iPad hawkers in NYPD bust Police arrested nine people who were hawking iPads outside two Manhattan Apple stores last week, according to the New York Daily News. The arrests were last Friday, the day Apple came out with its coveted iPad 3.

worker was killed Thursday morning in an uptown building collapse. The FDNY reported that one person was killed and two others were injured in a building collapse at 130th Street and Broadway.

Synthetic pot a growing problem NEW YORK. Officials continued their fight to stop the sale of synthetic pot, which is widely available across the city.

Queens Councilman Peter Vallone plans to introduce a bill to ban synthetic marijuana. Synthetic pot is sold as herbal incense or potpourri around the city, and the drug can be dangerous, some experts say. It is advertised in packets with names like “Aroma” and “Killer Buzz.”

Former U.S. Sen. John Edwards fired back Thursday at a news site that reported he was a client of the Upper East Side prostitution ring allegedly run

A high-end hooker who allegedly worked for Gristina, the so-called “Millionaire Madam,” said she was paid to have sex with Edwards during his campaign for U.S. president, sources told DNAinfo Thursday.

The two hooked up in 2007, the call girl claims, when Edwards came to New York City as part of his presidential campaign to try and drum up donations.

The two allegedly had one rendezvous at an unnamed Upper East Side hotel, according to the report.

But Edwards’ lawyer, Allison Van Laningham, told various media outlets Thursday the report was “false and defamatory.”

“Mr. Edwards categorically

denies that he was involved with any prostitute or service.

These allegations are false, defamatory, and he puts those who would publish or repeat them on notice that they [are] acting with actual malice by reporting or repeating them,” Van Laningham said in a statement.

“He has demanded a complete retraction from the only source being quoted,” the statement added. Edwards’ lawyer, Abbe Lowell, also called DNAinfo on Thursday and demanded a retraction, the website reported, to which they refused.

The report cites “sources” who said the call girl provided detailed accounts of their hookup to the Manhattan district attorney’s office in 2008.

That’s when the Manhattan DA first began investigating Gristina's alleged sex ring.

Jogger finds body in Long Island woods Another body was found in Long Island, cops said Thursday.

Suffolk County police reported that a jogger found a body in the woods in Manorville on Wednesday.

Cops said Thursday that the body was a woman of an unknown age, and the remains had not been in the woods very long.

Detective Jack Fitzpatrick,

commanding officer of the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad, told reporters that they do not think the body is related to a serial killer they say is responsible for a string of bodies dumped by the water in Long Island, including those near Gilgo Beach.

“Nothing at all indicates a connection,” Fitzpatrick said, according to Newsday.

“My opinion is that it’s very unlikely that it’s one person.”

A taxpayer advocacy group blasted what they say are outrageous pensions for some state workers.

Group: Scale back lavish NY pensions A report released Thursday by the group Taxpayers United of America accuses state government employees of getting way too much in their retirement pensions. One schoolteacher on Long Island, for example, could stand to collect nearly $12 million in retirement, the group alleges.

Another retired State University of New York employee has an annual pension of $186,295, and another state employee’s annual pension is $173,651, according to data obtained by the group.

In the city, a former New York City family court employee receives a pension of $119,731.

The group said the numbers are absurdly high compared to $36,000, the average personal income of state private sector workers.

“Many government retirees make more in pension pay-

ments than the private sector taxpayers make in salaries,” lamented the group’s vice president, Christina Tobin.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo supported a new pension plan, passed by the Legislature earlier this month, that would decrease benefits for future government employees.

In remarks supporting Cuomo’s plan last month, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said that in 2002, pension costs for that year alone were $1.5 billion.

Now, they are more than $8 billion each year, he said.

“Pension costs are spiraling out of control,” he said.

But cutting pensions is not popular — New York City public workers protested in Zuccotti Park against pension cuts earlier this month.

n February 2010, two years after the election of President Barack Obama and two years into the recession-inducing financial collapse, a billboard appeared in Wyoming, Minn.: a huge photo of former president George W. Bush asking, “Miss Me Yet?” At that point, most U.S. citizens, Republicans included, were not ready to admit any hint of nostalgia for the presidency that oversaw 9/11, started two deficitbusting wars in the Middle East, tanked the nation’s finances with massive tax cuts for the rich, preached deregulation on Wall Street and made torture sound like a day at the beach. In 2008, as candidates scrambled to distance themselves from the toxic legacy, W. was a nonentity and “Bush” was reduced to a four-letter word.

Now that veneer of shame has begun to creep away.

Romney here refers to the Troubled Asset Relief Program, the poorly negotiated federal bailout program that attempted to avert a more severe recession through billions in government giveaways to the financial sector.

