Train stabber sentenced Police nabbed a second suspect Monday in a rash of sex assaults in Brooklyn, but two more men believed to also be behind the crimes are still roaming the streets. Cops arrested Queens resident Joshua Flecha, 32, on Monday morning on Greenwood Avenue between Fourth and Fifth streets, after officers in a passing police cruiser suspected that he was trying

to break into a car. When police pulled over and asked Flecha to put his hands up, they found he was holding his cell phone, which was playing a pornographic video. He also had his pants unzipped, police said. He was also allegedly carrying marijuana. Police thought Flecha resembled one of the men suspected in the string of as-

saults. A woman, 37, picked him out of a lineup as the man who grabbed her on May 7 as she swiped her Metrocard at the Seventh Avenue station in Park Slope. Cops said he grabbed her breasts, exposed himself and masturbated. An NYPD spokesman said charges were pending against him for the May 7 assault, and police set up lineups with other victims,

which could take some time, with the number of attacks now up to 20. Cops say Flecha is one of four suspected men accused of the attacks in Sunset Park, Park Slope and Windsor Terrace. Last week, Adolfo Martinez, 26, was arrested and charged with groping, as well. ALISON BOWEN

From politicians to performers, celebs flock to Zuccotti Park Big-bucks stars show solidarity with groups advocating for financial and political reform But are they seeking equality or just free publicity? A parade of celebrities has poured into Zuccotti Park since the Occupy Wall Street movement began more than a month ago, attracting the likes of everyone from Susan Sarandon and Michael Moore to “Gossip Girl” star Penn Badgley. The Rev. Jesse Jackson swung by Monday night, where he linked arms with protesters to form a barricade around a medical tent, which police wanted to take down. And Sarandon joined OWS protesters at a rally outside Sotheby’s yesterday. But some of the bigname visitors may be merely trying to capitalize off the international attention the protest has garnered, say some. “It’s good for their egos,” said Doug Muzzio, a professor of public affairs at Baruch College. “On one hand, this guy is from a past era and is past his prime, looking for attention,” he said of Jackson. “Or, at one time, and even now, he stood for things this movement seems to be standing for.” And most of the celebrity visitors easily fall into Occupy’s much-maligned “1 percent”: Kanye West

Charlie Rangel, who both stopped by, may not always be welcome. “It adds an air of legitimacy,” said Muzzio. “It has an uplifting effect. But at the same time, given the sense of the Occupy Wall Street folks, the Rangels and the Patersons and other politicians of the world are not necessarily their allies in this.” “In terms of electoral politics, it doesn’t matter,” he said. “Going down there can’t hurt careers because, in a sense, they don’t have any.” CASSANDRA GARRISON

Judgment waits for Camping followers

SPENCER PLATT/GETTY IMAGES

WASHINGTON. Republican

Failed doomsday phophet at it again, but this time with more modesty End of days predicted for Friday Five months after falsely predicting that the world would end on May 21, Christian radio host Rev. Harold Camping is once again saying that the end is nigh. This time, though, he’s doing it quietly. Camping’s predictions that the world would end back in May were preceded with a media blitz, with signs of the apocalypse emblazoned everywhere from billboards to buses to banner ads on websites. But when the world failed to end, Camping became a laughingstock. Camping held on to his faith, and proclaimed a new date for the end of the world: Oct. 21. People

“The end is going to come very, very quietly, probably within the next month.” CAMPING laughed, and then generally moved on. But once again the date approaches. How is he handling the apocalypse the second time around? Very carefully, as it turns out.

There are no bus ads and no billboards this time, and no warnings of giant earthquakes and fiery volcanoes. Camping’s newest statement, playing intermittently on Family Radio, advises that for nonbelievers the end will be soft and gentle. Even the date, so prominent in the first campaign, has been de-emphasized. Camping merely warns “the end is going to come very, very quietly probably within the next month.” So don’t worry, heathens: The world is only “probably” going to end on Friday. NATE JONES

Followers of radio evangelist Harold Camping walked the streets proselytizing the coming of Judgment Day this May.

