TOP FIVE REASONS TO LOVE CHRIS ROCK’S ‘TOP FIVE’ “

1. IT’S A VERY FUNNY MOVIE, BUT IT’S NOT JUST A FUNNY MOVIE. Rock’s distinctive voice as a filmmaker emerges, and he has a lot to say (no surprise) about what drives people to drink, the pains of sobriety, the craft of comedy, the absurdity of celebrity culture, Obama, George W. Bush, Tyler Perry, rigorous honesty, vulnerability, forgiveness, and the legacy of hip-hop. 2. Even if I warn you now, you won’t be prepared for the emotion of seeing Tracy Morgan happy onscreen and doing what he does best as one of Andre’s wisecracking relatives. As soon as Tracy’s face appeared onscreen the night I saw the movie, THE ENTIRE THEATER BURST INTO APPLAUSE. 3. Credit goes to Rock for writing the greatest slam from a fake film critic ever: ‘I WOULDN’T SEE IT IF IT WAS PLAYING IN MY GLASSES.’ 4. If there is a wave of feather-related sex injuries after this movie comes out, BLAME CHRIS ROCK. 5. YOU WILL NEVER THINK OF TAMPONS THE SAME WAY AGAIN. and... 6. BECAUSE EVERYONE ALWAYS GIVES SIX! You will hear a very plausible theory on where Tupac is, but only you can decide if you’re willing to watch every Tyler Perry movie when you leave the theater in order to follow up on it.

West Roxbury residents say a proposed high-pressure natural gas pipeline could put their densely populated neighborhood at risk of a deadly explosion. “I’ve seen some pretty horrific things,” NatGas Consulting President Mark McDonald, a gas safety expert who lives in West Roxbury, told a crowd of about 100 concerned citizens at a community meeting Wednesday night at the Irish Social Club. The West Roxbury Lateral Pipeline is a five-mile spur off the larger Algonquin Incremental Market Project, which covers four states and will be coming from Westwood through Dedham and into West Roxbury in No-

vember 2016. A metering and regulation station would be located in an area of residential homes and adjacent to an active stone quarry on Grove Street where blasting occurs regularly. McDonald authored the 2014 Massachusetts Natural Gas Leak Safety Act, which mandates the repair of the thousands of gas pipeline leaks across the Commonwealth. “The devastation would more than double what happened in San Bruno,” said McDonald of a potential explosion. “This just doesn’t belong here. The risks are pretty significant. Almost every single gas explosion I’ve looked at was preventable. They happen. It’s a matter of fact.” McDonald said Spectra Energy Partners, the Texas company leading the highpressure pipeline, has not been forthcoming about the risks involved. Marylee Hanley, Spectra’s Director of Stakeholder Outreach, says the company began communicating with local stakeholders about the project in 2012. She said the company has been operating pipelines safely for more than 60 years. Growing consumer demand for gas makes the new pipeline necessary, Hanley said. “More than 60 percent of

electricity generated in New England is generated through natural gas,” she said. “Pipelines in general, especially new pipelines, are very safe,” said Chris Knittel, a professor of energy economics at MIT. “Of course nobody likes digging of any kind in their neighborhood. I’m sure everyone would prefer a pipeline be somewhere else rather than in their neighborhood,” he said. In a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the government agency that monitors pipelines, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh asked that the project be reevaluated and more thoroughly examined. He also asked that

the route be altered to heed the “reasonable protections” of West Roxbury and surrounding towns. FERC spokesperson Tamara Young-Allen said safety concerns will be addressed in the final environmental impact statement, which is still pending before the commission. West Roxbury activists said they plan to organize action groups to create a petition drive and conduct doorto-door canvassing. They are also planning vigils and demonstrations. Fast-food workers push for wages “I only make $9.50 and I have a six-year-old. I basically feel like I can’t survive. It’s so hard. But I think if we keep on striking and doing what we’re doing we’ll eventually win the $15 per hour. Someone has to realize we’re worth it.”

