If court artist Jane Flavell Collins had to portray the subject of her latest sketches, she’d describe accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev with one word. “I’d say bored,” Collins said. I really think [court] is very tiresome for him. As Collins’ pastels sketch Tsarnaev’s image, she tries to capture his detached demeanor. “He’s a young man,” Collins said, “and there is no way out, so he is resigned. He keeps tugging at his collar. I noticed that, too.” Over the course of her eclectic career, Collins has become a fixture in area courtrooms, pad and pastels in hand. “I could always get a good likeness for some reason,” Collins said.
Collins is currently a courtroom artist for TV 4, 7 and 25 in the Boston area and a three-time New England Emmy Award winner for her

The Duxbury resident studied art at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and earned a master’s degree in Florence, Italy. She decided to become a court sketch artist 25 years ago after Channel 5 gave her a shot. She vividly remembers her first day in court. Her large pad

and art supplies poked rows of court reporters as she entered, and she accidentally sat in the defendant’s chair. “I was very embarrassed,” Collins said. “I went to the back of the room and said to myself, ‘I can’t do this.’ But then I kept with it, and I learned a lot over the years. I really have enjoyed it very much.” Collins is currently drawing Tsarnaev, 21, in Boston’s Moakley Federal Courthouse. Opening statements in his trial have been pushed off until later this month as the parties have been unable to select a jury they consider impartial.
“I only go to the most interesting cases,” said Collins, who has covered high-profile trials including those of mobster Whitey Bulger and shoe bomber Richard Reid, the British man who, in 2001, attempted to set off explosives that he’d stuffed into his shoes while on an American Airlines flight from Paris to Miami. Collins recalled the moment Reid lashed out at the judge. ”I stopped drawing. It took my breath away. The shoe bomber got angry, and pretty soon he was sputtering and flailing his big, long arms,” Collins said. Bulger, on the other hand, kept a low profile, keen on scribbling away on a legal pad. “He hardly moved,” Collins said. “Every once in a while someone would throw a bad word at him and he’d respond,” she said. Tsarnaev is a new beast. The Chechen native is accused of detonating two homemade bombs at the Boylston Street finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon, killing three people
and injuring 264. An MIT police officer was killed in a shootout with Tsarnaev. As the trial gets underway, all eyes are on Boston, and without cameras in the courtroom, Collins must be the eyes of the world. Since jury selection began last month, Tsarnaev’s look has changed. “I noticed the beard right away,” she said. “And his hair has been cut. The last time I saw him everyone was mentioning his hair. It had been very, very curly and getting long and hanging over his face. So they tried to clean him up a little bit.” Collins says she dreads the day when live streams and camera phones make courtroom sketches obsolete. “Everybody is asking for them. It’s sort of like the court puts up with what I do,” Collins said. “Hopefully I’ll make it a little while longer.” MORGAN ROUSSEAU @MetroMorgan

More snow coming to bury Boston Weather. Another 10 to 24 inches will fall in the region before the end of Monday. A beleaguered Boston will be battered by another snowstorm. Public schools are closed in the city Monday and Tuesday and the T will run on a limited schedule. The storm, the third in recent weeks, is expected to dump from 10 to 24 inches on the region. Bill Simpson, a meteorologist in the service’s Taunton office, said Logan Airport might only get a foot of snow, while MetroWest may see 20 inches. “There will be quite a variability with the snow amounts,” he said. A winter storm warning will remain in effect until

