The first time that I knew about this band was when I listens the song “Fuel on the Hill”. Then I decided to contact with them and they consented to the moment to be interviewed. Mixing a rhythm between Metallica and The Beatles, here I give you with this interview to Beatallica. Answer me Jaymz y Kliff, two of his members. By: Alejandro Pérez.
Greetings and be welcome to this Cuban rock magazine. For me is a big pleasure can do it this interview. JAYMZ - It’s always super cool to be asked to be a part of things. Especially for a magazine we haven’t been in. Salud to that! KLIFF- Hola, como está la casa de Pepe? Dos Cervesas por favor. Sorry that is the extent of my Spanish. What's up heshers? First question. Where and when arises Beatallica. Who are they actually members? JAYMZ - We are from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. USA. Our band is made up of Jaymz Lennfield-lead vocals and guitars; Kliff McBurtney-bass and backing vocals; Ringo Larz-drums; and Grg Hammetson-lead guitar and backing vocals. We started as an internet band in 2001. Were touring Europe and the USA by 2005. Can’t believe it’s been that long now!
Why the name of Beatallica? Any special meaning? JAYMZ - We actually didn’t come up with the name. Our former webmaster of puppets did. It’s a mash-up of the Beatles and Metallica, of course. KLIFF- The other option was The Meatles. That is someone else's problem to do Metallica in the style of The Beatles.
Why you decided play only the music of the Beatles and Metallica? JAYMZ - It was really by accident! Myself and our former guitar player were just goofing around with some fun ideas. We only did a handful of songs and our webmaster put them on the internet. It exploded from there and we were asked to do more. And then more. And then more. We never intended to carry anything past a simple fun time…and now here we are… Did you have any legal problems with this? JAYMZ - Oh, God yes…. Still do. It’s so complicated. We have avoided major conflict in the past but people get very freaked out by the whole legal aspect of the band. Metallica and Lars Ulrich have been very supportive and they are always in our corner. Good guys, they are. But the legal issues definitely keep us from doing everything we want to do. Some songs aren’t allowed…some recordings aren’t allowed….videos are a mess… It can be very difficult to get through. Live shows are always ok and we love to showcase the real and true ideas of Beatallica.
How many CD do you have until now? And videos? JAYMZ No videos are allowed…no DVDs either. Again, the legal licensing is tricky. But there are a ton of YouTube things out there and that’s out of our control really. Folks film us live and it shows up on the internet. We have 5 c.d.s out: “Sgt. Hetfield’s Motorbreath Pub Band”, “All You Need is Blood”, “Masterful Mystery Tour”, “Winter Plunderband”, and “Abbey Load”. The “Blood” and “Plunderband” c.d.s are very special and limited pressings. How do you define your music? JAYMZ - Fun. Clever. Creative. One of a kind. Intelligent. Rock and Roll. KLIFF- Getting drunk and having fun In 2004 the band started to play in live in national and international concerts. Thanks to this Beatallica can play with bands as Motorhead, Testament, Slayer, among others. Do you think any time that Beatallica would be able to become in a big band at international level? JAYMZ - Well we have been to Europe 15 times or so. Have played in, hmmm….like 20 different countries in North America, Europe, and Asia. I think that’s pretty good, eh?! We love playing with bands all over the world, that is for sure! KLIFF- I always tell people we are international recording artists who tour worldwide. In our hometown of Milwaukee, that only counts once you move away. Until then everyone considers you a local musician no matter what you have done. Pretty fucked up, really. Your concerts are characterized for the use of visual elements of Beatles and Metallica. This allows that you opened a concert of Dream Theater. How do you remember this experience? JAYMZ - We are still good buds with Mike Portnoy who is now in Winery Dogs and other projects. He is really the Beatles nut and the most fun. We’ve
worked with him several times and it’s all good. Obviously we are nothing like Dream Theater but music ties people together, right? KLIFF- I liked talking with John Petrucci, and hearing his insights on our mutual Mesa Boogie Mark V amp, but I had to set up for the gig and our conversation was cut short. Really tried to rap with John Myung, but I think he is very introspective. As for the gigs, I was always surprised at our good reception, given that our music is so vastly different from Dream Theater. In which other international festivals have been able to participate? With which other bands have played together? JAYMZ - Oh, man, a ton. Other bands are Behemoth, Dark Tranquility, Gamma Ray, Sammy Hagar, Kreator, U.D.O., Jerry Cantrell’s Cardboard Vampires, Within Temptation, Goat Whore…many more. We headline festivals so there are so many bands we have been with. A lot of German, Netherlands, USA, France, Korean festivals…
In Paris Beatallica had the lucky to know Metallica. How do you remember this day? How is the relation whit Metallica? JAYMZ - Again, Metallica has always been really good to us. We have a solid relationship with them both friendly and legally. It’s just really easy and comfortable. Pretty nice considering I met them as a kid and now we have a working relationship together! Hanging out in Paris was great. We’ve had some time in Chicago and Milwaukee as well. KLIFF- It was great meeting them in Paris. We were just two American bands on tour swapping road stories. Not a mega-band dealing with a bunch of heshers. Good guys all around.