Sgt. Shalit returns home to Israel in Palestinian swap GETTY IMAGES

Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit and hundreds of Palestinians crossed Israel’s borders in opposite directions yesterday as a thousand-forone prisoner swap brought joy to families but did little to ease decades of conflict. In one of the biggest ever such exchanges between the two sides, a pale and gaunt Sgt. Shalit was flown to his parents’ home in northern Israel after more than five years held incommunicado by Hamas in the Gaza Strip, while a first 477 of over 1,000 Palestinians to be released under the bargain left Israeli jails for Gaza, the West Bank and abroad. Flag-waving crowds

greeted long unseen loved ones as heroes and uncompromising talk on either side left few illusions for world leaders who urged Israel and the divided Palestinian factions to

build on the long-awaited bargain brokered by Germany and Egypt to reopen wider peace negotiations. In an interview with Egyptian television as he passed through on his way from Gaza, a visibly weak and dazed Shalit, 25, said of 5,000 Palestinians who remain in Israeli jails: “I hope this deal will promote peace between Israel and the Palestinians. But, while leaders made mildly conciliatory comments about each other’s role in achieving the deal, there was no sign of warmth across the frontline of the struggle for land and security between Palestinians and Israel. Starbucks brews light Blonde roast, seeks new visitors

SPENCER PLATT/GETTY IMAGES

Starbucks Corp. is going “Blonde, expanding its coffee lineup with its lightest roast to date in a move aimed at wooing more customers and capturing a bigger share of the U.S. coffee market. The world’s biggest coffee company is known for its dark roasts, which have prompted some critics to say the chain’s coffee tastes burned or bitter. The new, lighter roast unveiled yesterday is milder in body and acidity than Starbucks’ traditional coffees. Executives said customers had been asking for a lighter roast, and they expect Blonde to appeal to a broad audience.

Does Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz prefer blondes?

Mass-market competitors McDonald’s Corp. and Dunkin’ Donuts offer milder brewed coffees, and in recent years, have added lattes, mochas and other sorts of “fancy espresso drinks popularized by Starbucks.

“This is a significant opportunity for Starbucks to gain a greater share of the brewed coffee market — both in our stores and down the coffee aisle, Cliff Burrows, president of Starbucks Americas, said in a statement. REUTERS

Soulja Boy arrested in Georgia It’s going to take a lot of fancy footwork for Soulja Boy to get out of this mess. TMZ.com reports that the “Crank That” superstar (real name DeAndre Cortez Way) was busted for weed possession by Temple Police Department officers in Temple, Ga. early Tuesday morning. Apparently, the car service Escalade the 21-year-old was riding in was pulled over for a traffic violation. The vehicle was then searched, and police found a “substantial amount of marijuana and cash inside the vehicle.” The rapper, along with four other men

LaBeouf gets punched yet again Honestly, Shia LaBeouf gets into more fights than a gaggle of drunk Southies. The “Transformers” star got into yet another brawl at Cinema Public House in Vancouver last week, according to Radar Online. “He got into a confrontation with a couple of people. He took a few punches to

the face. He was obviously pretty intoxicated,” a source says. The actor and another patron were reportedly bounced from the establishment, but their altercation continued on the street until both could be restrained. TMZ.com has a clip of the fight (of course they do) and you can see a man tearing off his shirt before punching LaBeouf. It’s refreshing to know people other than me want to punch him.

‘Hannah Montana’ DUI arrest

Sarandon vs. Pope Benedict XVI

Mitchel Musso, the 20-year-old former “Hannah Montana” actor, was arrested for driving under the influence earlier this week, according to TMZ. Musso was pulled over after failing to slow down for police who were directing traffic at an intersection. According to the police report, officers approached Musso’s 2007 black Mercedes Benz and detected a “strong odor of alcohol.” Musso was administered a Breathalyzer and tested “well above” the legal limit.

