Invasion. Police said Gucci belts and Prada sneakers were stolen from a rooming house.

Police are looking for four men who allegedly broke into a Southwest Philadel-

phia rooming house Saturday night, assaulted two residents and stole some unusual items, including electronics and luxury clothing. Investigators said a 38-year-old man, who rents a first-floor room in the boarding house on the 5500 block of Woodland Avenue, approached the front door around 11:30

p.m. As he unlocked the door, four men ambushed him from behind and struck him on the back of the head with a handgun, according to authorities. Police said the suspects were dressed in darkcolored clothing and had hooded sweatshirts covering their faces. They allegedly dragged the victim into the house,

stole two of his cell phones and bound his hands. Officials said two of the men went upstairs into a room rented by a second victim, a 37-year-old man. They allegedly leveled a gun at him and told him not to move. Police said the suspects stole the man’s cell phone, multiple electronics and numerous articles of high-

end clothes including Gucci belts and Prada sneakers. They fled in a black Ford Explorer with faded paint and were last seen driving west on Woodland Avenue. Investigators believe the motive for the home invasion to be robbery.

SHOULD I GIVE ‘FREE MILK?’ Many couples today have made the decision to live together before marriage. Most girls agree to this arrangement in spite of our mothers’ voices echoing in our heads asking the age-old question, “Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?” The question is posed by us girls who have lived with someone before, without being married, and attribute the plaguing trials of cohabitation. How can we avoid making the same mistake twice Quoted and who are these girls giving away free milk? “I believe in giving Christie, 27

away a little free milk. It’s a hell of a lot better than the pain of the milk turning sour.”

Christie: Times have certainly changed over the decades. “Leave it to Beaver” and “Father Knows Best” showed the man as the breadwinner and the wife at home cooking. Dating was four steps: Date, relationship, get married, start a family. The term “Why buy the cow?” was often used back in the ’50s to mean sex without any commitment. If he really loves you, he will wait. In today’s world, that’s just not the case. You need to try on the shoe to see if it fits. The pain of divorce has destroyed the milk motto. Drawn-out divorce cases can shatter families. I believe in giving away a little free milk. It’s a hell of a lot better than the pain of the milk turning sour. Living together to truly figure out if each partner is suitable for marriage is almost a must in today’s world. The trials and tribulations you talk about in cohabitation will be the same one you’ll be talking about when you’re married, but with one major caveat — if you’re married, both of you will pay dearly for your mistake. If you live together and it fails, the free milk simply turns sour. Email your relationship questions for John Bolaris to letters@metro.us. Newborn baby found in yard, mother nearby Abandoned. A baby was found early yesterday morning behind an Allegheny West home. A newborn baby was found early yesterday morning in the backyard of a home on the 2900 block of North Bonsall Street, according to police. Officers were around 5:30 a.m. met by a

woman holding the infant. She told police her daughter, 19, had just awakened her and told her she heard a baby crying in the backyard. Police determined the 19-year-old to be the child’s mother. She told police she was using the bathroom around 4:30 a.m. when she felt pressure, saw blood and realized she’d delivered a baby. She said she cut the umbilical cord, wrapped the infant in a sheet and left her in the yard before telling her mother she heard the cries.

The healthy six-pound newborn was taken by medics to Saint Christopher’s Hospital for Children, where she is in stable condition. The mother suffered heavy bleeding and was taken by police to Temple University Hospital, where she is also in stable condition. There is no word on whether charges will be filed in connection with the case.

Kerry says US ready to ‘reach out’ to N. Korea Conflict. Kerry said the US would “do what was necessary to defend allies but added: “Our choice is to negotiate. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry yesterday stressed the United States is willing to engage with North Korea as long as it takes steps to give up nuclear weapons. He also vowed that Washington would protect its Asian allies against any provocative acts but said it wants a peaceful solution to rising tensions in the region. “We are prepared to reach out, but we need [the] appropriate moment, appropriate circumstance, Kerry said, adding that North Korea had to take

steps toward giving up its nuclear programs. “They have to take some actions. Now how many and how much I want to have a discussion with folks back in Washington [about] ... but they have to take action, he added. The North has threatened to attack the United States, South Korea and Japan since new U.N. sanctions were imposed in response to its latest nuclear arms test in February. “It is really unfortunate that there has been so much focus and attention in the media and elsewhere on the subject of war, when what we really ought to be talking about is the possibility of peace. And I think there are those possibilities, Kerry earlier told a news conference in Tokyo after a meeting with his Japanese counterpart, Fumio Kishida. REUTERS

