HOUSE PUTS OFF VOTE ON HEALTH CARE PLAN
1
President Donald Trump failed on Thursday to convince enough skeptical members of his own Republican Party to begin dismantling Obamacare, forcing the House of Representatives to delay a vote on the health care legislation. The day was designed to be a big symbolic win for conservatives, with Trump and House Republican leaders planning the vote on the seventh anniversary of former Democratic President
Barack Obama signing his namesake healthc are law, formally known as the Affordable Care Act, which became a favored target of Republicans. Instead, the vote was postponed indefinitely, dealing a setback to Trump in what he hoped would be his first legislative victory. REUTERS
SENATE REPEALS BROAD- GENERAL: RUSSIA MAY BE BAND PRIVACY RULES HELPING SUPPLY TALIBAN

The U.S. Senate voted narrowly to repeal regulations requiring internet service providers to do more to protect customers’ privacy than websites like Alphabet Inc.’s Google or Facebook Inc. The vote was along party lines, with 50 Republicans approving the measure and 48 Democrats rejecting it. The two remaining Republicans in the Senate were absent and did not cast a vote.
According to the rules approved by the Federal Communications Commission in October under then-President Barack Obama, internet providers would need to obtain consumer consent before using precise geolocation, financial information, health information, children’s information and web browsing history for advertising and internal marketing. NUNES APOLOGIZES OVER SURVEILLANCE CLAIM
4
The Republican head of the U.S. House of Representatives Intelligence Committee apologized for the way he handled sensitive allegations about U.S. spy agency surveillance of President Donald Trump’s team. Representative Devin Nunes was criticized by colleagues on Wednesday for calling a news conference to announce that the communications of members of the team that ran Trump’s transition
to the presidency were swept up in incidental surveillance targeting foreigners. Democrats were upset that Nunes made the comments to the media and then briefed Trump in the White House without informing them. They questioned whether the intelligence panel could run a credible investigation. A Republican intelligence committee aide said on Thursday that Nunes had apologized to Democrats on the panel. Harlem apartment complex leaves thousands without gas service since November Repairs are progressing at a “turtle’s pace,” residents say. AMANDA MIKELBERG @MetroNewYork
amanda.mikelberg@metro.us
Residents at a mammoth West Harlem apartment complex have suffered through a Dickensian winter. Tenants in about 1,200 apartments at 3333 Broadway weren’t able to boil water on their stoves, let alone bake a Christmas ham. Some living at Riverside Park Community even went without heat and hot water intermittently during the four months their gas has been, and still is, off. The shut-down followed a resident’s Nov. 28 complaint about an odor of gas emanating from a utility room. That led to the discovery of a gas leak. To avert catastrophe, every gas line in the five-tower complex had to be closed as the complex goes through a complicated process of repair and inspection. Residents from buildings A through E are fuming as the company that owns the building, Urban American, has provided scant information about the issue and relatively nothing about

when to expect service to be restored. “It’s one nightmare after another,” one tenant told Metro. “It’s clear it’s moving at a turtle’s pace.” People from the management company defended the massive challenge. “Not even God made it happen in one day,”

assistant building manager Hansel Olivares told Metro. “We’re going as fast as we can.” Cooking for five people on a portable electric stove has been a tough task for Mery Mendoza, who’s lived at Riverside Park for 26 years. Her electric bill skyrocketed to $250 a month — owing to the
electric cooker. Lesley Cordero, 22, moved into her studio in January, not knowing that she wouldn’t be able to cook. And the $90 discount offered on her $1,795 rent has barely covered her diningout expenses, she said. Even the clothes dryers were cold until about a month ago.
Restoring the gas is a lengthy, complex process, a representative for the city’s Department of Buildings explained. The building owners must hire a licensed master plumber to do initial inspections, file permits and make repairs. Zone by zone, as repairs are made, the plumber requests the

DOB to do an inspection to authorize service restoration. Finally, the utility company, in this case Con Edison, will do final “integrity tests” before turning the gas back on. “Access to the apartments has made pressure testing difficult,” Con Edison rep Sydney Alvarez said. “The plumbers expect repairs to take weeks. They have to have access to every single apartment, and that can be timeconsuming.” As of March 23, service to 334 apartments had been restored. Another 856 still do not have gas. The DOB indicated that they have granted the authorization each time they’ve come out for inspection, the last time occurring on March 9. It could take a few more months for gas to be fully operational systemwide, Olivares said. Additional calls to the legal department at Urban American went unanswered by press time. “If there is a good note in this, it’s that someone took the initiative to call about the gas leak,” adding that people must speak up — call 911 — if they smell the signature rotten egg smell of the chemical added to gas for safety.