(Apparently the federal government can spend taxpayer money to restore the economy only under a Republican presidency.) Of course, Romney pointedly ignores the suc-

cessful auto bailouts, which he strongly opposed, and other stimulus measures that injected much-need dollars into the U.S. economy to save millions of jobs. Clearly, some memories are more readily recalled than others.

T

hen there’s the matter of Karl Rove, whom Bush credited as “the architect” of his 2004 election, the brains behind the old “Mission Accomplished” ruse. This man, who could teach a washing machine a thing or two about spin and who is pulling the strings of American Crossroads — the super PAC “100 percent dedicated to rescuing our economy from the Obama agenda” — is trying to pass himself off as an objective journalist.

In a Wall Street Journal oped Wednesday, Rove set out to dispute the claims of a new Obama re-election video, questioning everything from the fact that the president faced a serious economic crisis to the very existence of cause-andeffect itself. Rove dedicates his space in the Murdoch-owned paper to downplaying any Obama successes and propping up the Bush regime.

But then, what else do you expect from these masters of lies? Romney and Rove want us to forget all about what came before so they can mold the future in their own distorted image. So tell us, readers: Do we miss Bush yet? Are we ready for another dose? Are we ready to forget?

he Hunger Games” has changed Jennifer Lawrence’s life in at least one way: She’s armed now. “I mean, I still have arrows in my car,” Lawrence admits. (Her character in the film, Katniss Everdeen, is a talented bow-hunter, so Lawrence has had to master archery.) “I didn’t realize that until two of my friends were getting into the backseat of my car and they were like, ‘Why do you have spears back here?’ In case I get pulled over!”

Lawrence made such an impression in the critically acclaimed “Winter’s Bone” — as a hard-luck teen who must provide for her impoverished fami-

ly — that producers of “The Hunger Games” immediately thought of her for Katniss, a hard-luck teen who must provide for her impoverished family. “White trash with too much responsibility,” Lawrence says, comparing the characters, a mischievous grin on her face.

“My publicist doesn’t like it when I say that.”

Lawrence had hesitations about taking the role — and was even close to turning it down outright. “It was so big. he world of Panem has captivated “The Hunger Games” fans. Now, thanks to a dedicated writer-turned-cartographer, readers can visualize what the fictional region looks like. The meticulously researched map was created by a previously published fiction writer who goes by the pen name V. Arrow.

How she placed the districts Arrow took clues from the book — North America was said to be destroyed by a cataclysmic event; District 12 is said to have once been Appalachia. She used a phi spiral — a logarithmic shape that gets wider by every quarter turn — to place the evil Capitol in the center. The rest was just guesswork.

The new season of “Mad Men” is just days away, and from the look of things, the show will pick up in the late 1960s — that means a whole new time period’s worth of wardrobe possibilities for Don, Betty, Roger and Peggy. We imagine what they’ll be wearing.

our favorite trending colors and prints, like the bright pinks and large florals in some of the women’s pieces, and fit them on a ’60s silhouette, like a capri pant or nip-waist dress.

The first four seasons of “Mad Men” helped spark a global obsession with the mid-century way of dressing, influencing an entire season of ready-to-wear collections. Do you think Season 5 will do the same thing for late ’60s dressing?

People identify with the costume design of the characters and there has already been a clear resurgence of 1960s trends on runways this spring.

Directions For the cherries: 1 Heat the oven to 425°F and arrange a rack in the middle.

Stir all of the ingredients together in a 9-inch pie plate and spread the cherries into a single layer. Roast, stirring occasionally, until the cherries are softened, juicy and bubbling, about 20 minutes.

Remove the pie plate to a wire rack and set it aside to cool. Meanwhile, make the matzo brei.

For the matzo brie: 1 Place the matzo pieces in a 13-by-9 baking dish and spread them into an even layer. Add the water and gently stir until the pieces are evenly moistened. Let sit until the water has been absorbed, about one to two

Whisk the eggs and salt in a medium bowl until the eggs are broken up. Pour the egg mixture over the softened matzo and stir to combine.

Melt the butter in a large nonstick frying pan over medium heat until foaming.

Add the matzo mixture and, using a rubber spatula, press it into an even layer.

Cook undisturbed until the bottom is golden brown and the mixture is set, about five to seven minutes.

To flip, slide the brei onto a large plate. Place a second large plate upside down over the brei and invert it onto the second plate. Slide the brei back into the pan and reshape it if necessary with the rubber spatula.

Cook until the second side is golden brown, about seven to eight minutes more.

Slide the matzo brei onto a cutting board and slice it into wedges. Transfer the roasted cherries and their juices to a serving bowl.

