Jakobson renters take to Twitter, Tumblr to air landlord woes Tales of disrepair rampant online Forget the streets — angry tenants are now taking to the tweets. A group of renters has decided to speak out against their landlord, Jakobson Properties, creating a Twitter handle and Tumblr account to cull accounts of what they say is neglect in their buildings. “We kept complaining about things and never saw any results,” said John, the East Village resident who created @Jakobson_Fix_It on Nov. 7. He lives in a Jakobsonowned building and didn’t want to give his last name out of fear of repercussion. “We want to hold Jakobson

Anonymous residents had the following to say about Jakobson: “During the snow storm the ‘roof leaked’ into my apartment. I called maintenance and this guy came and gave me PAPER TOWELS and PLASTIC WRAP.” “If it weren’t bad enough that they hadn’t repainted before I moved in, they didn’t bother to remove the former tenant before I moved in!”

Audit: MTA overpaying for overtime A unit of the MTA’s MetroNorth railroad abused overtime rules to inflate compensation by almost $1 million and future pension payments by $5.5 million, an audit by New York state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli showed. Supervisors for the signal construction unit, which worked on Metro-North’s Hudson and Harlem lines, assigned employees to nighttime duty even though they had day shifts, the audit found. The switch then triggered a federal requirement that the workers rest while earning full pay during their regular shift the next day. Of the unit’s 30 work-

Comedian Eddie Murphy bowed out yesterday as host of the upcoming Oscars, one day after producer Brett Ratner who had lured Murphy into the role also exited following an uproar from his use of a gay slur. “I appreciate how Eddie feels about losing his creative partner, Brett Ratner, and we all wish him well,” Tom Sherak, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which puts on the Oscars, said in a statement. Chronically sick Americans lag behind in access to and payment of health care We spend more, though Americans who have a chronic illness or serious health problems are more likely to struggle to pay their medical bills or have problems getting needed care than adults with similar problems in other highincome countries, a survey released yesterday found. The poll of more than 18,000 adults in the United States and 10 other highincome countries found that Americans were most likely to have problems getting needed care because of the cost, or to have medical debt, according to data released by the Commonwealth Fund. “Despite spending far more on health care than

any other country, the United States practically stands alone when it comes to people with illness or chronic conditions having difficulty affording health

care and paying medical bills,” Commonwealth Fund president Karen Davis said in a statement. “This is a clear indication of the urgent need for Affordable Care Act reforms geared toward improving coverage and controlling health care costs.” The 2011 telephone survey included people who said they were in fair or poor health, those who had surgery in the prior two years, or those who had been treated for a serious illness or injury in the prior year. It found that 42 percent of the 1,200 U.S. adults with health problems in the survey went without care because of costs. REUTERS

THE WORD

Metro’s Dorothy Robinson shares her take on the world of gossip

Talking points The feed ... Checking in with some of Hollywood’s biggest names to see what they’ve been up to — in their own words, in 140 characters or fewer. Today, Justin Bieber is looking ahead, Nathan Fillion is a man on a mission, Mindy Kaling is heading to the movies and Seth MacFarlane isn’t convinced. @justinbieber so this past week and even today every rumor and lie about me possible has been coming out in the press. Just need to ignore it. @NathanFillion I am determined to find out what @jimmyfallon smells like. A few guesses: Cotton Candy Old Spice Old cotton candy, spiced. @mindykaling I think I’m excited for Jack & Jill because it seems like one of those movie parody trailers from Tropic Thunder @SethMacFarlane I can’t buy the Superfriends. The “super” part is believable, but no way they’re genuinely friends.

Though they’ve yet to file for divorce more than a year after separating, David Arquette says his marriage to Courteney Cox is definitely over. When pressed by Howard Stern during a radio interview if he would break up with new girlfriend Christina McLarty and move back in with Cox if she asked, Arquette gave a simple “no.” And while Stern has previously gotten plenty of information out of Arquette, the recent “Dancing with the Stars” contestant is looking to stay more tightlipped going forward: “I’m trying to keep my personal life personal,” he says. “It’s very hard for me because I’m a very honest person.”

