Dear Friends Easter and St Patrick's day have come and gone and we share our pictures of how they were celebrated in Accra. This month we have May Day to look forward to and of course Mother's Day which will fall on May 13. Mother's Day is an opportunity for children to please their mother with a card or gift or maybe an outing and you will definitely find some thrilling ideas in your favourite magazine. We attended several social events this month including Virgin Atlantic's second anniversary in Ghana which was brilliantly organised by Tosan Woode and her team We also dropped in to the launch of the new Tom Ford fragrance range, which is now available at Paris 2 and Fifth Avenue. The Francophonie fortnight was a melting pot of culture and entertainment and member countries, including Ghana, honoured the celebrations with a hitherto never seen strong political presence which included H.E Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni, Minister for Foreign Affairs and H.E Hanna Tetteh, Minister for Trade and Industry. Google Ghana's County Manager, Estelle Akofio-Sowah, held a workshop which brought together a cross selection of ghanaian society to explore new developments in the Google World. Sporting Enjoy brings you pictures of the Premiership Cup when it visited Chase restaurant with ex Man Utd player, Andrew Cole. We introduce, SOCIAL CLUB, a new extra from our resident journo, Alain. He will be leading you around the country in a quest to discover the best bars, restaurants and spots with CLUB Beer. ....Enjoy

Mothers day
EN J OY
Who lov'd to see me pleased and gay, And taught me sweetly how to play, And minded all I had to say? My Mother.
Who ran to help me when I fell.
And would some pretty story tell. Or kiss the place and make it well? My Mother.
Who taught my infant
heart to pray, And love God's holy book and day; And taught me wisdom's pleasant way? My Mother.
And can I ever cease to be Affectionate and kind to thee, Who was so very kind to me, My Mother? Ah, no! the thought I cannot bear, And if God please my life to spare, I hope I shall reward thy care, My Mother.
My Mother By : anonymous
Who fed me from her gentle breast,
And when I see thee hang thy head, 'Twill be my turn to watch thy bed, And tears of sweet affection shed, My Mother.
When sleep forsook my open eyes,
For God, who lives above the skies, Would look with vengeance in his eyes, If I should ever dare despise My Mother.
And hush'd me in her arms to rest, And on my cheek sweet kisses pressed? My Mother. Who was it sung sweet lullaby, And soothed me that I should not cry? My Mother.
Who sat and watch'd my infant head, When sleeping on my cozy bed; And tears of sweet affection shed? My Mother.

The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over 1000 years. On St Patrick’s Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of
St Patrick was born in Roman Britain to a wealthy family but was kidnapped and brought to Ireland as a slave at the age of 16. He was told by God in a dream to flee from captivity to the coast, where he would board a ship and return to Britain. After his escape, he studied to become a priest. In 432, he was called back to Ireland as a bishop, to christianize the Irish from their native polytheism.
aint Patrick’s Day (a.k.a. St. Paddy’s Day) is an annual cultural and religious holiday celebrated on the 17th of March. It commemorates Saint Patrick, the most commonly recognized of the patron saints and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland.

Irish folklore tells that one of his teaching methods included using the 3 leaves of a native Irish clover, the shamrock, to explain the Christian doctrine of the Trinity to the pagan Irish. This is why on St Patrick’s Day, people dress up in green clothing, ribbons and shamrocks. St Patrick’s Day, now an international celebration is celebrated worldwide.

We are pleased to bring you some pictures of one of the many St Patrick’s Day events celebrated in Accra. A party held by Patrice Annequin at his residence. Guests painted the traditional shamrock on the walls and as you can see above wined, dined, laughed and danced the night away, in true Irish style. e

Story Time:
The Tale Of The Princesses Their Outrageous Uncle Will
&
by Roshani Moorjani
O
nce upon a time in Far Away Land, there lived a King and Queen who had three daughters: Shania, Soraya and Sarina. They all lived happily in a beautiful palace. Despite their wealth and power, the princesses were taught to be kind and treat their elders with respect and even though they had all servants working for them, they were always very sweet and polite.
Roshani is a Lower Sixth former of GIS and excels in Art, Economics, French and Literature.
One day, the queen’s mother fell very ill and requested that the King and Queen come to visit her. They made preparations to leave and left the Kingdom in the hands of the King’s brother, William, a very mean man, who was better at being a sour puss than at being a King. One time, William told the cook to roast a turkey but later changed his mind without telling the cook. When the cook served the turkey that evening, William got angry and threatened to behead him. The poor cook was devastated and on the verge of tears. On seeing this, Sarina comforted him and asked to be served some turkey. The cook lost his frown and served the meal, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

