Executive Fire Chief Richard Davison said that a generator in the basement leaked 200 gallons of diesel fuel around 6:30 a.m., prompting the blaze. Former Penn State University President Graham Spanier was charged Thursday with perjury, endangering the welfare of children and obstruction for allegedly helping to cover up the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal almost a year after the former coach was charged.

Authorities also filed new charges against former University Senior Vice President for Finance and Business Gary Schultz and former Athletic Director Tim Curley, accusing them of concealing information about Sandusky’s suspected abuse.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly said Spanier, Schultz and Curley were engaged in a “conspiracy of silence,” which continued even after the grand jury investigation began.

“This is not a mistake, an oversight or a misjudgment,”

Kelly said. “This was a conspiracy of silence by top officials at Penn State, working to actively conceal the truth, with total disregard to the suffering of children.”

The latest charges were a result of pertinent emails and other key evidence authorities obtained in April 2012, after the top administrators were gone, Kelly said.

Two days after Hurricane Sandy left the tri-state area, nearly one million Pennsylvania and New Jersey residents were still without power Thursday as crews grappled with record outages.

In Pennsylvania, roughly 75 percent of affected PECO customers had power restored, but 200,000 households were still in the dark, officials said. Sandy shattered the previous record of 540,000 outages during an ice storm in 1994. The biggest problem was in Bucks County where about 110,000 customers remained without power.

‘Wreck-It Ralph’ Wreck-It Ralph, the bad guy of “Fix-It Felix, Jr.” — the most popular game in the arcade — is suffering a midlife crisis. His job is to wreck but he wants to be loved, to be a hero. It’s a can-do story wrapped in a retro gallery of video games in a universe of jarring intensity and candy colors. But without breathing room, it ultimately drags like the come-down of a sugar high.

e at least now know how Denzel Washington would answer the age-old question of which super power is better to have, invisibility or flight. “I have a flying dream.

I’ve had it for most of my life,” Washington says, opening himself up to amateur dream interpreters everywhere. “Somehow I always end up near the city and I go underneath bridges.

The movie follows the story of a lonely

blacksmith (RZA) who unites with warriors and an assassin to destroy a group of traitors on a path of destruction. With a killer soundtrack, likable characters and a smart, witty script, “The Man with the Iron Fists� is fun, over-the-top and visually pleasing, even for those who aren’t kung fu fans.

It’s a similar situation — minus the infidelity — to what McEntire experienced when she moved her family to Los Angeles to reintroduce herself as a TV star on the sitcom “Reba,” which ran from 2001-2007.

“Some of the stories that happened with Shelby [McEntire’s son] and Narvel [her husband] and myself while we were [in L.A.], are translating that into this show,” McEntire says. For instance?

“One night I was doing the taping of the show, and Narvel had to take Shelby to a school function. Narvel had a couple of bologna sandwiches and a paper sack and went to the country club-looking school campus, and here comes everybody with their ice coolers and caviar and tablecloths,” McEntire says. “So it was little things like that that were a huge adjustment for us coming to L.A.” AMBER RAY

character in “Flight” to present a sober face to the public, even though the film’s visual language is frequently not as refined. A close-up of Washington’s hand grasping a mini bottle of vodka and the accompanying swoosh sound is something that should be in a commercial, not in a film about the effects of alcoholism. (Another recent release that deals with alcoholism, “Smashed,” is a much more touching and effective story about addiction.)

As much as Washington is enjoyable, the movie could have been more concise. It flits around a half-dozen themes — two or three too many — before the end credits roll.

With so many East Coast Halloween parties cancelled, such as Heidi Klum’s annual A-list soiree (which has been rescheduled as a “haunted Christmas bash”), it was up to those elsewhere to keep the gossip sites running with their spooky celebrations.

First up are those ever-present social butterflies, the Kardashians. Kim Kardashian held a party at LIV nightclub in Miami dressed as Catwoman with date Kanye West coming in costume as Batman. 215 Festival gets lit again The literary fest is back with a focus on Young Adult authors — and a weakness for bookish dance parties After a two-year hiatus, the 215 Festival returns this weekend.

Since its founding in 2001, the literary fest has aimed to avoid the typically stuffy vibe of its peers. There are panel discussions and readings with local and international authors — but also concerts, a craft and record fair, a film screening and other events that provide attendees informal opportunities to rub shoulders with participating writers.

Saturday marks 215’s first event devoted to Young Adult literature, a genre recently booming from the successes of best-selling series like “Hunger Games” and “Twilight.” Among the YA writers participating is Philly’s own Elisa Ludwig, the author of “Pretty Crooked,” a Robin Hood-inspired story about a girl who steals from her rich prep school classmates and gives to the poor.

