One more time: Patriot nation celebrates win Jubilation. A tight game kept the fans on the edges of their barstools across Boston.

Faneuil Hall exploded in jubilation after the Patriots won their fourth Super Bowl Sunday. Police could be seen crowded around bar windows watching the game. Faneuil Hall was silent until the Patriots intercepted Russell Wilson’s pass at the goal line at which point the bars exploded. The New England Patriots took home a win over the Seattle Seahawks, 28 to 24. “I thought that bobbling catch was no way to end the game. I love the fact that the Patriots won. It was a just result,” said Pat Himes, 28, of Somerville. “I thought we were done. That was crazy. I thought it was going to end badly. I don’t even know what I just saw. Whatever it was, it was awesome,” Matt Rotondi, 43, of Winchester. Earlier in the day, Bostonians trickled into the city’s many sports bars, wearing New England Patriots garb and cheerfully raising pints. Their sobriety, however, would be short-lived as they prepared for a night of raucous sports watching. Paddy O’s Manager Elaine Eccles sat at the bar around 4 p.m., preparing for a raucous crowd that was sure to fill the pub’s small space later that day. “We absolutely see a huge crowd, they come for the big screen TVs. We should be rocking tonight,” said Eccles. “It’s going to be a lot of beer and a lot of shots and a lot of wings.” Unlike many bars in Boston, Paddy O’s had no plan to close its doors at halftime. “The more the merrier, that’s the way we’re looking at it,” she said. By 6 p.m., most bars were filled in anticipation of the Super Bowl. Bostonians put the socalled “Deflategate” scandal

behind them by the time the big game rolled around. There were bands of loud, happy and somewhat drunk people roaming around. It was a jubilant scene. One gent roamed around in a unicorn mask. By 10:30 p.m., crowds had grown larger at Faneuil Hall. Jacob Young, a 21-year-old student from Pennsylvania, said “I’ve never seen anything like that before. This was my first championship in Boston.” At 10:35 p.m., Mayor Mar-

tin Walsh’s office sent out a joyful statement on the big win. “Congratulations to Patriots and all of Patriot Nation on a well earned Super Bowl victory. You have made Boston and New England proud - cue the duck boats!” Walsh said. Details of the Patriots victory parade will be made available Monday. ‘Seeking closure’ in two Boston bars Boston. For Pats fans, a night of nerves. The Phoenix Landing in Cambridge was full of confidence throughout the first half. Tom Brady would prevail, said the believers. No, they didn’t want to talk about deflated footballs. Chris Meoli, a 32-yearold teacher from Cambridge decked out in a Rodney Harrison jersey, recalled the last time the Patriots were in the Super Bowl. He was teaching in China. The game started at 4 a.m. Class started at 7. “I decided to put the game on in the classroom, as sort of a cultural exchange thing,” he said. “But then we lost and I cancelled class for the rest of the day. I didn’t want them to see what I was capable of.” As the national anthem was being sung, he was confident the night would end with a Pats victory. “Brady can’t lose another Super Bowl,” he said. “More importantly I can’t handle them

losing another Super Bowl.” Molly Mowery, a 30-yearold teacher from Malden, was equally confident. “Tom Brady’s going to play awesome because he plays best when he’s pissed off,” she said. Dan Gosselin, a 33-year-old from Brewster, who just moved back from Texas and is currently unemployed, recalled past Patriots Super Bowls between sips of a Cape Codder. There were the riots at UMass. He was in New Orleans for the 18-1 game, and in Texas with his inlaws for the second loss to the Giants. “That was bad. I was drunk and upset and yelling and swearing and the grandmother was there, she’s in her 90s,” he said. For the Patriots’ first touchdown, the crowd erupted in cheers. Arms aloft, they yelled incoherently. There was no talk of strategy or Xs and Os. Similar scenes played out up the road at Parlor Sports in Somerville. “I feel like they’re starting

Mayer Grashin, a 33-year-old lawyer who grew up in Alaska and Seattle, had shaved the No. 12 into the back of his head in honor of the Seahawks’ “12th man.” When Seattle scored, the bar was silent, except for Grashin. “I feel pretty good. We always start slow,” he said just before halftime. “I think we all know Seattle’s the better team.”