First, while eating their breakfast, they said to the cook, “Thank you for our breakfast. It’s really good!” As William watched his nieces’ polite behavior, he felt awkward and uneasy that he had never said anything nice to the cook. Later on, the girls offered to help the butler with his chores. When William saw his nieces dusting furniture and laughing with the butler, he felt a wave of anger and jealousy overcome him, because they were never that happy with him. He sent the princesses to their room and screamed at the butler. That night, William didn’t join the girls for dinner, feeling
“I’m so sorry girls. I’ve been horrible for these past few weeks. I can’t imagine what you all must think of me. I should be the ideal role model for you three. Instead I’ve been disrespectful, ungrateful and such a killjoy.”
very apologetic, he knocked on the princesses’ door and chanted his apology. “I’m so sorry girls. I’ve been horrible for these past few weeks. I can’t imagine what you all must think of me. I should be the ideal role model for you three. Instead I’ve been disrespectful, ungrateful and such a killjoy. I’m sure you three will make wonderful queens of Far Away Land. I hope you can forgive me and give me another chance. I’d very much like to be your favorite uncle.” Shania spoke up first: “You’re our only uncle, Uncle Will! That automatically makes you our favorite!” And with that, they all laughed and hugged him, with the past events already forgotten. The next day, the King and Queen returned to Far Away Land, along with the princesses’ grandmother, who had recovered quickly. The girls kept the secret of Uncle Will’s behavior. They only told the story to their children and the lesson was passed down to many more. You should always be nice and polite to everybody; but if you’ve forgotten how to, just ask a little boy or girl to show you. They’d be more than happy to oblige. e

Ingredients » » » » »
1 papaya or mango » 2 navel oranges 1 cup strawberries » 3 tablespoons honey 2 kiwis » 1 cup raspberries or blueberries 1 banana » 3 to 5 sprigs fresh mint 1 tablespoon Grand Marnier, optional
Directions Peel, slice and dice the mango or papaya, banana, kiwi. Trim the strawberries' stems and half or quarter them. Put everything in a medium size bowl. Cut the top and bottom off the oranges just deep enough to expose the inner fruit. Following the curve of the fruit cut the skin and pith off the orange in panels. Holding the orange over the bowl cut between the membranes to free the citrus segments. Let them fall into the bowl as they are cut free. By hand, squeeze all the juice from the remaining membrane over the fruit, then discard. Repeat with the other orange. Lightly stir the honey and Grand Marnier, if using, into the fruit. Strip the mint leaves off the stem, tear, or chop into smaller pieces, and stir into the fruit salad. Add the berries and set aside for 10 minutes or up to 2 hours. Serve.

Gemini
21/3-20/04
21/4-21/05
22/5-21/06
Slowly but surely in April, you'll enjoy considerable more clarity and confidence, dear Aries. Your drive is returning full force, and friends will enjoy that you're more interested in socializing this month. Personal revelations can come around the Full Moon on the 6th. Some of you will be pursuing relationships more heartily now. Certainly, you have some admirers this month. After the 15th, when setbacks can discourage, you begin to see the rewards for your work efforts in the past few months. The 22-23 can bring a new friendship or alliance. Finances are strong.
You're likely working very hard this month to make extra cash, dear Taurus. The desire for beautiful and comfortable objects is strong. You're building up your resources and your "nest" in April, while for the most part keeping a low profile by choice. The 21st, however, brings a blast of personal energy and increased confidence. You're ready to pursue your desires. A love relationship may be revived and moving forward in the last week of the month. Nevertheless, there are a few lingering problems to iron out, and you'll need to be patient.
This month, you're enjoying extra attention and appreciation for the very qualities that come most naturally to you, dear Gemini. This is due to Venus, the goddess of love, moving through your sign from the 3rd forward. Increased social, romantic, and creative activity is likely, especially around the 6-8 and 22nd. New friendships can be formed this month. More clarity comes to your career this month, as projects that were previously stalled push forward, and to your life with family and domestic matters in the last week of April.

22/12-20/01
Career goals are in focus this month, dear Cancer. Daily affairs become less muddled and overwhelming, and this frees you up to tend to more worldly goals. Your original ideas can capture the attention of higher-ups. Don't be afraid to express them. Unexpected professional opportunities pop up. Be sure to reconnect and stay in touch with acquaintances and relatives in April. Make up for lost time. Friendships enliven from the 21st forward. Love has a private feel to it this month. You're not yet ready to share your feelings with the world.
April is a relationship-centered month, dear Libra. A Full Moon in your sign heightens your emotions and could bring a partnership matter to light around the 6th. Relationships become clearer, both with a partner and in your work, after mid-month. You feel you have more information with which to make good decisions. As well, you are more willing to broaden your perceptions of the people in your life. Cultural events and other forms of learning and experience appeal this month. The 21-23 brings good energy for money matters.
Considerable progress can be made around the home, with family, and at work in April, dear Capricorn. However, when it comes to work, it's more about your working environment and the social aspect of your job that are set to improve significantly. This could be a time when you pursue a bit of a home "makeover". You take pleasure in lending a hand to others and organizing your work space. The 21st forward is a period that brings a more outgoing, playful, and creative energy to your life and, for some, budding romance.