Jewish teen in Israel arrested in connection with global JCC threats Police search the Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada after an employee received a suspicious phone call that led about 10 people to evacuate the building on Feb. 27. GETTY IMAGES
The teen’s attorney says her client has a brain tumor, which “may affect his behavior. A teenager with dual Israeli-U.S. citizenship was arrested in Israel on Thursday on suspicion of making dozens of hoax bomb threats against Jewish community centers in the United States, Australia and New Zealand. The suspect, whose identity remains sealed pursuant to a court order, is 18 years old and Jewish, a police spokesman said. The teenager’s alleged motives were not immediately clear. At a court hearing near Tel Aviv, the teen’s defense attorney, Galit Bash, said the young man has a growth in his head that causes behavioral problems. She later told Reuters he has a brain tumor, which “may affect his behavior, his ability to understand right and wrong,” and said the teen’s father had also been held in connection with the case. U.S. authorities have been investigating a surge of threats against Jewish organizations, including more than 100 bomb threats in separate waves over the past three months targeting Jewish community centers (JCCs) in dozens of states. The threats prompted criticism of President Donald Trump for what some Jewish groups saw as an inadequate response from his administration. He condemned the incidents in a major speech to Congress in February.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Thursday said the arrest reflected the government’s determination to prosecute those who perpetrate hate crimes. Israeli police said the teenager is believed to be responsible for most of the threats, though the precise number was not immediately clear. The suspect, who is accused of targeting centers in Australia and New Zealand as well as the United States, began making the calls in January using advanced masking technologies to hide his identity, police said. Authorities also said he was responsible for a previous bomb threat against a Delta Airlines flight in January 2015 at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, which took part in the probe, confirmed the arrest but declined to offer further details. The threats forced the evacuation of many JCCs, including some with daycare and school facilities for infants and young children. Coupled with other incidents such as the desecration of Jewish cemeteries, they have stoked fears of a resurgence in anti-Semitism in the United States. The NYPD told Metro that it did not have any information on whether the teen was behind any of the threats made against JCCs in New York. Metro web reporter Nikki Mascali contributed to this report. Obamacare supporters rally against congressional repeal efforts Many talked about a very personal stake in the outcome of the health care debate roiling Capitol Hill. Supporters of Obamacare staged rallies across the country on Thursday denouncing efforts by President Donald Trump and Republican congressional leaders to repeal the landmark law that has extended medical insurance coverage to some 20 million Americans. Hundreds of demonstrators turned out in Washington, Chicago and Los Angeles marking the seventh anniversary of enactment of Obamacare, as the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has become widely known. “I feel sick today, but I came here because I’m terrified,” said Steve Martin, 27, an unemployed Los Angeles resident who was diagnosed with cancer a year ago. “The legislators have the best health care in the world, and we deserve the same.” The ACA, considered former Democratic President Barack Obama’s premiere domestic achievement, has drawn unrelenting scorn from Republicans, with promises to repeal and replace a centerpiece of Trump’s presidential campaign. Thursday’s rallies coincided with planned action in the House of Representatives on a Republican-backed bill to begin dismantling Obamacare, but the vote was indefinitely postponed as Republican leaders and the White House scrambled to muster enough votes for passage. Many moderate Republicans as well as Democrats have raised concerns that repeal-
and-replace would leave too many Americans without health coverage. Supporters of the bill say it would lower premiums, but critics counter that those savings would in many cases be more than offset by higher co-pays and other out-of-pocket costs. Obamacare backers also worry about the fate of millions who gained insurance under the bill’s major expansion of Medicaid, the federalstate program providing coverage for the needy, the elderly and the disabled. In the nation’s capital, several hundred chanting protesters gathered at Freedom Plaza, a few blocks from the White House, carrying signs with slogans such as “We Fight Back” and “Keep America Healthy.” Robinette Barmer, 61, a former seamstress and caterer from Baltimore now on a disability pension, said that without Obamacare she could not afford the various medications she takes for ailments such as asthma and high blood pressure. After the rally, protesters marched a block to the Trump International Hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue, where several dozen sprawled on the sidewalk in a “die-in” symbolizing the effect of rolling back Obamacare. Protest organizers said smaller gatherings were held outside the congressional district offices of various Republican lawmakers around the country. REUTERS
It’s co-pay this, co-pay that. I can’t pay that. I’m struggling as it is right now.” Barmer

