Looking back at the last two years 2014 & 2015, it’s with great pride that I can say that it’s been an incredible couple of years. When I made the decision to bring a web festival to Canada in 2013, my vision was to focus on how I can bring to you, the creators and your teams, a festival that will honour your hard work and dedication and give back to you what you all deserve. I am very proud to say that Vancouver Web Fest is growing at an extremely rapid pace and it gets better and better every year thanks to all past and present attendees and those supporters who couldn’t make it in person but are here in spirit. I am certain that VWF2017 is going to be even bigger, better & more amazing and I’m looking forward to sharing it with all of you.

This past year has come and gone so fast and the astounding support and reviews we received from around the world after our 2015’s 3-day event was heartwarming and has made me extremely proud and honoured of our festival. Vancouver Web Fest – Canada’s Premier International Digital Series Festival - has proven to be one of the top International Web Festivals worldwide and I, along with my amazing and wonderful team, will continue to strive for excellence. We will be presenting several workshops specifically addressing some of the challenges of digital production, and the best practices for taking advantage of the latest advancements in technology. There will also be screenings, panels, keynote speakers, parties and awards ceremony & gala. This year is an exceptional year for our awards show. I am honoured to share with you that our VWF2016 trophies are a one-of-a-kind custom design by SWAROVSKI of Austria and graciously sponsored by Sparkling Hill Resort & Spa (Vernon, BC) and owner Mr. Gernot Langes-Swarovski. In the Name of Science USA / Animation Sacrificed is a Fusion original web series in which we share the stories of scientists so passionate about their research, they use themselves as human guinea pigs, subjecting their bodies to dangerous conditions and diseases in a valiant (though sometimes misguided) search for the truth.

Shorts About Giants Argentina / Animation Micro animated episodes about the life of the directors, making use of different animation techniques to represent the typical aesthetics of movies in each audiovisual artist.
Sìsara Italy / Mystery/Thriller Nicola Spadaro is the most powerful lawyer in Italy. Nothing and no one has ever succeeded in foiling the misdeeds of Nicola until now, but the encounter with Michele, practicing lawyer of 30 years, will prove to be a boomerang from the very dangerous consequences. Thanks to the skills of the investigator Valente and political power of the Monsignor Nobili, Nicola will attempt to drive the life of Michele, but the obsessions, you know, never lead to anything good.

Stories of Youth (A Portrait of a Generation) Norway / Documentary “Stories of Youth - A Portrait of a Generation” is a multimedia portrait of an entire generation of young people from all over Norway in the years after July 22, 2011: the date when Anders Behring Breivik killed 62 youths on a summer camp.

USA / Documentary Street Cuts is a web series that follows celebrity stylist Mark Bustos as he hits the streets of South Beach to meet and give a free haircut to the homeless. Mark’s goal is simple: to inspire viewers to #BeAwesomeToSomebody.

The First Musketeer United Kingdom / Action/Adventure “The First Musketeer” is a new, original series based on “The Three Musketeers” by Alexandre Dumas. It’s a prequel story, set in 1619, six years before D’Artagnan arrives in Paris. Using a combination of Dumas’ writing and real historical events, it tells the tale of the young Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, exploring how they met, the trials and tribulations they endured, and how they grew to become the heroes we know and love.
The Impossibilities USA / Comedy The Impossibilities is an original comedy that follows Harry, a jaded children’s party magician, and Willa, a daffy lesbian yogi. In the first season, Willa struggles with an open relationship, hangs with an ex who is now transgender, and desperately tries and fails to do well at her new job as a yoga instructor. Harry works as a children’s party magician, reconnects with his eighty year old magician mentor, and struggles with the choices he made in a past relationship.

The Kino-Edwards Picture Show USA / Fantasy An anthology web series that re-creates iconic Hollywood movie scenes. In my living room. Using whatever props and costumes I have lying around. All roles have been recast with women playing the (always juicier) men’s roles -- as a comment on gender tropes in classic Hollywood cinema and how those shine a light on a changing America today, but also because it’s really fun. The genre of the original films have been changed (to match the costumes and props on hand).
The Rolling Soldier USA / Mystery/Thriller During a deadly mission in Afghanistan, CIA Black Ops assassin Connor Flynn discovers secret footage of illegal operations that he and his team have taken part in. Taking matters into his own hands, he steals the footage and hides it. While attempting to escape Afghanistan, Connor is injured in an IED attack and gets knocked into a coma. He wakes up from the coma and finds himself back in the United States only to discover he is in hiding and on the run from the shadow government he once loyally served.
The Story of Cancer USA / Documentary Rather than becoming mired in the sadness and grief so commonly associated with the cancer experience, The Story of Cancer shorts series showcases the intimate, irreverent and sometimes funny stories of survivors, caregiver and researchers.