Now a days, it is spoken about the problems of the rock and metal scenes, but we have seen as recently are leaving a great numbers of young bands. What does think Beatallica about this? Any of these new bands that Beatallica listen and can recommend us? JAYMZ - Ah hell, the rock and metal scene was very competitive even when I was a kid. That’s too bad. Music should be about appreciating each other, not trying to destroy one another because of pride and ego. It happens at every level and with all sorts of music and art, not just rock and metal. I think the guys in Beatallica are all really good to our fans and other bands we play with…we’ve never had any problems for the most part. As far as newer bands, I like Deafheaven…they are good for those who are into the whole European death metal type sound (though they are American). I love the fact that Carcass is back at it..those guys kill it. KLIFF- My favorite newer bands over the last couple years are France's Adagio; Russian pagan folk metal band Arkona, and I will get a ton of shit for this but recently I have really been getting into Babymetal. At first I wrote them of as kitch, but the band is A+ tight metal, and the singer is spot on, and their shows are pure energy. Thinks Beatallica that Internet is a good platform that helps to that many bands comes out? Or otherwise is a means that harm to this world? JAYMZ - Without the internet, we would be struggling like a lot of bands would. It’s amazing…how did Led Zeppelin do this in 1975?! But remember: once things are on the internet, it’s forever….good or bad…. KLIFF- The Internet opens up the world to the masses, for both weal and woe.
Our country was visited by many rock´s band. In 2005 came Audioslave, in 2008 came Sepultura. This year came The Dead Daisies in February, CJ Ramone in August and ZZ Top on December. The next year will come The Rolling Stones. Have think Beatallica in come to Cuba any time? JAYMZ - I love me some ZZ Top! If Beatallica was invited to Cuba, and it was possible, we would be all over it! You could help me with my Spanish…. KLIFF- Fuck yeah! Let's rock!
Two last questions. How Beatallica see the future of the band? What Beatallica thinks about the future of the rock music in general? JAYMZ - Beatallica’s future always depends on a few things: legal issues, support from fans, and what our own musical schedules are. I play in 4 bands and they are all active (other Irish rock bands and stuff) so it takes time. 2016 has Beatallica playing live and that is great! We are having a really good time at rehearsal and we plan on doing songs in 2016 that have never been performed live…super cool… The future of rock and roll, huh?.... Well it will definitely always be changing. Look at a band like Rush. They started as a blues based band and became a very progressive rock band….then added keyboard heavy songs…a lot of changes. Bands who stick around long enough evolve. Sort of like those guys in the Beatles and Metallica. Many different phases of life. Rock and roll has come a long long way from Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard. But the spirit remains the same. KLIFF- As for our future, as Jaymz says, that depends on too much legal shyte. For rock n roll's future, I think we have hit the post-modern rock era where everything that can be done has been, and new music is derivative of what has gone before. A new instrument needs to be invented for a new musical paradigm. Thanks Beatallica for the opportunity to interview. From the Cuban scene
Okulary arises starting from a project, through which they were experiencing its previous ones integral, the incursion inside the gender Gothemburgo (death Swedish metal or death melodic metal). The same one didn't carry out concerts and in little time it disintegrated. The guitarist of this old project began to undertake a new road in the formation of a new band with new ideas. This way, this way, through an arduous and difficult search, the departure and different young musicians' arrival, the current project was conformed, with the name of Okulary Okulary: Word that comes from the Polish language / Rumanian and it means (glasses, telescope). Metaphorically the band uses it as action premise and conceptual, as motto for: "to have long view", to see beyond our noses", to be able to sight something beyond what it propose us our eyes." Exchanges of advance creative, enriching concepts, diversity of opinions, storm of ideas, but with a common denominator: the necessity of these young musicians to be expressed artistically through the music rock, it have brought the emergence of Okulary as a result; a band that newly begins in the search of an own style, of a chore that defines the artistic interests of their members, keeping in mind the public's demands that it consumes today's rock. Okulary believes its musical compositions, transgressing, in its musical expression, the commonly well-known goods that are framed strictly inside an ingrained concept and not be removed, to move in a slighter way, by way of game or how ludic expression of an experimentation. Okulary doesn't have the intention of being appropriated neither auto named inside a gender or other, simply, it is taking steps in the search of several styles that the according one. As immediate objective they are fusing in each topic musical, several conventional rock goods next to other musical styles, alternating instrumental and sung topics, mixing the melodic thing and the guttural voices in smaller measure, and with an ethnic variety and of ages among their members.