Nearby, a message was scrawled on a chalkboard, “Our balls are fully inspected & ready for play.” Cait Burbridge, a 31-year-old homelessness advocate from Somerville, said Boston was seeking redemption for the past two Super Bowl losses. “If you notice it’s all ‘Finish the Job’ not ‘Let’s go Pats’,” she said at halftime. “We’re all seeking closure.” DANNY MCDONALD @DMacCash

Snowstorm. Boston schools closed Monday due to new snowfall Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said Boston public schools would be closed Monday as more than a foot of snow is expected to drop on Boston, giving area students their fourth snow day in the past week. The snow emergency was set to take effect at 6 a.m., a statement from City Hall read. President Barack Obama’s fiscal 2016 budget will seek new taxes on trillions of dollars in profits accumulated overseas by U.S. companies, and a new approach to taxing foreign profits in the future, but Republicans were skeptical of the plan on Sunday. Reviving a long-running debate about corporate tax avoidance, Obama will target a loophole that lets companies pay no tax on earnings held abroad, the White House said. But his proposal was certain to encounter stiff resistance from Republicans. In his budget plan, Obama will call for a one-time, 14 percent tax on an estimated $2.1 trillion in profits piled up abroad over the years by multinationals such as General Electric, Microsoft, Pfizer and Apple. David Beckham powerless against teenagers

David Beckham has spent most of his life being an incredibly famous athlete and underwear model, but he’s quickly transitioning into his next career — begrudgingly silent father to teens — and he’s not taking it well. His oldest kid, Brooklyn, is 15, and the next, Romeo, is on the cusp of teenhood. Then there are two more after that, all ready and willing to subvert any sense of identity dad might have once had. So, how are things going over at the Beckham estate? “To be honest, I’ve become a taxi driver overnight with the kids,” he tells Jimmy Kimmel. “I’m literally an Uber driver now.” Literally? Wow. JOBS

How to futureproof yourself (and your job) Planning. Don’t let technology hinder your career. With all of the technological and scientific advances out there, it can be hard for ordinary workers to keep up — with many worrying that they will be left behind. “I think people need to do a little critical assessment and ask: ‘What do I need to do to grow?’ says Scott Steinberg, CEO of the management consulting and market research firm TechSavvy Global. “Ask yourself, ‘Are there steps that I should be taking?’ We often get so caught up in the day-to-day that we forget to take a step back. Steinberg — whose new book “Make Change Work for You: 10 Ways to FutureProof Yourself, Fearlessly Innovate, and Succeed Despite Uncertainty is on shelves now — has these suggestions for workers looking to stay ahead of the curve.

Have a plan “You need to be purposeful and strategic, he notes. “[Whatever field you are in], things are going to look a lot different in ten years. So what do you need to do to get there? Steinberg uses people currently working in sales as a good example of a field that should always be looking forward. “Customers aren’t going to want the same thing over and over, he points out. “So you can either choose to do nothing now, or you can prepare.

Recognize what skills transfer “You can also ask, ‘Where can I go to pick up new skills?’ he notes. “If I am a copywriter by day, I can easily transition to a marketing role or a social media role. Networking and thinking outside of the box is key. “We always encourage people to be more courageous in their choices, says Steinberg.

Make conversation It’s easy to tell someone to “make great conversation or “ask great questions — but what does that mean? In your interview, make sure that the questions or conversations you bring up focus on career success on a high level. If you are interviewing with your potential manager, you should definitely be able to ask some very specific questions about how the role fits into the team dynamic.

that your interviewer is an actual person, and not just a barrier between you and the job. Think of yourself as a busi-

of making drastic changes to your career path. “Choosing to do nothing is a choice, Steinberg n notes. C Consider volu unteering or ttaking classes to t build your skills. s “There’s an a old saying: There’s T a lot of luck in hard work, Steinw berg be says.

ness partner — your job is to represent your brand and build relationships. Try taking the lead in conversations, and initiate small talk. Your interviewer will likely appreciate your genuine interest in how their day is going.

