Suspension a risk for Tufts nude runners Tufts students are being warned to keep their pants on this December. Officials at the university are threatening to suspend students for an entire semester in the spring if they disobey a ban on the annual Naked Quad Run, which was nixed by officials last March.

According to the university’s website, the event was canceled “following a problem-plagued [run] on the last day of classes” in December 2010. Last week, a unanimous vote passed by the school’s Committee on Student Life backed that ban adding that

Mental health test for Harvard faker Judge: Adam Wheeler tried to fake his way in somewhere again Will undergo mental health evaluation before sentencing for probation violation Adam Wheeler really wants to be a Harvard graduate. The Delaware man who pleaded guilty last year to faking his way into Harvard University was found to have violated his probation when he sent a résumé to a Somerville company and claimed he had been a Harvard student. “It appears … that Mr. Wheeler suffers from a mental illness,” Judge Diane Kottymer said Thursday during Wheeler’s court hearing. She ordered that he be held at a mental health facility in Bridgewater until Dec. 23 and undergo an evaluation. He will be sentenced after the evaluation. Wheeler’s lawyer, Steven Sussman, said his client applied for an unpaid internship at U.S. Green Data this fall. Prosecutors said that Wheeler wrote on the résumé that he attended Harvard and won a Rockefeller grant. An official at the company was a Harvard graduate and was familiar with Wheeler’s case. That’s when the authorities were notified of the fraudulent résumé. When he pleaded guilty last year, Kottmyer sentenced Wheeler to two and a half years in jail with that sentence suspended after 30 days in prison. He was also ordered to pay Harvard more than $45,000 in restitution and to not represent himself as being affiliated with Harvard.

Adam Wheeler is led into the courtroom before Judge Diane Kottmyer on Thursday on charges he violated his probation by sending a résumé stating he was a Harvard graduate.

Sussman said that Wheeler, who was out of work at the time he submitted his résumé, suffered from financial pressure. He also said the position Wheeler applied for was an unpaid internship. Wheeler’s parents attended the hearing, but said they hadn’t spoken to him in a week.

How he got here Wheeler was able to transfer into Harvard by falsifying his transcripts, recommendations and SAT scores, which he claimed were a perfect 1600. He falsely claimed he

graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover and also used plagiarized material to win a pair of writing contests. He was caught when he applied for the Rhodes and Fulbright scholarships.

Northeastern University was awaiting a British invasion as comedian Russell Brand geared up to perform at the school Friday for Homecoming week. But days before his scheduled arrival, Brand promoted his “intelligent but filthy” act, as he describes it, by asking the school’s president, Dr. Joseph Aoun, for a handson medical exam in a YouTube video. Addressing NU coeds, Brand jokingly calls on Aoun to attend the performance and conduct a checkup on him to prove his credentials. “I want him to carry out a full prostate examination

Brand then says if Aoun can’t perform the procedure on him, he should be able to do one on Aoun. “I have a very special technique. ond video, Brand says “if you’re name is [Aoun], you’re in a lot of trouble,” before making an O-shape with his thumb and index finger. The video, used to invite students to the show, was one of a series for Brand’s current weeklong college comedy tour. Authorities foil Occupiers’ bid to shut Wall Street

Charged in attempt to assassinate Obama PITTSBURGH. A 21-year-old

man accused of firing shots at the White House last week was charged on Thursday with trying to assassinate U.S. President Barack Obama, though the president was out of town at the time. Oscar Ortega-Hernandez of Idaho appeared in a Pittsburgh court after his arrest on Wednesday at a hotel near Indiana, Pa., according to the U.S. Secret Service. No one was hurt in the shooting on Friday night. Obama and wife, Michelle, were not in Washington at the time. The Secret Service said one bullet broke a White House window but was stopped by protective ballistic glass, and the other round struck the exterior of the building. REUTERS

