Dear Friends This month it is a privilege to bring you history in the making in the form of the inauguration of the statue of the late Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah at the African Union in Ethiopia. We also share with you our seventh Independence Day celebration as a magazine. We wish eternal joy, peace and prosperity to the Ghanaian people and our motherland, not to forget all the other nationalities and people who live and share in the daily life of this land of ours, its joys, sorrows and hopes. For it is by sharing these experiences that we can understand ourselves, know ourselves and live together. Long live life, long live Ghana. Ghana is gearing up for elections in December; we were at the International Conference Centre at the invitation of the Ministry of Information and the Swiss Embassy to watch the premiere of "An African Election", a documentary by director Jarreth Merz. Watch out it will hit your neighborhood soon. Accra is buzzing with activities this month. We urge you to visit the the circus which is currently in town with tigers, snakes, dancers and acrobats. We were there and it was a fantastic show. Visit Alliance Française as they celebrate Francophone week from the 16th of March; the events lined up include concerts, theatre and a job fair. Check out the event calendar for other activities in and around the country or visit our new website which provides you in real time information about events in around Ghana. ....Enjoy Don’t forget you can also read the magazine online at: www.enjoyaccra.com

AU HONOURS OSAGYEFO Dr. KWAME NKRUMAH “There is a particular poignancy to the history of Ghana because it was the pioneer. Kwame Nkrumah was more than a political leader; he was a prophet of independence, of anti-imperialism, of Pan-Africanism. His oftquoted phrase ‘Seek ye first the political kingdom’ was not just a call for Ghanaians to demand a voice in the affairs of state, but a plea for leaders and ordinary citizens to use power for a purpose – to transform a colonized society into a dynamic and prosperous land of opportunity.” Cooper.

n Saturday January 28 2012, the AU gathered at the African Union Conference Centre to unveil a magnificent statue in honour of one of the continent's illustrious sons, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, first President of Ghana, for his contribution to the African continent. The unveiling ceremony formed part of an elaborate program to inaugurate the new AU Conference Centre and Office Complex in Ethiopia donated to the African Union by the Chinese Government and was unveiled by Ghana’s sitting President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills. 6

Jerry John Rawlings, also of Ghana as well as other heads of state and governments. Dr Ping paid glowing tribute to Dr Nkrumah for his vision for Africa, saying the need to honour him was long overdue whilst Professor Nkrumah described the occasion as a great honour to the Nkrumah family, the people of Ghana and Africa as a whole. We bring you these excerpts of the special moment. e

“Countrymen, the task ahead is great indeed, and heavy is the responsibility; and yet it is a noble and glorious challenge - a challenge which calls for the courage to dream, the courage to believe, the courage to dare, the courage to do, the courage to envision, the courage to fight, the courage to work, the courage to achieve - to achieve the highest excellencies and the fullest greatness of man. Greek Yoghurt Vs Regular Yoghurt Writen by, Dr. Angel Chambers CEO of DeYale Sports Centre / Contact: +233 307020098 www.deyale.com

“Remember, however, that both types of yoghurt can contain high amounts of carbs if they're sweetened with sugar or another sweetening agent.”

G

reek yoghurt is gaining in popularity as this exotic option has elbowed its way onto refrigerator shelves everywhere. But is it healthier than its conventional counterpart? Here's a closer look at how the two stack up nutrition-wise.