UK parliament attacker named as British-born Khalid Masood Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement issued by its Amaq news agency, but did not name Masood and gave no details. The attacker who killed three people near parliament in London before being shot dead was named on Thursday as a 52-year-old British-born man, Khalid Masood, who was once investigated by MI5 intelligence officers over concerns about violent extremism. The death toll from Wednesday’s attack on the heart of Britain’s democracy grew to five as police said one of the injured, a 75-year-man, had died in hospital after
his life support was withdrawn. That number included Masood, 52, who was shot dead by police. Police said Masood was born in the county of Kent in southeast England and was most recently living in the West Midlands region of central England. “Masood was not the subject of any current investigations and there was no prior intelligence about his intent to mount a terrorist attack,” the Metropolitan Police said in a statement. “However, he was known to police and has a range of previous convictions for assaults, including GBH (grievous bodily harm), possession of offensive weapons and public order offences.” Prime Minister Theresa May told parliament the attacker had once been investigated by the

MI5 intelligence agency over concerns about violent extremism, but had been a peripheral figure. Police said Masood had never been convicted of a terrorist offense. His first conviction was in 1983 for criminal damage and his last one in December 2003 for possession of a knife. During five minutes of mayhem in the heart
of London on Wednesday, Masood sped across Westminster Bridge in a car, plowing into pedestrians. He then ran through the gates of the nearby parliamentary precinct and fatally stabbed an unarmed policeman before being shot dead. Police arrested eight people at six locations in London and Birmingham in the investigation into
the attack, which May said was inspired by a warped Islamist ideology. All were suspected of preparing terrorist acts, police later confirmed. The Enterprise rental car company said the vehicle used had been rented from its Spring Hill branch in Birmingham, which is in the West Midlands. About 40 people were injured, of whom 29 remained in hospital on Thursday evening, seven in critical condition. May visited some of the wounded, her spokesman said. The bloodshed took place on the first anniversary of attacks that killed 32 people in Brussels, and resembled Islamic Stateinspired attacks in France and Germany where vehicles were driven into crowds. The dead were

He was married with a fiveyear-old daughter. A minute’s silence was held in parliament and outside police headquarters on Thursday morning. A police Twitter account said it had been held at 0933 GMT because 933 was the shoulder number on Palmer’s uniform, but that tweet was later deleted and police released a different number. As dusk fell, hundreds gathered in London’s Trafalgar Square in a vigil to remember the victims. With traffic diverted away, volunteers handed out candles in an eerie silence. REUTERS

TRUMPING TRUTH
Here are three things I believe unequivocally: 1) My wife and dog like me even when I am a bonehead. Well, at least the dog. 2) Fried foods are an underappreciated cornerstone of civilization and must never be scorned. And 3) The truth matters. I mention that last one because this week Time posted a big interview with President Trump in which that did not seem to be the case. Let me be more direct. It was like a discussion of reality in a sauna with Salvador Dali. Through a meandering series of stream-of-consciousness answers, the president painted truth as utterly subject to interpretation … or rather, his interpretation. On his widely reported (and unproven) claims about wiretapping by the Obama administration, millions of fraudulent votes in the last election, and Ted Cruz’s father sipping coffee with President Kennedy’s assassin, Mr. Trump repeatedly refused
TOM FOREMAN Opinion
to acknowledge any mistake, misstatement, half-truth or lie. Instead, and oddly for a man who shouts “fake news” like “olé” at a bullfight, he defended and repeated several of his false claims by saying he read them in the paper. Or saw them online. Or heard them somewhere; as if a president would have no resources to, oh say, check those claims for accuracy. It’s circular
logic, of course, sort of like: I believe any jobs reports showing progress by my predecessor were fabricated because they didn’t suit my needs. Now they do, so they must be real. By the end I was recalling a great Steely Dan lyric: “Don’t believe I’m taken in by stories I have heard, I just read the Daily News and swear by every word.” But the words in this interview are hard to swear by because they are so filled with misdirection, falsehoods, and hints of falsehoods. President Trump most assuredly says things that are true. He can make valid points. He often cuts through the D.C. noise and nonsense better than most, and heaven knows this town could use more of that. But his seeming belief that he can freely spout rubbish; that “truth” is whatever he deems it to be is dangerous for the country — and for him. Because the truth trumps popes, potentates and yes — even presidents.

