Panko, checking out the view from a seat at Citizens Bank Park yesterday, says he wants to give fans an advance view.
Thanks to a South Philadelphia man, there’s no need to worry about purchasing a pricey stadium ticket and getting stuck behind a foul pole or glass partition. At least that’s the vision behind A View From My Seat, a website and Android app that encourages users to upload cell phone shots of, well, the view from their seats in thousands of venues around the world. “The idea came out of me and my wife wanting
to find a better place to sit before we bought Phillies season tickets,” said creator Frank Panko, 36. “We looked around at a game and everyone had a smartphone, iPhone or Android and they were all taking photos.” The app, which was released in beta mode last July, currently shows views from over 7,000 seats across the country and about 600 in Philadelphia, where its following is the strongest.

Baseball is the most popular sport, but people can send pictures from any event. “Some of the stuff we get surprises us: golf, some Nascar and monster truck rallies,” said Panko, who quit his job two weeks ago to focus on developing the program full-time. “Outside of the U.S., we do well with soccer, especially the Premier League in the U.K. Whatever people send, as long as it’s venue-related, we just try to adapt to it.” Though a View From My
Info straight from fans’ mouths Though sites like Seat Data already offer a similar service, Panko sees them as like minds rather than competition. “I could actually see working with Seat Data at some point — they’re really just supplying seating charts and one photo from each section of an empty venue, but we’re supplying actual game photos with comments from the fans,” he said. “I’d like to think we’re getting better content by going straight to the fans themselves.” METRO/AW
Seat currently has photos from 1,200 venues, Panko estimates that it covers less than 1 percent of available seats in the country, a figure he hopes to change. “I’d like to see if I can partner with a bigger company like StubHub or Ticketmaster to have photos show up when you’re actually buying tickets or to get people discounts for every photo they share,” Panko said. Illegal pill scheme popped by feds A 498-count indictment was unsealed yesterday charging 53 people in a drug conspiracy that allegedly garnered more than $5 million in less than three years and defrauded the federal government of an untold amount of money in health
insurance payments. William Stukes allegedly recruited patients for Dr. Norman Werther, who wrote fraudulent prescriptions for oxycodone-based drugs. The “pseudo-patients” took the prescriptions to Northeast Pharma-
cy on Bustleton Avenue, where pharmacist Ihsanullah “Sean” Maaf allegedly filled them. The patients paid for the drugs using cash, private insurance or Medicaid, then allegedly turned the drugs over to Stukes for resale on
the street. His organization allegedly distributed over 200,000 pills in Philadelphia and Montgomery County. Forty-four of the 53 defendants were arrested yesterday. The other nine are fugitives. METRO/AW

Toomey will have a big say on debt
Pennsylvania senator to serve on supercommittee to tackle country’s debt He’s ‘deeply honored to serve’ RIKARD LARMA/METRO
Republican U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey made waves these last few months by taking the hard stance against raising the debt ceiling without substantial cuts to the federal government’s growing deficit, going so far as to say: “I’m not going to go along with some deal that raises the debt limit without making the real cuts in spending we need and the real process reform.” He then didn’t vote for the debt ceiling increase last Tuesday, which was approved. Now, he’ll have the ultimate chance to weigh in on cutting $1 trillion or so in the next year after Senate Minority Leader Mitch
Toomey
McConnell, R-Ky., appointed him to represent Senate Republicans on the supercommittee that will adopt what the whole Congress — presumably — will then pass to lower short-term
deficit problems for the country. “I am deeply honored for the opportunity to serve on this bipartisan committee and to be part of the important work we will be doing,” Toomey said yesterday after the appointment. “In light of last week’s events, with the nation’s credit downgrade and the deep drop in the markets, it is all the more imperative that this committee do its job effectively and come up with a product that both tackles our debt crisis and can help revive our failing economy.” BRIAN X. SEPTA is weighing options for its Regional Rail line that ends in Chester. A new station near PPL Park, pictured here, is the basis of a new study.
Chester could get new SEPTA station along waterfront While the Chester City waterfront has seen significant development in recent years, including PPL Park and a converted office building, one thing has been missing: viable public transit options. That could soon change. A new study from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission looks at the feasibility of building a SEPTA Regional Rail station on the WilmingtonNewark line that would link pedestrians to the stadium and other planned development. Highland Avenue, currently the closest station, is only expected to last another three to five years

No economic impact studies have been done on the proposals, said Thomas Moore, Mayor Wendell Butler’s chief of staff. “Having an enhanced public transit system to serve the waterfront core ... is obviously something we’re very interested in, Moore said. FB closes inmate profiles
Are things in this country headed in the right direction or are they on the wrong track?
has begun closing the accounts of California prison inmates after a convicted child molester viewed the pages of his victim from behind bars, authorities and the social networking site said Tuesday. Facebook has shut down the accounts of at least two prisoners, and officials are working on identifying other accounts that had been accessed from behind bars, reports the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Though most prisoners in California do not have access to the Internet, they often log on to the Internet with contraband cell phones. REUTERS