The number of Americans newly infected with syphilis has fallen for the first time in a decade, but sexually transmitted diseases continue to take a staggering toll on the United States, with 19 million new infections each year at a cost of $17 billion annually. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s annual report on sexually transmitted diseases, which tracks cases of the three reportable STDs — chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis — shows widespread disparities. On this album, you do swing wildly between fun and philosophical. I think that’s just part of my character and my personality and my music. I always find a balance. There’s elements for everyone in there. It’s much like myself, as a person. It’s neutral and relatable to different groups of people. It’s not necessarily geared to one demographic. It’s more like the balance of, you get your ‘hood s—, you get your ignorant s—, you get sexy music, you get passionate moments, you get life moments and you get vulnerable moments. hen Canadian rapper Drake found out his latest album, “Take Care,” had leaked online a week before its release, he took to Twitter and in a very practical tone wrote to his 4 million followers, “Listen, enjoy it, buy it if you like it...and take care until next time.” This pragmatic response is telling of Drake’s approach. On “Take Care,” he frequently raps about what he observes with a sense of both realism and optimism. This is present most in songs like “We’ll Be Fine” and “HYFR,” where he says, “I learned working with the negatives could make for a better picture.”

Is it just a given that an album will leak before it comes out, or do you actually try to figure out where the leak came from?

Nah. You know, my last album leaked like 28 days before it came out and that was kind of devastating. I don’t necessarily

Yeah, there are little pieces that I collect over the months, whether it be in passing conversation or from reading or movies. I pull from all kinds of referhis signature harmonica. more rock ’n’ roll. “It actually came from a black metal song that we wrote,” says singer John McCauley. “It had extremely anti-Christian lyrics, so we thought it’d be funny if we named that song ‘Divine Providence.’” They eventually scrapped the song, as it didn’t fit the mood of their new album — which is mostly a rollicking good time, catering to classic rock fist-pumps as much as country rock swaying. And like the Mats, there is a degree of longing and loneliness beneath the surface of the party proceedings, too. But Deer Tick is

no throwback act. They are writing very much for these times. The song “Main Street,” which they recently performed on Letterman, seems perfect for the age of 24/7 social networking, as McCauley asserts in a desperate rasp: “Miss one day and the whole world casts you out.” “Divine Providence” also has a sonic density that be-

trays its festive atmosphere. So in the studio, are Deer Tick focused or a mess? “I’d say it’s a little bit of both,” says McCauley. “Or maybe one person would be really drunk and nobody else would. It all depended on what time of day you got to the studio.” PAT HEALY

I went to the gym pretty much at four in the morning and worked out for two hours and then went to work and then ran. It was absolutely exhausting.”

According to Pattinson and Greene, the birth scene was one of the most memorable during the movie shoot. “The director Bill Condon made some really bloody horror movies early on in his career and we shot it like a straight horror scene,” says Pattinson. “I saw one cut, and if you had added some other music and other sound effects

you wouldn’t want to watch the screen. They could definitely do a version of this movie for adults only.” Greene remembers the day as one of the most hysterical. “We were nervous and didn’t know how to pull this off. It was so intense. You can’t relate to a baby that is destroying its mother. It translates much better on film and it looks good, but when we were filming it nobody knew what was happening!”

Inside the mind of Woody Allen At 76, director Woody Allen is still reaching new heights in his 42 years as a filmmaker. With a staggering 47 films under his belt, Allen could easily be installed in the Mt. Rushmore of American filmmakers alongside Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg and Oliver Stone. But until now, Allen has never allowed a documentary to be made about his work. The man who finally convinced him was Robert Weide. As Allen’s most recent release, “Midnight in Paris” becomes his biggest box office success, PBS airs “Woody Allen: A Documen-

tary” on “American Masters.” Metro asked Weide how he got Allen to relent. Woody Allen has famously never let a film be made about him. How did you do it?

His reluctance to this kind of thing over the years has not been based so much on his fear that somebody would do something outside of his control. I think his problem with it has always been his self-deprecating streak, where he just doesn’t understand how anyone would be interested in doing a documentary on him or why anyone would

be interested in watching it. He and I actually had a $10 bet, which I need to collect on. When he met me, I could never get [this film] financed. And then once I did, his thing was, “No one’s going to put this on the air.” Of course, “American Masters” jumped at it. Now his thing is, “Well, no one’s going to watch it.” His romantic relationships with Diane Keaton and Mia Farrow are epic in the public consciousness. Did you have a hard time getting as much info as you wanted from them?

