Boston’s bunny population — which Metro last week dubbed the city’s cutest infestation — is continuing its takeover this week on the Seaport’s Lawn on D. This time, though, the critters are of the 20-foot-tall and inflatable variety.

A pack of glowing, airfilled rabbits is set to be erected on the Lawn Thursday as part of the space’s latest art installation.

The piece, one of three identical works called “Intrude” by Australian artist Amanda Parer, has been featured in venues around the world. They will debut Thursday night, their first-ever appearance in North America.

The bunnies, while huge, odd and humorous, are also a commentary on humans’ impact on their environment, Parer said. Bunnies are an invasive species in her native Australia, and since settlers brought them to the country they have had a negative impact on the habitat of native

animals like the country’s iconic koalas and kangaroos.

“They’re just everywhere,” Parer said.

Many of her works feature animals — largely bunnies, but also deer and pigs — standing in landscapes or wearing suits and ties.

Despite their size, the bunnies fold up into two pallets and travel easily, Parer said.

Three identical sets have journeyed around the globe, stopping in at the Vivid Light, Music & Ideas Festival in Sydney, the Ghent Light Festival in Belgium and at the surrealist Parisian home of Slava Polunin, the famous Russian clown.

Everywhere she goes, Parer said, interactivity is a major component of “Intrude.”

Observers at the installations are invited to walk around and touch the inflatables, pose next to them or relax nearby.

The eye-catching display has made a big splash worldwide, Parer said. During an exhibition in Sydney, she said, she found a group performing a Japanese tea ceremony between one rabbit’s giant white paws.

“They said it was a very peaceful place to be,” she said.

If running a 5K footrace in the heat through Boston streets sounds challenging enough, imagine doing it on an empty stomach.

That’s what a group of Muslim volunteers will be doing this weekend during their third annual Fasting 5K, a Cambridge-to-Roxbury trot right in the middle of the holy month of Ramadan.

Proceeds combat childhood poverty.

During Ramadan, which runs June 17-July 17 this year, Muslims forego food and liquids from dawn to dusk. While the observance makes the run a difficult task, it also aligns with the teachings of Islam, said Zahid Siddiqui, race co-founder.

“Ramadan is all about sacrificing, treating others like you would like to be treated and being good to your neighbor,” Siddiqui said.

“During this time I think most Muslims always try to up their game.”

The race takes place in six locations worldwide: Detroit, Austin, Texas, and Washington, D.C., as well as Doha, Qatar, and Huntington Beach in Southern California. About 200 runners are expected to take part this year.

Races are timed to end near sundown so runners can drink Gatorade and eat granola bars — their first bits of sustenance since about 3:30 a.m., Siddiqui said.

Mass. Guardsman gets Soldier’s Medal honors Heroism. National Guardsman Sta Sergeant Mark Welch ran toward danger during the Boston Marathon attack.

When bombs tore through Boylston Street on April 15, 2013, the city of Boston showed the world the meaning of compassion and bravery as strangers rushed to the aid of those wounded in the blasts.

On Wednesday, a hometown hero was one of three servicemen awarded the Soldier’s Medal, a high honor of bravery and heroism for armed forces service members who are not on the battlefield at the time of their decision to risk life and limb and help those in need.

As crowds ran away from the blasts, Welch ran into bleachers near the first explosion, first helping direct the panicking, fleeing crowds, then pulling away the barricade fences and scaffolding

Having served two tours of duty in Iraq, Welch was no stranger to chaos and carnage, but not at home. “It definitely is different, because it’s your own people,� Welch said in an interview with the U.S. Army blog in 2014. “You expect stuff like that to happen in war.

You have to live that day to day, knowing that something might happen, in order to do your job over there. Here, you don’t expect that.�

His fellow servicemen, First Lt. Steve Fiola and First Sgt. Bernard Madore, were awarded the medals in April for their roles in aiding at the marathon.

Germany and the U.S. a month after they sought to put a row over spying behind them, with U.S. President Barack Obama declaring in Bavaria that the two nations were “inseparable allies.”

WikiLeaks published what it said were three NSA intercepts of Merkel’s conversations and data it said listed telephone numbers for the chancellor, her aides, her office and even her fax machine.

“The names associated with some of the targets indicate that spying on the chancellery predates Angela Merkel as it includes staff of former Chancellor Gerhard Schroder (in office 1998-2002) and his predecessor, Helmut Kohl,” WikiLeaks added in a statement.