2

Change the flow of dialogue. Unless you’re specifically instructed to hold your questions for the designated time, asking questions during the interview is a great way to show your ability to converse and probe for information. Questions such as “Can you elaborate on that a little? and “Can you give me an example of that? allow you to describe how you would handle an everyday situation at the company once you get hired.

Asking questions throughout will make the conversation more relaxed. / ISTOCK Talentegg.com is a job board and online career resource for college students and recent graduates.

It seems that those that live in New York City were “underwhelmed” by the storm and can’t stop complaining. Those of us on Long Island had a different experience. When you live in Manhattan — specifically below 96th St. — everything gets cleared first and your snow is removed and not piled into a small mountain. I think the mayor’s response to the hourly updates provided by the news media was very adequate. The fault I find is with the unnecessary frequent interruptions by the meteorologists providing unclear and “possibly/probably” misinforma-

The giant snowdrifts around the city should be the raw material for public art. How about a carving of Mount Rushmore with the addition of former Bos-

Super Bowl XLIX

LaFell out in front Brandon LaFell was the first player to find the end zone in Super Bowl XLIX as he caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady off a slant with 9:47 remaining in the second quarter. One of the main prop bets heading into Sunday’s game was, “Which player will score first?” and the odds on LaFell were solid at 12/1. LaFell was the sixth most likely player in the game to score first. Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch had the highest odds, at 11/2. Lynch was the second player to score in the game, rumbling in with 2:16 left in the second quarter.

CHAMPS ONCE AGAIN Super Bowl XLIX. Patriots stun Seattle late in fourth quarter to win fourth Super Bowl crown.

Years from now, when Bill Belichick and Tom Brady are retired, the “yeah, but” talk won’t matter much. Yes, “Spygate” and “Deflate-gate” will be part of the dynamic duo’s legacy, but hardware trumps all conversation. Belichick and Brady now have more hardware than any other living coach – quarterback combination, and the New England Patriots have the bragging rights of being – by far – the most successful professional football franchise in the world this century as they captured their fourth Lombardi Trophy by edging the Seahawks, 28-24. It looked as though the Patriots were again going to be haunted in the Super Bowl by a miracle catch as Jermaine Kearse caught a 33-yard bouncing ball on his back to set up a first down for the Seahawks at the Patriots’ 5-yard line. A Marshawn Lynch fouryard run brought the ball to the Patriots’ 1 with the clock dwindling and New England looked for sure as though it was about to lose its third consecutive Super Bowl But the Seahawks called a stunning pass play instead of using Lynch again, and undrafted cornerback Malcolm Butler came up with the play

Tom Brady set a Super Bowl record in the first half against the Seahawks by completing 20 passes. Brady threw the ball 27 times total before halftime. By comparison, Seahawks QB Russell Wilson completed just 4-of-7 passes in the first two quarters.

NFL. New Deflate-gate information revealed

The NFL’s investigation into “deflate-gate” is not yet finished but new information was revealed prior to kickoff of Super Bowl XLIX. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, 11 of the 12 footballs used in the first half of the AFC title game were judged by the officials to be under the minimum of 12.5 PSI, but only one football was found to be two pounds under. This contradicts ESPN’s Chris Mortensen’s report from two weeks ago that said 11 of 12 Patriots footballs were found to be a full two pounds under the limit. METRO

of his life, picking off Russell Wilson and giving the Patriots an improbable Super Bowl win. The Patriots were down 24-14 heading into the final quarter and Brady had been struggling. But when Brady hit Julian Edelman for a 21-yard completion on a third-and-14 with just over 10 minutes reNFL

