The Philadelphia Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will contribute $5,000 and the L.F. Driscoll Company would contribute up to $10,000. Officials said the fires, which occurred on the 11th, 12th and 16th floors, were intentionally set between Monday and Tuesday.

A Northeast Philadelphia man has been arrested for allegedly buying four guns for a 16-year-old reputed drug dealer in exchange for heroin, District Attorney Seth Williams announced on Thursday.

“The fact that a grown man bought four different guns for a 16-year-old is unfathomable,” Williams said. “That coupled with the harsh reality that the teen then used one of those guns to shoot another young man only cements the need for tougher penalties for straw purchasers in Pennsylvania.”

Prosecutors said 32year-old Luke Dercole bought four different guns for 16-year-old Michael Burak in October of 2012.

Burak allegedly used one of those guns to shoot 20-year-old Jonathan Espinosa on Oct. 28 inside an Oxford Circle home. He has been charged with attempted murder in connection with that case.

“Buying multiple guns for a minor, who then shoots another teen, is not only unacceptable – it is a tragedy,” Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane said. “This is an example of enforcing sensible laws against illegal gun trafficking.”

According to a search warrant affidavit filed by Texas authorities, New Castle County Courthouse shooter Thomas Matusiewicz’s wife Leonore and son David are now also suspects in the crime.

Monday morning’s gunfire claimed the lives of David Matusiewicz’s exwife Christine Belford and her friend Laura Mulvey, who were entering the building for a custody hearing regarding the three children Belford shared with David.

The affidavit to search Thomas Matusiewicz’s Edcouch, Texas, home states that Thomas, Leonore and David Matusiewicz are all suspected of “intentionally and knowingly participating in a murder,” though police said it was Thomas

City Council considers ads on city buildings If a bill championed by City Council President Darrel Clarke is approved, corporations could have a shot at dressing up the William Penn statue above City Hall with their own logos and gear in an attempt by officials to raise money for the city.

The bill states advertising could be added on any city-owned properties, but Clarke said all signs would require City Council approval and a venue’s historical significance will be considered.

he events of the past week have cemented my feelings. But I must say if the alternative is enduring another year of hearing how much Washington cares about the middle class, I may book a cabin and take my chances.

President Barack Obama swept up much of the “middle class” vote in the last election, and as he plowed through his State of the Union address this week, it was clear that he is not through with the subject. Time and again he has pledged his undying support to “the true engine” of the American economy, a “thriving, growing, rising middle class.” The only problem is, those folks have not thrived, grown or risen much under his leadership, no matter how much they may like and trust him.

hen Obama took office, about 133 million Americans were working.

Today, about 1.2 million more people are employed. That’s better than losing ground, but it’s hardly the robust growth the middle class needs. On top of that, there’s the problem of underemployment. A study at Rutgers Quoted University found more than half of I’m not people who lost jobs putting all and then found new this at the ones had to take pay president’s cuts. What I am saying is that, for all the noise from politicians about how much they love the middle class, neither side seems to have any real ideas about how to help. Broken Mirrors Tame Impala’s summer single, “Elephant,” features one of the most badass lines in recent rock memory.

In the song, about an overconfident, but ultimately insecure man, Parker sings, “He broke the mirrors off his Cadillac, cuz he doesn’t like it looking like he looks back.”

Of that line, Parker does admit that it was on special reserve for a while.

“I don’t actually remember how I thought of it,” he says. “All I know is that I was driving home from the beach. I know where I was and it was long before I started writing lyrics for that song. I didn’t have a notebook, but I just remembered that rhyme. I didn’t even think it was going to fit. I had no idea how it was going to fit into a song. I then sort of sang it and put it into a sentence and it really seemed to fit well. It was one of those cosmic miracles with lyrics that don’t happen very often for me.”

n paper, a psychedelic band from Western Australia who call their latest album “Lonerism” don’t seem like the most likely candidates to be the biggest sensation in indie rock. But Tame Impala are selling out most of the shows on the tour they are about to begin, which is their biggest trek through the U.S. to date.

“Whenever there’s music where the lyrics are wearing your heart on your sleeve and talking about things that you don’t really talk to anybody about — which is really just kind of music in general — but whenever you’re doing it onstage, you just have that feeling that you’re connecting with other people in the world that feel the same way,” says singer, guitarist

ruce Willis is the first to admit that, five movies in, the titles of the “Die Hard” franchise are getting ridiculous. “We only do another ‘Die Hard’ when they have another really complicated title that no one quite understands,” Willis jokes. “We had just gotten to where we understand [2007’s] ‘Live Free or Die Hard,’ and then now we have ‘A Good Day to Die Hard,’ which, I have to be honest with you, I’m a little baffled still by that one.”

Twenty-five years after the first “Die Hard” turned Willis from a funny TV guy into a bona fide action star, he’s back as John McClane, the wisecracking New York cop who always manages to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. This time, that wrong place is Moscow, where he’s tracking down his estranged son (Jai Courtney). “Moscow was really built for a couple of fish out of water like us. I can’t imagine a bigger ocean of noncommunication than Eastern Europe and Russia,” Willis says. “I

Willis is the fourth member of the “Expendables” team to hit theaters with a headlining film in 2013, following Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham. But Willis isn’t concerned with how his latest stacks up against his colleagues’. “I wish everyone well,” he says.

“I’m still a big film fan. I still go to see other ac- tion films and ... comedies and all kinds of weird things.

‘Safe Haven’ required risks from JAMES BRIDGES

Former “Dancing with the Stars” champ Julianne Hough doesn’t have a lot of big-screen experience that doesn’t rely on her dance background, so after “Burlesque,” “Footloose” and “Rock of Ages,” she was ready for a challenge.

