Suspension a risk for Tufts nude runners Tufts students are being warned to keep their pants on this December. Officials at the university are threatening to suspend students for an entire semester in the spring if they disobey a ban on the annual Naked Quad Run, which was nixed by officials last March.

According to the university’s website, the event was canceled “following a problem-plagued [run] on the last day of classes” in December 2010. Last week, a unanimous vote passed by the school’s Committee on Student Life backed that ban adding that

any student apprehended defying the order, “constituted by public nudity or public intoxication” will be subject to disciplinary suspension for a semester. The university warned students that even attempting to organize the run subjects them to those actions.

Mental health test for Harvard faker Judge: Adam Wheeler tried to fake his way in somewhere again Will undergo mental health evaluation before sentencing for probation violation Adam Wheeler really wants to be a Harvard graduate. The Delaware man who pleaded guilty last year to faking his way into Harvard University was found to have violated his probation when he sent a résumé to a Somerville company and claimed he had been a Harvard student. “It appears … that Mr. Wheeler suffers from a mental illness,” Judge Diane Kottymer said Thursday during Wheeler’s court hearing. She ordered that he be held at a mental health facility in Bridgewater until Dec. 23 and undergo an evaluation. He will be sentenced after the evaluation. Wheeler’s lawyer, Steven Sussman, said his client applied for an unpaid internship at U.S. Green Data this fall. Prosecutors said that Wheeler wrote on the résumé that he attended Harvard and won a Rockefeller grant. An official at the company was a Harvard graduate and was familiar with Wheeler’s case. That’s when the authorities were notified of the fraudulent résumé. When he pleaded guilty last year, Kottmyer sentenced Wheeler to two and a half years in jail with that sentence suspended after 30 days in prison. He was also ordered to pay Harvard more than $45,000 in restitution and to not represent himself as being affiliated with Harvard.

MassDOT workers indicted

Adam Wheeler is led into the courtroom before Judge Diane Kottmyer on Thursday on charges he violated his probation by sending a résumé stating he was a Harvard graduate.

Sussman said that Wheeler, who was out of work at the time he submitted his résumé, suffered from financial pressure. He also said the position Wheeler applied for was an unpaid internship. Wheeler’s parents attended the hearing, but said they hadn’t spoken to him in a week.

How he got here Wheeler was able to transfer into Harvard by falsifying his transcripts, recommendations and SAT scores, which he claimed were a perfect 1600. He falsely claimed he

graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover and also used plagiarized material to win a pair of writing contests. He was caught when he applied for the Rhodes and Fulbright scholarships.

Northeastern University was awaiting a British invasion as comedian Russell Brand geared up to perform at the school Friday for Homecoming week. But days before his scheduled arrival, Brand promoted his “intelligent but filthy” act, as he describes it, by asking the school’s president, Dr. Joseph Aoun, for a handson medical exam in a YouTube video. Addressing NU coeds, Brand jokingly calls on Aoun to attend the performance and conduct a checkup on him to prove his credentials. “I want him to carry out a full prostate examination

on me, to be very sure he is a genuine doctor,” Brand says in the video. Brand then says if Aoun can’t perform the procedure on him, he should be able to do one on Aoun. “I have a very special technique. It’s called a nohand rectal examination” jokes Brand, pushing his waist forward. At the end of the 90-sec-

ond video, Brand says “if you’re name is [Aoun], you’re in a lot of trouble,” before making an O-shape with his thumb and index finger. The video, used to invite students to the show, was one of a series for Brand’s current weeklong college comedy tour. In a separate introductory video, Brand says the tour is a chance for him to “understand college life.” “We shall snatch the grapes from the vines and drink wildly. ... And steal the mascots of surrounding colleges, “ he says. STEVE ANNEAR

No one was hurt in the shooting on Friday night. Obama and wife, Michelle, were not in Washington at the time. The number of Americans newly infected with syphilis has fallen for the first time in a decade, but sexually transmitted diseases continue to take a staggering toll on the United States, with 19 million new infections each year at a cost of $17 billion annually. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s annual report on sexually transmitted diseases, which tracks cases of the three reportable STDs — chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis — shows widespread disparities. Overall, blacks and Hispanics in the United States are far more affected by sexually transmitted dis-

vent and treat STDs, they remain one of the more critical challenges in the United States today,” Dr. Kevin Fenton said. While people aged 15 to 24 make up just a quarter of the sexually experienced population in the United States, they represent nearly half of all new infections. The report also found a disproportionate burden of disease among African Americans and Hispanics, Fenton said. For example, he said rates of chlamydia among African Americans are about 1,383 per 100,000, compared with 467 per 100,000 among Hispanics and 166 per 100,000 for whites. REUTERS