Manning decision coming soon Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning could decide “as early as this week” on whether or not he will return for an 18th season, according to ESPN. Manning met with new Denver head coach Gary Kubiak last Wednesday to discuss his future. According to the ESPN report, Manning will have a checkup on his surgically repaired neck “within 10 days of the start of the new league year, which begins March 10.” Manning struggled greatly in the Broncos’ 24-13 playoff loss to the Colts in the divisional round. maining, the Pats got to work. Brady found Danny Amendola in the back of the end zone to cut the Seattle lead to 24-21. The Patriots then forced a three-and-out before Brady orchestrated another fabulous drive as he continuously completed passes to Shane Vereen, Rob Gronkowski and Edelman. Edelman would score the Pats’

go-ahead touchdown, catching the ball in the corner of the end zone. Brady finished the game having gone 37-for-50 for 328 yards, four touchdowns and two picks. MATT BURKE @BurkeMetroBos

NFL. Jets and Bills to go hard after Pats’ CB Revis It’s likely that Darrelle Revis will be playing six of 16 games in the AFC East next season. But there now appears to be just as good a chance that Revis will be lining up against the Patriots in 2015 as there is of him remaining in New England. The Jets are expected to pursue Revis in free agency, sources told ESPN Sunday. New Bills head coach Rex Ryan will also look at ways to bring his former star corner to upstate New York. Though Revis had a phenomenal 2014 season for the Patriots, the team is unlikely to exercise a $20 million option on his contract. METRO

2015 Beanpot

Wait will be worth it for postponed Beanpot tourney The dirty little secret of the men’s Beanpot is that for the past 21 years, the four-team tournament has only revolved around two clubs: Boston University (29 Beanpot titles) and Boston College (19 Beanpot titles). The last time Harvard (10 Beanpot titles) won it was in 1993 while Northeastern’s (four Beanpot titles) most recent title was way back in 1988, before any of its current players were even alive. The good news for fans of competition is that this year the field is much more balanced than in any other in the past decade-plus. Tuesday’s slate (both games

were pushed back a day due to inclement weather) pits No. 2 BU vs. No. 4 Harvard (5 p.m., NESN) followed by No. 14 BC vs. Northeastern (8 p.m., NESN). The headliner of the tournament this year is undoubtedly Terriers star freshman center Jack Eichel (15 goals, 25 assists), who could be the No. 2 pick in the NHL Draft this summer if the Chelmsford native decides to leave Comm. Ave. early. In head coach Dave Quinn’s second year in charge, BU (16-4-4) has been ranked No. 1 for a good portion of the season. The Terriers come in on a four-game win streak, including a 9-5 demolition of UMass on Friday. Senior forward Evan Rodrigues has 34 points (nine goals, 25 assists) and Needham native Danny O’Regan leads

the Terriers with 17 goals. In their only other meeting in 2014-15, the Crimson (12-52) took down top-ranked BU 3-2 in overtime on Nov. 25 at Agganis Arena. Junior forward Kyle Criscuolo had the gamewinner in that memorable victory for Harvard, a team considered the biggest surprise in college hockey so far this season. Injuries have mounted and Harvard has lost four of its past six games, including a 5-4 defeat vs. Union on Friday, but that will all be forgotten if the Crimson can beat BU again. Junior forward Jimmy Vesey leads Harvard with 33 points (18 goals, 15 assists), including five power-play goals. After a rocky first half, BC (16-8-2) has recovered to win its last three games, including a 3-2 victory vs. Providence

College on Friday. It helps to have the winningest head coach in NCAA history (Jerry York) on their side. Sophomore goaltender Thatcher Demko (14-7-2, 2.08 goals against average, .928 save percentage) was the starter for the U.S. at the World Juniors Championship and he’s one of the best in college hockey. The Eagles tied Northeastern, 1-1, at Matthews Arena on Jan. 9 and won 4-2 the next night on their home ice. The Huskies (10-11-4) are clearly the underdogs of these four squads but they return much of the same team that made the final last year (losing 4-1 to BC). Also in their favor, Northeastern should be well-rested after being off last weekend following their sweep of Notre Dame the previous weekend. RICH SLATE
