Two women jumped off NYC bridges Aspiring fashion designer Ashley Riggitano, 22, leaped off the George Washington Bridge on Wednesday afternoon around 4:45 p.m., the New York Post reported. .A 57-year-old woman jumped off the Whitestone Bridge around 8 a.m. Thursday, according to the Post. The eco-unfriendly material found in takeout containers and party cups might be next on the shortlist to get slashed by the city.

One month before a ban on sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces takes effect, the city may have found its next target.

A sanitation official told reporters that the department will propose banning Styrofoam.

John McCarthy, a spokesman for Mayor Michael Bloomberg, told Metro, “We are always willing to take a look at new ways to reduce waste that can’t be recycled or reused.”

Bloomberg has in the past banned smoking in restaurants and parks, and he pushed for the soda ban, which begins in March.

Right now, the city refuses to recycle Styrofoam — officials say it is too difficult.

Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis pleaded guilty Thursday to attempting to bomb the Federal Reserve Bank on Liberty Street last October, the FBI reported. He is charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction, for which he could be sentenced to life in prison. Nafis’ sentencing is scheduled for May 30.

Styrofoam Out of Schools, a group of parents and teachers, has long tried to replace the trays with more ecofriendly options.

In 2010, the city launched “Trayless Tuesdays,” using paper containers that day instead of the 830,000 Styrofoam trays the city estimates are tossed every day.

At the hearing, the MTA announced plans to increase advertisements and public service announcements telling passengers to stay away from the platform edge. A helpbutton system to notify transit workers of emergencies will also be ready by the end of 2014.

ASPCA rescues 50 felines from Brooklyn hoarders ASPCA

BROOKLYN.

The ASPCA Cruelty Intervention Advocacy team had been monitoring what they called a “cat hoarding” situation in Brooklyn, and grew alarmed as superstorm Sandy seemed to increase the peril facing some 50 cats living in one Brooklyn apartment.

On Nov. 15, the team went in and removed all 50 cats, on the grounds that while the owners spent “much of their time” caring for the cats, they could not keep up with the spay/neuter and other needs of so many animals, making proper care impossible. Fatal crash injures babies Yesterday at West 135th Street, a Ford van driving north on Broadway rammed into a Ford Focus making a left turn.

Both cars slammed into a 44-year-old woman.

The Ford Focus was carrying two infants in the backseat. Police reported the pedestrian had non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Focus and infants also had non-life-threatening injuries. How fat is too fat to lead America?

Will there be an oval occupant for the Oval Office? New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, America’s most famously obese elected official, brought a doughnut in his suit pocket to a TV appearance this week to make light of his weight.

’m basically the healthiest fat guy you’ve ever seen in your life,” he said. Christie’s size is an issue because America’s current (slim) president is beginning his second term and is constitutionally barred from a third.

Would-be candidates would be wise to begin preparing.

Christie has a remarkably successful political profile; the problem is his girth.

He’s never said how much he weighs, but guesses tend to exceed 300 pounds, making his health a real concern.

“It’s almost like a time bomb that’s waiting to go off,” said former White House physician Connie Mariano.

Christie is discounting any talk of planning a presidential campaign because the 2016 election is still so far off. He says he has plenty of time to prepare. He has time to shed a few pounds, too.

The Grammys are not always easy to predict. Sometimes the National Academy of Recording Arts and Science gets it right, like with Adele sweeping all six categories she was nominated in last year, including the “Big Three” (Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year). But sometimes the Academy gets it horribly wrong. We still can’t figure out how Herbie Hancock

This is really the biggest Grammy, and people sometimes get confused because of those 12-inch vinyl things that are also called records. This award honors the actual performance, the studio production and that certain X-factor that makes a song a defining snippet of sound for that year, or you know, a record.

This award is for the songwriter, so if Kelly Clarkson’s tune wins, she doesn’t actually win, because she didn’t have a hand in composing “Stronger.” All other artists in this category wrote their respective songs.

The nominees in this category are hard to argue with, but what’s easy to argue with is that the ladies were snubbed!

Where’s Taylor Swift’s “Red”? While the Grammys are not a popularity contest, “Red” was the second biggest-selling album of 2012, behind only another lady, Adele, who happened to do pretty well for herself at the Grammys last year.

ack Antonoff isn’t exactly a stranger to attention. The New Jerseyraised musician found some success with his band Steel Train and — let’s gossip a little — he once dated high school classmate Scarlett Johansson. But last year, the explosion of “Some Nights,” the album by his “other” band, fun., netted an astounding six Grammy nominations and an invitation to play the awards.

“Performing, that’s just the icing on the cake. My favorite thing to do growing up was to watch the

performances on the Grammys,” says Antonoff.

The song that catapulted fun. — which also includes Andrew Dost and Nate Ruess — to global fame was “We Are Young.”

The brooding pop anthem also garnered some famous fans, including Beyonce.