“It’s a light book, but it’s meant for all readers,” says Ludwig. “It taps into many real issues impacting all people. Kids are aware of these things; they’re important issues in their lives, too. There’s a huge interest in YA, and the audience is very energetic and diverse. 215 Fest has always tapped into what’s hot right now, and YA definitely falls in that category.”

Early voting, like hipster glasses and going vegan, has been all the rage among the cool kids this year. As best I can make out, everyone in Oregon has already cast a ballot except for an agoraphobe named Stacy who spends all day watching the Lifetime network and calling each of her 27 cats, “Kaiser Wilhelm.” I may have heard wrong, but you get my point: A significant part of the election is already over.

S

till, if you cling to traditional ways, and are going to trek to your local polling place on Tuesday, here are some things you might want to bring along.

First, pack some snacks. After all the months of buildup any given voting site may involve a long wait (it’s like the Department of Motor Vehicles with even less of a sense of humor,) and ever since open bribery fell out of favor, these places have become shockingly bleak.

No pretzel or funnel cake stands. No daiquiri bars. I’d suggest a small backpack with some Nilla Wafers and perhaps a banana. Or leftover Halloween candy.

Second, bring some facts. You can keep

The Eagles’ quarterback controversy — the same one the media created Sunday night — is officially over. On Thursday, coach Andy Reid made it as clear as he could that Mike Vick would remain his starting quarterback for the remainder of the season.

“I mentioned [Wednesday] that Michael, in regards to that, was the quarterback, is the quarterback and will continue to be the quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles,” Reid said. “My point wasn’t that I was going to bench Michael Vick; it was that I needed to step back and evaluate before I came to you [the media].”

Reid took it a step further when explaining his evaluation. Vick played one of his better games of the year, according to his coach.

“I think when you step back and you look at that, with the exception of the drops that took place, I thought he played a good football game,” Reid said.

Vick’s numbers were respectable. He didn’t turn the ball over for the first time in three weeks and completed 21-of-35 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown.

Vick knows he needs to improve on some things, but he never felt like he was getting the bench. He said that conversation, between himself and Reid, never occurred.

“Honestly I never knew or never heard about me not being a starter,” Vick said.

The controversy started when a reporter asked Vick what he thought about Reid potentially sitting him. So Vick answered it openly and honestly — without the benefit of having spoken to Reid.

“That was the question that was thrown at me from one of you guys,” Vick said. “I didn’t know that conversation had [taken] place. It’s all hindsight now.”

The quarterback called a players-only meeting Wednesday to let players vent and offer suggestions on how to save the season.

Seven players addressed the team, according to sources. Vick, Trent Cole, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Jason Avant, DeMeco Ryans, Jeremy Maclin and Cullen Jenkins were among those to speak.

“I'm not going to really get into specifics about what we talked about, but quite a few things needed to get cleared up, and it happened, and it was good for our team,” Brent Celek said.

What to watch The Eagles head to New Orleans Monday night for a prime-time showdown.

Here’s an early look: All eyes on 7. With job security no longer an issue, it’s time for Mike Vick to play like an elite quarterback.

Vick needs to go back to playing recklessly. This line isn’t good enough for him to sit back and wait. Or, as Vick himself stated, “I have to get my swag back.”

Get a sack. Those two sacks last week were mirages. The first one shouldn’t have even counted since Matt Ryan just fell down — and the second one was equally soft. It’s time for Trent Cole and Jason Babin to stop making excuses and sack the quarterback, or at least to get into swatting distance.

Mike Patterson, the same guy coming off brain surgery, expects to play Monday night. The defensive tackle has been practicing and said he feels good. Patterson hasn’t played football since January. Right now he is on the non-football injury list. “I feel like, as a player, I can make a difference. We’ll what happens,” he said.

College coach thinks ’Bama could beat NFL teams Steve Spurrier certainly talks a good game.

Even though his run in the NFL — two seasons in Washington — was brief, he still thinks a college team can beat a professional one. The clincher is, it’s not his own team.

“Alabama, gosh, they look like they could beat a couple of those NFL teams that I’ve watched on Sundays,” the South Carolina coach told “The Dan Patrick Show.” “I think a lot of the oddsmakers out there that usually know what’s going on, I’d guess Alabama would be favored by a little bit.”

Alabama is looking for its third national title in five seasons under Nick Saban, another coach who had little success at the NFL level.

Spurrier, of course, has had success at the collegiate level. He coached the Florida Gators to a national championship in 1996. However, his NFL record stands at a disappointing 12-20.