Americans say US is on wrong track Economic fears are weighing heavily on Americans, with a large majority saying the United States is on the wrong track and nearly half believing the worst is yet to come, a Reuters/Ipsos poll said yesterday. The poll reflected growing anxiety about the economy and frustration with Washington after a narrowly averted government default last week, a credit rating downgrade by Standard & Poor’s, a stock market dive and a stubbornly high 9.1 percent jobless rate. President Barack Obama came out bruised but relatively intact from the brutal, weeks-long debt debate. His approval rating

Thinking outside the ‘BoomBox Logic’ Kuf Knotz is back in the business with his new solo album Where to catch him live this weekend
Kuf Knotz

DENISE PERRI
In 2007, Swarthmore native Kuf Knotz toured the country with the BurnDown AllStars, playing packed venues and converting thousands of fans along the way. It was all due to being featured on the Fuse TV reality series, “Bodog Music Battle of the Bands. But the bright lights of Hollywood didn’t do much to cultivate the band. In fact, it broke them up. “We were eight MCs and five band members, so their big thing was, ‘You guys will never make it, because you’re too big of a band,’ explains Knotz. “Then they
started telling us certain members needed to go in order to get a record deal. When we got back, we had a lot interest from labels, but it was the same thing: We’re too big. Apparently, the powers that be never heard of the Roots. These days, Knotz is promoting his first solo album, “BoomBox Logic, in as many local venues as he can find, from coffee shops to outdoor festivals. On Saturday, he’s scheduled for double duty: By day he’s playing the Jam at the Grove Festival in Ottsville Pa., and by
night he headlines an enormous bill of hip-hop acts at the Fire. He’s even made inroads at WXPN — a station that’s not exactly a hip-hop destination. “I don’t intentionally try to crossover, but I’m just open. I listen to everything, says Knotz. “When I play XPN events, a lot of times their core fan base will approach me and say something like, ‘I’m not really into that hip-hop, rap stuff, but I enjoy your music,’ so I guess there’s something about it that’s easier for them to swallow.
Double feature At the Jam at the Grove Festival, Kuf Knotz will play with his full backing band, LP Stiles. Later that night, he plays a stripped-down set with vocalist Dave Vegas at the Fire.

Things you didn’t know about Soave Say what? Say Soave! Here’s the history behind this Italian white wine, which is quickly making a comeback. Was it Romeo’s favorite?
A
merica’s favorite white wine from Italy in the ’70s and ’80s, Soave decreased in popularity in the ’90s as pinot grigio ascended. Thanks to the higher-quality wines and targeted communication campaigns,
Soave is now regaining popularity with America’s wine drinkers. Here, Soave winemakers share what you need to know. In Italian, Soave means ‘smooth’ or ‘appealing’ The origin of the name comes from the Suevians, a people of German descent who moved to Italy with Alboin, the Longobard King, in the sixth century. Soave’s lively acidity makes it a perfect complement for Japanese cuisine
Sushi, sashimi and tempura dishes have a complementary delicacy and lightness. Also, Soave should be chilled — but not ice-cold. Soave is for lovers The vineyards of Soave are scattered across the hillsides of the Veneto east

The main varietal in Soave is Garganega Garganega is an indigenous grape that found an ideal habitat in the volcanic soil of Soave. With a long viticultural history dating back to the Roman era, Garganega is referred to frequently in Italian literature. Eons ago, the Soave area was covered by a tropi-
cal sea as evidenced by saline sediments in the soil that are expressed in the wine. The Soave Wine Road is an excellent way for travelers to experience Soave. Roughly 30 miles long and passing through 13 wineries, this road showcases historic landmarks and architectural attractions, museums, fine restaurants and the landscapes of the Verona hills with their abundant olive and cherry trees. Eagles nab Pro Bowler Smith The Eagles agreed to terms on a one-year contract yesterday with former Giants wide receiver Steve Smith. The deal is reportedly worth $4 million, with $2 million guaranteed. “It seemed like a great fit and that’s how it played out,” Smith said.

After the first, there will be some “carry over,” per Reid.
Smith is coming off microfracture surgery on his knee and was limited to just nine games last season. The 26-year-old is still rehabbing, but said he is “ahead of the curve.” “If it were up to me, I’d want to practice tomorrow,” Smith said. “I’m pret-

ty close. It could be Week 1 ... you never know.” According to league sources, the Smith signing has nothing to do with the mysterious illness that is keeping Jeremy Maclin off the practice field. The team still expects him back for Week 1.
“We feel very good about our current group of receivers and Steve adds another dimension to that position,” coach Andy Reid said. “He’s played very well against us in the past few years and we’re happy to have him on board.”

Stuck in the middle.
Talk all you want about the Eagles revamped defense, the fact remains that the starting linebackers — at least the ones listed with the ones on the depth chart — are three very big question marks. Moise Fokou will start at strongside; Jamar Chaney at weakside; and rookie Casey Matthews will call the shots at middle. All will be under intense scrutiny, especially Matthews, who will receive the play calls through helmet headphones and pass them on to his teammates.