Town is warned about Harry Prince Harry has moved on to Gila Bend, Ariz., for the final leg of his helicopter training in the U.S. — and his reputation has apparently preceded him. “We have some very pretty girls here,” Gila Bend Mayor Ron Henry tells the Daily Mail. “Some of the dads won’t take too kindly to a prince fornicating the night away and drinking into the small hours. It is a very quiet town with a lot of good Christian people. This isn’t a party town.” And yes, he said “fornicating.”

enny Craig attracts, let’s say, “midlevel” celebs to be their spokespeople. Sara Rue, Valerie Bertinelli, Phylicia Rashad and Jason Alexander are among those who have been paid handsomely to shill the company. But they must have paid buckets of cash to afford their latest spokeswoman, Mariah Carey. The company’s big celeb get was revealed yesterday at New York City’s Four Seasons. Carey arrived 20 minutes late to the conference and was escorted all the way to the stage to what we thought would be to take questions from reporters, which is why we were there. Instead, she was just interviewed by Gayle King about her involvement with Jenny Craig, which, by the way, is now just called “Jenny.” Carey says she started Jenny in July and has lost 30 pounds so far. She told King she was approached by three different weight loss companies while pregnant but picked Jenny because she clicked with the people. “Some other suitors have great money, have great ... whatever it is that their concepts are — I didn’t really connect with the people, and this was only over the phone at first. The first time I spoke

with the executors at Jenny it was like we really clicked.” But Carey didn’t discuss the diet exclusively: We also learned little personal tidbits about her, like the fact that she enjoys taking business calls while in the bath-

tub. “Like all day every day when I was pregnant, [I was] in the bath, with a towel, seriously, doing business calls, talking to lawyers with water splashing,” she revealed. “[My trainer] Bernardo and I were doing exercises mainly in the water.” As she demo’ed some of her aquatic moves, she made sure to look good in the process: “Let me do it a more elegantly for the photo — please don’t get a bad angle.” Carey says that she was so embarrassed by her pregnant body that she never went naked. Anywhere. “I was never nude. I had a towel on in the tub, I had clothing on in the tub,” she told King. “I’m not lying. You think I would let Nick see me looking rancid like that?” Rancid? One thing’s for sure: Mariah Carey will not becoming the spokesman for Earth Mothers International anytime soon. —With additional reporting by Meredith Engel

Also ... Here are some more highlights from yesterday’s press conference:

Mariah doesn’t own a scale, and the last time she weighed herself was when her single “My All” was out. Her twins have a website, www.dembabies.com. She bought an ultrasound machine during her pregnancy. The conference room was decked out with mood lighting, a white fur rug and white leather chairs. She has a penchant for using the word “dahhling.” She actually does the twocheek air-kiss. Really! Like you would expect any less.

ideo games and dancing go together like chocolate and anchovies, yet games that make us do the truffle shuffle in front of family and friends have been selling like gangbusters. Titles like “Just Dance” and “Dance Central” perch atop the sales charts like wellchoreographed pigeons. Here are two more — “Dance Central 2” for the Xbox 360 Kinect and “Everybody Dance” for PS3 Move — vying to cut a rug into our wallets.

‘Dance Central 2’ Console: Xbox 360 Kinect Microsoft Grade:

The game that managed to outpace Wii Sports in the “your co-worker that hates video games inexplicably loves this” contest is back for a second helping. Thanks to the magical elves lurking in the Kinect, this sequel follows where the first title left off. Specifically, the way you dance in real

life is the way you dance on your TV. See? Magic. This would be a lowly tech demo if there wasn’t a good game to back it up. Thankfully, there is. “Dance Central 2” ups the ante with more songs, more challenges and, finally, simultaneous multiplayer support. Now you can settle that age-old dispute between friends as to who would fare best in a dance battle. Hey, whatever floats your boat.

‘Everybody Dance’ Console: PS3 Move Sony Grade:

It’s about time Sony and their Wii-esque wand attachment got a great dancing game. The device is called the Move, after all. “Everybody Dance” uses the power of the PlayStation Eye in tandem with the controller to create something that is close to the level of full body motion control seen

in “Dance Central.” It’s still fun though. This game brings some cool bells and whistles to the table. Each track features several difficulty levels and comes equipped with the official music video. There’s also a mode that allows you to partner with friends in coordinated routines. If you’re gonna get hammered at home, you could do worse than Sony’s new dancing baby.

If you want to win, you must think in terms of victory. Otherwise failure takes over. Pisces Feb. 20-March 20. If experience has taught you that a certain topic agitates a friend, stay off of it or refuse to engage if another brings it up. Failing to do so could cause a nasty dust-up. Aries March 21-April 19. Be on your toes, because someone who knows how to manipulate your generous nature could hijack your finances.

Why is Romney the GOP star?