The U.S. National Security Agency tapped phone calls involving German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her closest advisers for years and spied on the staff of her predecessors, WikiLeaks said.

A report released by the group suggested NSA spying on Merkel and her staff had gone on far longer and more widely than previously realized.

Baltimore fires police commissioner

Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has fired Police Commissioner Anthony Batts, the mayor’s office said on Wednesday.

Bill would make social media report ‘terrorist activity’

Social media operators such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube would have to notify federal authorities of online “terrorist activity,” according to a bill approved by the Senate Intelligence Committee.

The types of communication include postings related to “explosives, destructive devices and weapons of mass destruction,” according to the text.

Republican Donald Trump said he would win the Latino vote if he gets his party’s nomination for president and claimed a “great relationship with the Mexican people,” despite recent comments about immigrants that have cost him business.

I will win it,” Trump said in an excerpt of an interview with NBC News released on Wednesday. He said he would be better able to create jobs as president than Jeb Bush or Hillary Clinton.

“I will create jobs, and the Latinos will have jobs that they don’t have right now, and I will win that vote,” Trump said.

A bronze bust of beleaguered comedian Bill Cosby was removed from the Walt Disney World theme park in Florida, a Disney spokeswoman said.

A technical glitch forced the New York Stock Exchange to suspend trading for more than three hours on Wednesday in the biggest outage to strike a U.S. financial market in nearly two years, unnerving investors already rattled by the meltdown in Chinese stocks and the Greek debt crisis.

The exchange, a unit of In-

tercontinental Exchange Inc. (ICE.N), said the halt, which occurred shortly after 11:30 a.m. EDT and lasted until 3:10 p.m., was not the result of a cyberattack. Other exchanges were trading normally.

“It’s not a good day, and I don’t feel good for our customers who are having to deal with the fallout,” NYSE President Thomas Farley told CNBC during the halt.

Traders awaited the reopening anxiously because much of the business on the NYSE happens when portfolio managers put in orders designed to occur at the exact market close to ensure end-ofday pricing.

counts for more than 60 percent of S&P 500 volume at the close of the market, according to Credit Suisse analyst Ana Avramovic. Most of this is at the “market on close,” when those orders are processed for funds and institutions.

“If you don’t have all the orders on that marketplace on the close, the pricing on the close would be definitely not accurate,” said Empire Executions Inc. President Peter Costa, who trades on the NYSE floor.

The U.S. market was down more than 1 percent on Wednesday, as investors continue to focus on turmoil in China and Greece.

Fossil hunter. Who is Wendy and why is this dinosaur named after her?

It’s not every day a dinosaur gets named after you, so Canadian fossil hunter Wendy Sloboda celebrated in a unique way.

“I got a new tattoo of my dinosaur recently to show it off. It is pretty exciting for me,” said Sloboda, who first spotted the fossils of the dinosaur now named Wendiceratops in southern Alberta’s remote badlands.

Scientists on Wednesday announced the discovery of Wendiceratops, a 20-foot-long, two-ton beast with a prominent, upright horn atop its nose and a series of short, forwardcurling hooks adorning a bony, shield-like frill at the back of its head.

They said Wendiceratops, which lived 79 million years ago during the Cretaceous Period, provides insight into the early evolution of horned dinosaurs, a prominent group of four-legged herbivores including the well-known Tric-

lush, warm coastal plain near the inland sea that bisected North America at the time, cropping plants with its parrotlike beak.

Sloboda in 2010 spotted fossils including parts of the frill sticking out of a mud rock layer at the bottom of a hill north of Montana’s border. Fossils of three adults and one juvenile Wendiceratops have been identified.

“Wendy is one of the most talented dinosaur hunters in the world. She has a sixth sense for finding important fossils,” Evans said.

Sloboda has scoured far-flung locales including Argentina, Mongolia, France and Greenland, and made her first important fossil finds when she was still just a teenager. She’ll be reminded of Wendiceratops, meaning “Wendy’s horned face,” every time she looks at that tattoo on her forearm.

In the new sci-fi thriller “Self/ less,” Ben Kingsley plays a dying wealth monster who literally changes into Ryan Reynolds, thanks to a revolutionary, possibly sketchy procedure that transfers one’s consciousness into new bodies.

But it wasn’t anxiety over his own mortality that drew Reynolds to the project.