The influences and relating come from bands so dissimilar as (Dream Theater, Children of Bodom, Sirenia, Animals as Leaders, Tesseract, Anima Mundi, etc) Then we can say that the Heavy Metal, the Metal Core, the Black Metal, the Thrash, the Deaht Melodic Metal, the Gothic, the Progressive Rock and the Symphonic Rock, among other, they conform and they represent who is today Okulary: kind of a coalition that comes closer, above all, to our younger public, proposing them that they listen music rock that you/they are not usually accustomed to taste, and for those that are no longer so young, also have the option of being rediscovered with their relating of the expressed past in a different way. It proposes a receiver then well mixed public that it goes from the adolescent that is on the 15 years, to the public that is arriving at their 50. Neither the music that Okulary proposes is only restricted for the rock consumers. People that prefer the pop music, the reggae, all the alternative currents, the jazz, and until the music sauce, they can enjoy Okulary, because it doesn't attack, on the contrary, it diversifies, it doesn't divide sectarianly, on the contrary, it agglutinates. Current integral (current alignment): Sofía Guilarte Reyes (general and Musical Address) (vocalist, guitar leader and rhythmic) Miguel Ángel Moreno Paula (Bass) José Alfredo Mena (Battery) Edisley Moreno (keyboards and instruments of wind) Okulary is founded March 2nd 2013. The first presentation of the band was March of 2013, 2 in the Festival carried out by the group Hypnosis, called "Front Woman" that had place in the current headquarters (square) more important of the rock in Cuba: The theater Maxim Rock. Okulary opened that festival. In that moment they didn't have drummer, and the battery was sequenced. Also, the topics were instrumental, because neither they had vowel. Therefore, this it was not the official presentation of the group. It constituted a test. The musical composition of the topics is assumed by Sofía Guilarte, but the arrangements carry out them among all the members of the group, supported by the composer. This way, the final result of the topics proposes a bigger diversity and wealth for the contributions that offer each one of the musicians. The drum sequenced of most of the topics has been created by Roberto Fernández together with Sofía Guilarte. The drum sequenced of the ballad “Camouflage " was created by Alex Ricardo (current drummer and director of the Cuban group of rock Darkness Fall) also together with Sofía. August of 2013, 2 in the Theater Maxim Rock, invited AD by the group professional Stigma, offered its first concert, which constituted the official presentation of Okulary before the public with all its members.
Okulary has culminated the recording of its first Demo called “The Way", constituted by 7 topics: Álbum “The Way” (2013) Track list 01- Okulary-Intro 02- Okulary-The avery of your abscence 03- Okulary-Camouflage 04- Okulary- Inferno
05- Okulary- The other face (ft. Leonardo Nuevo) 06- Okulary- Imago 07- Okulary- Inside the explosion 08- Okulary- The way to our hopes For the promotion of the same one, they were distributed great quantity of CD during several weekends, in the theater Maxim Rock, to the present public Starting from that moment, Okulary has been invited to several radio programs directed by Carlos Fornés, where the music of the band has been transmitted and it has interviewed to its director, which has referred the history of the grouping and its future and immediate plans. These programs have been: "Escuchar conmigo" (Listen with me), "¡Hola, que tal!" (Hello, what’s up), “Sabarrock", “De Cuba un Disco” (From Cuba a CD). April of 2014, 11 Okulary recorded its first musical program in television: Cuerda Viva, which was transmitted May 11th 2014 by the Educational Channel. June of 2014 Okulary 8 offered a concert in the Maxim Rock invited by the group Magnum, October of 2014 companies of Congregation 18 and December of the invited same year of Combat 13 Noise. In the month of November of the 2014, Okulary was invited to the Festival City Metal in Santa Clara for the Hermanos Saiz Association of that county, organization that contains to all the young talents of the country and the one which it belongs the band. In the 2014, the video of animation of the topic "The other face" was nominated as better Video of Animation, better Band of Rock and better Band Nobel in the program Lucas. Also, the group has been nominated in the 2015 in Alive Rope, being this first participation in the program, in the category of more popular Band and in the program Lucas, with the first video clip of the grouping of the topic "The avery of your absence" of the CD “The Way”. In the 2016 Okulary it has been nominated in the category of Rock Metal of the Festival Alive Rope 2016 Newly Okulary begins. It is a lot to work and to experience. Their musicians will also continue growing in the zeal and development like instrumentalists and I eat group. To continue discovering or rediscovering the art, modifying it, transgressing it or reinventing it, from this postmodern stamp in that we live today, will be the main key that guides the creative intents of Okulary, but it will always have very clear the premise of arriving to who more they can value their work, the one respected public.