Kahazijah White 23, McDonald’s shift manager

“The majority of our franchisees pay above the minimum wage, and we believe state and local governments are the right forum to have this conversation versus a federal minimum wage discussion in Congress.”

Michelle King Dunkin Donuts spokeswoman

Employees making minimum wage descended on downtown Boston to call for an increase to $15 per hour, which they say is necessary to live. DANNY MCDONALD More than 100 people gathered in downtown Boston to call for raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour, packing the Burger King at the Park Street T stop, and holding signs that read “Dunkin’ Runs on My Wages” and “Subway

Eat Fresh, Pay Me More.” The protest, organized by MASSUniting, a community organizing group, then walked up to a Dunkin’ Donuts across from the state House before making its way across the Common.

“It’s hard to live off of. With bills, a child and if you’re going to school to try and better yourself, it’s hard to do that. You need two jobs. You’re struggling day by day, check by check. It’s not a livable wage. Low pay is not OK.”

“We go to work for $8, $9 per hour and we don’t have time to spend with our family. We’re working doubles, working three jobs. You have no time for life. You work to have fun with your family, take them out to eat or whatever. We don’t have time for that.”

Ralph Latortue 22, Burger King

“I have a daughter, a girlfriend who is the mother of my daughter and her mother, who I support. Everything goes toward bills. I would like to save some to get a better place. I asked for a raise and my manager just laughed at me.”

Bridgewater University withholding sexual assault suspect’s name Bridgewater State University is reportedly refusing to identify the person charged with assaulting two female students at the school, according to the Associated Press. The man has already appeared in court, but the university is citing a law approved earlier this year that bans police departments from releasing information about domestic or sexual assault arrests. The rapes happened in September and November, university officials told the AP. University administrators had been under fire from students in recent months for not alerting the students about sexual assaults on campus. METRO

Cleveland police use excessive force: US Justice Department The announcement. It comes at a tense moment between law enforcement and communities across the U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said on Thursday that an investigation by the U.S. Justice Department has found that the Cleveland Police Department systematically engages in excessive use of force against civilians. The investigation began in March 2013, and it carries added weight after an incident in November when a Cleveland police officer shot dead a 12-year-old boy who was carrying what turned out to be a

replica gun that typically fires plastic pellets. Holder was scheduled to meet with police, community leaders and elected officials in Cleveland on Thursday to begin discussing reform measures. Previous reforms have included installing a federal monitor to oversee the department. The Cleveland investigation was launched after what Holder called a series of troubling high-profile police use-of-force incidents that brought appeals from city leaders for a federal investigation. In one incident, Cleveland police engaged in a 22-mile highspeed chase in November 2012 that ended with officers firing nearly 140 rounds into a car, killing its two unarmed occupants. One officer was charged with voluntary manslaughter. REUTERS

Former first lady. She lost the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination to Barack Obama. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is vetting people and developing a policy platform ahead of a possible 2016 run for the presidency, her spokesman said Thursday. That’s an important turn for the Clinton operation, which spent much of the past two years playing down her level of political engagement. It’s the most pronounced acknowledgment of what has long been obvious to most political observers: She is preparing to run for president.

Clinton has met recently with former political aides Guy Cecil and Robby Mook, according to Politico. Longtime advisers say both men, along with California political strategist Ace Smith and EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock, rank high on the list of likely suspects to run her second bid for the presidency.

In November 2012, she turned down Obama’s offer to remain in her job for his second term. Since then, she’s traveled the country giving paid speeches, raised money for her family’s foundation and written a book, “Hard Choices, about her tenure as the nation’s top diplomat. BLOOMBERG

Are you among the estimated 19 percent of people in North America suffering from some kind of bowel issue? A recent UCLA study found a drug-free method that helped a majority of participants. Researchers focused on the effectiveness of perineal self-acupressure, which involves putting pressure on the area between the anus and genitals. They gave about 100 participants just three to

five minutes of instruction in a technique aimed to break up hard stools, relax muscles and stimulate bowel movements. Almost three-quarters of patients reported that it helped improve their condition and trigger a bowel movement. Over half also said it provided hemorrhoid relief.