Q&A

On this album, you do swing wildly between fun and philosophical. I think that’s just part of my character and my personality and my music. I always find a balance. There’s elements for everyone in there. It’s much like myself, as a person. It’s neutral and relatable to different groups of people. It’s not necessarily geared to one demographic. It’s more like the balance of, you get your ‘hood s—, you get your ignorant s—, you get sexy music, you get passionate moments, you get life moments and you get vulnerable moments. I think that’s what makes my music unique. I find a way to incorporate all those things into one song sometimes — or definitely into one project. METRO/PH

W

hen Canadian rapper Drake found out his latest album, “Take Care,” had leaked online a week before its release, he took to Twitter and in a very practical tone wrote to his 4 million followers, “Listen, enjoy it, buy it if you like it...and take care until next time.” This pragmatic response is telling of Drake’s approach. On “Take Care,” he frequently raps about what he observes with a sense of both realism and optimism. This is present most in songs like “We’ll Be Fine” and “HYFR,” where he says, “I learned working with the negatives could make for a better picture.”

Is it just a given that an album will leak before it comes out, or do you actually try to figure out where the leak came from?

Nah. You know, my last album leaked like 28 days before it came out and that was kind of devastating. I don’t necessarily

know how it happened but I feel that if leaks are somewhat contained — like if your album leaks six or seven days before it’s supposed to come out — I never see it as detrimental or that damaging. These songs have many philosophical lines, like “jealousy is just love and hate combined.” Are these the type of things that you stow away for a while, just waiting to find a place where they’ll fit?

Yeah, there are little pieces that I collect over the months, whether it be in passing conversation or from reading or movies. I pull from all kinds of referhis signature harmonica. I think that the record, the way it was, was done already when he was listening to it. Vocally, we had tracked it out, and me and him have these other plans for a record where we sing together.

ences but I make them my own. I try to never directly take a quote verbatim. I try to make it apply to my life or make it work for me. A lot of it is just stuff we think about and talk about amongst each other — like me, 40 [Drake’s collaborator Noah “40” Shebib] and whoever else is in the studio. It just comes from hours of thinking and reflecting on life. I think one of my biggest things is to be quoted. I grew up reading quotes, studying what intelligent people had to say, what wise people had to say, so I think one of my biggest goals in life is just to be a quoted individual, and to be somebody whose words matter. So you would like to see engraved in stone a line like, “You’re a fine motherf— er, back that ass up.”

[Laughs] Well, I mean, I don’t know if that’s going to be quoted. But there’s obviously moments of messing around, and then you have your profound moments. PAT HEALY

And like the Mats, there is a degree of longing and loneliness beneath the surface of the party proceedings, too. But Deer Tick is

no throwback act. They are writing very much for these times. The song “Main Street,” which they recently performed on Letterman, seems perfect for the age of 24/7 social networking, as McCauley asserts in a desperate rasp: “Miss one day and the whole world casts you out.” “Divine Providence” also has a sonic density that be-

trays its festive atmosphere. So in the studio, are Deer Tick focused or a mess? “I’d say it’s a little bit of both,” says McCauley. “Or maybe one person would be really drunk and nobody else would. It all depended on what time of day you got to the studio.” PAT HEALY

Robert Pattinson

We met ‘Twilight’ stars Robert Pattinson and Ashley Greene and will never wash our tape recorder again Here’s three facts we learned 1) PATTINSON LOVES JUNK FOOD In “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1,” the fourth in the series, newlyweds Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart) finally go all the way. In preparation for the stripped-down honeymoon scene, Pattinson, 25, put in four

“I very rarely exercise and really don’t like going to the gym.” PATTINSON 2) GREENE GETS DRAMATIC His co-star Ashley Greene, 24, who plays Edward’s sister Alice, also shows a new side in the movie, albeit a more emotional one. As the Cullens’ especially talented psychic, Alice is haunted by frightening

months of solid work outs. “Because I very rarely exercise and really don’t like going to the gym, I had to make it extreme,” he says. “I had to cut out beer and cut out junk food, which is basically my entire life, and I had to replace that with going to the gym and working out, basically all day, every day. I went to the gym pretty much at four in the morning and worked out for two hours and then went to work and then ran. It was absolutely exhausting.”

premonitions. “You will see Alice being emotionally tortured and a little tormented inside. She wants to protect and support Bella and the two emotions are in conflict. That was one of the great things of having a saga that gives you [time] to develop your character,” she says.