source familiar with the process said Thursday the State Department was working to get the approval done before Monday, the end of the 60-day timeline under Trump’s January executive order for the construction of Keystone and the Dakota Access pipelines. The State Department’s undersecretary for political affairs, Tom Shannon, is expected approve the cross-border permit for TransCanada Corp.’s pipeline since Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, the former CEO of ExxonMobil, recused himself from the matter. The multibillion-dollar Keystone pipeline would bring more than 800,000 barrels per day of heavy crude from Canada’s oil sands to U.S. refineries and ports along the Gulf of Mexico via an existing pipeline network in Nebraska. The State Department will approve Friday the permit needed to proceed with construction of the Canada-to-United States Keystone XL oil pipeline, according to two government sources familiar with the process. The move would mark the beginning of process that could be lengthy and complicated by approvals needed by state regulators and legal challenges. The project was blocked by former President Barack Obama. But days after taking office in January, President Donald Trump, a Republican who supports Keystone, ordered its construction. That could mean that project, proposed in 2008, will eventually be completed. White House spokesman Sean Spicer said the administration would provide an update on Keystone on Friday but did not offer any details. Spokesman Terry Cunha said the company was working closely with the State Department. Conservatives said they supported quick approval. Nick Loris, an energy and environment researcher at the Heritage Foundation, said approval would “reestablish some certainty and sanity to a permitting process that was hijacked by political pandering. REUTERS