A bad marriage really can break your heart We’ve all heard the expression “dying of a broken heart,” but a study of older couples and cardiovascular health found this may actually be true. Most notably, the quality of a marriage appears to affect women’s heart health more than men’s. What’s more is that heart disease also impacts marriage quality for female spouses, but not for men. The Michigan State University study also found that an unsatisfying marriage has a bigger impact on health than a good one benefits well-being. MARIANNE HAYES

What if you could know your newborn’s future? Genetic testing. New parents want a glimpse into the medical crystal ball. The birth of a child is already a highly emotional time for parents. So would they want to add the knowledge of their newborn’s full genetic potential to their list of joys and worries? A new study says yes — but not all parents. “Several other studies have measured parents’ interest in newborn genomic screening, but none focused on new parents in the first 48 hours,” says senior author Dr. Robert C. Green, a geneticist and researcher at Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. “Since this is when genomic testing would be of the greatest value, it is

especially important to study parents’ attitudes immediately postpartum.” As genetic testing becomes a routine part of clinical care, and the scope of the information that genome sequencing yields increases, researchers and doctors are gauging inter-

est in going beyond existing mandatory genetic screening done shortly after birth. Current mandatory tests include 21 conditions (though some states test for as many as 30) affecting metabolism, blood disorders and other complications that could pose

a short- or long-term threat to the newborn’s health and development. The study is the first to examine new parents’ attitudes toward genetic testing through a survey of 514 parents of healthy babies within 48 hours of their birth at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. It found that if the service is available, both parents (surveyed separately) expressed interest regardless of their backgrounds: 82.7 percent said they were somewhat (36 percent), very (28 percent) or extremely (18 percent) interested in newborn genomic testing. Only one group of parents was less likely to favor genetic screening: those with pre-existing concerns about their baby’s health. EVA KIS @thisiskis

FILM

Why is the Best Actress Oscar race weak this year? Film. A look at how the thinnest race in recent memory is shaping up.

The shoo-in:

The sure-thing nominations:

CULTURE

Julianne Moore, ‘Still Alice’ Seriously, Moore’s toughest acting job now is continuing to be surprised each time she nabs a trophy between now and February 22. She’s basically this year’s McConaughey.

The Oscar race this year is already something of a headscratcher, and right at the center of it is a surprisingly light field of Best Actress contenders. Despite a clear frontrunner — Julianne Moore for her devastating performance in "Still Alice," which comes with the alarming fact that she hasn't already won an Oscar — the category is looking a bit thin. And while that's more a commentary on the state of film and lead roles for women this year, it doesn't mean there aren't enough outstanding performances out there to make this race interesting. Here's a look at the contenders.

2 Might we

also recommend

Emily Blunt, ‘Into the Woods’

FOX SEARCHLIGHT

Reese Witherspoon, ‘Wild’ Previous winner Witherspoon turns in a solidly harrowing performance in “Wild,” but it falls just short of the mark.

It might be tough to single out anyone in this sprawling ensemble as a “lead,” but Blunt comes closest as the Baker’s Wife. And she’s a standout in that big cast, holding her own against Meryl Streep, even.

NED EHRBAR @Nedrick ned.ehrbar@metro.us

SONY PICTURES CLASSICS

The strong possibilities:

Hilary Swank, ‘The Homesman’ LIAM DANIEL, FOCUS FEATURES

Despite owning two Oscars (for “Boys Don’t Cry” and “Million Dollar Baby”), Swank has wound up searching for that comeback vehicle to bring her a third trophy for a while now. This one comes close, but maybe voters just aren’t in the mood for a gritty frontier drama this year, even a crazy one directed by and co-starring Tommy Lee Jones.

Felicity Jones, ‘The Theory of Everything’ It took some time for critics to see past the brilliance of her co-star — and another shoo-in nominee — Eddie Redmayne, but Jones should be recognized as well for her stellar work as theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking’s first wife, Jane.