Susan Sarandon is taking on Pope Benedict XVI. While discussing “Dead Man Walking” at the Hamptons Film Festival, Sarandon had some unkind words for the head of the Catholic Church, according to Newsday. Sarandon explained that she’d sent a copy of the book upon which the film was based — which advocates against the death penalty — to the pontiff. “The last one,” Sarandon clarified, “not this Nazi one we have now.”

Sean Durkin’s very big year

COURTESY OF FOX SEARCHLIGHT PICTURES.

Writer-director Sean Durkin’s first feature film, “Martha Marcy May Marlene,” deals with the trauma of life inside and after escaping a cult — though that word is never used in the film. Told in a fractured chronology that highlights Martha’s growing paranoia, the film is both beautiful and unsettling. Durkin discussed the genesis of his haunting film. Where did the idea for this movie start?

It started with just a very simple desire to maybe make a film about a cult. I felt like I hadn’t seen anything that was modern and naturalistic. I wanted to do something that showed a little bit more of the subtle manipulation. With the steps the cult leader (John Hawkes) takes to indoctrinate your heroine, it’s almost like a how-to guide.

It’s funny, these guys are all very generic. Like seri-

ously, you read about them and they just all use the same tactics. The word “cult” never comes up in the movie.

FOR THE FULL INTERVIEW, GO TO: WWW.METRO.US/MOVIES

“Cult” has got a lot of connotations that aren’t helpful when you’re making a movie about someone being manipulated into certain things. I mean, no one in a cult ever talks about being in a cult or thinks they’re in a cult. They just think that what they’re doing is right, and they’re doing what they believe in. NED EHRBAR

Dom Kennedy With “2mph,” Dom Kennedy has penned a song that anybody who has ever felt cool in a car can relate to. “Two miles per hour, so everybody sees me,” he repeats in a sing-song chorus that is instantly classic. Listening to this Canadian duo, you might think that your computer is misreading a CD by pop divas of bygone days like Nu Shooz or Exposé. The melodies and vocal effects are 1980s top 40, but there’s something sick going on underneath the surface, like dubstep sub-bass booms and fat hip-hop beats. But when you see them live, you’ll feel like you’re the one whose system is having difficulty pro- cessing the music. As Megan James sings sweet

Check out “Ffunny Ffriends,” and we dare you not to try to make one of their shows this week. This acoustic gal alternates between playful and poignant, often within the same song. Against elegant instruments in the tear-jerker that is appropriately titled, “Cry, Cry, Baby,” she sings, quite beautifully, “You can have my sixth grade picture/Can I have the one of us mooning?” And she delivers it in a way that you can tell she is not trying to be clever or just silly. It just feels so human, capturing the humor that sometimes briefly emerges in sad situations. Catch her: Tonight, Mercury Lounge

With unseasonably warm weather bathing the Northeast in a sense of summery security, it’s been hard to imagine that the winter flu season is already upon us. However, October through March is the official period when influenza strikes most, well, virulently. “You should get your flu shot as early as you can,” warns Boston-based CVS pharmacist Minh Do, PharmD. “That allows your immune system time to build up antibodies.” Your body makes these proteins to fight bacteria and diseases. It takes approximately 14 days for flu shots to become effective, so if you happen to catch the bug right after your shot, it’s not because of the vaccine itself.

“You are not instantly protected right when you get the flu shot,” Do continues. “You can never, ever get the flu virus from the flu shot. You might have al-

ready gotten the flu, but you may not have exhibited the symptoms until a few days later.” The World Health Organization has predicted that this season’s strain will be the same as last winter’s, but that doesn’t mean that last year’s shot is still good. “Flu shots have a lifespan of four to six months. You need to get another one this year,” says Do. The standard flu shot also includes immunization against the H1N1 (so-called “swine flu”) virus, but it won’t protect against other yet-unknown flu strains. “The WHO tries to predict the seasonal flu vaccine for the upcoming season, so it takes about six months to produce the ap-

our concerns about money are legitimate, as you’ll be taking a cut. Think about what’s most impor-

tant: Is it making several hundred thousand despite working “absurdly long hours,” or is it doing something rewarding and having time to enjoy your family, even if it means less money? Sure, you might have to modify your lifestyle — but in the end, I suspect that enjoying time with loved ones will win out over a huge bank account. As for your need to be the breadwinner: That’s something you’ll have to reconcile with your ego and the fact that it’s 2011, not 1950. Protesters have no clue RE: “US PROTESTS CALL, LONDON PICKS UP”: Metro

asked three London protesters why they were protesting; none could answer the question. They spoke in generalizations and abstractions like “raising awareness” and who is portrayed in the media. But they never said why. Considering that the Brits have cradle-to-grave health care and often “go on the dole” when they are unemployed, it’s surprising that they have any reason to protest at all.

Raiders trade for Palmer It was costly, but the Raiders may have their franchise quarterback. Oakland traded a first-round pick next year and a conditional first in 2013 for the rights to former Bengals QB Carson Palmer yesterday.

Rex touts team’s resilience If you listened to the pundits — not to mention some of the players — Monday’s game against Miami was a must win. The Dolphins are far from a elite team, but the win was important nonetheless. “This is a resilient team and a resilient bunch of guys,” Ryan said. “The season is far from over. We responded the way I thought we would.” Now, however, the team turns to much tougher foes. They will face a gauntlet of San Diego, at Buffalo and New England over the next four weeks. METRO/MO

Missing in action What happened to the Plaxico Burress the Jets thought they were signing? Rex Ryan: ‘It just seems like we’re missing just a little bit’ He’s 6-foot-5. He caught the game-winning touchdown in one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history. And he can’t make a play to save his life. When the Jets let Braylon Edwards go in the offseason they thought they’d found

the perfect replacement in Burress. He was exactly the tall, rangy receiver Mark Sanchez needed in the red zone. So far this season he has two catches inside the opponents’ 20-yard line. “It just seems like we’re missing just a little bit,”

head coach Rex Ryan said yesterday. “But I’m encouraged by the fact that, hey, we’ll keep working, and I think as the season goes along, you’re going to see better and better chemistry and having the ball thrown to Plax more as the season goes on.” The Jets targeted Burress four times in the team’s 246 win over the Dolphins. He had one catch for 16 yards and a glaring drop on a would-be first down. Burress was away from the game for two years in prison, of course, and much of the reason for his ab-

Burress has just two catches for 28 yards and no touchdowns in the fourth quarter when the margin is within seven points. sence in the offense has been blamed on that. “It takes a while to get a feel for the guy,” Ryan said. “The chemistry is there, it's just a matter of fine-tuning just a little bit more and I think we're gonna be just fine.” MARK OSBORNE

Giants have hard schedule ahead US PRESSWIRE

The NFL bye week is time for teams to get healthy, assess where they are and devise a plan for improvement when they finally return to action. The Giants will use the bye week for all of the above, but will also keep an eye toward the future. Of their remaining 10 games, the Giants (4-2)

have only one gimme — home against the hapless Dolphins (0-5) in two weeks. But after squishing the fish, the Giants face a murderous schedule. New York then plays at the Patriots (5-1), at the rejuvenated 49ers (5-1), home for the Eagles (2-4), at the Saints (4-2), home for the world champion

Packers (6-0), at the Cowboys (2-3), home for the Redskins (3-2) and “at” the Jets (3-3) in what should be a highly-charged Christmas Eve tilt. Not a gimme in sight. Surely life will be easier if the walking wounded return within two weeks. Big Blue can surely use the services of Justin Tuck

Jacobs should return after the bye.

(neck/groin), Brandon Jacobs (knee), Chris Snee (concussion) and Prince Amukamara (foot). Those are three stellar starters and one prized rookie that can go a long way in determining if New York’s fast start is another mirage, as it has been the last two seasons, or the start of a playoff-caliber season.

“We are going to see what we need to do for these next 10 games and the rest of the season,” guard David Diehl said. “We are going to see what we need to correct to make sure the rest of our season is successful.” TONY WILLIAMS sports@metro.us

Tired of Obstructive Sleep Apnea?

New York ties Here are a few reasons for New Yorkers to tune in:

Cardinals star Albert Pujols is surrounded by press on media day yesterday at the World Series.

World Series ready to start Cardinals rode an epic comeback Rangers look to avenge last year Leaf through every publication’s preseason World Series predictions and you’ll find mostly Red SoxPhillies. Nobody was ready to go out on a limb and forecast the Cardinals would open the Fall Classic against the Rangers. Two months ago, the Rangers might not have been such an outlandish pick. While the Red Sox and Yankees were dueling for AL East supremacy, Texas was quietly getting ready to clinch the AL West. “On November the first we committed ourselves to trying to get back here because we knew we had the potential in the clubhouse to do it,” Texas manager Ron Washington said. “A lot of times people say a lot of things that they like to do, and they don't usually live

up to it. But the character inside my clubhouse, they lived up to it.” As for the Cardinals, two months ago they dropped 10 1/2 games behind wildcard leader Atlanta. Starting on Aug. 25, the Cardinals won 23 of 32 games then knocked out the Phillies, who helped St. Louis clinch a playoff berth, in the playoffs. “This is in the improbable, incredible, overwhelming,” St. Louis manager Tony LaRussa said after the NLCS. “They're all special. This one here has its own mark, because coming from that far back is historic I think.” LARRY FLEISHER

Texas GM Jon Daniels is a native of Queens and grew up a Mets fan in the 1980s. St. Louis reliever Octavio Dotel began his career as a Met in 1999 and also pitched for the Yankees in 2006. Texas bullpen coach Andy Hawkins pitched for the Yankees from 1989-91. Texas reliever Darren Oliver pitched for the Mets in 2006, including a sixinning relief appearance in NLCS Game 3. St. Louis outfielder Lance Berkman spent three frustrating months with the Yankees last year.

For millions of adults like you, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a daily struggle, robbing you of the deep restful sleep you need to get through your day. Untreated OSA is also associated with an increased risk of death and serious health conditions, including high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, diabetes, and stroke. Right now, sleep specialists at Clinilabs in Manhattan are conducting a research study of an investigational device for obstructive sleep apnea that may help. If you have OSA, and haven’t had lasting success with CPAP or other treatments, this study may be right for you.

Framing things in a new way Artist Annie Sklaver’s 3-D paper-cut portraits are putting a unique spin on the usual family composition Family photographs are a beautiful thing — how else can you capture such singular moments in life? But Brooklyn artist Annie Sklaver is elevating their beauty to the next level with her unique paper-cut portraits. As she describes them, her works are “carefully crafted 3-D portraits based on a photograph using a collage of patterns, colors and shapes and shadows to evoke a particular moment in time. What makes her work different is that while they capture the essence of the moment, they’re beautifully simple. “The portraits don’t have facial features or small details, so my clients are always amazed

when their portrait looks exactly like them and has so much emotion, the 27year-old says. “I use shadows very carefully to capture movement and depth, and the 3-D aspect really allows the portrait to come alive in the frame. She continues: “Since I focus on body language, and the way people touch or lean on each other, you see the little things that are unique to that specific relationship. All of a sudden you notice how they position themselves in relation to each other, and

the image becomes a lot more intimate. The burgeoning artist currently works on her commissions after getting home from her day job as a market researcher. Sklaver tells us the majority of her orders are intended to be a first wedding anniversary gift (they are made out of paper, after all). “This is a side project, but it channels a creative energy that I will always feel, she says. “Someday, I hope that this energy will lead me to illustrate a children’s book — or a lot of children’s books. DOROTHY ROBINSON