3) THE BIRTHING SCENE WAS HORRIFIC In this installment — spoiler alert! — Bella becomes pregnant and the baby is half vampire. According to Pattinson and Greene, the birth scene was one of the most memorable during the movie shoot. “The director Bill Condon made some really bloody horror movies early on in his career and we shot it like a straight horror scene,” says Pattinson. “I saw one cut, and if you had added some other music and other sound effects

you wouldn’t want to watch the screen. They could definitely do a version of this movie for adults only.” Greene remembers the day as one of the most hysterical. “We were nervous and didn’t know how to pull this off. It was so intense. You can’t relate to a baby that is destroying its mother. It translates much better on film and it looks good, but when we were filming it nobody knew what was happening!”

Inside the mind of Woody Allen At 76, director Woody Allen is still reaching new heights in his 42 years as a filmmaker. With a staggering 47 films under his belt, Allen could easily be installed in the Mt. Rushmore of American filmmakers alongside Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg and Oliver Stone. But until now, Allen has never allowed a documentary to be made about his work. The man who finally convinced him was Robert Weide. As Allen’s most recent release, “Midnight in Paris” becomes his biggest box office success, PBS airs “Woody Allen: A Documen-

tary” on “American Masters.” Metro asked Weide how he got Allen to relent. Woody Allen has famously never let a film be made about him. How did you do it?

His reluctance to this kind of thing over the years has not been based so much on his fear that somebody would do something outside of his control. I think his problem with it has always been his self-deprecating streak, where he just doesn’t understand how anyone would be interested in doing a documentary on him or why anyone would

be interested in watching it. He and I actually had a $10 bet, which I need to collect on. When he met me, I could never get [this film] financed. And then once I did, his thing was, “No one’s going to put this on the air.” Of course, “American Masters” jumped at it. Now his thing is, “Well, no one’s going to watch it.” His romantic relationships with Diane Keaton and Mia Farrow are epic in the public consciousness. Did you have a hard time getting as much info as you wanted from them?

No. That stuff is of mini-

The first installment of “Woody Allen: A Documentary” airs Sunday at 9 p.m. on PBS.

Q&A Because his films are so personal, Woody Allen fans may feel they know him. What will this documentary reveal that we didn’t know? This guy has a work ethic like nobody else I’ve seen. By the time one film comes out, he’s already shooting the next film. I tried to round out the picture as much as I can. It’s not a psychological study; but when you look at the arc of his life and his career, I think it puts a few things into perspective.

mal interest to me. We do hear a little bit about him and Diane Keaton and Keaton talks about how she had a crush on him right from the beginning. Then with Mia he talks about the genesis of the relationship. Then I deal with what lead to their breakup. ... But I covered that to the extent that I had to because it is part of his narrative. I tried to deal with it honestly and give the information that I thought would cover it. HEIDI PATALANO

Metro’s Dorothy Robinson shares her take on the world of gossip

Talking points

Cavallari takes on Kardashians Oh, snap! I’ve never been a super fan of Kristin Cavallari as, really, I’m not too sure what there is to be impressed by. But I might have a change of heart as she totally called out the Kardashians on “The Billy Bush Show on Wednesday. Here’s the backstory: Life & Style is running a story that Scott Disick, the boyfriend and baby daddy of Kourtney Kardashian, fooled around with Cavallari before hooking up with Kourtney. Kristin says this is “100 percent not true and accused the Kardashians for making news where there is none. (The Kardashians flaming gossip rumors? Never!) “What convenient timing for them. With their show premiering next week and with everything that’s going on for Kim, I feel like they’re trying to take the heat off her, she told Bush. “When there’s a big story like that, they always call you and ask if you want to comment and clearly none of them denied it, so it’s very — it’s really disrespectful to me. ... I’m in a committed relationship. It’s disrespectful to me and Jay [Cutler] and I think it just says a lot about their character. Um, everything that has happened in the past year with the Kardhasians says a lot about their character, Cavallari tells don’t you it like it is. think?