ProteiN: Greek yoghurt is high in protein, which helps promote fullness. A typical 6-ounce serving contains 15 to 20 grams, the amount in 2 to 3 ounces of lean meat. An identical serving of regular yoghurt, on the other hand, provides just 9 grams, meaning you may feel hunger pangs sooner. Carbohydrates: Going Greek is a smart choice for lowcarb dieters. It contains roughly half the carbs as the regular kind—5 to 8 grams per serving compared with 13 to 17. Plus, the straining process removes some of the milk sugar, lactose, making Greek yoghurt less likely to upset the lactose-intolerant. Remember, however, that both types of yoghurt can contain high amounts of carbs if they're sweetened with sugar or another sweetening agent. So always opt for yoghurt with less added sugar. Fat: Be wary of Greek yoghurt's fat content. In just 7 ounces, Fage's full-fat Greek yoghurt packs 16 grams of saturated fat—or 80 percent of your total daily allowance if you're on a 2,000-calorie diet. Danone's regular full-fat yoghurt has 5 grams of saturated fat in an 8-ounce serving. Saturated fat raises total and "bad" LDL cholesterol levels, increasing the risk for heart disease. Read nutrition labels carefully. If you're going Greek, stick to low-fat and fat-free versions. Sodium: A serving of Greek yoghurt averages 50 milligrams

of sodium—about half the amount in most brands of the regular kind. (Low-sodium versions of regular yogurt are available.) Too much salt can boost blood pressure and increase the risk of other heart problems.

Calcium: A 6-ounce cup of regular yoghurt provides 30 percent of the recommended daily amount. Greek yoghurt loses some of its calcium through the straining process, but still packs 20 percent of the daily recommendations. So there it is! Greek yoghurt does have more nutritional benefits. However, don’t give up on regular yoghurt just yet. Both variations provide certain bacteria that can help the digestive tract. Also, yoghurt is overall a great food for weight loss by keeping you full on fewer calories. e 20

Story Time:

The Old Lady & The Fairy Tulips

O

nce upon a time there was a old woman who lived in a little house. She had in her garden a bed of beautiful tulips.

One night she was awoken by the sounds of sweet singing and of babies laughing. She looked out of the window. The sounds seemed to come from the tulip bed, but she could see nothing. The next morning she walked among her flowers, but there was no sign of anyone having been there the night before. T he following night she was again awoken by sweet singing and babies laughing. She rose and stole softly through her garden. The moon was shining brightly on the tulip bed, and the flowers were swaying to and fro. The old woman looked closely and saw, standing by each tulip, a little Fairy mother who was crooning and rocking the flower like a cradle, while in each tulip-cup lay a little Fairy baby laughing and playing. 36

Easter for kids

The good old woman stole quietly back to her house, and from that time on she never picked a tulip, nor did she allow her neighbors to touch the flowers. The tulips grew daily brighter in colour and larger in size, and they gave out a delicious perfume. They bloomed all year round and every night the little Fairy mothers caressed their babies and rocked them to sleep in the flower-cups. When the good old woman died and the tulip-bed was torn up by her folks who did not know about the Fairies and parsley was planted. But the parsley withered as did all the other plants in the garden, and from that time nothing would grow there. But the old woman's grave grew beautifully, for the Fairies sang above it, and kept it green; while on the grave and all around it there sprang up tulips, daffodils, and violets, and other lovely flowers of spring. As children, it is good to treat flowers with care because they make our environments beautiful. e

The Carnival Of Rio

T

he Carnival of Brazil is an annual festival held forty-six days before Easter. On certain days of Lent, Roman Catholics and some other Christians traditionally abstained from the consumption of meat and poultry, hence the term "carnival," from carnelevare, " that means to remove meat."

Carnival

Carnival has its roots in the pagan festival of Saturnalia, which was adopted and adapted by Christianity. It is a farewell to bad things in a season of religious discipline to practice repentance and prepare for Christ's death and resurrection. Rhythm, participation, and costumes vary from one region of Brazil to another. In the southeastern cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, huge organized parades are led by samba schools. Those official parades are meant to be watched by the public, while minor parades known as "blocos" allowing public participation can be found in other cities.

The northeastern cities of Salvador, Porto Seguro and Recife have organized groups parading through streets, and the public interacts directly with them. This carnival is influenced by African-Brazilian culture. It's a six-day party where crowds follow the trios elétricos through the city streets, dancing and singing. Enjoy March 2012

This Month Aries

Famous Aries : CĂŠline Dion BORN: MARCH 30, 1968 - CHARLEMAGNE, QUEBEC, CANADA

CĂŠline comes from a large musical family - 14 kids in all. Her Aries Sun gives her the strength and ambition she needs to make it in the competitive world of professional singing. She loves to get things going and has a long-running show in Las Vegas, thanks to her endless Aries energy. With her Mercury - the planet of communication - in emotional Pisces, it is easy to see why millions worldwide love her heartfelt music.