Mollusks. Florida battles slimy invasion by giant land snails

South Florida is fighting a growing infestation of one of the world’s most destructive, invasive species: the giant African land snail, which can grow as big as a rat and gnaw through stucco and plaster. More than 1,000 of the mollusks are being caught each week in Miami-Dade and 117,000 in total since the first snail was spotted by a homeowner in September 2011, said Denise Feiber, a spokeswoman for the Florida Department of

Residents will soon likely begin encountering them more often, crunching them underfoot as the snails emerge from underground hibernation at the start of the state’s rainy season in just seven weeks, Feiber said. Political support for gay rights is continuing to gather momentum. GETTY IMAGES

President Barack Obama may have made a slow start on gay rights issues, but by the end of his first term his record was such that a newsmagazine dubbed him the nation’s “first gay president.” Now activists want more. Fresh from historic Supreme Court arguments over same-sex unions, advocates want Obama to use his executive powers to fight discrimination at businesses, schools and military bases and stop waiting for action from a reluctant Congress. The Supreme Court is expected to rule in June on big issues: the constitutional right to gay

Now gay rights groups are pushing for additional measures they believe are key elements for cementing equality. Dorothy Robinson’s take on the world of gossip DOROTHY ROBINSON

Anne Frank: The ultimate ‘Belieber’? Justin Bieber visited the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam on Saturday. According to the Facebook page for the museum, he wrote the following in the guest book: “Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber.’” Ick! Friends, he seriously said that. Seriously. Someone needs a little lesson in humility and reverence. But, because this is The Word, we can’t let this go. So, in honor of his out-of-control ego, we’ve put together a look of what he’d say at other sacred sites to make it all about the Biebs.

Hiroshima: “Sorry, people of Hiroshima. Maybe if I was around back then, I could have saved you all, since my music is the bomb.” Mount Sinai: “Moses might have 10 commandments, but I only have one: Thou shall not film me smoking pot.”

Visiting the devastation wrought by Hurricane Sandy: “I wish you had all been blown away by my music instead.”

Styles going to strip clubs?

4 Harry Styles is 19, rich and had to spend a night in Newcastle, somewhere in the UK, after a concert, so of course he enjoyed a lap dance. At least according to the Sunday Mirror. “I had done a striptease and showed my boobs. He walked up to me and said, ‘Hi, I’m Harry. I have just done a gig in Newcastle.’” said the stripper. “I couldn’t believe Harry Styles wanted to spend time with me.” Then they did shots. Styles’ spokesperson denies the story.

has a long list of famous exes, and maybe she’s better off without them. Perez Hilton points out that, according to new data, her “Red” tour is currently outselling tours from ex Joe Jonas and the Jonas Brothers (by 19:1)

and John Mayer (57:1). Meanwhile, Harry Styles’ One Direction outsells Swift, but, according to Hilton’s math, you’ve got to divide that by five bandmates. And their hair gel costs. Swift’s in the black.

Kim and Kanye: Babies in Paris?

Sacre bleu? Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were checking out maternity wards in Paris, according to TMZ, leading

the site to speculate that perhaps they’d have their baby there. (It’s a city also known for its fashion and strict paparazzi

laws.) Then again, Kim just tweeted from a city that sounds a bit more likely, given the parents: beautiful Las Vegas.

For Biffy Clyro fans, ‘Opposites’ attract Music. The British band may be an opening act in the States — but in their homeland, their double album is No. 1. Members of Biffy Clyro have yet to father the offspring of Hollywood scions. But just because it hasn’t happened yet doesn’t mean they won’t soon join the ranks of Matthew Bellamy, the partner of Kate Hudson and the singer of Muse, for whom If you go

the Scottish rock trio is opening this spring. Because in Great Britain, Biffy Clyro are huge. So much so that upon release, their sixth record, “Opposites, a double album, shot to No. 1 on the British chart. They’re playing in North Jersey this Friday, which might seem a bit far — but it’s your chance to say you saw them before they blew up stateside. “Part of it is a response to how throwaway music is these days, singer and guitarist Simon Neil explains of the decision to go double. “You have someone like Rihanna who brings out an album every three months, it seems. We don’t want this record to be a song or two that people listen to now and forget in a week. We want these songs to become companions to people’s lives. And I really felt these songs needed to be together. Cleverly, “Opposites, which was issued in the U.S. last month, also