“It feels amazing to be recognized by fellow artists that you appreciate,” says Antonoff. “It’s like a circle of inspiration that goes around. To imagine that someone who inspired us to make music is also listening to our music

is an incredible moment.

All the people we’ve gotten to meet this last year, it makes you feel a bit more connected to music.”

And connecting is important for Antonoff.

“The truth is that it can be lonely out there making music,” the 28-year-old says. “There are more and more people that do it, and the more that we can talk to bands and artists of this generation the more comfortable we feel in our skins with what we do.”

One of the stars of ‘A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III’ is happy to chat about the film — or shoes, or really anything you’re into Jason Schwartzman’s Doc Martins are in bad shape.

“In fact, they have holes in the bottoms of them,” he says, staring down at the scuffed shoes. “Is shoe polish just basically painting your shoes? These are the kinds of questions you just shouldn’t ask out loud.”

A conversation with Schwartzman can go on like this for a very long time. This guy is great for a chat, and we’re happy to chew the fat. But he did just co-star with Charlie Sheen, who plays the titular character in Schwartzman’s new film, “A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III” — a famous graphic designer whose boozing and womanizing leads him to trouble.

So shoe care aside, we had to ask: was Schwartzman ever offered some tiger blood on set?

“No, I wasn’t offered any of that. It never came up. Maybe I don’t exude that type of thirst,” he says dismissively, before enthusing about the troubled actor whose private life has of recent years eclipsed the attention given to his acting work.

“When you talk to him, he talks in the most incredible way — just sort of poetic and goes on these tangents that are incredible and beautiful,” Schwartzman says. “He’s so bright and he’s really inspiring to be around.

He’s a great actor. A.

eing the straight man in a comedy can be a thankless job, but Jason Bateman has no problem with that. His latest, “Identity Thief,” finds him taking on Melissa McCarthy’s con woman.

Plus, this spring he gets to reprise his best-loved straight man role as putupon Michael Bluth in “Arrested Development” when the cult hit returns with new episodes on Netflix.

Still, if you've got a more outlandish comedy role in mind, he's willing to listen.

Do you find it at all insulting to be asked how hard it is to keep a straight face opposite someone like Melissa McCarthy?

No, actually, I’ve never taken it that way. That’s tough to do, and I fail miserably at it repeatedly, especially with Melissa.

Was it Melissa or writer Craig Mazin who kept adding in jokes about you having mangled junk in “Identity Thief”?

Well, Craig’s pretty filthy.

Craig wrote a script that didn’t need any ad-libbing whatsoever to make it fun-

Q&A You’ve made quite a career of playing the straight man, but have you been looking for parts beyond that type?

Yeah, I mean, I would enjoy doing that.

Send them. I’ll read them and do them.

But I get most of my opportunities doing what people have seen me do before, and I don’t think that’s too dissimilar from most actors.

You kind of get offered what people expect to see you in.

So it’s up to me to start to steer the ship in another direction if I want some changes. And I do, every once in a while. ny, and so we didn’t do a lot of that. ... Craig Mazin did a really, really good job.

So he’s the one obsessed with you having messed-up junk?

He loves my junk. Or he loves my messed-up junk.

He wants bad things to happen to it because I won’t give it to him.

Q&A Are you the only Bluth family member to appear in every new episode of “Arrested Development”?

I believe that is true. I haven’t seen them, he’s still editing them, but that was the goal when Mitch [Hurwitz] and I talked about these episodes early on.

Any word on returning guest stars?

I think Mitch has already said that a few people are coming back. I think he’s mentioned Carl Weathers and Henry Winkler and ... who else did he mention? James Lipton and Andy Richter.

There’s many more. And then his ideas for the movie are just insane. So hopefully Act II and Act III will happen, which is the movie. I can’t wait to see what he does with all this footage.

We were also inspired by Phil Frost â&#x20AC;&#x201D; heâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s a contemporary artist. What we loved about him is the way he layered texture. He would have a white paint â&#x20AC;&#x201D; almost graffiti-like artwork â&#x20AC;&#x201D; layered on top of old graphics that were absolutely breathtaking. We used that as a new way of doing prints. And then, when I was in Europe, I

When shoveling your cars, how about instead of making a huge pile in front of the car and in back of the car, burn a few extra calories and dump the snow in the yard of the house you’re parked in front of.

This clears up room in the street for parking — and then you wont have to fight about “my parking spot.” Because the streets are public, and snow piles in the street, when added up, take up at least 10 spots that could be used.

So when universities sue needy students for repayment of “federal Perkins loans,” those needy student merely have to tell the judge that they don’t have to repay since they are unconstitutional and are therefore “null and void” at the get-go. The Islanders acquired Thomas from the Boston Bruins late Thursday afternoon in exchange for a conditional second-round

He has a career 196-12145 record with a 2.48 goals against average and .921 save percentage in 378 regular season games.