By: Alejandro Pérez. During the days 19 and 28 of February took place the 11th edition of the Brutal Fest, this time in their winter edition. After a journey that included the counties of Holguín, Bayamo, Santiago de Cuba, Camagüey, Santa Clara, Havana and Artemisa. Before beginning to elaborate this review, I should make some history and to talk about the Brutal Fest, this event arose in 2011 thanks to an idea of David Chapet together with the Brutal French stamp Beatdown Records. The same one had as objective to bring to our country diverse bands that, in spite of having one career it proliferates, they are not very well-known in our country and in other places. The bands that participate or they have participated in this event they come in their majority of Europe (France, Paris, Finland, Sweden, etc), of United States, Canada and Latin America; and they defend diverse goods like hardcore, post-hardcore, Hobocore, metal - core, mix-core, metal, post-metal, sludge, among other goods. I should say that although I have not attended from the beginning this event, for comments and opinions of those that have attended from the beginning, you that this it is an event that it has gone winning acceptance among the faithful followers of the rock in our island. But it is not on the bands and the origin of this festival on what I will speak. The reason for which I have decided to write this review is to comment here on the realization of this event in Havana, the days 26 and 27. I had the opportunity to attend the two days and I tell them that this edition is not like it was of waiting. Diverse they were the factors, to me to understand that didn't allow that this edition had the impact waited here by the lovers of the rock in the capital. First that everything, the place. As it is known, the headquarters of these events, the Maxim Rock is closed from November for constructive problems. A lot of time! The chosen place here in the capital for the realization of this event was nothing else that the theater Lázaro Peña, the theater of the CTC! Why among so many places to carry out this event, did they in fact have to choose this place? Talking before minutes with several people asks them that they found the idea of carrying out this event in this place and unfortunately the obtained answers were not positive. The Lázaro Peña theater? To who was it happening this idea? Why not the Salon Rosado de la Tropical? were some of the obtained answers and were there until those who mixed the politics in this. In my personal opinion I don't believe that this place
it had been the most appropriate for this, because they exist other places that have been choose, example, the Rosy Living room of The Tropical one, place where they have always been carried out rock concerts, let us remember that here live played The Dead Daisies when they visited our country in February of last year. Another of the factors that I found was the acoustics, because the system of sound of the theater, to my view and that of other people with who conversed, was not the appropriate one for this type of events, because it was heard so low everything that you grieve could listen the voices of the singers. Another of the factors was the little public attendance to the event, I don't know if for the cold that there were the two days or because they didn't like the place where it took place this event. It is worth to highlight the exceptional quality of the present bands, as much the Cubans as the foreigners. Trendkill were for the Cuban part (one of the bands nominated to the Cuerda Viva Festival), Combat Noise (everything one schemes of the metal that always makes us vibrate for all the high one) and Waiting For Nadia (a young hardcore band and post-hardcore who, with their fresh songs and full with energy they make us to sing and to move the neck well), definitively a demonstration that in our country the rock still has a lot of space. For the foreign part, the participant bands were The Prestige (Paris), Birds in Row (France) (who according to words of one of the organizers of this event, this band possesses a trajectory and relevance at world level); the remaining bands were The Butcher's Rodeo (Paris), The Yards (London) and The Canyon Observer (Slovenia); without place to doubts all the bands gave the best thing of yes in the scenario and, with their diverse performances in the scenario made us pass unforgettable moments. It is worth to highlight that this year none of the bands, except The Prestige and The Canyon Observer, distributed its disks to the public, I for luck could keep an original of The Canyon Observer and this way to be able to delight at home with its incredible talent, because I had never heard anything resemblance. But, in spite of all the factors mentioned previously, during two nights we attend this, already concluded, edition of winter of the Brutal Fest that each new edition continues attracting more public with desires of delighting with the rock that it make the bands that participate, because each new edition is always different to the previous one. ยกLET US WAIT THEN THAT THE NEXT EDITION OF THIS EVENT, THE BRUTAL SUMMER FEST, BE AS BRILLIANT AS THIS AND IT MAKES US SQUANDER PURE ADRENALINE THAT IS OF WHAT WE ARE FULL THE LOVERS OF THE ROCK IN CUBA! And as always some members of the participant foreign bands comment me in this event: ยกWE HAD NEVER SEEN A PUBLISHES SO VARIED AND THAT IT WAS LOVER, LIKE THEY YOU ARE THE CUBANS, and OF THE ROCK!