DAWN JONES

PETER MOUNTAIN

Scarlett Johansson, ‘Under the Skin’ If the Academy wanted to play things a little riskier, it could recognize the “Avengers” star’s transformative — and sometimes silent — work in Jonathan Glazer’s hypnotic and eerie science-fiction thriller.

Jennifer Aniston, ‘Cake’ Some have dismissed Aniston’s turn in this indie — as a divorcee who gets involved with a hallucinating widower (Sam Worthington) — as little more than makeupfree stunt-casting. But despite the shocking sight of her abstaining from makeup, the actress shows off some impressive dramatic chops — which anyone who’s seen “The Good Girl” or “Friends with Money” already knew she had.

CINELOU RELEASING

MERRICK MORTON

Rosamund Pike, ‘Gone Girl’ People might have come for a glimpse at Ben Affleck’s junk, but they stayed for Pike’s surprising, chilly performance. Some of us, though, have been boosters of the English actress for years, so there.

Stay home this slow movie weekend Good job, Hollywood! The holiday season is a great time for movies, with people clamoring to see mindless entertainments. But for whatever reason, there’s only one new film opening nationally this weekend: a horror movie called “The Pyramid.” It will be cold and/or rainy, so if you want to curl up at home with something big and possibly stupid, here are some options.

‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’

‘Marvel’s The Avengers’ Netflix Instant

Netflix Instant

WARNER BROS.

‘Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow’ XFINITY Now confusingly listed under its catchy tagline instead of its forgettable title, the latest Tom Cruise spectacular is, as it happens, by far the most entertaining Hollywood product of the year — no less than a “Groundhog Day” with aliens. Give it a chance, then spread the word.

The first half of “Mockingjay” is burning up the box office, but let’s be honest: Its calm study of the pains of revolution is not the “Hunger Games” you came to see. If you miss the action and the Ken Russell-esque flamboyance, head online, where the second part still streams.

MARVEL

MURRAY CLOSE

It’s pretty weird that there isn’t presently a Marvel film in theaters. One day, it seems, one of the comics giant’s films will be released every other week. Till then, you can always dig through the most super-sized of the bunch, in which all the big superheroes (and a few smaller, lesser ones you barely think about) banded together to fight, was it aliens? Which baddie is being battled and why are never important in these things, though all you really need to know is this is the one where Hulk beats up Loki for 10 solid seconds and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow comes off as the most bad-ass of the bunch — and, of course, the one who won’t be getting her own solo movie anytime soon.

How romantic comedies are failing us I’m a big movie buff. Movies are an escape from reality, and as such the writers and directors demand one thing from the audience: suspension of disbelief. I have no issue with suspension of disbelief. But for movies set in the real world, what I’m not capable of is suspension of realistic possibility. Romantic comedies are the lowest common denominator for what I call Offensive Visual Improbabilities. Lots of viewers love them, but what bothers me are three things: the male characters, the female characters and the dynamics between them. In most rom-coms, men assume one of three roles: The Loner/Drifter/Bad Boy, The Lovable Loser or The Rich Tycoon. As for women, they usually assume the role of The Career Woman, The Caretaker/Savior or The Innocent One. What interests me are the “lessons” the viewer learns — and these examples lead to unconscious expectations. Here are some good examples:

For exclusive commentary, visit Metro.us/blogs. Do this:

Go figure: “Pretty Woman” sets a bad precedent for realistic relationships. / GETTY IMAGES

The Bad Boy The Bad Boy, our first archetype, is emotionally unavailable and distant. He shows our heroine his interest in the beginning (getting her hooked), and she spends the remainder of the film convincing him to love her/ change his ways/not leave. She finds validation in his decision to love her (or not), to change (or not) and/or to leave (or not).

The Lovable Loser He’s the man with tons of potential — but he isn’t really making an effort to achieve anything. Our heroine can see his potential, but he is unwilling to change/learn/grow. Does she leave? Of course not. She puts in more and more and more until he does change — and he changes (wait for it) for her.