Famous Aries : Matthew Broderick BORN: MARCH 21, 1962 - NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, USA

Matthew's most famous character may very well be that of the title character in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, but as an ambitious Aries with his Moon in balanced Libra, he's taken on a wide range of roles, including those in movies like Godzilla, voice work in The Lion King, and stage productions like The Producers. His Venus is also in strong, driven Aries, which means he works hard at making his marriage to Sarah Jessica Parker as successful as his career.

Taurus

Gemini

21/3-20/04

21/4-21/05

22/5-21/06

Work may be piling up this month, dear Aries, largely because you are putting much energy into fixing problems and revising old work. However, opportunities abound for you to increase your income. Ideas may be best left in the incubation stage. You're more likely to find success if you wait to launch new projects later, as all of the details are not yet clear. The 12-14 can bring a discovery of a lost resource or the re-emerging of someone from your past. The 22nd brings a feeling of emotional renewal.

The month can bring great personal opportunities, dear Taurus. Personal popularity, especially with friends, runs high. The 12-14 can bring successful social events, travel opportunities, and special announcements. Your thinking is long term and you are craving a sense of permanency. Nevertheless, you have some adjustments to make in your love relationships and/or relationships with children. Revelations regarding these matters occur around the Full Moon on the 8th. You'll be longing for more down time and solitude in the last week of March. Listen to inner signals and get extra rest.

You begin March at a yearly career peak, dear Gemini. You may not know the direction in which you are headed just now, but you are certainly bringing more creativity and spunk to the professional table. From the 12th forward, take greater care when communicating your observations and needs. Make your true intentions known in order to minimize misunderstandings. While your love life is becoming more private and may involve some personal sacrifices in March, mid-month brings strong energy for attraction and possibly the revival of an old relationship.

22/6-23/07

24/9-23/10

22/12-20/01

Love and friendship are tied together in wonderful ways this month, dear Cancer. Cementing a bond with a friend or love interest may be tricky, and might require a pledge to live in the moment, but rewarding. Nevertheless, communication mix-ups are probable this month. Aim to be especially clear or to sidestep making decisions until you are ready. Don't commit unless you are certain you can follow through. The last week of March brings a burst of new and excitable energy to your career, and you are anxious to create a buzz.

Work can be demanding but also invigorating in March, dear Libra. Some restlessness with your current routines is stimulated now, largely due to uncertainty about where exactly you are heading professionally speaking. Focus on doing your best instead of allowing a lack of direction interfere with productivity. In time, direction and purpose will be revealed. Some impulsiveness in the relationship department can lead to confusing or unpredictable situations. Letting go of unhealthy relating patterns is essential in order to move forward. Good news can come in the areas of taxes and loans mid-month.

Romance and creative self-expression are strong areas for you in March, dear Capricorn. Others are seeing your value, and admirers are many. Friends can be especially supportive this month, and you are happy to return favors. Your social life is improved and in focus, while more worldly ambitions temporarily fade into the background. It may be difficult to focus your attention, but you may very well benefit emotionally from this change of pace. Branch out, make connections, and tend to family matters, which may be a little hectic in the last week of March.

24/7-23/08

24/10-22/11

21/01-19/02

Opportunities to increase exposure and to gain recognition for your unique style of expression and creativity are strong this month, dear Leo. While an increase in income may not be realized until May, you are laying important groundwork for future pay raises. The discovery of untapped resources or areas of drain can help you create a new and improved budget. Go over all details carefully. A money-making idea may need refinement before it can be set in motion. March is strong for career, public relations, and stabilizing your life in important ways.