Biography
IN THOUSAND LAKES Band of Death melodic Metal formed in 1995 in Bilbao, they publish the demo “Emotions" in 1996 and the Cd “Lifeless Waters And Forgotten Land” in 1998. The band separates in 1998. Of their activity in direct is necessary soon after to highlight their participation in the festival Barbarian Rock taken place in Sherry in 1998 next to bands like Manowar or Napalm Death and their performance like opened of Cradle Of Filth in the Room Jam of Bergara of the edition of the demo "Emotions". In October of 2013 the band is activated again with Jokin (guitar) and Javi (battery) of the first formation being completed the line-up with José (Voice,) and J (Bass). The band records in September of 2014 the titled EP “Martyrs Of Evolution” with 4 new topics under the production of Jagoba Ormaetxea and cover in charge of Satanik Design. "Martyrs Of Evolution” is published under the stamp Pathologically Explicit Recordings. In May of 2015 Pintxo it occupies bassoonist's position left by J, during the summer of 2015 and after 17 dates of presentation of “Martyrs Of Evolution", the band enters again to the study for the recording of the topic “The Scaffold” a topic that it tries on the witchcraft and of the one that it carry out its first professional video. "The Scaffold” will go included in the album “The Memories That Burn” in the one that it will be able to be the reissue remasterized of the first album of the band published in 1998 Lifeless Waters And Forgotten Land and the demo "Emotions" published in 1996. In October of 2015 it incorporates Igor like second guitarist. "The Memories That Burn” is published again in January of 2016 with the stamp Pathologically Explicit Recordings. Bad News are a Cuban grouping , founded March 11 2012 officially. After more than 18 years of professional career, Pedro René Rodríguez (director and drummer), he decides to create to Bad News with the vision of approaching the gender rock from a passionate and at the same time very professional aesthetics, beginning the process of creation of a repertoire totally own and unpublished. The music of Bad News, moves fundamentally on the Rock ' N Roll, Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, so much in Spanish as in English, offering a proposal that being able to satisfy the likes of its members, it is at the same time more affordable to the public in general, vision this not very approached by most of the rock bands of our country. Their director and drummer Pedro René Rodríguez modernizes us on the chore of the band and his future plans. By : Alejandro Pérez.
First that everything, greetings to the members of Bad News and be welcome to the pages of this magazine. When does the band arise and who are its current members? The band arises in 2012 and by force of sacrifice we could to become in professionals quickly. The current members are: Yordi (voice and rhythmic guitar), Darel (voice and keyboards), Cristian (voice and acoustic guitar), Dayana" Repo" (bass and choirs), Pedro (guitar leader) and a servant, Pedrito (drums, choirs and address). How many CD do you have made up to now? And videos? We have made two Demos: "Bad News that you are glad life" and "With me they won't be able to" that was nominated in Cuerda Viva in two categories; we also have a CD; the 12+1 that it was nominated in the Cubadisco 2014. Videos have two: Tomorrow and Free Ride, more Ready To Run Again that is in production process.
Why is the music of Bad Words characterized? Authenticity in our sound, care of the letters and a scenic projection very rocanrolera, is what has characterized us up to now. We offer whenever it is noticed the sincerity and harmony that one lives in the band in a very amusing environment. In spite of being a young band, you have achieved a wide trajectory that includes appearances in the means, several interviews; so much in Cuban publications as foreigners and you have obtained diverse prizes and recognitions. How is it that they have been able to achieve this in so little time? What does this represent for the band? Surrenders, sacrifice, organization and seriousness. It have almost been 4 very intense years, all that we have achieved up to now has given us a lot of happiness and forces to continue, and we have many new ideas in those that we are already working.
How is your work in the tourist pole of Varadero? How was the welcome that you had on the part of such a diverse and demanding public? The work with the covers is arduous and demanding, but when you decide to take the difficult road that consists on carrying out it without losing your identity like band. This work us to fact to win a lot of experience in little time and we receive constant praises. Truly it has gone us of marvel, but we have always had clear that, in spite of making it with all the seriousness that deserves, the covers they are alone the necessary complement for the very bigger one that is our own music. Sadly many bands have been completely absorbed by this work arriving to the point of practically to disappear.