The Rich Tycoon You know the one. He’s great-looking, wealthy, urbane, great in bed, loving, but also broken in some way. She’ll begin by sacrificing her morals, but think better of it and break things off. Inevitably, she’ll discover she was wrong (in true “women are so naive” form) and he’ll win her over. *yawn* The female characters in these movies vacillate between various actions and emotions: loving, allowing, angry,

When you tell people you love them, make sure you’re ready, not just lonely.

Don’t seek their attention — require their respect. It lasts longer.

Don’t tell them you love them, show them. If you can’t, move on and let them find love.

bitchy, controlling, accepting, confused. They are usually trying to figure the guy out and then adjust their lives to accommodate him. There’s nothing wrong with entertainment or the suspension of disbelief. But this formula that shows women over and over how they are the ones who need to constantly adjust and sacrifice who they are for the sake of a relationship is plain wrong.

In the ongoing conflict between lifestyle guru Martha Stewart and self-styled upstart Gwyneth Paltrow, Rachael Ray has decided to be Switzerland. During a visit to “Watch What Happens Live,” Ray was pressed to take a side in the dispute and chose to remain neutral. “I’m on team food. I think everybody who likes to eat has a different take on it, and everybody’s opinion should be respected,” she tells

Andy Cohen. “I love Gwyneth Paltrow. I think that she is very devoted to everything she puts her mind to.” And Stewart? “I have to have nothing but respect for Martha Stewart. She is a forerunner. I wouldn’t have a job without the people who came before me. … Martha Stewart created an avenue for women who work in lifestyle television — period. You have to have respect for all people’s opinions ... in my opinion.”

Axl Rose is the latest celebrity death hoax victim

Good news for Guns N’ Roses fans! The reports of singer Axl Rose’s death have been greatly exaggerated. A fake MSNBC report — much like the recent hoax claiming Macaulay Culkin had perished — went out recently saying Rose, 52, had been found dead in his West Hollywood home. But while totally bogus, the hoax did raise at least one question for the man himself: “If I’m dead, do I still have to pay taxes?” he tweeted. Personally, I’m still reeling from the fact that Axl Rose is 52 now.

Loni Anderson gets in on the auction game, too

If Burt Reynolds can auction off a whole bunch of personal junk, then so can ex-wife Loni Anderson. The former “WKRP in Cincinnati” star is looking to unload nearly 65 items she received from Reynolds over the years, including a nearly nude portrait of herself. “He loved art, so he would go pick out a favorite artist and then he would commission them to do a portrait of me,” Anderson says. “So pretty soon, there are a lot of portraits of me.” So, um, any takers?

Don’t forget to eat while you shop Roundup. If you’re shopping up a storm for the holidays, try our picks for where to grab a quick bite to refuel. The holiday shopping season in Boston is practically an extreme sport. Whether it’s searching for deals in Downtown Crossing or luxury shopping at Copley Place, chances are you’ll be competing in a retail version of “The Hunger Games.” Take a load off and refuel with a good meal at some of these neighborhood favorites that are just a hop from some of Boston’s biggest retail centers.

Copley Place/ Prudential Center/ Newbury Street Get ready to tackle Boston’s

most tourist-filled area during the biggest shopping season of the year. Enjoy a jumbo-sized grilled tuna salad or a bacon cheeseburger at 5 Napkin Burger. If you want to revel in your retail success with a burger and fries, choose from salmon, beef, turkey or falafel at Met Back Bay, and cap the meal off with sticky toffee pudding paired with brown-butter ice cream. 5 Napkin Burger: 105 Huntington Ave., 5napkinburger.com Met Back Bay: 279 Dartmouth St., Metbackbay.com