March is very strong for love relationships, dear Scorpio. Opportunities arise to spice up an existing or old connection, or to attract a significant relationship. There is no need to make sweeping decisions just yet, but important groundwork can be laid now. Some of you may revive an old friendship. A partner may come into some extra money this month. Work can involve some mix-ups and slowdowns. Going over work that you thought was complete may be necessary. Stay as flexible as possible and allow for last-minute changes of plans and schedules.

Much joy can be found with family and in the home environment this month, dear Aquarius. It's easier to balance professional and personal endeavors with minimal interference between the two. More money may be spent on enhancing comfort, beauty, and entertainment at home. These things can also be improved without expense, through creative reorganization and spending extra time on family activities. Attention should be drawn to money management in March, as there can be some problems with offers falling through or unexpected expenses this month. Know your limits.

Virgo

Sagittarius

Pisces

24/8-23/09

23/11-21/12

20/02-20/03

You may be dealing with significant delays when it comes to your personal plans this month, dear Virgo, and this gives you the opportunity to slow down long enough to make important refinements. Tame impulsiveness and aim to work at the things you do best rather than taking on new endeavors, just for the time being. You will be tending to others' needs much of the month, and your ability to adapt quickly will strongly affect your success. Watch for overspending in March. Take more time to assess your needs and wants.

Work can pose some challenges in the form of delays this month, dear Sagittarius, but opportunities arise to improve working conditions. Stimulating social connections can be made through business contacts. Be cautious when it comes to mixing personal and professional arenas, however. Misunderstandings can be plenty in March, and you'll want to avoid "bad press". Offers may come from a previous employer or industry mid-month. Home and family matters are well starred in March. It's a strong period for strengthening bonds and taking charge of the household.

You are likely to feel "large and in charge" this month, dear Pisces, and you're bound to wear your increased confidence and independence well. It's a very strong month for your social life in general, although close partnerships require considerate attention and care. Business and money-making ideas in the last week of the month may very well be golden, but take at least a few weeks to sort out the details before launching entirely new initiatives. While unique and creative ideas are vital, patience and planning are the authors of most success stories.

The GIWC financial involvement in the project was estimated at close to $ 305, 000, money raised in a number of different ways by members of the organisation. Other donors included Kybele, a US based non-governmental organization working to improve child birth safety worldwide. They provided $100,000 in administrative and logistics support towards the execution of the project. www.enjoyaccra.com

BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND “Begin with The End In Mind” is the second habit of the international bestselling book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen R. Covey.

H

abit 2 is based on the principle that all things are created twice. There is the mental or first creation and the physical or second creation. This is true of all things. Habit 2, "begin with the end In mind", focuses on the mental or first creation. Take the construction of a home, for example, you created every detail before you even hammer a nail into place. You try to get a very clear sense of the kind of house you want; if you planned a family centred home, you put a family room in the home where a natural gathering place will occur. You plan sliding doors and a patio for children to play outside, you work with ideas, and you work with your mind until you get a clear image of what you want to build. Then you reduce it to blueprint or construction plan all of this is done even before the ground is even touched.

If not, in the physical creation, the second creation, you may have to make expansive changes, that may double the cost of building your home. You have to make sure the blueprint, the first creation is what you really want, thinking everything through. Each day you are building you review the construction and the blueprint. Beginning with the end in mind!

determined by your purpose and/or your desire, therefore you are the definer and the catalyst of your success— define it and perform well. It is important to note that there are no “quick fixes” or “shortcuts” to success. Your ability to be successful is partly determined by how well you understand the process (growth, maturity, planning, execution, introspection and reflection) that leads to success. e

The same is true for each of us as an individual, family, or an organization; you can participate in the first creation by going through the process of developing a mission statement, creating a blueprint by which to guide your life. Decide what “The best way to predict your you are going to do with the time, talent, future is to create it. Success is determined by your purpose and tools you have to work with. The and/or your desire, therefore best way to predict you are the definer and the your future is to catalyst of your success— create it. Success is