comes as a handy-sized single album. “A double album is for your fans, admits Neil. “Sometimes a double album can seem overwhelming. Our fans will get the double album, but it’s nice to know other people won’t be terrified to buy it. There’s no need to fear that “Opposites is a sprawling magnum opus. It’s tight and consists of wiry, anxious modern rock. “What we didn’t want to do was make it an endurance test like a lot of those ’70s prog-rock records. We wanted every song to be a moment and no part where it’s wandering. We didn’t feel the need to do a jazz odyssey on the second, he jokes. So, no grandiose Yeslike epic for Biffy then? “Never say never, he laughs.

The members of Biy Clyro can walk around in the U.S. without people recognizing them. Study this photo and help change that. / FRANK MADDOCKS A real muse

My 11-year-old self, that was how I fell in love with rock ’n’ roll, seeing these weird Sunset Strip sex aliens. That’s when I decided to devote my life to rock ’n’ roll.

Art. Stop by 30th Street Station to see KAW’s Companion, on display in advance of the artist’s PAFA exhibition.

There’s a chance the giant, cartoonish, traveling sculpture created by the Brooklyn-based artist KAWS — the one that now resides in 30th Street Station — is modeled after him in some strange way. The 16-foot seated creature with puffy gray hair and Mickey Mouselike hands covering his eyes is embarrassed that thousands of people will see him every day at the busy transit enter. “I’d be mortified if I was

a sculpture and had people walk by taking my photo every day, says KAWS, whose real name is Brian Donnelly. “That’s where the pose came from. You see that on the street all the time. You just walk by but you don’t ever think about what they are thinking. Is Donnelly like that in real life? “Perhaps, he says with a laugh. “At times, I can be. Donnelly, who grew up in Jersey City, joined forces with Amtrak and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts to install the sculpture, titled Companion. The piece started in a much smaller version in the late 1990s, as a tiny toy, while the big version headed overseas. “It started off as a proj-

When Donnelly was younger, he was a graffiti artist who painted over advertisements and billboards. He went legit, with a job as an animator for Disney, before he started making toys and sculpting. The character Companion is the first toy he ever made. It was inspired by graffiti artists. “You meet a lot of people and you become aware of the larger picture, he says. “I had this eagerness to discover new places.

It’s here as a preview to the KAWS Sculpture Plinth Exhibition at PAFA, opening this fall. A Donnelly sculpture will sit atop the column above the front door of PAFA’s Historic Landmark Building on North Broad. There hasn’t been anything up there for nearly seven decades, Donnelly says. It’s also the first contemporary sculpture exhibited at the train station. “I’m excited to reach people on their daily routine, he says.

Chadwick Boseman embodies Jackie Robinson in the baseball saga “42, which many of you saw this weekend. / WARNER BROS. PICTURES

Jackie Robinson movie hits it out of the park Box oďŹƒce. The Jackie Robinson biopic “42â€? shuts out opponent “Scary Movie 5â€? this weekend. Baseball drama “42,â€? the story of Jackie Robinson becoming the first black player in the major leagues more than 60 years ago, took home a win at the movie box office after scoring $27.3 million from weekend

ticket sales in the United States and Canada. The film about the Hall of Fame player topped industry forecasts for an opening of about $20 million. It defeated new horror spoof “Scary Movie 5, the second-place finisher with $15.2 million from Friday through Sunday, according to studio estimates. Animated Stone Age adventure film “The Croods took the No. 3 slot. The Dreamworks Animation production rung up sales of $13.2 million in its fourth week for a

total of $142.5 million in the U.S. and Canada. In international markets, Tom Cruise sci-fi thriller “Oblivion debuted with $61.1 million in 52 countries, distributor Universal Studios said. The film opens in the United States and Canada on Friday. Audiences thought “42 was a home run, awarding a rare A+ rating in polling by survey firm CinemaScore. Critics also gave it high marks, with 75 percent recommending the movie among reviews on the Rotten To-

matoes website. “Scary Movie 5 revived a franchise that was dormant for seven years after the first four films grossed a combined $818 million worldwide. In fourth place was action movie sequel “G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which earned $10.8 million during its third week in theaters. Last week’s box office winner “Evil Dead fell to fifth place this week, taking in $9.5 million. The horror film is a remake of Sam Raimi’s 1981 horror classic. REUTERS