Serve the matzo brei warm, passing the roasted cherries and any seasoning on the side.

Dance review

Rattling around at the Koch Paul Taylor, who’s been making wonderful dances for nearly 60 years, is the Great Uniter of the American modern tradition — combining experimental impulses with flawless technique and eclectic musical taste ranging from European classics to inhouse geniuses.

For decades his arrival at City Center, usually accompanied by a live orchestra, heralded spring in New York.

This season he’s moved the troupe to Lincoln Center, performing in the plush precincts of the theater usually occupied by New York City Ballet and using taped music.

The engineers were still working out the details as “Cloven Kingdom,” a Taylor masterwork from 1976, unfurled in full evening dress; the hybrid score, a blend of Corelli, Cowell and Malloy Miller combined by John Herbert McDowell, bounced around the speaker system, its volume shifting erratically. Corelli’s 17th-century

melodies burped with deliberately odd rattles, and Jennifer Tipton’s lighting seemed oddly subdued. But the gorgeous dancers offered their delightfully deadpan interpretation of sexual segregation, of adults behaving like children or apes and finally of blissful union.

“The Uncommitted,” a new work, seemed submerged in fog, as Arvo Part’s funereal music and Santo Loquasto’s designs carpeted a work of interesting spatial invention. “Beloved Renegade,” a 2008 choreography celebrating Walt Whitman to Poulenc’s choral “Gloria,” closed the program.

Opening night offered all seats for $4, what they cost in 1962, and the house was packed. On March 14 regular prices returned and the crowd thinned substantially.

L’Arc-en-Ciel, the biggest band you’ve never heard of

L’Arc-en-Ciel are from Japan, they have a French name and they’ve been known to play American-sounding hard rock, singing in English. In an e-mail interview, the group’s singer, simply known as Hyde, says that this melting pot approach may be a key to the success of the band, who are playing a show at Madison Square Garden this weekend during their first trip to New York in their 21-year career.

With so many different countries’ cultures that you’re influenced by, which culture do you relate to most?

I guess when you get down to it, there’s no particular country.

Which culture has produced the most influences on your sound?

All of the members were really into British New Wave and American hard rock when they were kids, so that influence is probably pretty big.

Your approach to the American market is different than most foreign bands who come over for the first time and tour clubs across the whole country. What made you decide to just do one huge show at Madison Square Garden?

I don’t think that it’s always the best move, to go around hitting a bunch of venues. In this case,

I think there are, but I don’t go to that many concerts myself, so I couldn't say.

You are the first Japanese act to headline Madison Square Garden. This is a great honor, but are there other Japanese acts from over the years that you feel deserved to do such a thing?

Are there any American heroes of yours that you've invited to the show? If so, who? If not, what American bands would you want to invite? We can do it for you on the pages of this paper.

Thank you, but in our case we don’t actually personally know a ton of people to invite. If we’re talking about bands we like, there are way too many!

So much for getting off on the right foot.

The Jets’ newly signed backup quarterback Drew Stanton — the backup without the cult following — reportedly wants out of New York already.

ESPN is reporting that Stanton, who signed last Friday for $1.25 million with $500,000 guaranteed, is re-

questing he be released or traded. The AP reports the Jets are now shopping the threeyear pro. Any return would likely be limited to a lateround pick.

Stanton was reportedly brought in with assurances that he would be Mark Sanchez’s primary backup. In a conference call Tuesday night to introduce new safety

We all know that Mark Sanchez doesn’t have the strongest mentality.

The Jets offense crumbled around him at the end of last season as Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress staged a revolt and LaDainian Tomlinson openly complained in the media.

The biggest fear the Jets should have is that Sanchez comes out of the game and struggles. He had 18 interceptions last year and he’s shown no real inclination to be a smarter decision maker in the pocket over his three seasons.

The fans won’t hesitate for a moment to boo Sanchez off the field in favor of the chosen one.

The scenario people seem to be ignoring most is that of Sanchez taking the next step in his maturation and becoming a legitimate star quarterback.

Sanchez played just one year at USC and is only 25 years old. Tim Tebow is actually just nine months younger than Sanchez and had three years as a college starter and another playing part time.

In Eli Manning’s third year as a full-time starter he threw 23 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. Next season, the Giants won the Super Bowl.

If Sanchez is playing well, there’s no reason to take him off the field for the Wildcat. And then you are paying a lot of money to a backup quarterback.

The Giants, the defending Super Bowl champions by the way, re-signed David Carr to a one-year deal. Carr, 32, backed up Eli Manning last season as well as from 2008-’09. Carr didn’t throw a single pass in 2011.