By the time one film comes out, he’s already shooting the next film. I tried to round out the picture as much as I can. It’s not a psychological study; but when you look at the arc of his life and his career, I think it puts a few things into perspective.

Revisiting the original Thanksgiving meal When you carve the bird, be sure to thank the Native Americans Our nation’s first people knew good eats This year, let’s give it up for the originators of our favorite meal of the year: the Native Americans. “Most all of the foods that we associate with Thanksgiving are Native American foods,” says Beverly Cox, the co-author of the recently reissued “Spirit of the Harvest: North American Indian Cooking.” “Sweet potatoes, corn (like cornbread stuffing), the turkey (a native animal to the Americas), cranberries, green beans, pumpkin pie — pumpkins originated in the Americas as well — virtually our whole dinner

Hidatsa stuffed sugar pumpkin Serves six Many of the Plains tribes originated near the Great Lakes and in the northern woodlands, and thus were familiar with wild rice. It became an important trade item that found its way from Woodland to Prairie tribes. It was then traded for buffalo hides and dried meat from the hunting peoples on the plains who were long removed from their ancestral rice marshes. The Mandan and Hidatsa villages along the Missouri River in what is now central North Dakota were major trading centers for both indigenous and non-Indian foods. These tribes raised pumpkins and

cup wild rice, cooked eggs, beaten teaspoon crushed dried sage teaspoon pepper

squash, and they also traded with tribes to the east and the north — and thus had a more varied diet than their nomadic neighbors.

Ingredients 1

4- to 5-pound sugar pumpkin 2 teaspoons salt ½ teaspoon dry mustard 1-2 tablespoons vegetable oil or rendered fat 1 pound ground venison, buffalo or beef 1 medium onion, chopped

Preheat oven to 350F. Cut the top from the pumpkin and remove seeds and strings. Prick cavity with a fork and rub with one teaspoon of salt and the mustard. Heat oil in a large skillet. Add meat and onion and saute over medium-high heat until browned. Off the heat, stir in wild rice, eggs, remaining salt, sage and pepper. Stuff pumpkin with this mixture. Place a half-inch of water in the bottom of a shallow baking pan.

Put the pumpkin in the pan and bake for 1½ hours or until tender. Add more water to the pan as necessary to avoid sticking. Cut pumpkin into wedges, giving each person both pumpkin and stuffing.

Take All-Pro offensive lineman Logan Mankins, who is widely considered one of the best in the league. He’s not going to tell you he loves that style of offense, but you can bet he knows it’s a big recipe for success. “It gets pretty tiring … but they’re getting tired, too, so that’s the main thing,” Mankins said. “It’s nice to do it occasionally when it’s working good. We like it. The D-line, I think they get more tired than we actually do because they have to chase the ball.” While some defenses elect not to substitute — or can’t in time — when offenses speed things up, some do get off the field. Red Sox seek to interview Valentine It’s back to the drawing board for the Red Sox as the Chicago Cubs announced the hiring of Dale Sveum yesterday — the only candidate Boston had granted a second interview. The Red Sox have reportedly shown interest in former Mets manager Bobby Valentine. Valentine, who currently works for ESPN as a studio analyst, will reportedly interview for the position left vacant by Terry Francona sometime this week. With Boston reopening their search, Valentine appears to be near the top of the list. Valentine, 61, managed the Mets for seven years and made

the World Series in 2000 before, being fired after the 2002 season. He was also the manager of the Texas Rangers from 1985 to 1992, but never made it to the postseason. Boston was believed to be interested in a candidate with relatively little managerial experience — the direct opposite of the outspoken Valentine, who managed 15 years in the majors. Phillies bench coach Pete Mackanin, Indians bench coach Sandy Alomar and Blue Jays coach Torey Lovullo, all interviewed by the Sox, are almost completely inexperienced as managers.