Where are you presented habitually? Could you have at some time been able to present here in Havana? Habitually we present ourselves in several hotels, but in places with free access: on Wednesdays in the Bar Restaurant The Beatles, all this in Varadero. We wait this year to be able to offer our first concert in Havana. As we know, today in day they are little the fanzines that are in our country, since most has disappeared, for and or another reason. Do they believe that the fanzine plays an important paper in the popularization of the rock, either at national or international level? Do they believe that these publications that are mostly digital should be taken seriously by some institution and to arrive to be distributed in paper so that all they could read them? I have always admired and grateful a lot to the fanzineros and all those that in a way or another promotes and they disclose the rock in Cuba. I know that many fanzines have disappeared, as well as many bands have disappeared and the reasons are practically the same ones. I believe that while they have bands battling there will be fanzines to support them, the times change and there is q to look for alternative, to surrender is not of rockeros. That some institution wants to lean on it is not in our hands, that that if this it is the work but organized, but union. Today in our day small island passed of being prohibited to become the "Sacred Grail" of the big rock bands that will yearn to come to play here. What opinion does it deserve them that our country is the point of aim of these big bands that will want to be presented here? Many generations of rockers suffered the prohibitions a lot, the isolation etc... ..and most thinks that we will die with the desires from seeing to our live idols. It seems that the yearned day it arrived, so either with tears; remembering to the colleagues that didn't arrive, or with tremendous euphoria, we will live this experience like nobody in the world. That the monsters come! At the present time they are several the bands that arise day by day in our country, however little or anything is said on them. The same thing happens with the rock festivals that are carried out indistinctly in several counties. Do they believe that the Cuban Institute of the Music, the Cuban Agency of Rock, the Asociacion Hermanos Saiz and the remaining institutions in charge of carrying out these events, should they give more diffusion to these events so that they are recognized as what it are? I believe that when we sign to make or to diffuse rock in Cuba we knew that the underground will be our natural land and that at least to be able to lean out to the surface will take us a great effort and sacrifice. I have known many bands that continually they complain, but neither have they made anything. Don't I believe that we should wait for any entity so that it takes out us to it floats, do imagine that goods so autochthonous as the danzรณn the chachachรก receives zero diffusions of the means, What will we leave for the rockeros? Now yes, I am of those that he/she believes that everything one can, although it costs the work triple, unless you are of those that enjoy the underground that is also valid.
Today in day they find impossible to our rock bands to consent to the Cuban market, because to the record companies it doesn't interest them to record and to diffuse the music rock. Before this situation, most of the bands record and they publish their disks in an independent way or they look for record companies in other countries. Do you think that this someday it changes and can we find in our market music rock that you/they carry out our bands with so much effort and dedication? Worldwide the record companies spread to disappear, inclusive the big ones find difficult to take out new productions and they look for alternatives to subsist. For us they have never existed so I believe we go a step before je je je. You of bands that have recorded with record in some way smaller Cuban and practically they have made them a little CD in series that neither it sounds to rock n roll like a work of charity, in good Cuban a reverend shit! Better the technology that we have today in hand take advantage and we continue independent, if some day we are able to create an agency that represents us like it should be, that yes it would be welcome, because right now it is something that yes we could have and we don't have. How do you see the future of the music rock in Cuba? Do you think that will arise bands that they offer us good music rock or just the opposite? That of seeing the future is a little complicated, I am still working in my magic ball, jajaja. No, seriously! New bands will always arise, those that have something to contribute and work more seriously they will stay and those that take it as hobby will have their time to be it later to their children’s. That if it is important it is the diversity that is what I see lamer today in day. Future plans? First that everything to subsist as band and that the enthusiasm doesn't die. We are very sleepy to complete: immediately we are working in three video clips, new CD, to insert us of full in the social nets, and also, preparing a crazy work that implies interaction with audiovisual. First that everything, greetings and be welcome to these pages of Metal for your Veins. For me it is a pleasure to be able to carry out this interview. To begin. Why Death Above name? Some special meaning? Good to all! Because the name was something that was about my head from toward time, before forming the band… in a principle it will be Death From Above, but when already having bands with that name, we decide to remove them the " from " and you is in something like that like above the death" When and where the band arises? Who are their current members? The band arises at the end of 2010, starting from the breakup of the old band of Javi (guitar). In that moment Javi decides to join its road with José (battery), to give loose rein to its influences more thrashers, incorporating crossover elements thanks to José's contribution. From that moment original, for the band they have passed many components until arriving to today in day. Right now I believe that the band is sounding but compact that never the truth. Actually the band is conformed by Javitoxic (voices), Javi (guitar and choirs), Adrián (guitar), José Releases (bass and choirs) and Carlos Kato (drummer).