T

he weeks and weeks of “are they or aren’t they gossip are over: Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher are getting a divorce. “It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my sixyear marriage to Ashton, Moore said in statement released by her publicist today. “As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and

Martha Stewart doesn’t freak out about Christmas

While the rest of world plans on upping their Xanax intake to handle the stress of the holidays, Martha Stewart doesn’t even break a sweat. But, really though, was there ever any doubt? While working the red carpet on Wednesday night at the Fourth Annual Martha Stewart Center for Living at Mount Sinai Gala, which honored music impresario Clive Davis, the domestic diva was all smiles and totally at ease while discussing her plans for the holidays. She said the thing

vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life. This is a trying time for me and my family,

and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation. This comes after reports that Moore, 49, and Kutcher, 33, escaped to the Caribbean, hiding out at Bruce Willis’ Turks and

Well, she makes them herself. (Again: Of course she does. She is Martha Stewart; she doesn’t do Wal-Mart.) “I like making things. I like giving things that I’ve made. I actually

love receiving handmade gifts. But reporters on the red carpet did catch Stewart with her guard down just once, when they asked her what she’s giving Jude for Christmas. “I don’t know, I haven’t thought about it yet, she said. “She has everything already. — With additional reporting by Meredith Engel

Caicos home after the uproar over Kutcher’s Twitter gaffe, in which he stood up for Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, according to Us Weekly. “They had to get away. Ashton’s tweeting [about Penn State] was the last straw, a source says. Of course, the retreat also gave the couple a chance to address their marital difficulties stemming from Kutcher’s alleged infidelity. “Things have been very strained, the source adds, “[but] they’re trying to figure things out. And figure it out they did. How sad.

Mo’ Yeater problems Justin Bieber’s problems might not be going away so fast, as reports have surfaced that Mariah Yeater is not actually dropping her paternity suit, having found new lawyers to represent her. But first she needs to do some cleanup work. TMZ has published text messages Yeater sent to a friend suggesting her baby’s father is someone other than Bieber. “pleeeease ERASE ALL MESSAGES from my mom where she says Tristyn is Robbies Son, one message reads, while a second says: “Ill kick u when we get paid im trusting you pleeeease. Her “friends are fiscally savvy; they realized TMZ would pay for text messages before Yeater could.

Sorry, Occupy. This week belonged to ‘Twilight’ While some people in tents were being kicked out of them, others were setting them up — and these vampire lovers were allowed to stay put. Until the reason they were all there — “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1” — actually opened, that is. Here is the vamp-crazed madness that happened this week surrounding every Twihard’s most anticipated film of the year.

1. While Occupy camps across the country were being torn down, a new camp was set up on Sunday in Los Angeles — this time by Twilight fans who waited in line for the premiere. 2. At the U.K. premiere on Wednesday, fans were all smiles as they tried to take a photo with star Robert Pattinson. 3. On Sunday, this “Team Edward” fan was seen at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, Calif., waiting to get in line for the premiere of the movie, which happened Friday. 4. The ultimate “Team Edward” fan arrived at the Los Angeles premiere in a wedding dress, all ready to marry the love of her life — Robert Pattinson. Well, make that

his cut-out. 5. At the same event, Edward Cullen fanatics displayed a “Great Wall of Rob.” 6. Hordes of fans at the U.K. premiere in London on Wednesday were also delighted as they snapped photos with Taylor Lautner.

Darling With the help of some pretty slick special effects and impressive aerialist work, Peter, Tinker and the Darling children soar to new heights as they journey across London to the land of the Lost Boys. Expect lots of oohs and ahs from the gasping crowd as the in-flight ensemble tumbles, flips and displays incredible feats of athleticism along the way. Emily Yetter earns her spot as crowd favorite by making it look so flipping easy to fly without wings and communicate without words in her delightful portrayal of Tinker Bell. And though Chuck Bradley isn’t

exactly the physical embodiment of Peter, his gushing, childlike enthusiasm is perfect for the part. The other huge crowd pleaser is the Darling family nurse Nana, a seemingly simple but lovable old girl manipulated masterfully by puppeteer Joshua Holden. Unlike its Disneyfied counterpart, this “Peter Pan” doesn’t shy away from the dark side of author J. M. Barrie’s tale: The kids are missing for a long period of time, they narrowly escape death at the hands of pirates and mermaids, they nearly drown Michael and Captain Hook slits a throat.

