotics + Automation suggests. The interaction between humans and machines will increase in the future to achieve a whole new level of performance. It is human dexterity combined with digital assistance systems that will enable the required zero-defect quality in manual assembly processes for the first time. Technology will be worn on the body: in form of a communicating wristband or augmented reality glasses. Humans and machines will communicate intuitively. Workplaces will become more ergonomic and attractive than ever before—including those in your company.
Success through synergies. Digitalization generates entirely new business models. This is achieved through platforms and ecosystems, i.e. innovation partnerships between companies jointly advancing new developments to secure and expand their competitive edge. Not only does this promote the cooperation of industrial companies—it also brings together various stake holders such as suppliers, customers, investors, research institutions and trade associations. Discover the potential.

New talents.
Our remedy for the shortage of specialists? Commitment. automatica Makeathon
Supporting young talent
From the idea to implementation in 24 hours: The automatica Makeathon—presented in cooperation with ITQ and Conrad Electronic—is targeted at young professionals and students from the fields of software engineering, mechatronics and mechanical engineering. More than 100 participants form competing teams to develop software and hardware prototypes within the areas of robotics, Internet of Things and automation. Experience creativity— and solutions for Industry 4.0—taking shape under real-life conditions.
The Integration Islands project is an example for automatica’s commitment to tackle the lack of specialists in a proactive way— by supporting young talent in cooperation with ITQ. How does it work? Young refugees and students are introduced to technology through games at staffed learning stations. They craft, program and solder in small groups as they learn about the basics of technical occupations. For many of them, this could be the first step towards becoming a trainee in the robotics and automation sector.