Which have the main influences of the group been when composing their songs? The main ones influence without a doubt they are the thrash metal of final of the 80 and principles of the 90, always decorated with touches of Crossover, Hardcore… anyway we try not to put on many barriers when composing. I had the opportunity to listen the topics of their first CD Attack of the Soul Eaters", and did I like a lot. How you would define Death Above music? Because the music of the first CD is a summary of the first two years of the band… you can appreciate a lot of influence of that original crossover (the one which right now is not so stressed). In the disk we try to capture the same thing that we make in direct, without many artifices and overproduction. The truth is quite happy with the result. Until now you have made the CD "Attack of the Soul Eaters" .How it was the edition process and recording of the same one? Do you have thought to take out another CD later on? Because the disk is totally recorded and produced by ourselves, since in its moment there were no means to finance us a good study. The only thing that if we record in a study it was the batteries, which were recorded in the time record of 4 hours and practically of a single taking. The guitars the first floor and the voices record it in our rehearsal local. We had the luck that he was interested the Ukrainian stamp Dead Center Productions in our work and he made us a co publication, the CD has been able to this way to move for all Europe, even arriving in Japan and to it USES them. With regard to another disk… at the moment we are mixing and masterizated three new songs that it will appear in a Split-up with other three bands… until there I can read at the moment. Do you have the opportunity to participate at some time in some rock festival in their country or outside of this? In festivals we have been able to participate in several, although always inside our islands… it would stress the performance mainly in the Winds of Rock in Great Canaria and in the Goymar Fest last year same year. Big concerts with a lot of public affluence. Future plans? Because at the moment to take out the Split-up that comments you before, to move it all the possible one and to try to leave to play as soon as possible outside of our frontiers. We know that it is complicated but we won't stop to attempt it. If at some time they were given the opportunity to come to Cuba would they make it?
Without a doubt we would accept in going to Cuba if the opportunity was given and the conditions were interesting. First that all, greeting and be welcome to these pages of Metal for your Veins. For me it is a pleasure to be able to carry out this interview. 1. To begin. Why the name of Muert? Some special meaning? Greetings friends from Cuba, here Ebola and MUERT of the Islas Canarias/España. The same pleasure to make know in your beautiful one our island horrible and terrifying music. Good, the name of Muert is simple and direct, such and like I and my partner Guayota wanted, the battery. The meaning is such which what we want to the listener, to express the death in sound way and to also make it possible in visual way. 2. When and where does the band arise? Who are their current members? The band is believed after the "disappearance" of Cryfemal in 2010 for me, Ebola guitars and voices, and for Guayota batteries. The main idea is the one of uniting our forces against wind and gets dizzy to create the word Mayhem in our works. After there the band is buried for always. That is to say, their activity ceases. 3. How would they define the music of Muert? We define it as Canarian Terror Metal. Since we feel proud of our islands, we feel proud of representing to the death and also to the music Metal. 4. Up to now you have two albums "Mysteriorum Prophanationis Sepulcralis" (2011) and "Ahul Xaxo" (2014) and several collaborations with other groups. How was it the edition process and recording of these two CD? Do you have thought to take out another CD later on? Exact it has almost always followed the same steps. I compose the songs and they go us arising ideas for holding and letters. Later on we record batteries, then guitars and under and the last thing is detailed the letters and voices. In the next work, the third CD releases duration it will be different. We seek to compose in the same local in which we rehearse and we work every week. Of this way hopes it is the most direct CD of all and more bestial.
5. Do you have had the opportunity to participate at some time in some rock festival in their country or outside of this? Have you shared the scenario at some time with some international band? We have played in the Pandemia Fest, inside our country. We have also played in the Xtreem Metal Attack Fest of Portugal. We have also played in the Satans Unholy Abominations of U.S.A. we have also left tour for almost all Europe. And soon we play in a festival in U.S.A again and another in Berlin called Under the Black Sun, where we will share scenario with his countrymen Narbeleth of Cuba. 6. Future plans? Our next objective is to give some good next concerts and to take out our third long duration. Since shortly also we hope to take out our second Split-up in vinyl. 