“It was the idea of hubris and arrogance and the class system, and all these things that propel a person to say, ‘Oh, I cocked up the first life. Let me just buy another

one.’ It’s just so vile to think like that,” Reynolds tells us.

“I like seeing characters fall from grace, and I like seeing characters accept or deal with consequences.”

Reynolds dishes on friends with money and how glad he is his latest won’t get a sequel.

You play a character who doesn’t know what to do with his riches.

I know a couple of people who are at that level of obscene wealth. There’s something perverse about their lives, especially when they’re young. There’s this quest for thrills that is ever growing. I know one guy who just does some of the most insane s— you can imagine. Maybe it’s because he’s experienced so much already.

Not at all! I know wealthy people who are truly wonderful. And people like Bill Gates — those guys are going to die and leave 20, 30 billion dollars to charity. That’s spectacular.

“Self/less” seems rare, not only in that it’s a character-driven, ideas-

driven sci-fi movie, but also that it’s a one-off, not a franchise movie. I can’t imagine there being a “Self/less 2.”

Oh God, no! But that’s great, isn’t it? It’s refreshing that there are some films like that still. It’s scary, because everything’s a franchise now. It does kill off the one-off movies. It’s getting harder and harder to finance those movies. I’m worried for the future, in the sense that one day, 12 months a year, it’s just going to be franchise films. Even at awards season, it will be franchise movies that will collect all the gold. It’s a rare breed these days to have a one-off.

“Minions” is part of a new, odd, mostly welcome trend: loopy spinoffs of franchises that are already plenty loopy.

Not as strange or funny as “Penguins of Madagascar,” the “Despicable Me” offshoot mostly offers that film’s vast army of baby babbling yellow whatzits. That’s fine. If all it was was 90 minutes of Minions reading the phone book, all would be well, especially since they’d do it in a made-up language that’s far cooler than Jodie Foster’s in “Nell” though not nearly as cool as Milla Jovovich’s in “The Fifth Element.”

“Minions” does slightly more than that, although with the stress “slightly.” The plot functions as a prequel as well as a simple misadven-

ture. It shows three randomly chosen Minions — all voiced by co-director Pierre Coffin, who truly deserves a special Oscar — hobnobbing with a less trustworthy supervillain: a tricked-out lady baddie named Scarlett Overkill (a game Sandra Bullock). The action takes place in England (for some reason) in the ’60s (for some reason), and at one point there’s an attempt to steal the crown, which then segues into a brief remake of “King Ralph,” only starring Minions — again, for some reason.

What follows is zany but never particularly inspired.

What it does have — and this can’t be emphasized enough — is Minions. Usually there are only three of them, but that’ll do, as it periodically checks in on the rest of them, babbling and bumbling as they circumnavigate the globe. They could be doing

••••• In her last years, Amy Winehouse was mostly visible as a troubled, makeup-smeared slave to drugs and drink, splattered all over tabloids and articles that blabbed, often with jokes, about how far she’d fallen. But once this era arrives in the intimate Winehouse doc “Amy,” director Asif Kapadia doesn’t fill the screen with such overplayed images. When the musician disappears down a drug hole, we’re made to feel her loss on a gut level, particularly given how the film’s first half prominently boasted the young, pre-fame, absolutely chooglin’ Winehouse.

“Amy” arrives on the heels of a film that is superficially the same, namely Brett Morgen’s “Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck.” Both

have the same general aims: to rescue a doomed musical legend from the public view of them and to portray fame as something, at least in their cases, antithetical to artistic creation. The two films share something else in common: They are almost entirely made with footage that isn’t people sitting in front of cameras, vomiting up exposition and opinions.

It can be disarming, given her turbulent public image in her final days, to see the young, unfailingly personable Winehouse, with truly British teeth, bop about, charming people left and right. Kapadia is careful and gentle when it comes to how to portray the unraveling Winehouse. The images become more abrasive; there are untold shots of paparazzi hounding her, their flashbulbs flashing like machine gun fire. “Amy” is best used as a gutting portrayal of a life force that would have been better off not being the kind of person who earns a film like “Amy.”MP

May the deserved sequel step up its game, though if it doesn’t that will be OK, too.

In “Self/less” Ben Kingsley’s Damian, wealthy and dying, becomes Ryan Reynolds after a miraculous, shady company (run by a creepy Brit, played by Matthew Goode) offers a radical procedure that transfers consciousness from one body to another. But there’s a catch, because there’s always a catch, because science, in the movies, can never just be awesome.