Police detective, three others victims identified in Wisconsin shooting Authorities on Thursday identified four victims, including a veteran police officer, who were killed during a shooting spree in central Wisconsin sparked by a domestic violence incident. Detective Jason Weiland, 40, of the Everest Metropolitan Police Department was killed Wednesday afternoon during a standoff with a 45-year-old male suspect who had already killed three civilians, the Wisconsin Department of Justice and local law enforcement said. The other victims were identified as Dianne Look, 67, Karen Barclay, 62, and Sara Quirt Sann, 43. Police on Wednesday received a report of an active shooter in the town of Rothschild at around 1:30 p.m., the Department of Justice said. The suspect visited the Marathon Savings Bank, killing Look and Barclay, who were both employees of the bank. He then went to a law office in nearby Schofield, Wisconsin where he killed Quirt Sann. Police later converged on the apartment building in Weston, where Weiland was fatally shot while establishing a police perimeter, Marathon County Sheriff Scott Parks told members of the media at a news conference on Thursday. 16 WKND “Saban’s Power Rangers”
Rebecca Ferguson is one of the overqualified actors in the lean, mean, angry alien movie “Life.” ALEX BAILEY
“Life” It features Ryan Reynolds and two of the writers of “Deadpool,” but don’t worry: “Life” is a straight-up, no-joke monster-in-space movie, not a self-impressed send-up. It’s a high-end “Alien” knockoff, so polished and attractively cast that you might sometimes forget it has almost the same plot: A team of astronauts get pecked-off, one-by-one, by an extraterrestrial beastie. It’s not a Gigerian freakazoid this time but a shape-shifter; at various points it looks like a turtle and eventually a squid floating after its prey for some inventive, R-rated kills. It’s here that we offer what may sound like a strange theory: Originality isn’t always important. Sometimes it’s just as worthwhile to be familiar, even derivative. “Life” arrives months ahead of “Alien: Covenant,” which has the
unenviable task of bridging one prequel (“Prometheus”) with a classic (“Alien”), while clearing space for four more sequels. Classy budget and first-rate effects aside, “Life” is content to be a modest trifle. There are only six actors (including Reynolds as well as Jake Gyllenhaal and Rebecca Ferguson) and a simple mission: When the intelligent life they’ve found wants them dead, they must survive. It’s sad that the bar for movies is so low now that “may not have a sequel” feels like something special. You really watch “Life” just to see if it ever screws up. It does get sloppy toward the end, but on the whole it’s cool and confidently made, most of it comprised of one problem-solving activity after another. In two years you’ll confuse “Life” with such fellow “Alien” rip-offs as “Galaxy of Terror” and “Creature,” but while it’s in front, of you it’s lean and mean. MP
One minute you’re gobbling up awards for playing LBJ on Broadway; the next you’re bringing unneeded gravitas to words like “Zordon” and “Zeo Crystal.” It’s not clear why Bryan Cranston is in the awkwardly named “Saban’s Power Rangers,” a blockbusterification of a two-decades-old kiddie trash show. The acting god only appears in the flesh for about 30 seconds, then spends the rest of it as a big hologram thing on a cave wall, looking like he’s pressing his face onto one of those pin art impression boards you get at Spencer’s. Yet even with all the Cranston, “Power Rangers” is not quite a gritty reboot, but also not quite sure what it is instead. It’s a mash-up of approaches that don’t
go together. Our diverse quintet of high schoolers find an imprisoned magical being (Cranston) and his goofy talking robot (voice of Bill Hader). They instruct them that they can turn (or “morph”) into a gaggle of loudly colored, spandexwearing, high-kicking, dino-botriding defenders of Earth. Still, it’s hard to take even semiseriously a pricey romp where the villain is named Rita Repulsa. Played by Elizabeth Banks, she’s some kind of alien witch who wants to destroy the planet for some reason. She’s a hoot, but she’s in a different movie than the Rangers. Each one is a YA brooder, while Cranston seems to think he’s doing Shakespeare. By the time Repulsa is leveling a dead-end small town, you won’t know what kind of film you’re watching, or why it contains no less than Walter White. MP
Bryan Cranston plays a face on a wall for the bulk of “Saban’s Power Rangers.”LIONSGATE
Michael Pena and Dax Shepard star in a movie based on a show most kids these days don’t know ever existed. WARNER BROS. PICTURE
“CHiPs” Can you recommend a movie that, more or less objectively, isn’t very good? That is spotty on laughs and sloppy when it comes to tone, story and especially when it tries to be an “action-comedy”? It would be easy to write off “CHiPs,” a dirty, gross-out, thoroughly unnecessary reboot of a once-iconic ’70s cop show no millennial knows ever existed. All you have to do is point to any number of failed gags and set pieces. But “CHiPs” isn’t a programmatic studio comedy giving us what it thinks audiences want. It gives us what its maker and co-star, Dax Shepard, wants to give us. It has almost nothing to do with the original program, beyond two strapping California Highway Patrolmen, suave
Ponch (Michael Pena) and fearless/kinda dumb Jon Baker (Shepard), steering around on police cruisers. The plot is dumb — so dumb it could have been on an episode of “CHiPs”: There’s some crooked cops (led by Vincent D’Onofrio) ripping off armored trucks. Sometimes “CHiPs,” weirdly, plays things a little too straight, but in a way that winds up being endearing. As a comedy director, Shepard isn’t always looking for a gag, and when he is he doesn’t always give us what we expect. Even when it goes for the easy yuk, “CHiPs” doesn’t hit it at the usual angle. Here’s a movie with stupid gay panic jokes that include lengthy debates about homophobia. By the end it’s more likeable than funny — about as likeable as Shepard himself, who’s helmed a corporate cash-cow that feels like it was made by a human. MP

Kristen Bell explains ‘boob job’ in ‘CHiPs’ It’s not what you think. KATE MOONEY @yatinbrooklyn
kate.mooney@metro.us
On the set of the buddy cop com “CHiPs,” Kristen Bell and (real life) husband Dax Shepard had a minor disagreement — and it’s kind of a funny story. In the film, starring and directed by Shepard, Bell has a supporting role as his vapid, estranged exwife. “I wanted [my character] to be very stereotypical L.A., and I wanted her to have an aggressive boob job,” explains the 36-year-old actress. To achieve that look, Bell, who was breastfeeding at the time, didn’t pump for 24 hours. “I told the kids, ‘the food truck is closed,’” jokes the mom of two. In one revealing scene, Shepard wanted her to zip up her bathing suit a little bit, telling her she was “pulling focus” away from the dialogue with her cleavage. But Bell stood her ground, intent