7. If at some time you were given the opportunity to come to Cuba would you make it? Satisfaction in Havana for announcement of Rolling Stones The mythical band The Rolling Stones will play for the first time in Cuba the next one March 25, with a great gratuitous concert in the Sport City of Havana, it confirmed this Tuesday the own British group in its page web and the news delighted many followers of the metal in the Antillean nation. For the first time in the history, the Rolling will take the Caribbean their music and their performance of high karats, the combined native from London announced. Preparing scenario of The Rolling Stones in Havana The concert will begin at 8 o'clock: 30 p.m., it will extend during two hours and 15 minutes and it will be gratuitous for all those that attend the sport complex, so much Cuban as foreigners. By: Michel Hernández Pictures: Yaimí Ravelo The scenario of the historical concert of The Rolling Stones on Friday 25 of March it already began to get up in the lands the Sport City, where there will be space it stops more than 400 000 people, told to Granma newspaper Osmani López Castro, vice-president of the Cuban Institute of the Music (ICM). Although in their beginnings they experienced with the death metal and the black metal, today finally, they have found a road where they take advantage of all those experiences and of the one that looks like each other they won't separate. The grouping has been able to conform three CD to topics of its creation and some covers to strange bands that are its relating ones and that they move inside the same style. The first of their productions was Christ of Hate that saw the light in 2012, and the second that now occupies us, it was carried out in the year 2013 and they titled it I keep your cadaver. It continues him the demo Marrano Tour, of the 2014, to which we will dedicate him a later review. I keep your cadaver, of course, it is an independent production that the boys of Dark recorded in the particular study Blade Records, located in Cabaiguán and in charge of Yuliader. The CD is conformed by seven topics, two of those which are short versions, with some that another musical arrangement at two of its own songs: "Juan of the Deads" and "Your meat". The CD is a non conventional production as the own style of the band that contains a series of elements that places them inside the porno grind, although the persistence of elements of the death metal has taken to that its members prefer car to be framed in the porno gore-grind. The reflective production, without doubts, the linking of Obscuro to all these variants and subgenus. In her they introduce in a recurrent way, seemingly real effects that identify murders or cries that are supplemented with guttural voices and brief texts. The black humor is the key of this delivery that opens up with the topic titled "Morgue". “Morgue" breaks up with a double drummer to the heavy metal that announces the presence of this resource along the whole production. The central idea is the death, this time taking as starting point the loss of the capacities of the human body and I as colophon the cliché, many times used mainly in the cinematography and in the music: the sound of the team that monitoring the heart cycle and the heart stopped classic. "Planting cadavers" on the other hand begins with a fragment of the murder of The Chango that denotes the influence of the Mexican bands in the compositions of Obscuro. On the other hand, "Your meat” begins with the victim's supplication, followed by insults rushed by an executioner that the flame, among other insults, drug addict. The song embraces around six minutes of the CD, and it is the most
extensive in the production, while its letter is brief. Basically, expressed the desire of a cannibal to feed with urgency. The refrain is hungry of your meat it is accompanied of the cry of a pig that at once causes the question: who is here the pig, the victim or the executioner? They go this way knitting the humor black present along the delivery. "Juan of the Deads" is maybe the topic that betters it shows it. Here they take advantage of the parliament of the homonymous movie, where the main character says "I am Juan of the Deads we kill her dear beings", and subsequently, they break up with a sound and own letter. They describe the weapons with which Juan could kill to your family for single 30 cents, and also, to cut him his heads. Evidently, it is the most ironic song in the disk and during the promotion in concerts and festivals; it has been that of better acceptance on the part of the public. The CD is a production, in general, brave. It breaks all the artistic canons that could be preconceived by some critic. Review of the CD “The Road Is Open� of Black Desert Artist: Black Desert. CD: The Road is Open.
Black Desert is a riojana formation been founded in 2012 by Angel Agüera (guitar) and Isabel Bermejo (voice) who managed them to publish in 2013 a titled album The Beginning. Then, they began the search of new components to give form to the band and the little time they were added Pablo Shields (battery), Luisma Hernández (keyboards), Filippo Giumento (bass) and Guillermo Corredor (guitar). Both last they left the group and they were replaced respectively by Gabriel Valcázar and Claudio Navo. Once stabilized the formation, at the end of 2015 published its second titled album The Road Is Open, a work taken place by Sander Gommans, guitarist and member founder of After Forever, wrapped in dark sonorities and dense atmospheres. It is a recording in that Isabel's work prevails which voice dominates wide moments, subordinating the instrumentation to its figure, like it is patent, mainly, in “Dreams Of Glycerine (Part II)", but also in “Something Real” and “The Road Is Open." Some songs have a bigger implication of the instrumentals parts, protagonist with Isabel, as the initial "Demons", with a recurrent riff and a consistent base rhythmic, same focus that we find in Red Hour", here with the inclusion of certain elements of oriental origin that it add an exoticism bonus to their matter proposal. To those that one can add “64 Bones", one of the most intense topics in the album. It closes the CD another piece of oriental landscapes as “Seduced by the Sand." GUITARIST SLASH WAS CAPTURED WITH EVIDENT RISE OF WEIGHT To two months of their return to the scenarios next to Guns N' Roses, the British-American guitarist Slash was captured with an evident rise of weight. New CD of Killswitch Engage This month Killswitch Engage “Incarnate", seventh album of their career and second that record after their original vocalist's turn, Jesse Leach will rush. After having reconnected thanks to a long world tour, the metal core band goes for all. Although Killswitch Engage lived its biggest years of popularity with Howard Jones to the front, for many fans the best CD that had never recorded the group of Massachusetts continued being “Alive Or Just Breaking 2002”.