A 360-degree experience “Peter Pan” is performed in the round in a 1,300-seat theater within a tent that is lit with more than 15,000 square feet of highresolution video. Twelve projectors and 10 million pixels create the world’s first 360-degree projected movie for live theater. This is the largest surround CGI venue in the world.

And let’s not forget the little strip tease by the sexy Tiger Lily (Heidi Buehler). This “Peter Pan” has something for everybody. But a big part of its magic is watching the faces of the kids in the audience as they take in the impressive spectacle. ‘Peter Pan’ Through Dec. 30 The threesixty° Theatre City Hall Plaza, Boston $35-$75, 888-772-6849 www.peterpantheshow.com/ boston

Revisiting the original Thanksgiving meal When you carve the bird, be sure to thank the Native Americans Our nation’s first people knew good eats This year, let’s give it up for the originators of our favorite meal of the year: the Native Americans. “Most all of the foods that we associate with Thanksgiving are Native American foods,” says Beverly Cox, the co-author of the recently reissued “Spirit of the Harvest: North American Indian Cooking.” “Sweet potatoes, corn (like cornbread stuffing), the turkey (a native animal to the Americas), cranberries, green beans, pumpkin pie — pumpkins originated in the Americas as well — virtually our whole dinner

“Some 70 percent of the foods eaten in the world today originated in the Americas. Anyone who’s interested in food is interested in American Indian food.” BEVERLY COX came from the Indians.” And while we celebrate Thanksgiving just once a year, in earlier times, giving thanks was a regular occurrence. “There were Thanksgiving ceremonies periodical-

ly throughout the year to punctuate the different harvests,” says Cox. “There would be a Thanksgiving ceremony for the first buffalo, or the first salmon that were caught — they’d treat it with a great ceremony to thank the salmon for giving themselves to feed the people.” So before you stuff your face this year, we recommend giving thanks to the Native Americans for helping your mom come up with that awesome pie. Hidatsa stuffed sugar pumpkin Serves six Many of the Plains tribes originated near the Great Lakes and in the northern woodlands, and thus were familiar with wild rice. It became an important trade item that found its way from Woodland to Prairie tribes. It was then traded for buffalo hides and dried meat from the hunting peoples on the plains who were long removed from their ancestral rice marshes. The Mandan and Hidatsa villages along the Missouri River in what is now central North Dakota were major trading centers for both indigenous and non-Indian foods. These tribes raised pumpkins and

cup wild rice, cooked eggs, beaten teaspoon crushed dried sage teaspoon pepper

squash, and they also traded with tribes to the east and the north — and thus had a more varied diet than their nomadic neighbors.

Ingredients 1

4- to 5-pound sugar pumpkin 2 teaspoons salt ½ teaspoon dry mustard 1-2 tablespoons vegetable oil or rendered fat 1 pound ground venison, buffalo or beef 1 medium onion, chopped

Preheat oven to 350F. Cut the top from the pumpkin and remove seeds and strings. Prick cavity with a fork and rub with one teaspoon of salt and the mustard. Heat oil in a large skillet. Add meat and onion and saute over medium-high heat until browned. Off the heat, stir in wild rice, eggs, remaining salt, sage and pepper. Stuff pumpkin with this mixture. Place a half-inch of water in the bottom of a shallow baking pan.

2

Put the pumpkin in the pan and bake for 1½ hours or until tender. Add more water to the pan as necessary to avoid sticking. Cut pumpkin into wedges, giving each person both pumpkin and stuffing.

ccording to recent opinion polls, most Americans agree that financial criminals on Wall Street and corrupt politicians in Washington have conspired to enrich an already wealthy minority at the expense of the working classes. But as the Occupy movement hits its second month, many still view protesters in negative terms, using words like “lazy,” “ignorant” and “smelly.” As the Daily News reports: “Polling shows the public supports the message of the Occupy Wall Street movement even if people have reservations about the encampments themselves.” What gives? Sadly, a lot of good people see protesters as unwashed hippie remnants of the ’60s counterculture revolution. Perception is