Your thoughts aren’t what make you who you are

Emotions are fleeting. Don’t give them the power to define you. / THINKSTOCK IMAGES

Seventeenth-century French philosopher Rene Descartes is famously quoted as saying “I think, therefore I am.” But the latest psychological research suggests otherwise — that we are not our thoughts or our feelings. In fact, the research points more to what Buddhists and meditators have known for years — that our minds effortlessly produce an endless stream of both positive and negative thoughts and emotions that are pretty much beyond our control. Sad, mad, glad, bad (feeling guilt or disgust) and afraid are the primary colors of human emotions. We can expect to cycle through variations of these feelings several times on any given day, week or month. Just as our thoughts trigger feelings (believing something is wrong with us makes us feel bad), our feelings conversely trigger thoughts (a feeling of sadness may prompt us to find an explanation). In her book “Radical Acceptance,” psychologist and meditation teacher Dr. Tara Brach talks about the “trance of unworthiness”

The question

Last week, while everyone was enjoying the spring weather, I was in a really bad mood. Everything was bugging me — my noisy neighbors, my kids’ complaining, my allergies, my mounting bills and my endless to-do list. I should have been happy, but instead I was drowning in negativity. Is there something wrong with me?

that comes about when people criticize themselves for experiencing undesirable but perfectly natural emotions. Drawing from Buddhist wisdom, she notes that emotions are nothing but body sensations, which are, by nature, fleeting. Instead of recognizing them for what they are, we make ourselves feel worse when we react to them and give them power to define us, believing that our negative thoughts make us a bad person. What more, Brach notes the more we resist

our sensations through distractions, the more they persist. Instead, she suggests welcoming the full range of human experience by assuming a practice of “saying yes,” to whatever thoughts and feelings arise in the moment — yes, to the noisy neighbors, yes to complaining kids, yes to dread about mounting bills and even yes to allergies. Noticing and welcoming our experiences doesn’t necessarily solve the problem of how our bills piled up or why our children are complaining. But eliminating the layer of resistance allows us to soften into a gentler way of being so that we are less reactive and have more energy to face life as messy and wonderful as we find it. — This column is not intended to be used as a substitute for a private consultation with a mental health professional, nor is this therapist to be held liable for any actions taken as a result of this column. Cars: Also a weapon Why are the American people and politicians only talking about restrictions on guns and not automobiles? Automobiles kill more people every year than guns. In 2012 there were more than 70,000 people killed while only 30,000 people were killed by guns. It’s healthier to walk and take the bus or train. JOHN STUHR, VIA E-MAIL

Re: “Iron Lady beats Iron Curtain” (Metro, April 12-14) I must assume that letter-writer Frederick Beddell Jr. is an American, since we English folk don’t often use the “Jr.” after someone’s name, and that would explain quite a lot. Mr. Beddell’s comments would not have come from any person, even a revisionist Conservative, who had lived through the Thatcher years in England as I did. Nowadays, even those in England who supported her at the time, and did extremely well from her, have had some very harsh words to say about what she did and how she did it. The culture of selfishness is now recognized even by right-wing thinkers in the U.K. as the wrong approach. MARTIN LAST, VIA E-MAIL

What’s your favorite moment of the work day? We have been able to

help clients from all over the world in all kinds of circumstances, so I love it when I get a message thanking us. We had a client in the United Arab Emirates tell us that therapy wasn’t an option where she lived, so it was nice to know that we helped her feel heard. It keeps me going on tougher days. What is surprising about your job? I spend a lot of time alone. Even though my days are filled with meetings, connecting with clients and following up on leads, it’s all done remotely. Entrepreneurship can get lonely. I talk

to myself a lot! How does your job affects the larger community? I believe my team and I are making a difference in the world. With our little site, we’ve been able to provide therapy for people who wouldn’t have had access to it otherwise. We’ve all had moments where we wanted to scream or cry, so being able to be there for someone during those moments means a lot to me.

