TRADE SHOW FOR DESIGN, SPATIAL DESIGN AND LIGHTING 7–11 SEPT. 2016

OPENING HOURS: WED. 7 SEPT. FROM 10 TO 18 THU. 8 SEPT. FROM 10 TO 18 FRI. 9 SEPT. FROM 10 TO 18

Welcome to Showroom – a new event targeted at professionals in design, spatial design and lighting! Showroom is the result of cooperation between two major Finnish events in the design industry: Helsinki Design Week and Habitare have joined forces. With its opening upon us, the Showroom event will open the door to the future, and the programme theme, “Different thus Better”, nicely captures our goals. Exciting companies, talented designers and advanced research will provide professionals with a unique experience. Our versatile and international list of speakers will inspire and challenge visitors. The design of the Showroom area is by ALA Architects. The exhibition design is steeped in the world of the theatre! The design uses KARI KORKMAN Director Helsinki Design Week

nearly 100-year-old backdrops from plays staged at the Finnish National Theatre, creating a unique contrast with the trade fair environment. We hope that Showroom will provide you with an excellent opportunity to network and to meet colleagues and friends. The Brella networking service, also available for use at professional events, will help you to plan your meetings effectively in advance. As part of Helsinki Design Week’s Showroom Walk event, there will be a shuttle service taking you from Messukeskus to the exhibition spaces of the various participating businesses around Helsinki. Wishing you a rewarding experience at Showroom! LAURA SARVILINNA Programme director Messukeskus

Showroom Stage Over three afternoons, top professionals from various fields will take the Showroom stage, each speaker exploring the theme of “Different thus Better. All of these professionals have an enterprising attitude and the ability to create non-mainstream projects. The results of their work spark discussion: they are creators who lead the way forward. Design, architecture and lighting professionals will be offered discussions on highly charged topics that have relevance to people and society. The topics of the speeches and discussions at Showroom are related to new materials, leadership, experiences and the future of the home. Other topics touched upon are choices, values, money, the importance of concepts and the power of storytelling. Showroom is not a conference, and the programme is not divided into fieldspecific themes. Each of the speakers and speeches will have a unique theme. The speakers represent a variety of professions from architects and chefs to materials researchers and from textile designers and master confectioners to designers. The event aims to present a fascinating array of possibilities. It will inspire and

challenge people to work in a goal-oriented and uncompromising manner. The characteristics that all the Showroom speakers share are entrepreneurship, perseverance, professionalism and boldness. They push their own fields forward, challenge the old industries and conceive new ideas. In their speeches and in the discussions at Showroom, the speakers will tell their personal stories and share their experiences in working their way to the top of their respective fields. Each of them is a personality who, through their work, will undoubtedly leave an imprint on society. The most important task of Showroom is to be an event that offers a variety of answers on how to generate activity and development that have real significance to society. The curator of the Showroom stage programme is Tuuli Sotamaa (AteljĂŠ Sotamaa). The moderator of the discussions is an entrepreneur and design expert Katja Lindroos.

AMEETING PLACE BY MARTELA Various meeting places are becoming increasingly important in work environments. You can work on your own where and when you wish, but meetings always require a common time and space. Just sticking to your scheduled appointments can be restrictive and does not support innovation and creativity. The Meeting place by Martela provides all Showroom visitors with the opportunity to catch up with old acquaintances and meet new ones, in the context of different, perhaps even surprising, meeting place solutions.