1 a.m. Tuesday. It looks like it’s going to nastier later in the week, when forecasts are predicting a potentially historic cold snap to chill the region. The weather service warns of “potentially life-threatening record cold temperatures and wind chills are possible sometime late this week into next weekend.” Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said the city has never had to deal with this much snow in
such a short amount of time. “These storms that we’re getting are unprecedented,” he said. “We’ve never seen this type of snow any other time in the history of our city.” He is directing nonessential city personnel to stay home and has canceled all community meetings Monday night. A public parking ban in the city began at 4 p.m. Sunday as 350 trucks salted and plowed the city’s streets. The last week blanketed Boston with more than 40 inches, the snowiest seven days in the city’s recorded history. Walsh said the city had stepped up its enforcement of snow removal, and issued 1,500 violations for businesses and homeowners who failed to comply with the city’s snow removal rules. Healey. Opiate problem is a ‘public health crisis’ Maura Healey, the state’s new attorney general, said Massachusetts’ ongoing opiate problem is a public health crisis. Healey, a Democrat from Charlestown, made the comments on WCVB’s “On The Record,” which aired Sunday morning, outlining her plan to tackle the problem. Last spring, then-Gov. Deval Patrick declared opiate abuse in the state to be a public health emergency. Between November 2013 and February 2014, 185 people in the state died of heroin overdoses. Current Gov. Charlie Baker has said that reducing opiate addiction and abuse in the state will be one of his top priorities. Healey, who succeeded Martha Coakley as the state’s top prosecutor, said she wants to bolster the state’s prescription drug-monitoring program to get more accurate, real-time reporting of how drugs are being prescribed and dispensed. She wants to cut down on “doctorshopping” and eliminate

Consumer protection attorneys, she said, will examine how big pharmaceutical companies are marketing and dispensing the drugs. Healey also hopes to examine Medicaid fraud in order to cut down on negligent prescribing and dispensing practices, she said. “This is a public health crisis that I’m going to work really hard on,” Healey said.

Most Americans say they believe immigrants have strengthened the country through their hard work, and say immigration should be kept at present levels or increased, according to a Pew Research Center poll on the 50th anniversary of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965. The 1965 law, pushed through Congress by President Lyndon B. Johnson, replaced a system of quotas based on national origin, and ultimately changed the make-up of the United States. The law established a system that took into account skills, family in the U.S. and refugees, said Eva Millona, ex-
ecutive director for MIRA Coalition, the largest institution in New England that promotes immigrant integration. She says new changes are needed. “It helped make America a nation of opportunity,” she said. “The country became more reflective of the world.” At the time, according to Pew Research Center, 70 percent of those polled supported the legislation after it was passed, while only 1 percent of the public named immigration as the most important problem facing the nation. “I don’t think immigrants were seen as the bad guys,” said immigration attorney Howard Silverman. “We all came from immigrants. I think back then that was very clearly understood. I don’t think it was a political issue.” DANNY MCDONALD @DMacCash daniel.mcdonald@metro.us

Awards show. Go to bed early last night? We highlight the night’s top moments so you can fake like you tuned in.
Sunday night’s 57th Annual Grammy Awards was hyped up to be one of the most controversial ever, but despite a few standout moments, the night was pretty lackluster.
Hosting duties LL Cool J played host for the fourth time, opening with an enjoyable tease of “Going Back To Cali.” He last hosted the show in 2012, a few days after Whitney Houston’s death. Now, with Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown in critical condition, Cool J decided
not to comment on the tragedy, instead focusing on the night’s performers and nominees.
Performances With a whopping 23 performances, there were plenty of chances for something jaw-dropping to take place, but theatrics were kept at a minimum. In general, the performances skewed older with AC/DC opening the show; Lady Gaga taking the stage with Tony Bennett; and Madonna, who actually gave a phenomenal performance, proving she still has it at age 56. Some other performances worth YouTubing include Miranda Lambert, Kanye West and Rihanna, Hozier and Annie Lennox, and Pharrell. This was West’s first-ever time performing at the awards show, but he
more than made up for it by taking the stage twice.
Winners This year’s most controversial award, Best Rap Album, was announced before the show. Eminem won, beating out Iggy Azalea, Childish Gambino, Common, Schoolboy Q and Wiz Khalifa. With all the controversy surrounding Azalea’s nomination, everyone was definitely waiting for this one. Azalea also lost Best New Artist to Sam Smith, who also won for Best Pop Vocal Album, two predictable, yet deserved wins. Best Pop Solo performance went to Pharrell for “Happy” while Best R&B Performance went to Beyonce. Visit Metro.us for a complete winners’ list. EMILY LAURENCE @EmLaurence emily.laurence@metro.us