Doctor wasn’t being careful

RE: “NEW CAIN SLOGAN: NEIN, NEIN, NEIN!”: Though

RE: “MJ: THE CULT OF IRRESPONSIBILITY”: I am tired

it’s valid to follow through the accusations of sexual harassment that will inevadibly bury Cain, we’re allowing Romney a free pass to regroup and recover uncontested. Let’s have some discussion about how a flip-flopping, big government career politician and millionaire CEO is trying yet again to buy the Republican nomination. GLENN KORNEGAY,

of everybody talking about the guilty hearing of Dr. Conrad Murray for Michael Jackson’s death as if it was MJ’s fault. MJ’s drug use was not on trial

How to Test Us Take your valuable items to other dealers before bringing them to us. Have them give you legitimate written offers. Then bring your items and your written offers to us. No one can guarantee to pay the highest prices all the time. But we believe the buyers we have chosen will beat most legitimate written offers. Why Are We Telling You To Get Prices From Others? Our buyers find it much easier to buy items of value from their customers after they have had previous offers. So it is in our own self interest to have you get written offers before coming to us. We also find that our customers are happier because they have the peace of mind of knowing they received a fair price. Why Our Buyers May Be Able To Pay More Our group of buyers will be here for only a few days. But in those few days, some of our buyers will buy more than many dealers buy in a year. Because of the volume of merchandise they handle, some of our buyers have developed world-wide markets and clients to liquidate their purchases at the best prices, which is one of the keys to why they can pay more than other dealers. What Makes Us Different? Most dealers who buy and sell items of value specialize in only a few areas. As a result, they are likely to make low offers for items in markets they are not familiar with. For example, almost all jewelers specialize in new items. They do not often deal with old or used watches, which means they are unfamiliar with the true markets for such items. So if you have a used watch to sell, chances are a jeweler will make an offer on the low side because he does not want to make a mistake and pay too much. The same thing applies to almost all items of value, such as lady items, art, jewelry, etc., that you bring to normal dealers. Anderson, Carter, Bascom & Assoc. and Estate Buyer by MJD is different. Our volume buying has allowed us to bring together a large group of knowledgeable buyers. And although we do not control what our buyers pay, we believe they are comfortable paying prices that beat legitimate written offers from other dealers.

“UP TO” PRICES IMPORTANT: All prices are based on rarity & condition. If an item is in poor condition, its value will be low. If an item is very rare, and in superb condition, it might be worth more than the “up to” prices listed. For example, a 1919 10¢ could be worth $1,400 in very high-quality condition or less than $1 in poor condition. In most cases, the “up to” prices listed in this advertisement are for items of exceptional rarity and quality. Chances are, you will not have those items. But we are willing to take the time to look at your items, just in case free of charge and give you our opinion. SEE NEXT 2 PAGES FOR MORE ITEMS WE ARE LOOKING FOR AND LOCATIONS!

‘Show Me’ by Jessica Sutta When Gaga first came on the scene, she received a lot of criticism for being derivative. It seems that with Jessica Sutta’s “Show Me,” we have our first real example of a song that is derivative of pop’s leading Lady. Listen to the robotic way Sutta delivers the line, “bow, bow, have you ever thought about” and it’s almost in the exact same cadence as the “walk, walk fashion baby” part of “Bad Romance.” These complaints are not to suggest that Sutta, a former Pussycat Doll, won’t eventually find her own identity. “Show Me” is a fine song. The melody is strong, and the thumping beat has helped it hover at the top of the Billboard dance chart for a few weeks. And the lyrics are interesting: In a pop song, historically the most empty of all expressions, the singer is pleading for you to reveal “everything hidden in your heart, all your fears.” PAT HEALY

True, the old saying holds little sway today (oysters are just as safe to eat in May, June, July and August as they are in any month with an R in its name), but don’t that let stop you from overindulging this month.

Niners ready to Gore Giants

MICHAEL ZAGARIS/GETTY IMAGES

Brady had three turnovers against the Giants.

PATRIOTS VS. JETS

Jets ‘D’ wary of struggling Patriots With Peyton Manning out for the season with a neck injury, Jets head coach Rex Ryan called the Patriots Tom Brady the best quarterback in the league. But as good as Brady is, he’s still having a down year. Over the past three games — two of them New England losses — Brady has thrown four interceptions and been sacked eight times. New York is smelling blood and the target they’re circling is Brady. “They spread you out; they’re real disciplined,” Jets cornerback Kyle Wilson said. “When a guy’s

not doing their job, that’s exactly where they’re going to hit. We got to understand matchups, because that’s a big aspect of the game for New England.” There is frustration in Foxboro as they try to pinpoint why Brady is tossing so many more interceptions. Last season, he was picked off just four times. This year, that number is already at 10. “I think you can look at each play and obviously there’s something that went wrong. A couple balls have been tipped, a couple balls I’m sure he’d like to have back. I’d say for the most part, I think he’s throwing to the right guy,” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said. “The first time up there, we didn’t play some things — technique — as well as we should have,” Wilson said. KRISTIAN DYER

The Giants are coming off an impressive road win against the Patriots, but this Sunday’s matchup with the upstart 49ers may actually be the tougher challenge. Sure, the Patriots have all-world quarterback Tom Brady, but what San Francisco brings may be more detrimental to Big Blue’s defense — a power running game. Frank Gore is perhaps the most talented of the Niners’ skill position players and the offense has been molded around him. The seven-year vet has gashed opponents this season and has rewarded rookie head coach Jim Harbaugh’s faith with a superb season (782 yards, 4.9 yards per carry and five touchdowns). “You know they’re going run. Gore has [a franchiserecord] five-straight games with 100 yards and they have good receivers and a tight end who’s very rare,” Coughlin said. “Plus, they

Brown bag Antonio Brown has racked up 34 targets in his last three games. And with Emmanuel Sanders (knee) out 2-3 weeks, he’ll sustain that. Brown is a big-time playmaker in what is now a pass-first offense. Don’t be afraid to ride him.