gles with anxiety and depression — and fighting the stigma around mental health issues. “No good comes from anything when it’s left in the dark. Seeking treatment is something that should be celebrated, not shamed,” she explains. In addition to therapy, the L.A. resident has daily strategies to keep herself in balance, from meditating when she needs a break — “My anxiety is always boosted by multitasking,” she says, (Kristen, same) — to working out. “Those endorphins are key to everything,” says Bell. She loves to take long walks with her dog or go on a nearby hike, and is just getting into yoga, which she says she finds “very calming.” For Bell, an eco-conscious lifestyle goes hand in hand with healthy choices. Ahead of Earth Day,
Bell partnered with Tide purclean, a new 65 percent plant-based detergent, to introduce their new clean energy campaign. The brand encourages folks to take the #CleanPledge — vowing to adopt energy-saving methods and sharing the hashtag on social media — with $5 donated from every pledge to the World Wildlife Fund. “As a mom I obviously need clean clothes, but I also care a lot about the environment I’m leaving my children,” explains Bell, who has two daughters under 3. “The challenge is to get more households to be environmentally conscious when they’re doing their laundry.” Bell is a firm believer that acts of service alleviate anxiety. “You can receive self-esteem by doing esteemable acts — so helping anyone around you, or helping conserve the environment, will make you feel better,” she says. “It’s basic math.”

What’s new at Citi Field The food and drink options for Mets games keep growing.
As far as chef Josh Capon is concerned, “If the lineup on the field is half as good as the culinary lineup in the kitchen, we’re going all the way!” Bash Burger will serve his NYC Wine & Food Festival-winning burger, made with a Pat LaFreida patty topped with onion bacon jam, American cheese, secret sauce and pickles.

It may not feel much like spring, but the opening day for the Mets’ 2017 season is less than two weeks away on Monday, April 3. After back-to-back appearances in the postseason, the team will be ready to go for a third — and so will Citi Field. Here’s a preview of the new food and drink options coming to the Mets’ home:
DO Edible cookie dough sensation DŌ will have a stand serving three flavors (chocolate chip, sugar and cake batter, $6-$13). No guarantee that the line will be any shorter than the regular two-hour affair at its Greenwich Village location though. Promenade Club

The 7 Line Army has a new watering hole just behind the scoreboard: The Jim Bean Bourbon Bar will serve cocktails with a great view of the action.
Bud Light Landing In left field on the Excelsior level, Bud Light Landing will be an indoor-outdoor fan lounge with a Budweiser bar and photo ops like an oversized beer can.
New dishes Some existing restaurants have new items, too. Two Boots pizzeria created a white pie inspired by the Mets’ home borough, the Queen of Queens, topped with
Creole chicken, broccoli, cherry tomatoes and fresh garlic. Catch of the Day has added two great seafood options: Loaded Bayside Fries topped with zesty fried clams and clam chowder fondue, and South Bay Lobster Tacos with citrus slaw and tomatillo-avocado salsa. David Chang’s Fuku has a new, off-the-menu dish: a Mets hard hat overflowing with two chicken sandwiches, chicken fingers, potato wedges and sauces ($42).