Sean Bean, Internet star Interview. The “Jupiter Ascending” star talks working with the Wachowskis and embracing his online infamy. Sean Bean has made a career in big budget genre fare, from James Bond to “The Lord of the Rings” to “Game of Thrones.” He goes to outer space with co-directors Andy and Lana Wachowski for “Jupiter Ascending,” in which Bean plays a human-bee hybrid helping with an unwitting earthling (Mila Kunis) embrace her true heritage as one of the most powerful beings in the universe. That career of his, by the way, has also inspired an entire subgenre of Internet memes, remixing his more famous lines for commentary on sports, politics, pop culture or anything, really. Not that he knows what a meme is, exactly.
That’s unusual for a film set in space. She liked it quieter, which I totally agree with. It’s interesting to think about. People don’t actually declaim everything. Every scene you’re in, if you’ve got one line, sometimes it’s important, but in the scheme of things it’s just a simple, natural reading. That was quite interesting, listening to them and improving it in terms of what we were doing.

Sean Bean plays an alien humanoid with bee DNA in “Jupiter Ascending.” / WARNER BROS. PICTURES Bonus questions
When you’re working with the Wachowskis, do you ever play one off the other, since you have two directors? You mean try and get one pissed off with the other one? Say you don’t necessarily like the direction one of them’s giving you… No, no. [Laughs] It was quite good, really, because if Andy was directing, Lana would take a back seat, and vice versa. It was actually kind of hard to distinguish because they were so kind of focused and singular in what they wanted to get. They have kind of different styles. I guess Andy was a bit more physically oriented than Lana. She was more cerebral and lowkey in the sense that she wanted a very kind of even reading, a very natural kind of rendition.

What’s in a meme?
SEAN BEAN GETTY IMAGES
How aware are you of the Internet memes built up around your various characters? Kind of, I think. Yes, I saw one that said, “One does not simply walk into Bramall Lane,” which I thought was quite good because my soccer team is Sheffield United. We played the Spurs the other night, and that was the thing: “One does not simply walk into Bramall Lane.” [Laughs] What is it like to actually be an Internet meme? Is that what it is, a meme? I’m a meme? It’s quite good, yeah. And it can be applied to lots of situations, that “One does not simply…” line. [Laughs] Yeah, it’s great. NED EHRBAR @Nedrick ned.ehrbar@metro.lu

DON’T BE A STUPID CUPID WHEN IT COMES TO LOVE ADVICE My friend asked if she should keep dating a guy. I told her no, and she dumped him. Now she thinks she made a mistake and blames me. But if I’d said nothing, I would’ve felt like a bad friend. Is advice ever really welcome?
There are three reasons people seek advice about breakups:

They’re confused and need help sorting through their feelings.

Questions like, “What would you like me to tell you? or “What did you imagine I’d say? are not calling your friend’s bluff, because she probably didn’t realize that she was fishing for a specific response.
Get the full picture Has she shared her ambivalent feelings with her significant other? Sometimes, people skip this important step, which can open the door to important conversations. But suppose she has, and still wants help. Try a question that requires her to
see past whatever brought on her current doubts and do some soul-searching: “How do you imagine you’ll feel after you break up with him? If you don’t break up, how do think you’d feel in a month from now, six months or a year? Biased
Consider who you go to for advice Many of us, both consciously and subconsciously, have some sense of what our friends will say and selectively choose those who will tell us what we want or need to hear. Instead of doing the decision-making for her, you could have helped her get a handle on her own thoughts and feelings about the relationship: “What is your gut telling you? What’s getting in the way of trusting your intuition?
While it’s great to keep health in mind when choosing a Valentine’s gift, a green juice isn’t quite the romantic gesture that sends hearts fluttering. But you can send the same message in a more conventional way with this quick and sexy recipe from New York-based organic juice maker LuliTonix. Like its ingredients, which stay raw in the bottle without any squeezing or heat pressing, it requires no baking and uses metabolismrevving add-ins like maca, the “Peruvian ginseng (to fire up the libido), and pumpkin seeds with circulation-boosting vitamin B3. Directions: Mix all ingredients together until you get a toothpaste-like consistency. Pour onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper (or you can use coconut oil to prevent sticking). Chill in the freezer for 15 minutes. Store in fridge/freezer.