Mall at Chestnut Hill/The Street It’s no secret that many Bostonians find it easiest to go beyond the borders of Boston in order to get their shopping done. If your shopping odyssey takes you outside the city, you can still find some good places to grab a bite. For instance, the Chestnut Hill Mall’s newest restaurant, Besito Mexican,

is the perfect place for a midshopping-spree meal. Get your energy back with table-side guacamole or their trademark Filete de Res al Chipotle, a Negra Modelo-marinated filet mignon. Cambridge/ Somerville/ Assembly Row Getting ready to hit the stores at Cambridgeside? Head across the street beforehand for dinner at Restaurant Dante, where you can carbo-load on pumpkin and apple-filled ravioli in anticipation of standing in line for three hours. Out at Assembly Row, Somerville’s new shopping plaza that slightly resembles a theme park, check out their newest restaurant, River Bar. Order

grilled corn with Mexican cheese or the housemade Chinese Sausage Sub with black bean mayo and red cabbage. If it’s been a long day of retail warfare, pair your meal with an Absinthe Frappe by the crackling fireplace. If you dare to dive into Downtown Crossing this holiday season, refuel in between exhausting Macy’s and H&M visits with a healthier twist on Vietnamese street food at Sa Pa, where you can slurp a steaming bowl of beef or vegetarian pho. Don’t forget to snag some egg rolls, which are made by the owner’s mother. Looking to grab some uber-healthy fuel on the go instead of sitting down for a meal? Head to Thirst Juice Co. on School Street where you can chug the “Field of Greens” juice, an energizing combo of Escarole, cucumber, apple and jalapeno. It is part of every MBTA driver’s job to ensure that every rider who pays the fare on board puts the right amount of money in the machine. Rondo and Kobe are breakfast buds

The Celtics-Lakers rivalry ain’t what it used to be as both franchises are struggling in 2014. To underscore the apathy, Celtics star Rajon Rondo and Lakers star Kobe Bryant met for breakfast Thursday morning at The Paramount in Boston. Rondo’s Celtics host Bryant’s Lakers at TD Garden Friday (7:30 p.m., CSNNE).

MLS. The Revolution will be looking to bring home the MLS Cup for the first time as they face the Galaxy in Southern California. Other than the fact that it comes on an NFL Sunday (why not Saturday?), MLS has basically lucked into what should be a tremendous showcase event for its league, which is still growing. The New England Revolution travel to Carson, California this weekend to take on the host Los Angeles Galaxy at the StubHub Center (Sunday, 3 p.m., ESPN). New England should get a boost in the TV ratings since the Patriots don’t play until Sunday night down the coast in San Diego. Befitting of the biggest match of the season with two very supportive groups of fans, there is no lack of interesting storylines or subplots for what you have to conclude are the two rightful conference champions. Here are three things to watch for:

1

MLS Cup history

Los Angeles is bidding for its fifth MLS title. They are currently tied with DC United for the most Cups in league history at four apiece. There have been 18 MLS Cups and LA has been By the numbers

involved in nearly half off them (4-4), so they lead in n all-time appearances. Most ost recently, the Galaxy won back-to-back titles in 2011 1 and 2012. Conversely, New ew England is trying to shed its label as the Buffalo Bills of MLS. The Revolution are 0-4 in MLS Cups, including a stretch where they lost three years in a row (2005-07). It’s been a while, but these clubs have some past history in n the MLS Cup as Los Angeles les won 1-0 in overtime overr New England in both 2002 02 and 2005.

Landon Donovan’s last game, again Generally regarded as the top American player of alltime, Galaxy forward Landon Donovan announced earlier this season that 2014 would be his last. That means that Sunday’s game is the final time that you’ll ever see Donovan in a competitive setting. He has already won five MLS Cups and he’s the league’s all-time leading goal-scorer (136). Neutral fans will, no doubt, be rooting for Donovan to go out on top one last time.

Part of the reason that the matchup this Sunday in Southern California is so appealing, even to casual viewers, is because there are great players all over the field for both squads. Irish forward Robbie Keane captured the 2014 MLS Most Valuable Player award on Wednesday, beating out Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen, among others. Meanwhile, Landon Donovan is very familiar with his former U.S. teammate, New England midfielder Jermaine Jones. Revolution forward Charlie Davies used to play with Donovan on the U.S. national team as well and Galaxy central defender Omar Gonzalez was one of the pleasant surprises for the Americans during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Pats look to lower boom on Chargers The Patriots generally don’t lose a lot of games in the regular season, but they almost never lose two in a row. That’s bad news for the Chargers, who will host a Patriots team fresh off a 26-21 loss to the Green Bay Packers. The loss snapped New England’s seven-game winning streak. The Chargers, on the other hand, are coming off a big win in Baltimore. Since the beginning of the 2003 season, the Patriots are 36-4 in regular-season games following a loss, including nine straight wins since 2012. In his career, Tom Brady is 37-8 in games following a loss.