The premise cribs from the John Frankenheimer classic “Seconds” and the nonclassic “Freejack.” But theft isn’t the problem. It’s when the script

tries to do something more than mix and match influences that it reveals the true paucity of ideas. Reynolds’ Damian soon learns the company is engaged in some rote jiggerypokery. He also learns that he has some Jason Bourne moves, because those movies are popular too.

One can tease heady ideas out of “Self/less” — about our fear of mortality, about self-preservation turning to solipsism, even about wealth running roughshod over those without it. They’re notions best discussed after, or thought about during, given how slowly and wearily it’s heading toward its so-so climax. There’s so much talent and narrative and thematic possibility in its favor that it often feels like it went out of its way to be forgettable.

No future movie will be ripping it off. MP

Jake Miller is known as the sensitive rapper. This is, after all, a guy whose first song that garnered major radio play (“A Million Lives”) is constructed of lyrics lifted straight from his fan mail and is about how his music comforted a fan with cancer and helped another deal with her brother’s death.

But the 22-year-old, whose new EP “Rumors” came out yesterday, has recently switched gears, putting out a new single, “Dazed and Confused,” that’s essentially just a fun summer party song. “I’ve always been about putting out music with a message behind it, but I also want to make people dance,” Miller tells us. “I just wanted to have a really fun song to put out for the summer.”

Miller says his best friends are people he works with, like his drummer, tour manager, DJ and videographers. “I feel like I’ve known them longer than my childhood friends because we travel every single day together [on tour],” he says.

One childhood friend that he is still close with is Edgar Esteves, who directed his “Dazed and Confused” music video.

“We came up with [the video concept] together and just wanted to do a fun, abstract, weird video,” Miller says. “We had dancing fruits.

We had my head floating in a refrigerator.” The video also features fellow teen heartthrob Austin Mahone, as well as rapper Travie McCoy, who has a verse in the song.

A hometown debut years in the making Though she’s performed standup here for years, Jennifer Coolidge is making her stage debut at the Central Square Theater.

To a certain audience, Jennifer Coolidge will always be Stifler’s Mom from “American Pie.” But the actress has been a steady comedy presence for years now, performing standup and popping up in movies such as “Best in Show” and the “Legally Blonde” series. Now she heads to Cambridge for a production of “Saving Kitty” at the Central Square Theater.

The play tells the story of a pair of diehard liberals adjusting to their daughter bringing home a Republican boyfriend.

We caught up with the Massachusetts native to talk about the show and her famous role.

What made you decide to do this show?

I really liked the part. It’s not like anything I get to do ever. I get to play someone who’s a really strong person. She’s smart and complicated and kind of messed up, and all these things women kill to play. There aren’t enough of these roles.

The play is set in New York, but the premise feels very Cambridge.

I know. What’s funny is that my character is one of those people who don’t have any self-awareness at all, who are very righteous about their point of view. You know, you’re a liberal, and you’re very judgmental and don’t know it.

With all your comedy experience, are you gaining insight into what works in comedy?

You don’t really know what’s going to land well. Sometimes when you’re making a movie, you’re like, oh my god, this is going to be a blockbuster, this is going to be the best movie ever made, and then it isn’t.

It’s really hard to gauge what’s going to be well received.

On her big breakthrough role Is there any movie that comes to mind as one you didn’t think would do well?

Well, I do remember when we were making “American Pie” thinking about how much fun we were all having. And thinking, wouldn’t it be cool if the added dessert on top was that it would make some money, but I didn’t think it was going to be what it was. I got paid like, $1,400, $2,000 for that first role, and that’s before taxes, so my take home was probably $700 after everyone had been commissioned. It was just this little job. It turned into this huge thing. You just don’t know.

So, you basically paid one month’s rent from that movie.

Yeah, exactly. I think that’s what my rent was. That’s what it was back in Hollywood, $700, and I paid it that month.

Boston gets brewing A new distillery in Dorchester adds to the city’s homegrown spirits.

After three years in the making, Boston Harbor Distillery has opened its doors. Located in a 19th century building on the water in Dorchester, the operation will serve as both a production facility for their line of spirits, as well as a mercantile shop, tasting room, and public gathering space for events.