It’s that time of year again when we break out the cleaning products and industrial-sized trash bags. Whether you’re in the midst of a job search or looking to move up, a little elbow grease can make your career shine. If you’re actively looking for a new job, executive director of Rollins MBA’s career development center Jane Trnka suggests reassessing. “How many hours are you dedicating to your search? How are you allocating those hours? By creating a calendar and making deliberate plans, you will avoid the ‘I can do it tomorrow’ self-talk and take productive action. Cut down on the hours spent aimlessly searching and look with

precise goals in mind. If you’re employed but keeping an eye out for a more fulfilling position, look at what you’re putting on the Internet — it could hurt you. “Be thoughtful about what you’re posting, says Ben Martinez, HR director at the recruiting platform HireVue. “You might want to delete some old items if you feel they won’t go over well with a new boss. If you’re dusting off the cobwebs on your current position, it helps to get to the heart of what your job is. Dorie Clark, marketing consultant and author of “Reinventing You: Define Your Brand, Imagine Your Future explains. “Take control of your narrative by creating a two-sentence statement that explains where you’ve been and how that positions you for the future, she says. Now you’ve got a new view of how to move forward.

Working from home is still hard work Careers. Working from home isn’t all snooze buttons and bunny slippers. Working from home sounds like a dream, but the reality is that it requires a lot of skills. To work from home you must be self-disciplined and able to manage time, but there are many other characteristics that come with being a successful at-home worker. Distinguish work time and play time: It’s easy to fall into the trap of constant connection when working remotely, but that doesn’t help your stamina. You lock yourself in a home office during work, so why not turn off your phone during personal time? “You must make personal time off-limits for work as much as possible,” says Sabina Ptacin,

co-founder of the online business community Tin Shingle. “This could mean no laptops in the bedroom or no calls during dinner. Try to be a realistic business and know when to turn off and on.” Prepare for social isolation: Working outside of the office means no water cooler chatter. “Because remote workers are isolated from their co-workers, supervisors and customers, they must be comfortable fulfilling their social needs outside of work or via electronic channels like instant messaging, phone and email,” says Jeff Facteau, vice president of professional services at SHL, a talent measurement company. When you find yourself longing for actual human interaction, schedule a lunch meeting. Don’t forget, it’s still work: When you work according to your own

A Fulbright-er future can’t be put off

College. Fulbright scholarships give students the opportunity to study abroad. Over the last decade, colleges have increasingly created fellowship and scholarship centers to assist undergrads in applying for competitive opportunities. This month is when those centers start encouraging hopeful collegiates to consider a Fulbright: It can take upward of three months to create a compelling application.

Rona Buchalder, director of the Drexel University Fellowships Office, advises that it’s not easy to get a strong application together: “The core of the application is a one-page personal statement and a two-page proposal. You might think, ‘Oh, well that’s easy. I could do that this weekend,’ but really it takes several months and six to 10 drafts to get it right,” says Buchalder. The earlier the drafts are done, the better. The application, she says, is about much more than word count. “There’s a lot of detail that needs to fit in there,” Buchalder says. “On top of that, it

Study tips to ace your exams As the year reaches the final stretch and there are multiple exams to study for at once, we checked in with students and found common strategies for success for when it’s time to bury yourself in your books.

Give yourself the gift of time

Look at what you need to study for a couple weeks before the actual exam. Set aside some time each day to study and review different things. Every day you can recap what you learned the day before and build on it instead of cramming everything in the day before your test. It can be tricky, but it’s worth it.

Take a break (even if it’s for a game of Tetris)

Biology student Calling Helgason says when she doesn’t understand a concept she reads it out loud. “Talking through my notes breaks down the concepts and makes it easier to understand,” she says. It’s a tad embarrassing when her roommates walk in, but the good grades make up for her rosy cheeks.

Julie Dang, a Mathematical Science student, says her strategy is to flip back through her textbooks and focus on everything that she highlighted when she initially did her readings. Then, she writes out all the terminology and various formulas. “I do study questions over and over and over again,” Dang says. “I review my notes, and then I do more questions. Constantly practicing the formulas is the best way to remember them.”