People you meet this month are likely to be a source of inspiration, dear Leo. You're being exposed to different ways of thinking and you especially enjoy exchanging ideas with others. Unexpected opportunities to travel or expand your education can emerge. Love is enhanced through shared goals and visions. Single Leos may find romance with or through a friend or group association. Mid-month, you begin to see progress with finances and money-making endeavors. Career matters push forward suddenly from the 21st. You're taking charge and others are following your lead.
Work takes center stage in April, dear Scorpio, and there are some surprises in store. Be prepared to rearrange your schedule at a moment's notice. It's a strong month for solving problems, reorganizing, and tending to the practical details of your daily existence. Both physical and mental resistance are on the increase this month. Friendships begin to straighten out mid-month after a period of some confusion of boundaries. You're learning who is truly in your corner. Strong energy for attracting or enhancing a partnership is with you from the 21st forward.
April is a strong month for social, creative, and learning endeavors, dear Aquarius. Love is simpler, and attraction is easy and natural. You are expressing yourself with extra charm. Your eagerness, flexibility, and willingness to tag along with others just for the company endear you to friends and family. Financial complexities begin to unravel this month. Dealings with a partner and with financial institutions become more straightforward after a feeling of treading water. Even so, it's not yet the time for quick settlements or bold moves. Be patient.

20/02-20/03
Recent relationship challenges and personal frustrations will begin to dissipate this month, dear Virgo, and you can more confidently move your plans forward. Finances are a big focus and possibly a concern, as you face problems and find ways to improve your spending and borrowing habits. You might receive good advice or come up with novel new ideas on how to do so. The 22-23 can bring a pleasant surprise or bonus. Career prospects and your reputation improve considerably after the first week of April, due in part to a more inviting and amenable manner.
Excitement on romantic and creative levels is in store for you this month, dear Sagittarius. Love matters may be laced with a touch of drama, and certainly bring surprise to your life. More clarity in your love life begins to show itself from mid-month forward. People you meet are especially helpful and appealing. While pastimes, hobbies, and entertainment are in strong focus in the first few weeks of the month, it's back to business by the 21st. Career picks up pace, and it becomes easier to get straight answers from bosses and co-workers.
Dealing with others in a straightforward manner has been difficult recently, dear Pisces. Support for your personal endeavors hasn't been very forthcoming, but by mid-April, relationship dynamics smooth over and you feel that you can move forward. Home life should be especially pleasant. Focus is on beautifying your surroundings and bringing harmony to family relationships. Familiarity rather than excitement is sought in love. Financial surprises are likely in April. You may have to rework a moneymaking idea or your budget, but the improvements will take you further in the long run.

INFLUENCE “Think twice before you speak, because your words and influence will plant the seed of either success or failure in the mind of another” -Napoleon Hill
“Many define integrity as something you keep toward other people, but the most important person you need to have integrity with is yourself.”
W
hat do Nelson Mandela, Charles Darwin, Adolf Hitler, Kwame Nkrumah, Mahatma Gandhi and Vladimir Lenin have in common? Each of them is among the most influential people in the 20th century. We do not have to like ‘what’ their influence was. Each of these people influenced millions of people to do as they envisioned and directed. The key point here is influence is powerful. The same qualities and charisma that can influence humanity to enlightenment can cause destruction and great inhumanity. It is critically important to know that at all
times we are influencing the people around us. As we enter a room, mix with a group we are either bringing enlightenment, brightening their world or we are bringing destruction, darkening their world. As ‘energetic beings’ we are always affecting the environment and people around us. As human beings, we come to understand ourselves through our connection and contrast to other human beings, which mean that our affect on others is truly life changing! Many define integrity as something you have toward other people, but the most important person you need to have integrity with is yourself. Influence has very little to do with what you say and more to do with ‘who’ you are! It is through doing and being that you influence people. How you show up, interact; respond,
etc., will have a lasting influence upon those with whom you are interacting. People are always watching, they may not be listening, but they are watching, be cognizant of ‘who’ you are and ‘how’ you show up, how you represent yourself. If you want to be a person of positive influence, bring your best to every encounter and do your best in everything you do. Your presence in a room, your presence in someone’s life, has great power, great influence. Use it for enlightenment, use it for empowerment, use it for encouragement, and use it to make a positive difference in the world around you. As Mahatma Gandhi said, “be the change you want to see in the world”. e

TIPS
Eat while you drink It is particularly good to eat high protein foods such as cheese and peanuts, which help to slow the absorption of alcohol into the circulatory system.
Cultivate taste Enjoy your drink, don’t rush it. If you gulp a drink you will be losing the pleasure of tasting and smelling the various flavors in the drink.
Accept a drink only when you really want one At a party if someone is trying to force another drink on you, ask for ice or drink a non-alcoholic beverage.
Know your limit Skip a drink now and then Space your alcoholic drinks out to keep the desired blood alcohol concentration.
Appoint a designated driver Have someone available who will not be drinking and will drive all drinkers home. This is critical if the person has consumed more than one drink per hour. If you know that you will have to drive after consuming alcohol, limit your consumption to no more than one drink an hour.