New work from old pros Founded by Rhonda Kallman, a co-founder of the Boston Beer Company, and Corey Bunnewith, a mainstay of the Boston craft cocktail move-

ment in recent years, and helmed by veteran distiller John Couchot, they’ve currently got four spirits bottled, with an eye toward rolling out a handful more over the next few months. The flagship spirit is Putnam New England Whiskey, Bunnewith explains, a combination of malted barley and chocolate roasted malt aged in new American oak barrels. Available both at 86 proof and in a barrel cask strength, it finishes with light notes of milk chocolate.

“I think the integration of the chocolate malt is what really set it apart,” he says.

“We use the phrase ‘refined grittiness’ a lot. It’s robust, not necessarily nuanced with time, but it lets you know when you’re drinking it, and there’s a beautiful dryness from the chocolate malt. …

I’d almost compare it more to a Highland or Speyside single malt. There’s no smoke, but it definitely has the char and the spice of the barrel.”

typical bracing heat, even at 120 proof (although it will come down). Other forthcoming experiments will be limited-edition whiskeys distilled using Sam Adams beers.

Probably the most locally focused of their line comes in the form of the Lawley’s New England Spirit, in both an aged and unaged style. It’s distilled from molasses, which means it sips like a rum, but since maple syrup is also involved, it can’t legally be called that.

“We wanted to use local terroir with the maple syrup and molasses,” Bunnewith says.

was unique and distinctive to New England.” The maple shows up in the white spirit, alongside vanilla bean, but in the aged version it’s a lot more prevalent, albeit with the oak rounding off the edges. “But at 90 proof, there’s still a lot of shoulder to it,” he says.

Blue Lagoon These hot springs in a lava field are one of the island’s most popular attractions. The Blue Lagoon is only a 20-minute drive from the airport, and many people combine a visit here with their airport transfer.

The airline now operates flights out of 15 airports in the U.S. and Canada, from Anchorage to Washington, D.C. Many passengers are dipping their toes into Iceland, metaphorically speaking, to see what the island has to offer for a one-night stay — or even just a few hours, if timetables allow it. So what can you do in a day?

Keflavik International Airport is an easy 45-minute drive from Reykjavik, with shuttle buses meeting flights and with taxis and rental cars also available. Reykjavik is smaller than most European capitals, with a population of only about 120,000, but it has plenty to offer. There are several museums, including the National Museum of Iceland, the Reykjavik Art Museum, the Vikin Maritime Museum and the Reykjavik Open Air Museum.

The city’s distinctive architecture includes the Hallgrimskirkja, which is the largest church in Iceland, completed in 1986 after 38 years of work. Its remarkable design is said to resemble an Icelandic lava flow.

The equally remarkable modern architecture of the Harpa Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre is also worth seeing, in its setting by the waterfront.

Reykjavik is a compact city that is easy to walk around and has a good

variety of hotels, bars, shops and restaurants. Some of these serve a traditional Blue Icelandic menu, Lagoon which might include smoked puffin, marinated minke whale and smoked shag. Needless to say, the seafood is excellent — but Icelanders also have a liking for hot dogs! The most popular eating place on the island is the hot dog stand Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur, which has been near Reykjavik Harbor since 1937.

Be sure to join a tour of some kind that takes you out into the unique Icelandic landscape. It isn’t surprising that the country was chosen as a filming location for “Game of Thrones,” as the country definitely has an otherworldly feel to it. Nothing prepares you for Iceland.

‘Team investing’ may soon take fantasy world by storm Fantasy sports.

A new app allows you to invest in your favorite sports teams.

How is it legal?

Former NHL All-Star Bernie Nicholls explains why AllSportsMarket is legal: •

Many sports fans dream of being able to have a stake in their favorite team. There’s now an app that can help fans realize that dream.

AllSportsMarket is an app that enables you to invest in any team in the four major North American sports (baseball, football, basketball and hockey).

It’s remarkably similar to investing in the stock market at the NYSE, and is an intriguing alternative to gambling on individual games and the various daily fantasy sports sites that have popped up recently.

Former NHL All-Star Bernie Nicholls has been supporting the concept of AllSportsMarket for a while now, but the idea has only recently been introduced in the mobile market.

“I was introduced to the idea by my cousin [Jason Henry] and we launched on the Internet about 10 years ago,” Nicholls told Metro. “In July of 2014 we launched it on the app store. Now it’s on every device.”

Jumping on a team’s bandwagon is also an option.

“You could look at a team’s schedule and say, ‘I think this team is going to win its next

10 games’ and invest in it,” said Nicholls. “It’s a good alternative to gambling [on each game], because if your team loses, it’s OK — you don’t lose everything.”