Sweet 16 featuring marquee programs UCLA meets Kentucky and action at MSG gets underway. RICH SLATE @Richslate
sports@metro.us
Friday, at least on paper, features the sexier matchups in the Sweet 16 — highlighted by the dream meeting of No. 2 Kentucky (31-5) vs. No. 3 UCLA (31-4) in Memphis (9:39 p.m., CBS). The Sweet 16 seems like it is way too early to have these national title contenders squaring off, but you can’t complain. Regardless of who loses, you can guarantee that many future NBA players will compete in their final collegiate game in that one. Freshman shooting guard Malik Monk was the SEC Player of the Year so he’s due to break out for the Wildcats after quiet performances vs. Northern Kentucky (12 points) and Wichita State
(14 points). Bruins senior shooting guard Bryce Alford plays for his father Steve and he’s one of the best shooters in the country. Alford had 16 points in UCLA’s 79-67 win over Cincinnati in the second round. Another Friday game features everyone’s favorite underdog No. 4 Butler (25-8) vs. No. 1 North Carolina (29-7) in Memphis (7:09 p.m., CBS) in the South region. College hoops will also take over Madison Square Garden this weekend as No. 3 Baylor (27-7) opposes No. 7 South Carolina (24-10) at 7:39 p.m. (TBS) followed by No. 4 Florida (26-8) vs. No. 8 Wisconsin (27-9) in the East region. The Bears are known for their early round exits but they staved off USC, 82-78, in the second round. The Gamecocks had never reached a Sweet 16 in program history before now and how they did it no doubt gained them many additional fans. They eliminated
Duke, 88-81, in a second round thriller in Greenville, South Carolina. Baylor junior power forward Johnathan Motley has put up double-doubles in both tournament games this season: 19 points and 10 rebounds vs. USC and 15 points and 10 rebounds vs. New Mexico State (both in under 30 minutes of action). Perhaps nobody has been better in the first two games than South Carolina point guard Sindarius Thornwell, who posted 29 points and 11 rebounds in a first round win over Marquette. That was followed by 24 points, six rebounds and five assists in the game of his life against Duke. It feels weird to say since they’ve both become such brand name schools, but not many expected No. 4 Florida (26-8) or No. 8 Wisconsin (27-9) to still be here. The Gators were thought to be overrated from a down SEC, yet they remain alive along with two other teams from
their conference (Kentucky and South Carolina). Meanwhile, you should never underestimate the Badgers in March as they dispatched No. 1 overall seed Villanova last weekend, 65-62, in the second round. The over/under for that contest is 131.5 points so don’t expect too many easy buckets or pretty basketball. Senior power forward Nigel Hayes was a big part of Wisconsin’s team that made it to the national championship two years ago and he doesn’t want his college career to end as he had 16 points and 10 rebounds in the first round win vs. Virginia Tech then 19 points (including the most important basket of the game) and eight rebounds in their fantastic win vs. Villanova. Gators junior small forward Devin Robinson has been immense with 24 points and seven rebounds vs. East Tennessee State then 14 points and 11 rebounds in their blowout of Virginia, 65-39.
Georgetown dumps Thompson III The college basketball coaching carousel is well underway as Georgetown fired John Thompson III on Thursday. Thompson had been head coach of the Hoyas for the past 13 years and went 278-151 with eight NCAA tournament appearances. Thompson is the son of legendary Georgetown head coach John Thompson Jr.

Can’t wait to see you grace that at ballroom floor, break ak a leg! #DWTS.” Of course, Kerrigan was famously attacked by the ex-husband of Tonya Harding in 1994, getting her knees whacked with a police baton. Yamaguchi’s message was retweeted over 4,000 times and she hasn’t yet taken it down. A rephrasing would be nice.

Aries Your ability to help others and bring about change will put you in a good position when you need help. Don’t let anyone limit your time with unnecessary demands.
Libra Bring about positive change that will make a loved one happy. Your ability to express yourself openly and find innovative solutions to problems will make you a hero.
Taurus Don’t feel pressured to spend money extravagantly just to keep up with your peers. Emotional matters will escalate if you aren’t clear about your feelings and desires.
Scorpio Stay calm even if everyone around you is unpredictable. Your patience will be what saves the day. Trust in your intuition and your ability to see all sides of a situation.
Gemini Use your intelligence to get your way. Adding pressure to a stressful situation will backfire, but offering realistic solutions will turn you into a hero.
Sagittarius You will improve the status quo if you discuss your intentions openly and proceed with your plans. Trust your instincts and follow through with your decisions.
Cancer You’ll have some interesting ideas, but before you move forward, put a plan in place that will help you avoid failure. Caution and hard work will be necessary.
Capricorn Don’t reconnect with someone who was a bad influence in the past. Problems will arise if you overspend, indulge or take a backward step.
Leo Talks will lead to positive change and greater opportunity. Team up with someone who is like-minded and heading down a similar path.
Aquarius Negotiate and sign contracts with ease. If someone doesn’t like what you have to offer, don’t worry; an alternate offer will come your way. Time is on your side.
Virgo Concentrate on getting things done. Less talk and more action will help you bypass criticism and complaints. Don’t give in to someone trying to pressure or bully you.
Pisces Participate in events that encourage new connections. Working alongside individuals who have similar concerns will help you reach your goal faster. EUGENIA LAST