Phillies

Halladay grabs 200th career win Roy Halladay turned back the clock yesterday and calmed Phillies’ fans nerves for at least one day as he gave up just one run to the Marlins in Miami and led Philly to a 2-1 victory. With the victory, Halladay collected his 200th career victory. The strong-armed righty wasn’t in a celebratory mood after the game, however, as his focus is still on trying to get the 6-6 Phillies at least above .500. Then they can start focusing on the bigger picture. “I want to win a World Series and that’s why I’m here, that’s why I play,” Halladay told CSNPhilly. com. “The personal milestones are great. My sons, my wife, my family — they’re all excited about it, but for me the goal is to get to the playoffs and win a World Series. When that happens I’m going to go in the back room and yell.” Laynce Nix provided the dramatics offensively for the Phils, belting a pinch-hit home run in the top of the ninth inning to break a 1-1 tie. The Phillies are at Cincinnati for a threegame set with the Reds tonight. MATT BURKE

NHL. Ugly, shortened season coming to quick close for Flyers By the end of this week, if not sooner, the Flyers will almost certainly be dead men skating, even though the regular season will go on another week. Following four straight losses in which they scored a total of three goals their “tragic” number is down to six. If the No. 8-seed Rangers get six points — or five in the case of the Islanders and four with the Senators — the Flyers will officially be eliminated from playoff contention. In other words, the Flyers’ next big mo-

ment will be the April 29 NHL draft lottery, where they’re hoping to land one of the top picks in what’s considered a strong draft. Of course, no one’s going to admit that until it really is over for head coach Peter Laviolette’s underachieving 17-21-3 team which heads to Montreal tonight, before hosting the Rangers tomorrow — a potential four-point swing off the tragic number. They’ll point to injuries, the NHL’s truncated 48-game season and bad bounces for their decline. JON MARKS

Expect offseason of change after 76ers disappoint NBA. Head coach Doug Collins could be the first domino to fall after a lost season. During yesterday’s final home game of the season, the Sixers had the past in the house with Dr. J and Moses Malone. They also had the present — a team playing out the string of a lost season. The future? It’s cloudy with a strong chance of change. Ever since Doug Collins was hired in May 2010, he’s been the face of the franchise. And if Andrew Bynum had been healthy this season, Collins would have been a good bet to

return for a fourth season. Now, however, the coach’s impending departure is likely the first domino in what will be a volatile off-

season. He still won’t comment on his offseason plans, but appears resigned to moving on. “I give [owner] Josh [Harris] and the organization a lot of credit. They swung for the fences, Collins said before a 91-77 win over the Cavs yesterday. “And unfortunately, Andrew got hurt — and Jason Richardson — and it changed the dynamic of our season. Perhaps the more important step will be redoing the roster. Bynum, Nick Young, Dorell Wright, Royal Ivey and Damien Wilkins will all be unrestricted free agents.

Minor moves

Players talk about making small changes While the organization will likely start making changes with the head coach, the players think the problems aren’t so large. According to Thaddeus Young, the longest-tenured Sixer at the tender age of 24, the piece the team needs was under the nose all season. “We got good wings, we have solid players up and down the roster, Young said. “We got shooters, we got ballhandlers, we have grunt-work guys. We just need that guy that’s going to put us over the top, centerwise. While the search for “that guy continues, the Sixers insist that lessons have been learned.

Scott wins at Masters in playoff

NFL. Steelers decide to bring back receiver Sanders, match offer

Ben Roethlisberger will get his way. Speedy wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders will be back with the Steelers next season after they matched his offer sheet from the Patriots. He signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal. “Glad the business side is out of the way,” Sanders tweeted after the deal was signed. If the Steelers hadn’t brought back the slot receiver, they would’ve received a third-round pick from the Patriots. Roethlisberger had reportedly lobbied for the team to bring back Sanders, who had 44 catches last season. METRO

The green jacket will be making the long flight to Australia this year. Adam Scott nailed a long birdie putt on the second playoff hole to clinch the Masters title over former winner Angel Cabrera. It was the second big putt in three holes for Scott, who drained an 18-foot putt on No. 18 for birdie to give himself a one-stroke lead over Cabrera at 9-under. But Cabrera himself made a birdie putt on the final hole to secure a playoff with the 32-year-old from Adelaide.

Cabrera, the chainsmoking Argentine, parred the second playoff hole, setting up Scott for the dramatic clincher. Tiger Woods, meanwhile, finished tied for fourth place at 5-under and almost appeared to be getting back into the hunt several times as the field receded to him. Woods finished his final round with a 2-under 70. The two strokes penalized him Saturday morning ended up not costing him a shot at the title in the end. Scott’s previous best finish in a major was second in last year’s British Open. He takes home the first place purse of $8 million — and one of the ugliest jackets you could find.