In other words, expect Bill Belichick to light a fire under his team’s collective you-knowwhat this week in San Diego, a place the Patriots traveled to immediately from Green Bay and spent the week in. Sure, some of the players had a little fun at the Los Angeles Clippers game with Justin Bieber on Monday night, but the focus has shifted back to football. Here are three things to watch for Sunday (8:30 p.m., NBC):

1

To run or not to run? Good luck trying to figure out what the Patriots are thinking when it comes to running the ball. Jonas Gray ran for 201 yards three games ago — and has had one carry

since. LeGarrette Blount had two touchdowns in his first game back with the Patriots, but just 10 carries last week in Green Bay. With the Patriots playing catch-up to the Packers all game, they weren’t as balanced as they would have liked on offense. But it would be a big surprise to see the Patriots go down double-digits to the Chargers. Establishing the run game early against the Chargers’ 15th-ranked run defense should be a priority.

mobile and more of a pocket passer than those two. If he gets too much time to throw ... watch out. Rivers and wide receiver Keenan Allen are back at it, as Allen has 225 yards and three touchdowns over his last two games.

Flowing Rivers Philip Rivers can throw the ball with the best of them, but he does have a bit of a different style than Andrew Luck or Aaron Rodgers. He’s less

Old vs. new tight ends Before there was Rob Gronkowski, there was Antonio Gates. Oh ... there IS Antonio Gates. The 34-year-old Chargers tight end is in his 12th season and is still going strong with nine touchdowns and counting this year. He’s 10th all-time in touchdown receptions (96) and ranks first as a tight end. Gronk (51 TDs) isn’t there yet, but he’s climbing the ranks fast. JAMES TOSCANO

“THE MOVIE CHRIS ROCK WAS BORN TO MAKE. ‘TOP FIVE’ IS NOT ONLY HILARIOUS, SHOCKING, AND SEXY, but it’s also a brilliant take on pop culture in America today. Chris Rock has never been better. ‘Top Five’ does that rare thing: the movie makes you think while you’re laughing.” W MAGAZINE, Lynn Hirschberg

“THE THEATER WAS LITERALLY ROCKED WITH LAUGHTER FROM START TO FINISH. For 100 minutes, he piles on one hilarious sequence after another in a barrage of hard-hitting humor that has rarely been so successfully dished out in a single film.” THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, Jordan Mintzer

“CHRIS ROCK DAZZLES IN FULL META JACKET. Broad and filthy. ‘Top Five’ mines the zeitgeist with humor and a light touch.” THE GUARDIAN, Catherine Shoard

“DAZZLINGLY FUNNY. ‘Top Five’ has the freewheeling, improvisational style that’s made Rock a comedy legend, plus a jaw-dropping list of comedians in parts both big and small. Rock is sharper than he’s ever been on film.” TIME, Sam Lansky

“A CHARMINGLY TOUGH-KNUCKLED EXPRESSION of an artist’s vision in a pure and classic mode. With ‘Top Five,’ Chris Rock has made his ‘Annie Hall.’ Rock clearly opened a vein and poured all he had into this.” VANITY FAIR, Jordan Hoffman

CHRIS ROCK IS A GENIUS – YOU ALREADY KNEW THAT...

CHRIS ROCK IS A TRUE INSPIRATION AND HIS NEW MOVIE, ‘TOP FIVE,’ IS A TRUE HIP-HOP COMEDIC CLASSIC. I’m so inspired he reminds me that every human being can rise to new heights. The key ingredient is faith. And he believed in himself to be greater than many others predicted he could be. He had conviction in his beliefs and worked his ass off to realize his potential. He rose far beyond what people expected, including me. Now, everybody go see his movie...

IT’S GENIUS, AND SO IS HE.” WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY
