Police: Attacks may be linked Authorities recently released a sketch of the man who sexually assaulted a woman inside her Brighton apartment and have asked people who recognize him to contact police. Since the investigation into the Oct. 25 assault in Brighton, police have deter-

mined that the same man is likely responsible for another assault that occurred Sept. 13 on Brookline Avenue. During last month’s attack, the man somehow gained access to the woman’s Webley Street building and assaulted her at about 6 p.m. and fled.

The woman was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. Police described the man as black Hispanic or Portuguese, about 5 feet 7 inches or 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 170 pounds with short black gelled hair and he spoke either Spanish

or Portuguese. Police released little information on the incidents and how the two assaults are linked as they are still being investigated. Anyone with information can call 800-494-TIPS or text “tip” to “crime” (27463).

At the Occupy Boston site, the words “Get a Job” are scrawled across an information chart where people can sign up to participate. But those who aren’t there to help are being asked to leave. Occupy Boston members have been evicting people not conducive to the movement’s efforts through general consensus and mediated removal efforts. Two former occupiers that were part of the financial team at Tent City in Dewey Square were banned from the campgrounds recently for allegedly funneling money without the group’s permission. On Nov. 3, the general assembly passed campsite legislation to keep Paul Carnes and Sidney Sherrel out of the site for their alleged “lack of accountability and transparency.” “We aren’t going to evict someone for something light,” said protester Robin Jacks. “With Paul … people had the idea he was allowed back in camp and we wanted to make clear that he wasn’t.” Problem protesters habitually using drugs and alcohol have also been the target of camp “removal efforts.” “In order for residents to feel

Police pose online as teen girl; men charged with solicitation Three men will soon face a judge after they were arrested this weekend during an online sex sting by police posing as a teenage girl. Boston Police Department Human Trafficking Unit officers posed as a 15year-old girl for the undercover online investigation. When the men allegedly contacted the officers posing as the teen, they agreed to meet with the intent of engaging in “various sexual activities,” police said yesterday. The men set up specific times and places to meet.

Republican presidential candidate and former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain has been back and forth in polls lately.

Allegations that Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain sexually harassed women in the 1990s have begun to damage his bid for the White House, a Reuters-Ipsos poll found. The poll showed the percentage of Republicans who view Cain favorably dropped 9 percentage points, to 57 percent from 66 percent a week ago. Among all registered voters, Cain’s favorability declined 5 percentage points, to 32 percent from 37 percent. The survey represents the first evidence that sex-

A majority of respondents, 53 percent, believe sexual harassment allegations against Cain are true despite his denials. The United States should be more open about its development of offensive cyber weapons and spell out when it will use them as it grapples with an increasing barrage of attacks by foreign hackers, the former No. 2 uniformed officer in the U.S. military said. “We’ve got to step up the game; we’ve got to talk about our offensive capabilities and train to them; to make them credible so that people know there’s a penalty to this,” said James Cartwright, the four-star Marine Corps general who retired in August as the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Snooki laughing all the way to the bank This gossip columnist is guilty of saying a few negative things about the force of nature that is Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi. And I’m not the only one. “People are very, very rude to me. I’m probably one of the biggest celebrities who is bullied by people. The thing is, it doesn’t get to me. In high school, I got bullied so bad that now I am such a strong person,” the pint-sized star told Metro while promoting her new perfume “Snooki by Nicole Polizzi,” which will debut on Nov. 25. “When people do talk about me, at least they are talking about me, you know? It’s not really a big deal to me.” But one thing you can’t make fun of her for? Her weight — girlfriend looks fantastic. Her secret? She stopped what got her famous in the first place. “I stopped drinking,” she claims. “I hardly drink when we’re not filming the

show, so that helped a lot. Just eating right, grilled chicken, spinach, broccoli, lots of green tea and working out.” Her perfume is just one of the many products being branded by Snooki. She also has three books out, a self tanner, and a new mobile app called Snookify, and she’s coming out with a new set of fake eyelashes next year. From being bullied to selling her own brand of fake eyelashes. Is this a great country or what? —With additional reporting by Cassandra Garrison

Here’s the woman causing the Bieber drama It looks like Mariah Yeater, the woman claiming to be Justin Bieber’s baby mama, has a rap sheet. Above is a booking photo, taken last year on Dec. 21 in Las Vegas, when she was arrested for battery domestic violence, injury/destroying property and threatening telephone calls. The reason for the hubbub? Apparently, Yeater showed up at an old boyfriend’s

home, claiming he knocked her up (it is assumed it is the same baby that she later claimed Bieber fathered). A fight broke out, Yeater assaulted the guy, and she was arrested, according to TMZ.com. This doesn’t mean that Yeater isn’t telling the truth about Bieber, but it certainly puts a dent in her credibility. There is no word on when the paternity test is scheduled, but maybe instead of blood work, they should just see if that baby can dance like Usher? That should settle things.

Love on the rocks for rock couples Musical marriages are not easy, as the singers we spoke to will tell you And that goes double if you play in the same band as your spouse

Deschanel, left, and Gibbard announced they are separating.

W

hile Kim Kardashian runs un-

challenged for most “important” divorce in the universe, elsewhere in the entertainment industry there have been a few other quiet uncouplings that are no less newsworthy. In mid-October, Sonic Youth figureheads Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon announced that they’re separating after 27 years of marriage. And last week, actress and She & Him singer Zooey Deschanel and Death Cab for Cutie singer Ben Gibbard announced their separation after two years of marriage. For some reason, musical romances seem to be more legitimate than Hollywood marriages. Perhaps because the résumé bullet points of a songwriter include exploring the essence of love and giving hope to the masses.

Hazard, left and Dragonetti keep it together.

617•723•6300 And when those people find love in their own personal lives, it makes everyone happy. But musical couplings seem rife with hazards and a history of rock relationships being, well, rocky. Within the pop pairings there are more Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston examples than there are successful ones like Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Regine Chassagne. If both partners are leaders in their bands, they obviously have strong personalities. And if they’re in the same band, that’s even more challenging. Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova made a lovely musical couple in the movie “Once,” and in their band, the Swell Season, the pair made a convincing case for the existence of true love. But when we spoke with SONJA FLEMMING/CBS

Hansard a few years ago, he said the romance route was not productive for their art: “We kind of tried it out, and decided it wasn’t for us.” Blake Hazard and John Dragonetti continue to shine as a beacon of wedded hope. In their band, The Submarines, they lyrically lay out their quarrels.

“Without getting into it too much, it’s been up and down,” said Dragonetti when we spoke to him this past spring. “We’re trying to figure it out. It gives us stuff to write about.” Hazard chimed in, “I don’t think there’s quite a way for writing about things without pulling any punches.” Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast, who dates Wavves singer and guitarist Nathan Williams, told Metro last year that the hardest part of dating another musician in the spotlight is the public’s perception. “It’s not like we were like, ‘Oh hey, we both play music, let’s start dating,’” she said. “We’ve known each other for five or six years.” PAT HEALY

Instead, let’s focus on how to get a job in your field instead of settling for a random position at a company you don’t want to work for. A new millennial career study conducted by American Express and Harris Interactive shows that nearly 70 percent of recent grads are either not working or working at a job that’s not in their field of study. You shouldn’t settle for a job that just pays your bills — it will be almost impossible to succeed at a job that isn’t aligned to your passions, strengths and person-

Is the ‘Freshman 15’ just a myth? College students do gain some weight, but it’s far less than popularly believed, shows a new study The idea that college freshmen gain an average of 15 pounds in their first year of school is simply untrue, the co-author of a new study said last week. In fact, the average is really between 2.4 pounds for women and 3.4 pounds for men. “Not only is there not a ‘Freshman 15,’ there doesn’t appear to be even a ‘College 15’,” says Jay Zagorsky, research scientist at Ohio State University’s Center for Human Resource Research and co-author of a study on college weight gain.

WWW.METRO.US/ EDUCATION

No more than 10 percent of all college freshmen gained 15 pounds or more — and a quarter of freshmen reported losing weight during their first year. The results show that college students gain weight steadily during their college years, with women gaining on average seven to nine pounds, and men between 12 and 13 pounds.

What they considered:

Zagorsky says that most of us do gain weight as we get older, and “it is not college that leads to weight gain — it is becoming a young adult.” The study, conducted with the University of Michigan Dearborn, used information from a study of more than 7,000 people nationwide. The National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1997 interviewed people between the ages of 13 and 17 in 1997 and continues to interview the same people each year since then. REUTERS

A variety of factors thought to be associated with freshman weight gain were considered, including living in a dormitory, going to school full or part time, pursuing a two-year or four-year degree and heavy alcohol drinking (the consumption of six or more drinks on at least four days per month). What made a significant difference in weight gain was heavy drinking. Heavy drinkers gained less than a pound more than students who did not drink.

The researchers also examined what happened to the students' weight after graduation and found they typically gained another 1.5 pounds a year in the first four years after college.

How to tap into your inner genius

Genius generators Rudan recommends finding the following types of people to help you bring out your full potential. Yodas: Your mentors

“Take time to do a selfdiagnosis of the six ingredients that I argue contribute to genius: values, passion, creative abilities, strength, skills and expertise. Think, ‘in my own life, what are my values, creative abilities and passions?’ I consider those to be a person’s soft personal assets. People have been conditioned to focus on their professional identity, so they don’t really think about their values. Then I ask them to think about their professional hard assets, which are strengths, skills and expertise. When I ask people to tell me their strengths, a lot of people know because this is what they are measured against in their performance evaluations. The next challenge is to identify where the soft and the hard intersect. That, to me, is where genius resides: It’s between the heart and the mind, between what you love and what you are good it. A lot of us check half of ourselves at the re-

volving doors of our offices — we can no longer do that if we want to be competitive, innovative. You think only the logic, strategic and professional side of who you are matters at work, but that is no longer the case. The whole self matters.”

Health care administration promising in 2012 There’s no such thing as a recession-proof job. But health care, specifically on the administration end, is looking increasingly secure. American corporations, even attempted to not pay federal income taxes I would be in federal prison faster then a Republican could vote down a tax increase. The double standard is truly killing America. Companies are sitting on trillions of dollars and the GOP wants to cut benefits to the old and sick, who have not only paid for but earned those benefits.

The other half of the blame resides with the traitors on Wall Street who bet against America and purposely tanked not only business but the entire economy for their own gain while with their other hands they took billions in taxpayer money which they then ruthlessly used to bankrupt and destroy any small business they could. Time for Americans to wake up and realize that the free markets have been gone for a long time and American business no longer operates by capitalism.

Ugly history repeats itself

24 GIANTS (6-2)

20 PATRIOTS (5-3)

Patriots lose second straight game in a repeat of Super Bowl crusher Eli Manning too much again in closing minutes Offense mediocre, but it gives New England a shot But the defense can’t hold the line

What went wrong ...

Good day, bad day

1

Special teams — This award goes for both sides. The Giants gave the Patriots life by fumbling a punt return, although the Pats could only muster a field goal. What did the Pats do shortly after? Returned the favor, thanks to a Julian Edelman fumble.

2

Everything offense — Forget that last scoring drive. Where was the offense before that? Tom Brady and the Pats need to be better — especially with their terrible defense. New England won’t win many games when they score just 20 points and Brady turns over the ball three times.

Jake Ballard was the hero for the Giants yesterday.

What went right for the Pats ...

1

Getting Spiked — Midway through the first quarter, Brandon Spikes delivered a monster, clean hit on Giants tight end Jake Ballard. Somehow, he held onto the ball. It was a great football sequence, and a play that we haven’t seen much around the NFL this season.

2

First-half defense — If you would have said Saturday that the Giants wouldn’t score a single point until the third quarter, you’d have been laughed out of the sports bar. But that was precisely the case yesterday. The Pats defense was actually very good for the first 30 minutes. (Weird, right?) Unfortunately, the Pats offense couldn’t get them any points, and the ‘D’ was gassed by the end of the game.

3

Welker does it again — Wes Welker did just about all he could yesterday, making nine catches for 136 yards. Tight end/Twitter superstar Rob Gronkowski was right behind him with eight catches for 101 yards and a touchdown. That was about it for the receiving game, though. Deion Branch mustered just two catches, and Chad Ochocinco was held without a reception for the third straight game.

Good day The Dolphins finally have a win in 2011. Matt Moore threw for 244 yards and three TDs yesterday as the AFC East cellar-dwellers hammered the Chiefs, 31-3. Reggie Bush had 92 rushing yards and a TD for Miami, which was actually outpossessed, 34:39-25:21.

3

Last stand — As bad as the Pats offense looked yesterday, it put them in position to win late. But again, the ‘D’ didn’t show up when it mattered most. A team with Super Bowl dreams can’t give up the kind of drive Eli Manning put together. JIMMY TOSCANO

Bad day

The streaks that ended yesterday

Overall Before yesterday, the Patriots had won 20 straight regular-season home games, and 18 against NFC teams.

The Pats QB, meanwhile, had been on the field for a stunning 31 consecutive regular-season wins in Foxborough.

Next for the Pats New England visits the Jets for a Sunday nighter this week (8:20 p.m., NBC, 98.5 FM). The Patriots beat New York 30-21 on Oct. 9. The New England defense shined in that one, surrendering just 255 yards.

Let’s hope Andrew Luck looks good in blue and white. The putrid Colts dropped to 0-9 on the season yesterday with a 31-7 loss at home against the Falcons. Atlanta WR Julio Jones had the game of his short career, catching three passes for two TDs and 131 yards — a 43.7 ypc average.

Bad memories from Patriots’ rematch defeat Streak-busting loss reminiscent of Super Bowl ‘L’ that ended perfect season Close, no cigar for Brady GETTY IMAGES

It was nearly four years ago when Randy Moss caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady with 2:42 left in Super Bowl XLII, all but ensuring a Patriots perfect season. We all know how that one ended. New England yesterday had its shot at redemption against the very same Giants team that denied them a title. The Pats lost. And — as if to crush New England fans even more — the ending was almost exactly the same as the Super Bowl. In 2008, New York quarterback Eli Manning threw to Plaxico Burress from the Patriots 13 with 35 seconds on the clock. Burress made an athletic grab, and the Giants coasted in with a 17-14 victory, snatched from the jaws of a 14-10 deficit. Yesterday, Brady hit Rob Gronkowski for a 14-yard TD with 1:36 to play, giving New England a 20-17 lead. But again, Manning was

man enough. He marched the Giants 80 yards in 1:24, and capped the comeback with a 1-yard scoring pass to Jake Ballard. Somewhere, David Tyree was smiling. METRO

Jets stake their claim to AFC East with win

GETTY IMAGES

New York beats Buffalo, moves into three-way tie for first All three teams sitting at 5-3 overall The Jets stuffed Fred Jackson on a fourth-and-inches play in the fourth and shut down the high-powered Buffalo Bills offense on the way to a 27-11 road win yesterday. New York’s victory, combined with losses by Buffalo and New England, turned the race for the AFC East into a dead heat. The Jets, Bills and Patriots are all sitting at 5-3 midway through the season.

On the air Sunday Though Mutai’s 2:03:02 in Boston is the fastest marathon ever run, it does not count as an official world record: The Hub course is too downhill and straight.

Another one for Mutai Geoffrey Mutai is back at it. Seven months after he ran the fastest marathon ever in Boston, the Kenyan won yesterday’s New York City Marathon in dominating fashion. His time of 2:05:06 smashed the previous NYC course record of 2:07:43. METRO

Patriots at Jets 8:20 p.m., NBC, 98.5 FM

New York hosts New England on Sunday night. Led by Jackson, the NFL’s second-leading rusher, Buffalo entered the game averaging more than 30 points a game. But the Jets’ division-best defense limited quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to 191 yards — and the Bills to a season low in points. Meanwhile, New York scored 17 points in less than seven minutes in the second half to win its third straight game. The Jets never trailed in the division grudge match.

The Jets drew even with the Patriots yesterday.