When Mankins, Patriots vs. Chiefs GETTY IMAGES

What goes into a no-huddle offense? For starters, a lot of sweat. Whether it’s on the offensive or defensive side, when a team is successful in the no-huddle like the Patriots, you can bet that there will be a lot of huffing and puffing. Take All-Pro offensive lineman Logan Mankins, who is widely considered one of the best in the league. He’s not going to tell you he loves that style of offense, but you can bet he knows it’s a big recipe for success. “It gets pretty tiring … but they’re getting tired, too, so that’s the main thing,” Mankins said. “It’s nice to do it occasionally when it’s working good. We like it. The D-line, I think they get more tired than we actually do because they have to chase the ball.” While some defenses elect not to substitute — or can’t in time — when offenses speed things up, some do get off the field. That’s when you may see a fresh defensive lineman get to the quarterback against a winded offensive line. “Anyone that is 300 pounds and has to run play

Flutie strikes! Buffalo Bills coach Wade Phillips benched QB Doug Flutie before the 1999 playoffs, despite the fact he had gone 10-5. The Flutie-less Bills then lost to Tennessee thanks to the controversial “Music City Miracle.” The Bills have never returned to the playoffs. And any team that has employed Phillips since then has suffered incredible misfortune. The Houston Texans, where Phillips is the defensive coordinator, is the latest victim of the Curse of Flutie. Houston was enjoying the greatest season in its history: a franchise-best 7-3 record, on pace for its first playoff appearance and the AFC’s No. 1 seed, and the top scoring differential in the AFC (+107), a reliable indicator of Super Bowl potential. But on Monday we learned that the team had lost Pro Bowl-caliber QB Matt Schaub for the season. Some call it coincidence. We call it another triumph for the dreaded Curse of Flutie.

Young lefty takes top pitching award in dominating fashion Three Philly starters finish in top 5 of voting Leading the league in the three biggest pitching categories is a guaranteed Cy Young award. The latest example was Clayton Kershaw, who received 27 of 32 first-point votes, and 207 points, to become the 10th Dodger to win the award. Just like AL CY Young Award winner Justin Verlander, Kershaw was tied for the league lead with 21 wins and led with 248 strikeouts and a 2.28 ERA. Red Sox seek to interview Valentine It’s back to the drawing board for the Red Sox as the Chicago Cubs announced the hiring of Dale Sveum yesterday — the only candidate Boston had granted a second interview. The Red Sox have reportedly shown interest in former Mets manager Bobby Valentine. Valentine, who currently works for ESPN as a studio analyst, will reportedly interview for the position left vacant by Terry Francona sometime this week. With Boston reopening their search, Valentine appears to be near the top of the list. Valentine, 61, managed the Mets for seven years and made

the World Series in 2000 before, being fired after the 2002 season. He was also the manager of the Texas Rangers from 1985 to 1992, but never made it to the postseason. Boston was believed to be interested in a candidate with relatively little managerial experience — the direct opposite of the outspoken Valentine, who managed 15 years in the majors. Phillies bench coach Pete Mackanin, Indians bench coach Sandy Alomar and Blue Jays coach Torey Lovullo, all interviewed by the Sox, are almost completely inexperienced as managers. General manager Ben Cherington had originally said he’d name a manager before next Thursday, but revised that yesterday, saying it might now drag on longer. MARK OSBORNE

B’s Chara cleared of charges

Notre Dame, BC meet for 21st time Linebackers lead two hungry defenses Game slated for Saturday All eyes will be on the linebackers Saturday. That’s because two of the best in college football will be on display, when Boston College travels to South Bend to battle longtime rival Notre Dame. For the Eagles, the lone bright spot in a disappointing 3-7 season — the school’s worst since 1998 — has been All-American Luke Kuechly. The junior was named a finalist Thursday for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, which is presented to the national de-

to identify him because he’s a savvy player.” Meanwhile, Notre Dame boasts its own stuffer in Manti Te’o. The Irish backer leads his team with 91 tackles and ranks third nationally in sacks by a middle linebacker (4.5). “He is one of the best players out there on defense,” Kuechly said.

Kuechly has 168 tackles for BC this season.

Bruins captain Zdeno Chara will not face criminal charges for a vicious hit last season, according to a Quebec prosecutor. Chara’s hit put Montreal’s Max Pacioretty out for the season, after he broke a vertebra. The Bruins defender received a game misconduct penalty, but wasn’t suspended or fined. Following public outcry from fans, Montreal police launched an independent investigation. But the case was officially closed Thursday when prosecutors issued a statement saying no court would find Chara guilty of a crime. METRO