Young and the restless.
Vince Young has struggled picking up the offense in training camp, but coach Andy Reid confirmed yesterday that he will get the second-team snaps in the second quarter. While much has been made of Young’s off-thefield baggage and unusual throwing motion, the 28year-old has had success in this league — he’s 3017 as a starter in the NFL (30-2 in college) and has won 13 of his last 19 pro starts. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg used the words “bright” and “sharp” when discussing the former Titan. Time to show it.

In the line of fire.
Another unknown coming into this “dream” season is the offensive line, a unit that struggled mightily at times last season. While the left side seems pretty secure with Jason Peters and Todd Herremans, keep an eye on the rest. Jamaal Jackson (center) will see his first action since reinjuring himself in last year’s opener. Danny Watkins (right guard) is making his NFL debut after missing the first week of camp. And newcomer Ryan Harris will be counted on to protect Michael Vick’s blind side, with Winston Justice still ailing. METRO
Phils sweep L.A. Ryan Howard and Hunter Pence homered and helped the Phils to a 9-8 comeback win yesterday over the Dodgers. Kyle Kendrick (75) got the victory in relief after starter Vance Worley fell behind 6-0 early. The Phils, at 7740, are 37 games over .500 for the first time since 1977.

Johnny Knox, WR, CHI — Roy Williams is starting at split end, Devin Hester is at flanker and Earl Bennett is in the slot. It doesn’t make much sense, but Knox has been demoted.
2
Tim Tebow, QB, DEN — After looking lost at practice, Tebow no longer has the

support of the locker room. Kyle Orton has won this competition already and will start in Week 1. Take Tebow off your sleeper lists.
3
Chris Cooley, TE, WAS — Cooley is struggling to regain health after offseason knee surgery. He will also be catching passes from either John Beck or Rex Grossman and will have to help the ’Skins’ woeful offensive line often.

NFL coaches hate players that are always hurt. When you are in the training room, you can’t get better, can’t get faster and can’t be trusted. Fantasy owners should have the same feelings toward injured guys. Older players off major injuries should be a red flag. Here are three big-name guys not worth gambling on:
Maurice Jones-Drew could be the next elite running back to ďŹ nd his career cli. He had knee surgery this oseason.
seasons of 330-plus touches and is on an offense where he’s the only real weapon. The risk is too great for the first round.
Cold Colston Marques Colston
MJD’s knee Maurice Jones-Drew had meniscus surgery this offseason after doctors diagnosed him with a “bone on bone condition. Now he’s limited in camp, is coming off two straight
underwent microfracture surgery this offseason, the fifth knee surgery of his career. He recently sat out five straight days at Saints camp due to soreness, and it’s questionable if he’ll be able to regain his athleticism. Robert Meachem is
ready to step in if Colston can’t do it.
Shaky Gates Antonio Gates is as tough as they come and the best tight end in the league. He is also still feeling the plantar fasciitis that bothered him last year. No one seems concerned, but the tight end position is so deep. Give me Jason Witten, Jermichael Finley or Vernon Davis a couple rounds later. Gambling on Gates isn’t worth it.

What were some of your inspirations for the collection? Janie Bryant: I drew inspira-
tion from my favorite Mad Men pieces. I also have a few nostalgic pieces from my mother that my grandmother made in the ’60s. A favorite is my mother’s engagement dress that is a royal blue A-line party dress with embroidered lavender and navy roses. Why do you think there’s this fascination with ’60s fashion? Simon Kneen: What’s not to
love about beautiful, dressed-up tailoring? It’s fascinating to see all the faults of the characters, yet they put on this facade of chic polish and panache. Who do you think has the best
style on the show? SK: I love that Joan works
her incredible silhouette so fashionably. Fit is everything, and I always encourage people to find the most flattering fit to complement their assets. Joan’s a role model for that! Did you guys have a whiskey or three to get into the vibe? SK: Wouldn’t that have been
fun? It was actually over a strong cup of coffee at 6 a.m. that Janie and I first met. We had such a genuine connection and shared passion for tailoring and white shirts — we could talk for hours about white shirts! TINA CHADHA

Facebook to be ‘destroyed’ Nov. 5 Hackivist group Anonymous vows to “kill Facebook” on Nov. 5, citing users’ lack of choice in privacy as its reason for attack.
Anonymous confirmed via a tweet that while some of its members are organizing the upcoming attack against Facebook, the hacker organization as a whole does not necessarily agree with the attack. The group of hackers has claimed participation in just about every recent notable hacking attack of this year, and successfully broke into 70 law enforcement websites and took down the Syrian Ministry

of Defense website this week alone. This recent interest in Facebook, despite a slew of privacy concerns raised against the social network since its founding, may be a result of Anonymous’s re-
cent announcement that it plans to create its own social network, called AnonPlus. After the group’s Google+ account, called “Your Anon News,” was banned, it began fleshing out AnonPlus.com, “a new social network where there is no fear … of censorship.” ERICA SWALLOW FOR