Toys for boys isn’t exactly a real travesty Re: ‘Toys for girls, not just boys’ (Metro.us) Boko Haram kidnaps and murders schoolgirls in Nigeria. Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head by the Taliban for daring to advocate education. But Metro blogger Jenna Busch cries that she doesn’t have enough female action figures to play with. What a shocking gender bias outrage! Meanwhile as a girl geek myself who came
of age in the 1980s, I can say there’s never been a better time for female-oriented comic and movie merchandise. So relax, Jenna, and find a real crime to fight.

Too much money to the wrong things
Inept and unwanted How about Obama supplying some of his coalition, the Kurds, the Jordanians, etc., with arms and whatever else they need and provide some Special Forces imbedded as advisers?
There’s something wrong with this country when we spend $585 billion on the military and only $71 billion on education
They seem to have the will along with recognizing the threat that is ISIS. Our president is an intellectual ideologue who is at the same time remarkably inept. You ask what would I have Obama do? I would ask him to do the world a favor and step down. Perhaps he can better use his skills as president of Solyndra. Maybe he can recoup some of the millions of our lost tax dollars. For all the beans 2015 Beanpot. BU and Northeastern collide in title game as Huskies look to end drought.
To say that the Northeastern men’s hockey team is long overdue to win a Beanpot title is quite an understatement. The Huskies (12-11-4 overall) come into Monday’s (7:30 p.m., NESN) championship game at TD Garden with the burden of 1988 still hanging over their shoulders like an anvil. As most local college hockey fans know by heart now, that is the last time that NU took home one of its four total Beanpot crowns. Of course, the Huskies will have to battle through much more than that serious mental hurdle this time as Boston University (18-4-4) is the No. 2 team in the country and is a legitimate contender to make the 2015 Frozen Four (which will be at the Garden as well, two months from now). Through a quirk in the schedule, this will be the first time that these teams meet in the 2014-15 regular season, even though both compete in Hockey East. They close out the regular season with a home-and-home series against each other: Friday, Feb. 27 at Northeastern’s Matthews Arena and Saturday, Feb. 28 at BU’s Agganis Arena. It was a grind for both clubs just to get here as BU outlasted Harvard, 4-3, in double overtime last Tuesday and Northeastern upset BC, 3-2. A major difference between the two is that BU has been a top team all season while the Huskies started the season 0-8-1. Since then, they’re 12-3-3. So how exactly have the Huskies turned things around so dramatically this season? “It’s a true testament to leadership,â€? Huskies head coach Jim Madigan said. “To a man, in the locker room, our guys thought we were a good team. ‌ We’ve found ways to play smarter and win.â€? The Terriers come into the title game on a season-high six-game win streak following Friday’s 5-2 victory at UMass Lowell. It’s hard to believe for the program that has set the standard at the Beanpot with 29 titles, but that victory over Harvard last week was BU’s first win of any kind at the Beanpot since a first-round game in 2012. They had gone 0-2 in both 2013 and 2014,

Knicks owner Dolan rips fan in email battle Knicks owner James Dolan suggested that a critical fan of his team was an alcoholic in an email response and said that the fan might want to start rooting for the Brooklyn Nets, according to Deadspin.com.
“You are a sad person,â€? Dolan wrote. “I am just guessing but I’ll bet your life is a mess and you are a hateful mess. ‌ You most likely have made your family miserable. Alcoholic maybe. I just celebrated my 21-year anniversary of sobriety. You should try it. Maybe it will help you become a person that folks would like to have around. In the meanwhile start rooting for the Nets because the Knicks don’t want you.â€? The Knicks fan had written that he is “embarrassedâ€? by Dolan’s dealings with the Knicks. MATT BURKE