“Yeah, I left the dancing and the singing outside,” she says of her new film, “Safe Haven,” a romantic thriller based on the novel

by Nicholas Sparks. “For me it [meant] going to an acting coach and getting more training. It was definitely a lot more heartfelt and personal.”

Her role — a woman on the run from an abusive past who finds solace with a widower (Josh Duhamel) in a small North Carolina town — also required her to take on some pretty heavy issues related to do-

The Sparks pressure “Safe Haven” marks the eighth Nicholas Sparks romance novel to be made into a film, from 2002’s “A Walk to Remember” to last year’s “The Lucky One.” But it’s his hugely successful second film adaptation, “The Notebook,” that moviegoers remember most. Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough are likeable enough, but this eighth adaptation of a Nicholas Sparksauthored heart flutterer won’t find a safe haven from discerning audiences. Simply put, it’s the tale of a woman who seeks sanctuary in a sleepy town and falls for the local widower while her psychotic hubby hunts her down.

ick Stuccio cofounded the Philadelphia Fringe Festival in 1997 and has since emerged as the leader of the arts organization, even rebranding it in 2004 as the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe.

Stuccio’s vision has always been to make Live Arts a major player on the global arts scene. But he was always limited to an annual two-week run in September. Until now.

While the fall fest will remain the backbone of Live Arts, this weekend Stuccio is launching his first stab at year-round programming, with the Seinendan Theater Company presenting “Robot-Human Theater.”

Based in Japan, Seinendan collaborated with Osaka University’s Intelligent Robotics Laboratory to create two short plays featuring both robot and human actors.

“We’re convinced there’s a market for this kind of work year-round.

Presenting all year could help lure international companies on a cheaper scale, as Live Arts hopes to become a can’tmiss destination for international tours. The shows will typically arrive selfcontained and, eventually, be performed in Live Arts’ 240-seat theater, due to be completed in September.

“We think this is going to open up opportunities for local artists as well. The stakes have become so high for Live Arts. To get a gig on that platform is really hard these days,” says Stuccio. “We’re going to have many more avenues to get folks presented.”

Michael Kors uses the idea to cleverly reinvent the little black dress, each coming down the runway with dramatic clementine and royalblue skirts attached that dip low and sweep the floor in the back. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s a dressy moment in an overall surprisingly sporty show. But Michael Kors is at his best when heâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s designing glamorous things. As a result, the more athletic pieces (tailored, yellow track pants and a shimmery, slouchy sweater, for example) read a little awkward, like the ritzy lady who wears a tad too much makeup to the gym.

the result of condensing pent-up emotions and three years of writing into one record. Maybe, for Reynolds, it goes back even further.

“I’ve always written,” he says. “It was always a bit of a diary, a journal for me.

I would never show anyone the songs but my dad.

I always wanted to see what he thought. My dad was one of my biggest influences, growing up — [as was] the music he liked, whether it was Paul Simon, Billy Joel or the Beach Boys. I always wanted to impress my dad.”

So, did Reynolds Sr. approve?

“Always,” says the

younger Reynolds. “He is just the biggest fan. That, to me, is everything. I’ve always written for myself, but, growing up, there was nothing that made me happier than when my dad was proud of something I did.”

s Yo La Tengo close in on 30 years as a band, the trio has secured their name as one of the most beloved and longstanding survivors in indie rock. Beginning in 1984, and based around the husband and wife harmonies of founding members Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley, the addition of James McNew in the early ’90s put the band in a unique position, where each of the members was now a potential singer and songwriter, making their music all the more diverse.

They’ve scored films, appeared on numerous compilations and even dared to take their already underground following to more obscure levels by creating a garage rock cover band known as Condo F—s.

With the recent release of “Fade,” their 13th offi-

‘Fade’-ing in Many jazz musicians appear on “Fade,” expanding Yo La Tengo’s stylistic and dynamic range, and as a result, the music is softer. But even that is put into question for the live show.

“Sometimes we’re also not the best judge of those types of things,” says Kaplan. “Maybe certain things jump out more than others. What we are doing on this show, though, is extremely different.

We’ll essentially be our own opening act. So we do a first set of quieter songs and then the second set is louder.”

believe my ears and eyes as I watched CNN’s coverage of former LAPD officer Christopher Dorner’s demise.

There were people who actually sympathized with this vicious cop-killer and blasted the LAPD for using incendiary tear gas to put and end to this horrific episode.

The bleeding hearts are going to ruin our way of dealing with cold-blooded killers as they side with them and criticize law enforcement methods.

In this case, I think the LAPD acted properly in doing whatever it took to stop Dorner from inflicting further mayhem on police officers and their families as he vowed to do.

Fast forward and it appeared that no team would be repping Philadelphia in the Big Dance, something that hasnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t happened since 1977. In mid-November, La Salle lost at home to Central Connecticut State.

A month later, Temple was beaten by Canisius at the Liacouras Center. Then Saint Josephâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s lost to Fairfield at Hagan Arena.

Drexel, an NCAA lock before the season began, struggled mightily with home losses to Towson, Northeastern and Rider.

And Villanova was dropped at home by Columbia. (Yes, Columbia.)

But it all changed with a crazy week.

Eagles chatter Eagles add Dixon to QB competition The Eaglesâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; quarterback situation just got a lot more interesting.

The team signed Dennis Dixon to a twoyear contract Thursday, just a few days after restructuring Mike Vickâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s deal. Dixon spent last season as a member of the Ravensâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; practice squad. He has only played in four career NFL games. â&#x20AC;&#x153;We are excited to bring in Dennis Dixon to compete at the quarterback position,â&#x20AC;? said GM Howie Roseman. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Dennis is a veteran in this league that has been a part of two Super Bowlwinning teams in his career.