The prices of teams fluctuate based on how they are bought and sold on the market, and investors can make

money by winning “dividends” when their team beats another team. AllSportsMarket will offer a chance to make real money soon, but at the moment it is still in a “trial stage.”

“We’re hoping to offer a real money market [this month],” said Nicholls. “But for now we’re taking it slow

so that people will understand it first. We’re getting a lot of great feedback.

“You can invest in gold and silver, but you can’t watch it perform,” Nicholls said.

LEE TRADE A GOOD ONE FOR C’S David Lee is now a Boston Celtic. And to be quite honest, I’m not sure what’s so difficult to understand about that.

Since it was first reported earlier this week that Lee would be traded to the Celtics for Gerald Wallace, I was shocked to find some scratching their heads over the move.

Truth be told, Lee-to-Boston makes perfect sense, for multiple reasons.

First and foremost, you’re ridding yourself of Gerald Wallace and the $10.1 million salary he’s owed next season. Paying Wallace that much money to be a glorified water boy for one more year would be a terrible business strategy. And when I call him a “water boy,” that may even be generous.

If you’re going to pay someone eight figures next year, you might as well pay someone who’s going to actually play. And not only does Lee play, he’ll be starting in the C’s frontcourt.

Lee isn’t cheap, though.

He’ll be making $15.5 million next season. And like Wallace, he’s in the final year of his contract.

To that, you might say,

“What’s the point?” Your argument might be that Lee’s presence — along with newly signed power forward Amir Johnson — will take away crucial minutes for youngsters like Jared Sullinger and Kelly Olynyk, to name a few.

Don’t get me wrong, that argument makes some sense.

But only if you don’t understand Danny Ainge’s plan.

It was recently reported that the Celtics are looking to dish out not one but two max contracts next summer.

To that, I say, No kidding. But it’s easier said than done.

You need to convince those max contract-worthy players to sign in Boston.

And since Ainge can’t control Mother Nature, he’s trying to build a team that gives a superstar player a reason to commit to the Celtics. Lee’s presence isn’t quite “championship” caliber, but it will certainly be an improvement.

The numbers don’t lie.

When Lee plays anywhere from 33 to 37 minutes a night, he averages around

20 points and 10 rebounds per game. Last year he lost his starting job to injury late in the season, but still never became a distraction for the NBA Champion Golden State Warriors.

With the Celtics, Lee should see his minutes increase, likely getting him back to the production everyone’s used to seeing from him.

Again, Lee won’t be delivering a Larry O’Brien Trophy to Boston next June. But his presence will help the C’s improve on their 40-42 record, help them to a higher playoff seed in the East, and help the younger players around him progress. In the process, perhaps a more successful team will also help increase the trade value of those younger players.

Whatever the result, it’s pretty clear what Ainge is trying to do. He’s trying to create an environment that will lure superstar free agents to Boston. Lee can’t hurt that strategy. He can only help.

night on July 1. But the best of the best weren’t interested in Boston, and most of the others were asking for too much money.

So Ainge signed versatile forward Amir Johnson from the Raptors to a two-year deal that reportedly includes a nonguaranteed second year. He then re-signed Jonas Jerebko to a two-year deal and Jae

Crowder to a five-year deal.

Tuesday, Ainge traded for forward David Lee from the Golden State Warriors. Lee is the biggest acquisition the Celtics have had since Isaiah Thomas came to Boston, but he’s not the type of player who will instantly propel the C’s into title contenders.

But by standing pat at the draft and not overspending on B-level free agents this year, the Celtics are still able to make a splash going forward, whether it be using their remaining assets to swing another trade during the season or going after free agents next offseason when the NBA salary cap expands.

Already, we’re hearing whispers that two starters — Sacramento’s DeMarcus Cousins and Phoenix’s Eric Bledsoe — may become available. The hope is that the C’s can still pull something like this off, and if not,

wait for yet another free agency period that will provide its own set of stars, headlined by Kevin Durant (no, the C’s don’t have a chance at him … sorry).

The Celtics spent the most money on Crowder during free agency, $35 million over five years. Crowder was an afterthought in the trade that sent Rajon Rondo to Dallas, but once he got an opportunity to play, he quickly became a fan favorite in Boston due to his energy and hustle. Crowder needs to improve his outside shot, and if he can do that, he will prove to be a steal in a league that sees players at his position making double the money per season.

Like Crowder, expect Johnson to become a fan favorite in Boston.