Injury of the year It’s unlikely that owners were able to overcome Jamaal Charles’s seasonending Week 2 ACL tear. He had no clear handcuff and getting running back help during the season is brutal. While Kenny Britt’s knee injury

was painful, there are enough wideouts out there to overcome it.

Best performance

NFL handcuffs Depth isn’t as important as handcuffs now that the bye weeks are gone. Some must-owns:

1

Ben Tate, RB, HOU — If Arian Foster went down, Tate would be a top-5 kind of option. The Texans’ offensive line is dominant.

2

Kendall Hunter, RB, SF — This runheavy offense is a back’s dream. Frank Gore has an ankle tweak now.

3

Matt Flynn, QB, GB — Owners can’t risk losing Aaron Rodgers. Flynn would be a top-10 option if given the chance for the Pack.

In Week 4 against the Broncos, Aaron Rodgers piled up more fantasy points than Vernon Davis or Mario Manningham have all season. He threw for 408 yards, ran for 36 more and scored six total touchdowns.

Top waiver add Victor Cruz wasn’t drafted coming out of UMass. He also wasn’t drafted in any fantasy leagues. But he has bucked the odds, establishing himself as a highly-productive No. 3 receiver and outscoring guys like Larry Fitzgerald and Brandon Marshall along the way.

Roy Helu RB, Redskins Locked in as the every-down back in an offense that loves to check down to its backs. Major PPR upside.

Aaron Rodgers is on pace to score 52 total touchdowns this season.

Laurent Robinson WR, Cowboys With Miles Austin out 2-4 weeks, Robinson is going to be a target hog. In this offense, he’ll have WR2 value.

Cashman won’t rush signings

Those expecting any significant Yankee transactions in the next few weeks can plan to be disappointed. In between various charitable appearances, general manager Brian Cashman is getting a gauge for the free agent starting pitching market, led by C.J. Wilson and Yu Darvish.

Jacoby Ford WR, Raiders Ford has replaced Darrius Heyward-Bey as a starter. Has elite speed to catch up to bombs from Carson Palmer.

Cashman made an appearance at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square for the New York Cares winter coat drive yesterday and Saturday he will be in Vermont for a fundraiser for farmers impacted by Hurricane Irene. Then he will head to the GM meetings in Milwaukee Monday. The Yankees have not finished initial calls to agents or other GMs.

“I haven’t talked to every team and I haven’t talked to every agent yet,” Cashman said. “I certainly haven’t had one agent tell me what they want financially. No one’s made any demands to me. No one’s made me an offer, so I don’t know what these current free agents are looking for yet in terms of years or dollars, and I certainly don’t have every team covered yet (for trade analysis) — although I certainly am trying.” LARRY FLEISHER

Yanks’ Posada says no chance he’s back GETTY IMAGES

Posada is undecided if he will return to baseball.

Yankees catcher says he will not be back in pinstripes Will take offseason to decide whether he will retire Has received other MLB offers The core four is now the core two. Yankees catcher and designated hitter Jorge Posada stated at his foundation dinner last night that there was no chance he would be back as a Yankee next season. And the decision now was whether he wanted to sign with another team or retire. “I don’t think there’s not even a percentage of chance that I can come back,” Posada said at the dinner. Posada also said his agent

Jorge Posada 17 spent 17 seasons in the Bronx playing for the Yankees — every year of his major league career.

“The New York Yankees for me is my second family.” CATCHER JORGE POSADA, NEW YORK YANKEES

has received multiple offers from other clubs, though he did not elaborate on which.

Posada came up with the Yankees in 1995 and 1996, playing briefly, before playing 60 games in 1997. He took over fulltime from now Yankees manager Joe Girardi in 1998 when he played in 111 games and batted .268

with 17 home runs. He would start at catcher for the next 11 seasons before moving to designated hitter this past season. “I don’t know if I want to play. I don't know if I want to stay home,” Posada said. “I will always be a Yankee. The New York Yankees for me is my second family. It will be tough to put on another uniform for real and learn another set of rules and all that stuff.” MARK OSBORNE
